I had high expectations for this place since there aren't many restaurants like this around the area. Unfortunately I was disappointed, the flavors of some dishes were very similar. The service is good but we were only 2 tablets at dinner in the whole restaurant and it took a long time to get our food. The place is very hot and humid, it looks like they don't have air conditioning and there is no proper ventilation. The main dishes come with rice, unfortunately they never mention they add cumin to it which I'm not a fan of it, the food is already very seasoned so adding cumin to the rice is too much for me. Almost all dishes were very sweet, so it doesn't seem to have authentic Himalayan food. We ordered: - Nawaratan Korma.- very sweet. - Malai Kofta.- very sweet, so so. - Butter Chicken.- it doesn't taste as a a butter chicken, and similar flavor as the previous one . Too sweet. - Chicken Tandoori.- very bland, not recommended.

Update: same review of stars however needed to add this tidbit. I ordered online for pick up and nowhere on the menu or website does it say entrees come with rice only. No naan. This is very heartbreaking but wanted others to know in case you assume it does come with it and it doesn't.

Went around 12:30 p.m. on May 1, 2026 for lunch with my mom. Not very busy at that moment so we were happy to be seated right away. Ambiance very nice. Restaurant very clean. We ordered the Samosas for appetizer and you get 2 huge ones. Only ate half of one because I wanted to save room for lunch. The tamarind sauce that came with was delicious. Could absolutely drink a gallon of it. I ordered the lunch special. I decided on Chicken Chilli and Chicken Tikka Masala. Yummy Lentil Soup first, then entree with rice and naan. Oh man I could have had another basket of the naan. Warm, buttery, crispy, delicious. I order a 4 spice level and it was perfect. Mom ordered chicken Biryani (not on lunch). Huge portion! Enough for at least 2 days of leftovers or to feed 2 people. She ordered 2 spice level and it was perfect. Gentleman serving us was attentive and nice. I'd heard about this place being extremely good and no lies told. Run don't walk to Himalayan Chulo. If it's your first time trying Indian food, you'll absolutely get hooked. It's that good.

Food: 5 Service: 5 Ambiance: 4 We were craving Indian/Himalayan food and stumbled across Himalayan Chulo on Yelp -- and I'm so glad we did. As soon as we walked in, the gentleman at the front greeted us with a warm, friendly smile. There were a good number of people dining in, but it didn't feel crowded, and there was a steady flow of takeout orders, which is always a good sign. We ordered naan bread, pakora, saag paneer, and a chicken dish (I don't remember the exact name), and everything was fresh, flavorful, and extremely delicious. Every dish tasted homemade and authentic, and you could really tell the ingredients were high quality. Dessert was light and not overly sweet -- just the perfect ending to a very tasty meal. We definitely plan on returning and highly recommend this place. The food is outstanding, the service is warm, and it's easily one of the best Himalayan/Indian spots in the area

On a rainy Saturday, decided to treat myself by having Indian food. Lunch specials are Monday-Friday. Immediately greeted by the kind gentleman and given water. Ordered lamb tikka masala and chicken momos. Also can't pass up garlic naan. Place is very clean. Nice decor, cloth napkins. Lamb curry is delicious and very tender. Rice is very fragrant. Chicken momos had a delicate wrapper and generous flavor filled meat. The garlic naan was the thinnest, largest, flakiest I've ever had. Needless to say I have enough leftovers for dinner. They even provided a little cup for the momo sauce. Will definitely be back.

Vegetable samosas were seasoned well, crispy and piping hot! The tamarind dipping sauce gave it a nice touch of sweetness. Garlic cilantro naan was buttery and cooked well - not an overcooked cracker like some other places. Chicken vindaloo was rich and had the perfect amount of spice. Saag aloo was the star of this meal for me. It was so creamy and packed with tons of flavor. Prices are very reasonable. I'll definitely be back and can't wait to try new dishes.

Not 5 stars. Not bad tho. Chicken Biryani was good, Butter Chicken mediocre. Chicken Tikka very good as was Golub Jaman. Sadly Onion Naan was almost inedible - way too may onions.

We went here for lunch and both got their lunch special, which includes naan, lentil soup, and choice of two curries for $11.95. We also ordered the samosas for $5.95. The food was great! All four of the curries we got were amazing and super fresh and flavorful. The naan was delicious and the rice was tender and fluffy. Service was so kind and friendly. The restaurant is in a strip mall, but has plenty of comfortable seating and is very tidy and clean. Can't wait to go back!

this is our mains, rice & naan: all hot, fresh & delicious!

Today is my first time here and I am so pleased! We were here at lunch time so we took advantage of their lunch special which comes with choice of 2 mains (out of 11 choices), rice, soup, and bread. Soup was piping hot and so comforting-tasty, love the warm spices! I got aloo and chicken vindaloo--huge portions for all! Lotsa yummy naan as well. We will be returning to eat more of this wonderful food.

FIRANGI Authentic Indian Gastropub -- What a Place!…read more Wow. I honestly walked in expecting a good Indian restaurant... but what I found was something completely different. This place isn't just a restaurant -- it's a full-blown lounge with style. First thing you notice is the vibe. Beautiful Tiffany-colored interior, elegant lighting, and a stunning marble bar that looks like it belongs in some high-end lounge in London or Dubai. Very classy, very comfortable, very cool. But wait... it gets better. POOL TABLES! And not just decoration -- actual playable tables. $1 a game! I nearly fell off my chair. I haven't played in ages. When I was younger I used to be pretty serious about pool, so naturally I had to grab a cue and see if I still had the magic. Let's just say... the spirit is still there, even if the aim needs a little polishing. They even run pool tournaments on Saturdays, which is amazing. So now suddenly dinner can turn into a little friendly competition. I'm already planning my comeback tour. Now about the food -- absolutely authentic and delicious. Real Indian flavors, beautifully presented, rich spices, and clearly prepared with care. Everything we tried was excellent and I'm already planning my next visit because I have to try the lamb. I've heard it's fantastic. A special thank-you to Sky, the lady boss of this place. She is super friendly, incredibly polite, and very professional. You can immediately tell she knows the cuisine inside and out. She explained dishes, made recommendations, and made us feel genuinely welcome. Hospitality like that makes a huge difference. So what do we have here? * Beautiful lounge atmosphere * Marble bar and stylish interior * Authentic Indian cuisine * Pool tables for $1 (yes, really) * Saturday tournaments * Fantastic hospitality Honestly, this place is a hidden gem. A perfect spot for dinner, drinks, and maybe a little pool if you're feeling competitive. Let's just say this: I will definitely be coming back... probably way too often. If you see a guy practicing pool shots while waiting for his lamb curry -- that's probably me. Highly recommended. woww

The restaurant is fairly spacious with indoor and outdoor dining, a long bar, and a couple of pool tables in a connected room/area. I found the decor/atmosphere slightly stark and more 'café' than 'gastropub'. Maybe that changes on busy evenings. The food was great, although we noticed they didn't ask about a 'spice level' -- it was a mild one-size-fits-all spice. A nice touch was a metal water vessel that was provided on the table with metal cups. The owner was friendly. The waitress was slightly odd. Wait time for food was a tiny bit slow. There's a single unisex restroom off the back patio, accessed by code. Ample parking on the surrounding streets and in free public lots. Watch out for 2-hour limit signs. From flavorful Hyderabadi-style biryanis to a variety of authentic dishes, every bite was a delight. This is my 4th time at Bahar since their opening day! The ambience at Bahar is vibrant and welcoming, making it the perfect setting for celebrations. But what made this Chand Raat truly special was Bahar's incredible generosity. They sponsored a beautiful community event by providing free Mehndi vendors, face painting, free Iftar, chai, desserts, and so much more. It was their wonderful way of showing gratitude to the community, and it brought so many families and friends together from all over San Diego. The free last Iftar of the month and the dinner boxes were more than plentiful -- packed with ample protein like chicken biryani, chicken chili fry, samosas, dates, and other goodies. The kids and adults alike stayed late enjoying the festivities, food, and joyful atmosphere. It was amazing to experience Bahar's generosity through both food and culture with family and friends. Thank you, Abdul and the entire team, for your hard work and big hearts! You truly brought the community together in such a beautiful way to celebrate Eid. The selection was pretty limited and did not match what's listed on the website menu. Service was quiet but fine. Waters were refilled and they checked on naan. Plain naan is included, garlic naan is an extra $2, and there's a 3% credit card fee, so plan accordingly. The food leaned spicy, but not in the enjoyable flavorful way. The samosas were mostly a big potato surprise in a crispy shell. I wanted a little more to the filling - I mayyyybe got one pea in there? The rice being served over plastic film caught me off guard. The bathroom could also use some attention. Atmosphere felt plain and a bit cold. There was no background music playing to fill in the void. Bright side, the tandoori chicken was actually moist and tasty. It tried very hard to save the review.

So, coming here for my wife's birthday for her favorite fare of rare steak seemed like a slam dunk. And yet, I'm left wondering if I either came on a bad day or this place has really fallen off in quality in the last few years. Let me start by saying that our server was fantastic. Sadly, I can't remember his name, but his attentiveness, demeanor, and knowledge base were truly the highlight of our time here. The restaurant itself is okay, a bit of a 60's to 70's vibe that just straddles that fine line between kitsch and tacky. It's small, cozy, with a good amount of lighting and comfortable seating. We were quickly seated and ordered without much issue. Our dinner started with the Crispy Brussels Sprouts w/Smoked Bacon. They were well cooked, nice and tender, while still having a decent chew to the char on the outside. The flavors are very sweet, with the honey and balsamic vinegar coming very forward, without the parmesan cheese adding some much needed saltiness. It was pretty good, though I believe it would have been better with added feta for more sour and salty notes instead. I had the Seared Scallops, a special for the day. The scallops themselves were small, probably each about a $0.50 coin in size, as opposed to something a bit bigger than a silver dollar you'd normally see served; but, there were a good four on the plate instead of a typical three to make up for it. They were a bit over cooked, making them dry and cracked in most places instead of having a smooth crusted sear. Still, they were seasoned well, with a nice white wine sauce that gave them a good overall flavor and a small spoonful of crab roe on each for some added texture. The real star on my plate, however, was the vegetable puree that had notes of chickpea and red pepper ... quite delicious. My lovely wife had the 12oz Prime Rib, an apparent Monday night staple at Bellamy's. She was initially worried that it would be too much, as she generally can only eat a small amount before getting full. But, when her plate hit the table, those worries evaporated as what she received was much closer to an 8oz portion. It looked nice and rare, a good amount of pink; however, there was no crust on the edges. No real seasoning on the outside, no salt or pepper, no Italian herb mix, nothing to give any real flavor other than that basic beef. We brought this up with our server who noted that a few other patrons had complained that the prime rib was too salty and the chef's solution was just to eliminate seasoning altogether. Chef's, don't do this, keep making Prime Rib properly. People, learn how Prime Rib is prepared and how to eat it. The bite I took of it was terrible, making me think of how boiled beef might taste in England. The Horseradish on the side was alright in taste, but had very little of the bite that you would normally expect to it. The carrots were undercooked, with no caramelizing to them. And the potato was pretty basic. All in all, a terrible birthday dinner. For dessert, we were given a slice of White Chocolate Cheesecake. It wasn't fantastic, but it wasn't bad. It could have been served better by being closer to room temperature. I will say that whoever is in charge of selecting or ordering their fruit needs a raise, because the blueberries and strawberries on the plate were utterly fantastic. In the end, a very subpar dinner from a place that I was very much expecting more from. It's especially difficult since there's not that many places in and around the area where you can get a really good steak. Apparently, Bellamy's can't be trusted with that either. And to be fair, it's not a bad place to have dinner. The food was okay in most ways, pretty good in others. It's just not anywhere near what a good restaurant should be considering the cost. Looking at the older reviews, it's apparent Bellamy's is not what it once was. Hopefully, it can find its way back there in the future.
