I stayed here May 2, 2018 and it was absolutely the worst hotel stay I have ever experienced anywhere in the world. First, there was no robe in the room. One of the reasons I chose this hotel was because they have pictures on their website of luxurious robes hanging on the door of each bathroom. I called the front desk and they said would have one sent up. I wanted to take a shower after having just arrived from the West Coast on a red eye, so I waited and waited... I finally gave up. As I was getting out of the shower, a housekeeper knocked on the door with the robe, an hour after I called the front desk. This was only a harbinger of how the staff really doesn't care about the experience of their guests.
When I left the hotel earlier in the afternoon to go to the beach and other places, I asked the front desk for a beach towel - the lady who was there at the time (around 2pm) promptly and politely gave me. I didn't get her name, but she was a young African American lady, and the reason I mention this is because I want to make sure the management knows that she is not the front desk attendant who was beyond rude later that evening. After I returned to the hotel, around 8pm, I decided to go to the pool and spa. Having never been to this hotel previously, I didn't know how to get to the pool area. I went to the front desk and asked for a towel. There was a different lady there at that time, who was Caucasian, again mentioning this as I didn't get her name and I don't want her confused with the polite lady who was there earlier. She asked me in an accusatory tone, "there aren't any out there??". I had never stayed there before, so I had no idea that they keep towels by the pool. I was shocked to be addressed in this way, having this woman behave like I was supposed to know. I stated that I didn't know they were out there. I then asked with trepidation how to get to the pool area, afraid that she would bite my head off for not knowing that, too. She gave me directions in a tone of voice which showed her annoyance at having to tell a guest something that, apparently in her mind, should be obvious to everyone. It's not obvious visually and there are no signs anywhere.
The next morning, as I prepared to leave my room, I heard loud laughing and shouting outside in the hall. When I opened my door to go to the elevator, I was confronted with six or so Latin women standing blocking the hallway with their housekeeping carts, shouting in Spanish and laughing uncontrollably. I don't mean giggling, they were screaming and doubling over with laughter. I don't begrudge someone enjoying their day at work, but this was completely inappropriate and I was appalled to come out of my room to see this - even more shocking was that they made no effort whatsoever to alter their behavior in front of a guest. I literally had to walk a gauntlet through them as they screeched with laughter at their jokes, and I had the distinct feeling they were at the expense of the guests. The reason I thought this was because I heard the word "puto" at least once, which eveyone knows means "a-hole" in Spanish. Even if it wasn't about the guests, I shouldn't have to make my way uncomfortably through several Latin women screaming with laughter, using foul language, when presumably, they're being paid to perform housekeeping duties. Really, really ghetto.
I took the elevator to the lobby and walked to the front desk to see that it was the same woman who was so rude to me the night before, when I asked for a towel for the pool. She was on the phone with what was obviously an unhappy guest, and she clearly felt put upon at being forced to deal with an unhappy guest. Her demeanor just exuded hatred for her job, her life and every guest. She asked if she could call the guest on hold and she turned to me, whereupon I said I was checking out. She didn't smile or greet me in any way except to ask what my room number was. She then asked if I wanted a receipt. I was very surprised that she didn't do what every single other hotel does, which is to ask if I wanted the charges on the card I gave upon arrival or if I wanted to put them on a different card, which sometimes I do for whatever reason. She just went ahead and charged the card without permission, basically. I had to ask her if she used the card I gave her and to remind me which one it was. She handed me the receipt and turned away to pick up the phone to ask the person if she could call him back. I couldn't believe she DIDN'T EVEN SAY THANK YOU. Not once did she crack a smile, thank me for staying with them, ask me how my stay was, NOTHING. I walked out really upset, as I truly felt that I had just been given a big f-you. To the management, you should hire people who at least pretend they care about the guests' experience and smile once in a while. I won't be back, especially when there are plenty of hotels where the staff is gracious and capable of providing warm and welcoming hospitality. read more
