Cozy hotel on a gorgeous strip of Naples beach. The rooms feel much more homey than a typical hotel (ie., the showers have beautiful brown stone, the furniture is typical beach house style) and everything is always very clean. We have stayed on both the condo and hotel sides, and both were great! The kitchenettes in the rooms are an added bonus. They are fully stocked with plates, bowls, silverware, along with a microwave, fridge, and stove top. There is a restaurant downstairs (The Turtle Club) where we were able to have dessert late at night. The crime brûlée was excellent! They didn't have room for us to have dinner either night of our stay - take note and make reservations ahead of time if staying at the hotel, because the restaurant is very popular with the larger Naples community. A few things that knock off stars - 1) They allow for guests to fish on the hotel's beach. Two days that we were enjoying the beach and intending to swim, there were children and their parent/guardians fishing from the sand and in the water. Obviously this takes away a large stretch of area for swimming because no one wants to be in the area where a child is casting their line/hook. Kinda ridiculous that this is allowed. 2) They claim to be a pet-free facility (service dogs are obviously excluded from this rule!), but from what I saw this wasn't true. A Yorkie staying in the room next to us walked up to me (no collar, leash, or owner present) while I was sitting outside my room, and would've walked into my room if I hadn't blocked it. The beach attendant was also talking about how he saw it wandering around valet and the outdoor restaurant patio unattended. Frustrating that this rule isn't actually enforced for all guests. read more

I love this place. The only original hotel left on this strip of beach. Very cozy, with great staff. I haven't tried the restaurant yet, but I hear great things. Just stayed here for the first time. We usually stay on the south end of Naples but decided to try the north area. This place is wonderful! Very clean, spacious condo (we had a 2 bed 2 bath) great area of town. Very quiet and convenient to restaurants and shopping. Extremely short walk across the street to the beach, chair and towel service, can't beat that! Just wish it was pet friendly but is what it is. We will definitely come back and have recommended to family and friends already. We had 4 in our group but there was a pull out sofa and a folding cot. Could easily accommodate 6-7 people. Great views of the bay and could see the gulf from the front lanai. read more

Unfortunately this is a dying breed on Florida beaches, it's not a condo or timeshare, but a family owned and operated resort. The interiors are a bit dated but are immaculately clean, well maintained and comfortable. This place is for couples and families (10+ or teens would be bored silly) but is a quiet and subdued place. No loud music or running screaming kids. Comfortable beds, flat screen TV's, full size in room fridge and great A/C, directly on the beach. Beach chairs, towels, and umbrellas are provided for no additional charge. Depending on the package you choose for a reasonable nightly rate you can include a continental breakfast and a number of meals at the Turtle Club which is located in the resort. Food on the beach patio or in the dining room is really excellent. See my separate review. Parking is free and there is a pool on site, along with drink service provided on the beach. All of the staff is helpful and friendly. For a relaxing few days of peace and quiet Vanderbilt Beach Resort is a great choice. We were excited to book Vanderbilt Beach Resort for part of our annual December visit to Florida. (We always stay one week at Hyatt Residence Club in Bonita Springs and then add on several more days in Fort Myers, Sanibel, etc.) The thought of a family-run "old Florida" resort on the beach had great appeal. The on-line reviews, photos, and descriptions looked good. So we booked a queen suite in the motel section of the resort. The layout and suite amenities looked similar to what we had at Song of the Sea on Sanibel a few years ago. However, the VBR kitchenette and furnishings look more updated than Song of the Sea. On the downside the outdoor seating with the suite does not appear to be screened. I was initially pleased with our booking -- and then had second thoughts due to a couple of issues. We specifically wanted the sleeping area separate from the living area. Looking more closely at the photos and provided floor plan, I could see there was not an outside window in the bedroom -- just a louvered window that opens to the living area. Furthermore, there appears to be very little room in the bedroom. A bed and one nightstand -- and barely room to walk to the far side of the bed. We had had a similar room at Song of the Sea. But thought we could manage for five nights. While the website mentions Wi-Fi, I was very surprised -- and dismayed -- to see that the booking agreement stated that the Wi-Fi was not guaranteed. Oh no! We had just had a very frustrating stay at a family-operated motel on the Monterey Penisula where the Wi-Fi was spotty to non-existent for most of our four-night stay. We did not want to ruin our vacation with a similar experience. Fortunately, we were able too find a couple of other good options in Naples. We settled on a resort on Naples Bay. We will have a one-bedroom condo, full kitchen, and many other amenities. Only the beach is missing, although a shuttle to the beach is available. And with a "fourth night free" offer, the rate is actually less than VBR. Vanderbilt Beach Resort graciously cancelled our reservation and promptly credited our deposit back to our credit card. Good customer service! We may consider VBR in the future if we can get the one large deluxe suite or a condo -- and if the Wi-Fi issue has been resolved. read more

This place has been a favorite for many years. Its a family owned and operated resort. The interiors are a bit dated but are immaculately clean, well maintained and comfortable. This place is for couples mainly who want to get away and be in a more intimate resort. Used to be much more quieter but this time we chose to stay July 4th and there were a lot of small children running around the pool area. We stayed in the upstairs oceanfront room and the room is very small but everything is kept clean and orderly. Rooms need to be remodeled and would benefit to be more open area. Everything is pretty dated. Beach chairs, towels, and umbrellas are provided for no additional charge and the beach guys are always very nice and accommodating. Hours for beach chairs should be more flexible in the summer since they gather chairs at 530pm and the sun stays out much longer than that (maybe 7 would be better). The Turtle Club which is located in the resort is amazing . This is one main reason we have always stayed there as my husband is fanatic with their Oysters Rockerfeller. Food on the beach patio or in the dining room is really excellent. Parking is free. All of the staff is helpful and friendly. For a relaxing few days of peace and quiet Vanderbilt Beach Resort is a great choice. read more

We truly enjoyed our staycation here. The room was clean and had a great view of the pool and Gulf of Mexico. We stayed in room 44. It had a kitchen and full size refrigerator. Beach chairs and towels included in the stay. I accidentally left my iPhone charger in the room and was happy to know that it was still in the lost and found. We will definitely be back again. My only suggestion it to have the Turtle club open the menu choices for Vegetarian and Vegan option. We didn't eat at the resort due to that. Other then that it was amazing! read more

Summary: best vacation for my wife and I... Ever! We live on the east coast of Florida and were looking for a little romantic getaway for a few days. My wife found an add in our local paper so we decided to book the reservation sight unseen... Yes, we booked it without checking yelp! Very risky, I know, but I'm glad we went!! First: I went online to book but saw they didn't have two nights available, so I called and spoke with the best customer service rep I ever encountered. He looked at his plan, waved his magic wand I assumed, and found a way to make our reservation happen. When driving there, we drove past the huge chains and tall buildings, happy to see the VBR tucked away like a hidden gem. Check in was fast, friendly, and easy. Parking is free and there's always a spot (valet is also available if you like). The room was beautiful!! Clean, updated, and cold (so important in Florida). The granite countertops, stone shower, and the stocked kitchen! (Not food of course, but everything you need to whip up a meal or some snacks. Did I mention the tv? I should. Every hotel I have ever stayed has a big tv With a ton of channels... That are all fuzzy!! What's with that? Not here! A full selection of direct tv channels that are all in glorious hd . Beautiful. Whew... Now onto the beach: Just steps away from your room is a powdery beach with little traffic. Plenty of room to stretch out, plenty of chairs to relax, and entry of umbrellas to keep you from burning. And they even have drink service (just raise your flag) I can't wait to go back! We stayed in the huge 2 bedroom condo across the street with a nice screen in porch overlooking a peaceful bay. We were 5 women. I slept on a pretty comfy rollaway bed that was placed in the large living room/ dining area, we had room to park our car, there was an elevator and it was a short walk across the street to the clean heated pool and the beach where they served you drinks and put out chairs, umbrellas and towels. The gave you s little flag on a pole that you raised for service. Also right there was the famous and delicious Turle a Club Restaurant. See it's reviews. Our ditsy was the last week of January 2015. This was one of the more reasonable places to stay. We were very sad to only stay 3 nights, next winter will be more. read more

The location is very nice and the food is amazing only disappointing part was when we needed umbrellas and chairs. We rented basically 2 whole floors and when we asked for the umbrella that belong to each room they gave us excuses and only got 2 umbrellas for 30 people. I felt like the staff in charged were lazy on going and getting the stuff for us and their names are Anton and Gage. Very unfriendly guys with a really bad attitudes even rolling their eyes. We visited with 4 friends ( couples) and rented one of the deluxe condos at VBR. One of our friends has been visiting every year with her family for years, so she knew exactly where she wanted to stay. The grounds are very nicely maintained, the condo itself was perfect. we were in room condo 101, so just one floor up which was great when hauling beach gear. the condo was HUGE, much larger than we imagined. full kitchen, with a 4 seater table in it, dining room table for 6 right off the kitchen. the living room had a 4 seater couch (pull out) two club chairs and a recliner. there was a 2 inch tv on a console in that room as well. the master had a king bed two nightstands and a HUGE walk in closet with a folding bed (literally, you could close that closet door and you have a little bedroom, thats how big it was). The second bedroom had two twins, two nightstands and a dresser. The master bathroom was a bit small, but served its purpose. the second bath was pretty spacious as well, and there were closets everywhere! there was also a full size washer and dryer so we grabbed some detergent pods at walgreens and did laundry before leaving, nothing like getting home with a suitcase full of clean clothes! loved that! it's valet only, but the deluxe condo got two parking spots self serve which was great bc there was covered parking on the first floor of the condo. the pool was small IMO for the amount of ppl this place caters to when its full. several times there were just too many people and it started feeling like people soup. not fun. so we went to the beach most days. unfortunately for us, we visited at the height of the Red Tide fiasco, so the beach was a little gross. A LOT of dead fish both floating in the ocean as well as washed up on the shore...making for a horrible stench. I thought that knowing the resort was almost sold out, they would have someone raking them up from the shore at least to alleviate some of the smell. at one point just in our view we counted over 100 dead fish, it was nasty. but, we were there to relax and enjoy so we just walked over them and tried to shoo them away as much as possible when in the water. we didnt try the restaurant as one of our friends has a severe allergy to shellfish (cant be around it) so we didnt want to risk it, but it was always full and the food looked delicious. The sunsets here cant be beat, just gorgeous. The one thing I will say I wish they'd done was to control the groups at the pool a bit more. the entire weekend there was a family of about 15 people that just took over the whole pool. They brought their own coolers and food and worse, their own speakers, so their spanish music was the only thing you could hear at the pool, and sometimes at the beach too. Just too loud, they were yelling across the pool and across the other patrons when their liquor coolers emptied. I'm happy they were having a good time, but it made the experience for everyone else that WASNT part of their group really aggravating and a nuisance. I never saw a VBR employee come by, it would have been nice to have someone ask them to turn their music down, not everyone wants to hear that some of us want to just lounge and relax and that was impossible to do this weekend. The other HUGE perk was there was a little cabana right outside the condo building with a full size washer dryer and a bathroom with shower. So, we were able to check out at 11am, and still enjoy the beach/pool before heading home around 6pm. We packed up and were all able to shower so we were 'so fresh and so clean' for the drive home. This was a HUGE PERK for me, because I hate having to leave vacation sooner than normal and this allowed us to stay longer and still shower before leaving. I'll come back to VBR on my own with my BF next summer (hopefully the red tide will be gone)! read more

This was our third and last trip to the VBR. My mom grew up in Naples and has fond memories of going to Vanderbilt beach. In February, I spent 20 minutes on the phone with the front desk to find when room 38 would be available in June. We had very flexible dates, but wanted to stay in room 38. We settled on the dates that 38 was available, then about an hour later I called back and pushed it all back one day. We were very excited about our trip! When we arrived last week, we were told we were in room 44 instead of 38 and that they don't guarantee certain rooms. If this was the case, whey did the front desk spend so much time with me on the phone in February? Room 44 is a lot smaller and has a different layout than 38. I travel about 75% for work and I am used to a certain level of friendliness and responsiveness when it comes to customer service. Any time my mother or myself would go into the office to get coffee, the front desk manager or other staff would barely look up from their computer and would often not acknowledge us at all. The bed in 44 was extremely uncomfortable and like another reviewer mentioned, it seemed like a freight train was going by. The first night the room and bed were literally vibrating. I realized later we must have been right above either the laundry room or kitchen. The room was also very hot and the AC wasn't working appropriately. The first two nights I barely slept at all. When we went to tell the office, they told me that they would send maintenance up. We left for a few hours and came back that afternoon and the room was still hot. The front desk then told us that the AC is motion detected and wont work unless someone is in the room, but that the issue from earlier was "fixed". This would have been beneficial to have on the list of resort information. Nevertheless, after being in the room for over an hour, it still wasn't cooling down. They sent maintenance up again and he said that it was a fuse issue and "fixed" it again, but called the outside AC company. They came by and told us that our unit's AC was up for replacement. We went back down to the front desk again and the girl at the desk had a very lackadaisical attitude and told us again that the AC was "fixed". We told her what the AC repairman said and she said she didn't know anything about it. At this point, we had gone ahead and purchased a small fan for the room so I could at least try to get some sleep. Later that evening, my mom went back down to the office to tell her it still wasn't working and they offered to move us to a room across the street for two nights, but then we would need to come back to this room. We passed, since we didn't want to move twice. I ended up sleeping on the couch for the rest of the stay with our own fan to help circulate the air. The AC repairman did replace the thermostat the next day and that did help some. The saving grace for this hotel is the location right on the beach. However, the cabana workers also need customer service training. Sean, who has been there for several years, is the only one who is friendly and acts like he actually wants to be there. Three mornings my mom had to get her own table and bring it down. We would be down there right at 8 when they opened, but they would already have large groups of chairs reserved for two different sets of families. This resort really, really needs lessons in customer service. Even the manager isn't very friendly. Next year, we will be staying at another property that is updated and that really understands hospitality. read more

Basically a 2 story motel tucked between high rises and luxury properties. For the price, you can't beat it. You'll pay less than half dor the same beach as it's neighbors. True, the rooms are small with double beds instead of kings and Queens. Yes, the office (no lobby) closes at 10pm. And yes, like at other beach hotels you need to get up early if you want a chair on the beach with an umbrella. But you are on the same stretch of beach as top notch properties at price that lets you splurge on meals, so I think its worth while. read more

This is the place to be if you want a reasonably priced efficiency or condo on or near the beach. The place is truly relaxing and they let you do what you want. The efficiencies are nice for 2 people and the 1400 sq ft condos across the street can easily fit a flock of 6. The room decor reminds me of early 90s cheesy beach furniture but you get past it after you see the beach. They provide towels, beach chairs and umbrellas. This is a gorgeous hotel with excellent beach access and a killer pool. Our room was perfect for our family and our toddler. When we booked the reservation we were also excited for dinner at the adjoining Turtle Club. HOWEVER, after a long day of playing in the sand and at the pool we weren't exactly in a place to get the fam dressed in "resort casual" and to sit in a fancy restaurant. We thought we'd get a few salads a a ceviche for our room but we're told that wasn't allowed. I get that they don't do room service, but I was irritated and disappointed that I couldn't pick up dinner. We ended up with pizza delivery and while the pizza was just fine it was not at all what we were planning on having for dinner. Seeing as how the adjoining restaurant was a major factor in our decision to book this hotel this will definitely influence my decision in the future about staying here again and I think the restaurant should think about changing that policy.
