A great place for breakfast, lunch, or brunch, this really friendly gem is a great place full of fresh food and friendly staff! The bread is fantastic! I went with my grandmother and her friend, who had the rice bowl (modified with an egg on top! Extra protein for seniors helps slow the muscle loss associated with aging), and it was completely eaten by the 92 year old! ! My grandmother had the Llapingachos, which were excellent. My spouse had the huevos rancheros, and there was nothing left of our lunch! Completely devoured! I had the chicken biscuit, that I had swapped to their sourdough bread, which is an authentically made sourdough bread, and it was so good! Drove here from Nashua curious about it since I saw a friend post about this place. Was in the way to the second surprise I planned for my husband so worked out great. Plan on a wait. It's a small farm the table place and seemed like each table was served one at a time. Not sure if there was a regular kitchen stove and oven and one table was made at a time. One waitress taking orders and serving food. Food was phenomenal. I had the croissant French toast with blueberry compote and whip cream. The whip cream tasted like it was fresh off the cow fresh. Unbelievable. Best French toast. My husband had the eggs with toast and hash browns and side bacon. His words exact "best piece of toast I've ever had." Just a piece of toast left a mark on him. You could tell everything was fresh made to order and it shows. Farm is right on the field. We waited about 40 minutes to get our food but so well worth the wait. Next trip is lunch. read more

First, we knew nothing about this restaurant before we went there. Never even heard of it. We were looking for a place to eat at 10am on a Saturday morning and driving through Wilton and saw a sign for it. Secondly, I think some of the reviews are a little over the top regarding the restaurant using terms like "heaven" and "to die for". Really? I am not impressed at all with healthy eating. So all of the "fresh, organic, CSA" stuff means absolutely nothing to me. And I'm kind of a "I know what I like and I like what I know" kind of guy. So I'm not one for trying a lot of new things. And thirdly, it's a farm, folks. I think people eat here and then think they have "roots" because they did. But I think that people who "eat healthy" like to feel "earthy" and this place provides them that. But they pay a premium for that feeling. As a result, there are a lot of people eating here that can afford to buy that earthy feeling. And finally, having said all of that, I certainly see nothing wrong with eating healthy and wanting to feel earthy. I'm from the Midwest so the whole farm thing just isn't much of a novelty to me. But I get why people like it. So here is my review of the restaurant: The place isn't easy to find. No big signs marking it and it's out of the way. So, keep your eyes peeled. I think that the "hidden away gem" aspect of it is purposeful and adds to the appeal for some people - not for me. You seat yourself. Even if an empty table hasn't been cleaned yet. No one is there to guide you or tell you there are more tables elsewhere. The first timer is a little lost. Again, I think that is by design - to give people who have been there before the feeling that they have insider knowledge. The restaurant is in a really old farmhouse on a working farm. Nothing fancy at all. The kind of ambiance the Common Man spends a lot of money to fake. It's comfortable but small inside (we only saw one dining area just inside the entrance and I'm not sure if there is more dining space indoors). There are tables outside in the yard beside the house that look to be comfortable as well. But they were next to the dusty dirt/gravel parking area. Our waitress was adorable and must have been all of 16. She was all smiles and attentive and made us feel very welcome. How important is a good waitress or waiter??? It makes all the difference in the world. We didn't know what to expect from the menu. But I thought "It's a farm - breakfast is bacon, eggs, biscuits, gravy". Not so fast. The food isn't typical farmer's fare. It's "new age healthy" food. There was bacon and eggs and gravy, but not like the diner in town. So, my first thought when I first saw the menu and realized we were in a "healthy" zone was "Oh crap, this is gonna suck". But there was bacon and I didn't see truffle mac and cheese so I thought it might just work out. The menu was small but looked like it could have something for everyone. My usual drink of choice is unsweetened iced tea but my wife convinced me to try the hibiscus iced tea. It sucks. Never again. I ordered a sandwich with avocado and bacon. My wife was surprised and proud of me for ordering a sandwich with avocado on it. She ordered a dish with mashed potatoes and an egg and some sauce that looked like gravy. We shared them with each other. The food was really good!!! My sandwich was panini like - the toasted bread was great. I guess a selling point is that the food is grown locally. Not the avocados, I imagine. In my opinion, the price we paid was too much for the meal we got. Like I said before: "fresh and organic" aren't worth much to me. But the food was good and it wasn't outrageously overpriced. After we ate, we walked around a little - watched the pigs play in the mud and the cattle feed. Even though I'm not impressed with the restaurant, I am impressed that it doesn't suck. But there was nothing about it that made me say "I can't wait to come back here". And I guess we found a place to take our "froo-froo" friends. They'll be impressed. And there is value in that. read more

I love this place for it's atmosphere and local/organic fare. However, I no longer go there for sandwiches since my last two sandwiches (both vegetarian) were lacking in vegetables and the rest of the filling (hardly any aoli each time too) yet so greasy that I really couldn't even think of eating my side of kettle chips - which are inherently greasy. I wish they had better sides ... something less greasy. Their drinks are good, though, so they have a saving grace aside the setting. read more

Local, yummy food! I love the fresh soups, the amazing teas and fresh dairy products. I love that they think about the environment with compostable coffee cups. My daughter loves the always available games, crayons, and other fun kid things. This is one of our favorite places to go to for a family weekend brunch. read more

A perfect morning! The sun was shining and we had a fabulous breakfast here at the Hilltop Cafe! What a great menu. Several of us had Cuevos Rancheros, one of us got a great omlette and I was introduced to Llappingachos, Peruvian potato pancakes with fried eggs, white cheese and peanut sauce sitting atop a bed of greens. Simply fantastic. And I haven't even mentioned the toast - truly wonderful. And the service was great as well. This is a lovely little spot tucked away in the NH hills with chickens running around the front yard. Their croissants are absolutely the best I have ever had, and they have fantastic coffee drinks (all espresso based). The breakfast menu is excellent! The server, was friendly, yet sadly very forgetful. Brought our breakfast and asked if we wanted ketchup or hot sauce. I asked for hot sauce. Never showed. We decided to order a biscuit to try as well after we were served. It was forgotten. Had to ask again. I asked for a refill on my coffee. That never showed as well. Asked a second time. She said they had to brew some more. Ten minutes later I asked the third time. She disappeared. She finally came back with our bill, but no coffee. I gave up and just paid. The food is so nicely prepared, presented and flavorful that I want to come back again. This is close to a five-star place, but I left feeling quite ignored. read more

Went for drive and had lunch and spent $36 for 2 children and myself. We had 2 veggie sandwiches and 1 crepe, 3 drinks (they didn't offer water). We left hungry. The sandwiches were very small and thin - $7.50 each - with a few chips on the side. The crepe was also fairly small, $6.50. Paid a tip in advance but bussed the table ourselves. Food tasted good, but they could've thrown a few extra bean sprouts and avocado on for the price. Wouldn't recommend it, won't be back. read more

Love the concept - rustic, crunchy, local-sourcing on a real working farm with farm store and now with two outside seating areas. The offerings (written on a blackboard, no actual menus) are limited, yet varied, alternative eclectic, and intriguing. Omeletes with goat cheese and herbs, or local sausage, 'israeli eggs', breakfast egg & cilantro soup, huevos rancheros, sweet or savory crepes, breakfast and lunch sandwiches on local artisan bread, awesome croissants, etc. Be forewarned, this place is different than Parkers, Gary's Harvest, etc. in that they don't regularly offer all the usual mainstream staples, like pancakes, sides of bacon & homefries, etc. If you've got people who've got a mainstream breakfast comfort zone, (children, oldsters, the non-adventurous) this may fall outside of that. read more

Farm fresh is what this restaurant does and it is amazing! My boyfriend and I ventured in on a frigidly cold day; nice and warm in there. Seat yourself (I don't know how much seating there is as it is a refurbished farmhouse). Sadly, the menu is fairly limited, but the choices on there are unlike any other basic breakfast cafe. Definitely representative of the farm's products, miry everything came directly from the farm and is handmade. I had the goat cheese and caramelized omelet with a spinach and cheese croissant. The croissant was absolutely amazing! Light and buttery, it was filled with a lightly cooked spinach, feta and goat cheese. Sweet, buttery, a light tang from the feta and a sweetness from the goat cheese; sharing was hard. Omelet was big, fluffy and filled with that gorgeous goat cheese, I just wish there was more onions (they were sweet and delicious) My boyfriend got their daily special; a chorizo bowl with eggs, kale, potatoes, onions and sour cream. The chorizo was epic! Flavorful, meaty, rich and a nice little spice. Eggs were perfectly cooked with a nice runny yolk to tie the whole dish together. Kale was fresh and even though lightly cooked, tasted better than anything I've gotten from a supermarket. The sour cream tasted a little different than what we normally find, but that's because it was homemade and nommy. Our server was a pretty young woman; friendly, attentive, I wish I could have tipped her more than I did. (Sorry, Hun, I'll make sure I have extra cash to tip you with next time we come back) This definitely isn't priced like an Ihop where you can feed a family for less than $40, but the quality of food you get far exceeds the price you pay. EVER ! Its always a special evening, in a rustic atmosphere with no pretenses. The chef , Michael and his wife Sandy insure a most pleasant evening. Simply put, The Evenings At Hill Top, at the HillTop Cafe are one of New Hampshire's culinary secrets. You must make a reservation online and order your choice of dinner online prior to going to dinner. The dinners at HillTop Cafe are at the very top of our list for dining either Friday or Saturday night. It just doesn't get any better than this. We dine out a few times a week, and HillTop is #1. What a unique cafe with delicious sandwiches and rich and strong coffees! After a delicious lunch with coffees, we wandered outside to explore the farm. We found adorable group of piglets and their moms across the road that entertained us for several minutes before we moved on to enjoy the beautiful scenery around the cafe and farm. Love this place! I have brought whole groups of my cycling friends up to the Hilltop Cafe for a mid-ride lunch stop. Once they eat the delicious food, they get why it's worth taking the time to relax outside for a while, compared to the usual quick convenience store stop. Local, fresh organic ingredients served by friendly staff. I usually get the egg & bacon croissant sandwich and a smoothie, others have enjoyed the crepes, turkey sandwich, basically everything has always been fantastic. Worst customer service ever. Quoted us 30 min wait. When we inquired to see where we were on the list we were told that "we should leave if we were in a hurry". Finally, after waiting over an hour and completely ravenous, at this point, and on Mother's Day of all days, we were approached by the owner who requested we leave for treating her associate ( who had told us "we should leave if we were in a hurry") rudely when we were simply inquiring about our wait. We can't even review the food but no food is worth this disrespectful, horrendous treatment. We've put up with unfriendly staff for a while but this was on a different level. If you value being treated like a human being, this is not the place to go. read more

This hinterland hidden gem in a historic farmhouse on one of the oldest biodynamic CSA farms in the US is uncompromising in its quality, presentation and politics. In a region where espresso is nonexistent, this place not only does it but does it right. And their food, far from the slipshod imitations typical of rural cafe fair, is top-quality, elegantly presented and rigorously PC in its sourcing. And it's reasonably priced. For under 13 bucks (my grateful 20% tip included) I can get a lunch of cappuccino, half a bacon and avocado panini and a cup of cold fennel and red pepper soup: half the bowl red and half green, swirling together as one spoons up the perfectly-balanced purée, which exposes the fresh veg beautifully. The simplest things come carefully presented here. The under-$4 sugar crepe is arranged in a fan, with a whorl of not-too-sweet whipped cream, blueberries and orange. Add to this the selection of lemonades (ginger, mint, etc) and high-end tea list and elegant baked goods, and you've got a backwater sleeper hit that would blow most hip downtown cafes out of the water. This place is worth traveling for any day. Open Sundays till 2 in July. read more

What a gem of a place! We were elated to find this lovely indoor cafe while on a recent road trip. We hit it right and managed to have a small dining room all to ourselves, equipped with a small play kitchen which was perfect for keeping my daughter busy until the meals came. The staff was incredibly gracious and accommodated all of our requests, big and little. I had a fantastic crepe with eggs/cheese/greens/bacon which was farm fresh and delicious. Perfectly sized. Everyone in my party seemed very content with their meals. Afterwards they invited us to walk around the farm which was busy with summer CSA pickups. As a bonus we were able to buy fresh bread and cookies (which were delivered twice a week) via an 'honor jar'. It was a fabulous find for our road-weary crew. I'm so glad the greasy-spoon diners were closed as this place was far better, and much healthier to boot! ALSO worth mentioning the clean rest rooms, picnic tables outside, and neat 'pole swings' (found off the parking lot) for the kiddo's! read more
