I will mention up front that this review was agreed to by the three coworkers with whom I ate here. We stopped here on the drive back from a work trip to get a quick dinner. Honestly, I was super shocked to find a place that had 100+ reviews and 5 stars; I was intrigued. When we pulled into the semi-secluded parking lot a bit off the downtown area, all I saw was the fluorescent lights coming out of a building. I won't lie, it was a bit disheartening. My colleagues also expressed their initial doubts. However, we got inside and the man behind the counter was jovial and welcoming taking good care to make sure we would get what we wanted. I ordered the Tzatziki with Pita and the soup of the day (which I now forget what it was; think chicken and rice). The tzatziki was so amazing and my colleagues agrees that it alone made the stop worthwhile. They enjoyed chicken and vegetable stir-fry which was reportedly tasty and hearty. Solid experience, we got the Mozzarella Sticks, Potato Skins, Chicken Souvlaki, Greek Mac and Cheese (w/ broccoli), and Pastrami, via take-out. The take-out was clean and easy, no issues here and their COVID protocols are on point. Note that they are willing to customize dishes, so take advantage if you want! The Mozzarella Sticks were solid, the Mozzarella was tasty. The Potato Skins come with cheese and bacon, they were good, but I think I would get them with veggies on them next time. The Souvlaki was slightly cheese heavy for my taste, but was otherwise quite tasty (not that I am not that into cheese, so if you like cheese this is a good bet). The Mac and Cheese was solid, though I wish it had more types of cheese in it (I know...I just said that I'm not that into cheese, but just for roundness of flavor, also I don't know cheeses well enough to know what cheese should be added), the broccoli was lovely though. The Pastrami was excellent, very flavorful, though maybe slightly on the dry side, though it should be noted that I did not get to eat it until about an hour after I picked it up, so it would have been more moist, and thusly probably not dry after all. read more

I was a little surprised when entering Hillsode Grill. I was expecting a ait down restaurant and what I walked into was more like a pizza joint. There was seating which was first come first serve and after ordering at the counter the food is brought over to you. They also clear the tables. The staff was friendly and super helpful. They work their butts off. The menu is small and it took me awhile to decide. I ended up ordering the chicken stir-fry sub with a Greek side salad. The food. Wow. The food is amazing. I was really surprised. My stir-fry had fresh and delicious vegetables including broccoli, peppers, onions and mushrooms with a touch of teriyaki. Cooked perfectly! The chicken in the stir-fry was top quality. Tender, trimmed perfectly and excellent. The Greek salad was soooo good! Everyone really enjoyed their food. I wish I lived closer to this place, I'd be a regular! Moral of the story- don't judge a book by its cover. I almost left because I wasn't really wanting pizza shop food, but I decided to stay and I'm so glad I did. read more

I hate to give this score. The people who work there are SO WONDERFUL. So friendly, kind and amazing. We went the other day for lunch in a pinch (it wasn't busy at all) because we were nearby. Got a Greek salad with chicken, a sandwich, and two kids meals. My salad was ok. My husband's sandwich was alright. My kids food was fine. Then we get the bill. $60. That's far too expensive for what we got. Like I said the people who work there were lovely. The food was mediocre but for that price point I could have gone to a sit down restaurant and had the same meals with an adult beverage or two. It's too bad I understand food costs are up so if they food was AMAZING I'd be happy to keep supporting a local small business but I can't afford a lunch like that for a quick bite. read more

Well, this should be labeled as a five star restaurant because the food is THAT good!! I had CHICKEN SOUVLAKI in a freshly made pita with a side salad! Mouthwatering deliciousness. My friends had the fried haddock with onion rings and Greek mac and cheese. Everything was dynamite!!! We couldn't stop raving the entire time we were eating! You order at the counter and sit wherever you want so it's not a fancy sit down restaurant but the food is out of this world! So glad we went apple picking and found this place!! read more

We read the reviews and decided to check out Hillside while visiting from out of town. When we walked in, it didn't look like much, but were greeted by a friendly cook. We ordered the steak sandwiches and they were delicious. I bumped into the owner on the way out and told him how good the steak sandwiches were. He told me that he paid extra for better beef, stating that customers could tell the difference and were willing to pay slightly more. Absolutely. On the way out, the cook who greeted us settled our bill and offered us homemade banana bread - that his mother baked. I said, sure and asked him how much I owed him. He said it was a free gift for customers. Who does this in this day and age? Hillside is exactly how it's been described: unpretentious, friendly and very tasty! read more

The food here is quite good: I got the gyro and my wife got a chicken wrap. French fries were golden and crispy. Food came out very quickly. Reminds me of the food back home in New York. My wife and I had to shoot up to Massachusetts to pick up some exercise equipment. Spotted Hillside as we were driving by. So happy we did. Food was fast and exceptional. Called in an order for pickup. Got the Angus burger with salad substitute for fries and a medium pizza and a chicken kabob salad. All items were of good size and nicely prepared. Food tasted great. I asked for my burger on sourdough bread and that was delicious. Staff was friendly upon calling in the order and picking up. I'm a foodie. I search out great food, and care about service and innovation. Rarely do I come across a "sandwich joint" this good. The offerings are unique, customizable, and appetizing to all tastes. Chicken Souvlaki was GLORIOUS, and Fish Sandwich was the best I've had, even better than Captain Marden. Jimmy and his family are friendly, generous (they brought us free dessert--yum!!), and made sure we had everything we needed for the perfect lunch. Worth every penny. I've eaten here 3 times now with my boyfriend and we both love this place. New, fresh and clean - a "quick-casual" dining environment (lunch & dinner) place. Super friendly owners, chef (John) and couple of young people (high school age) are fun, friendly and try really hard to make the customers happy. Both the baked & fried haddock is to die for (tried both & highly recommend). My boyfriend loved the cheeseburger on ciabatta bread & crispy fries (although I'd prefer a whole wheat roll or other whole wheat bread option - but it was still delish nonetheless) - especially for the price of around $6.95. We recently tried one of the more expensive menu items (around $9.45 - we took it to go) - the "mac & cheese". It's a very rich, tangy and delicious penne pasta dish with a generous amount of butter & cheesy goodness - definitely not diet food (see picture). I wish they would offer a side dish of this pasta (since I'd feel guilty ordering a full size order of this again)...but a small side dish would really hit the spot when a cheesy craving strikes! Maybe I'll ask them the next time we go - who knows? They probably would make me a side dish of this anyway since they seem pretty flexible like that.... My only suggestion is to have some kind of dessert offering available for purchase all the time....my "inner child" throws a tantrum when it doesn't get dessert after meals ;-) My boyfriend came home with some takeout from Hillside Grill recently and said they "gave him some home-made baklava - here try it"...this stuff was out of this world delicious. They should sell this stuff (and any other delicious Greek delicacies) that you can't find easily. And by the way, this baklava wasn't that leaden, dripping, stale tasting stuff available at most places around here (when you can find it). It was actually kinda light, crispy, nutty - with just the right amount of sweetness - without being cloyingly sweet...really amazing dessert. Went here months ago based on the 5 star rating. Everything was perfect. I discussed the 5 star rating with the owner (after eating to not influence the experience) and he said he was very aware, was very proud, and worked hard to keep it up. I told him I'd certainly give a 5 star review and feel bad it took so long. I read the low rated reviews to see what people were thinking. Sure it doesn't look like much, and maybe the food isn't 100% Greek, and yep it looks like they messed up an order once, but in my opinion when the food tastes amazing (I'm not Greek, so maybe less picky) I don't care much about the surroundings as long as the are clean. In addition, the hospitality of the folks behind the counter, especially the woman (I'm assuming the mother of the younger man), was "blow me away" good. Checking on us after we got our food, bringing out real plates and silverware when she realized we were eating there, then taking the plates away when we were done and talking to the kids on the way out. Traditional Greek hospitality I really could appreciate. I'm not in this area often but it's made it to a "bookmark" on my GPS for when I am. read more

We went out to Northborough solely based on all these 5 star reviews, a feat not seen very often on Yelp. You'd never think this was a restaurant when you pull in. The entrance is in the rear of a pretty boring looking building. When we walked in we were sort of bummed out. It's like a pizza joint. Absolutely nothing more than that. I'm not saying that's a bad thing but don't for a minute it resembles anything more than that. We were greeted immediately by a very friendly young man. We sat ourselves while we waited for the food to come out. They bring it to your table. Speaking of tables, as mentioned by others ours was sticky. It looked clean until you put your forearms down. We moved and that table was sticky too. There was also a piece of food under the table. Kinda gross but typical of a sub shop. The food came out promptly and the portions were very good. My wife loved her gyro. I had chicken parm with ziti. The chicken was nothing more than deep fried breaded fillets with a little sauce. I didn't really like it. The people that work here are very friendly and the prices and portions are very reasonable. We had an "ok" experience. Nothing more than that. I'm really not sure where all these five star reviews are coming from. Three stars would be more than fair but I'd hate to ding these nice people so I gave them four. I was several miles away ready for dinner when this 5 star restaurant popped up in my recommendations. My husband and I love greek food (it could be because I grew up with my grandmother making it) so we were excited to check it out. He got the fish sandwich which he liked, and I got the special soup. I was told it was like a chicken soup but with lemon and rice. Aha! They were hiding my favorite Avgolemono soup under false names and pretenses for the uninitiated! Understandably because how many people would order it with a name like that... I ordered that of course with a salad and was not disappointed. The soup was tasty and the salad had a mountain of feta on top and plenty of toppings. The best part of the visit was definitely those working there. I work in the area and this is my go to place when I need to escape the office for lunch. Clean with a friendly staff & great food. I usually get a roast beef sandwich or a Gyro for lunch. This place truly never disappoints. We walked in for lunch while doing errands on Father's Day and I was having a hard time deciding between the gyro, the tuna melt, and a buffalo chicken wrap. I ordered the buffalo chicken wrap because I don't believe I've had it previously. As we were waiting for our food, Jim the owner came by to wish us a Happy Father's Day. He said he had some very fresh haddock that he would back with a red sauce, broccoli and rice pilaf if we were interested. It was such a kind gesture I felt I had to say yes (that and I really enjoy haddock). What he put in front of me was amazing. Broccoli grilled in olive oil was perfection. The fish with a red sauce was the best I've ever had. The rice pilaf after being under the fish and sauce was also great. 5 star meal for a 1 star price. Friendly the whole time. Atmosphere (4/5): This restaurant is definitely not a fine dining experience. Going in, my expectation was just a small diner in town with great reviews. The staffs were very welcoming and it made me and my husband feel good. Service (5/5): There were two people in the restaurant. The guy who was cooking was always smiling and was honest. The lady who helped with serving food was also very kind. It feels like you are invited to a your friend's house. Also the wait for food was very quick. We were the first in line for dinner but food came out very fast and they weren't pre-cooked. Fresh made food! Food (4/5): We ordered ceaser salad with gyro meat, onion rings and chicken wings. It was our first time there and the portion was very generous. The gyro meat was very well made and the onion ring was well done. The onion ring was only $3.95 but it was more food than buffalo wild wing's basket of onion rings. Overall, the food was clean and fresh. Again, we weren't looking for fine dining but it met our expectations. They have open kitchen and you can see the cooking process if you want. Price (5/5): Less than $30 for two people including appetizer, two entrees, two drinks and complmentary homemade dessert cake. That is also including tips. Overall I will give 4.5/5 personally but making yelp review point 5/5 is totally fine by me. I would definitely return when I crave home cooked soul food. read more
