The signs of construction and a coming eatery have been there for awhile, so I shouldn't have been surprised to see this open but I was. More surprising was that it was pretty busy almost immediately on opening. So last night I decided to give it a shot.
The area is pretty well served by takeaways, and has lots of chippers, but with the notable exception of Borza, they tend lack a certain lustre. So its a pretty bold move to open a takeaway in an area saturated with takeaways and only a few feet from one of them.
So Hillbilly's is basically american style food - lots of fried chicken. They also seem to have pies, which I didn't order this time. There are a few high stools but this really is a takeaway. I went for chili chicken breast in a bun meal, which cost about 7 euro - so certainly comparable price with the other local takeaways. However when I got it home I was happily surprised to find that it was much better quality. Everything seemed fresher and even the bread was not your packet bun usual standard.
I can see why it got so busy so fast. I just hope they keep it up. read more
