Hill Top Bakery is the BEST bakery in NE WI, dare I say best in the entire STATE! My husband was born in Kaukauna, but I wasn't familiar with the city. Well, the first time he introduced me to Hill Top Bakery, I was smitten. The delicate, sweet, doughy aroma hits your senses like a million delicate butterflies tickling your senses, making you weak in the knees! For our wedding 10 years ago, we got the cupcakes from Hill Top and let me tell you, those were the BEST cupcakes we have ever eaten. Other cupcakes may look extravagant, but completely lack the flavor. Hill Top's not only LOOKED beautiful, they tasted even BETTER! I seriously have never had a better cupcake BEFORE or SINCE then. My husband can attest to that. Hill Top never disappoints. You can taste the immense LOVE they pack into every single delicacy they make! I just picked up two dozen doughnuts for my coworkers, and told them they were the BEST doughnuts they will ever eat. Well, needless to say, they all loved every bite! I have been to other bakeries, but there is always something "off" with one or more of the things they make. Whether it's the oil they use or the fake-tasting fillings or the flavors of frosting, there's always something that could be improved. Hill Top is different. I have never had one single thing from Hill Top that I didn't like. Everything I've ever eaten from there has been nothing short of delicious. They really know what they're doing. An independent family-run bakery that's been in the same family for the last 48 years, but goes back to the 1920s! When I was young there were bakeries sprinkled liberally across every small town in the Fox River Valley of Wisconsin. This is one that remains; it's the only business in this neighborhood of houses. Too often in the big cities a business has just one focus: the donut shop, the bundt cake place, cupcakes only, bread only. Hilltop has everything sweet you can imagine packed into their modest space. Muffins, cakes, pies, donuts, bars, cookies, bread, buns....what did I miss?....they have it. All fresh, & many things not kept around for more than a day without being placed on the mark down rack. Hilltop bakery has been one of the most exclusive bakeries i've experienced over the last 20 years. On my way to work, even when I wasn't feeling the best, I would stop at either of the bakery or somewhere the bakery delivered to just to have one of their delicious donuts. Throughout the years, as I moved around in my profession, I've only found one bakery as comparable. There was always something missing. It was at hilltop taste. My first encounter with these doughnuts was at a yard sale in Grand chute. The owners daughter had them for sale at her yard sale. I am a huge fan of doughnuts. I decided it was finally time to visit this place to get me some delicious doughnuts. Heads up, Appleton has crappy doughnuts. Second encounter with Hill Top, I drove down from Appleton to get me a great doughnut. The place was busy which means, a lot of people love these doughnuts. I got me a dozen of the most delicious, mouth watering doughnuts. Chocolate, Apple, cherry, blueberry, glaze, lemon filled, custard, and sugar. I don't like donuts but Hilltop donuts are deliiiiiish! The texture is soft and light with the perfect amount of sweetness that isn't overwhelming. The prices are very fair and staff is helpful. My husband and I also got a variety of their donut holes as dessert for our wedding and they were MUCH better than messing around with a cake. This gem is well hidden, but worth discovering.
