One of very few places in the country who does molecular mixology! With that they mix science and bartending to create an alcoholic master piece that you can eat or drink! For example the molecular shots.. Or oyster shots! My boyfriend and I came during out getaway in Tucson as he has heard about Highwire for sometime and their innovative drinks. On a Saturday night there was a line to get in but nothing unbearable. We went to the bar to order the pearl shots we saw online and after a short wait were greeted by a friendly bar tender. We each got one Mexican candy shot and one Poprocks shot. The tastes of the shots were within expectation and as described but didn't give us a buzz. The pearls and the liquid drizzle and toppings are served in a flat bottom spoon. We grabbed some napkins and requested our bar tender place the spoons on them. Some others had their spoons placed directly on the bar before they consumed the shots. I think the bar surface has to be wiped down frequently if the spoons that may go into someone's mouth are placed on it. Over all it was a cool experience even though at $8 per pearl it was a little steep. read more

The ambiance is very relaxing and inviting, I LOVE the courtyard and the fireplace out front, and the bar window is so fun! They've really made something of the limited space offered which is impressive. We had the contortionist shot which while I give a 5 for presentation, taste is a 2. I was glad it wasn't overly sweet but as I'm not a vodka drinker I would have liked something MORE as there wasn't much flavor at all but I did like the fizzles from the Pop Rocks.. Just fun! Terrible service! The manager tries to hit up on all the girls and when they are not interested he finds a reason to kick them out! They also offer "Vip bottle service" but that's really a joke. My friends and I frequent at this bar often and we always love it! Last night, however, we had the rudest bar tender. Didn't catch her name, but she was blonde, working at the inside bar. Not sure if she was drunk herself but we ordered 4 AMF's and 6 of the mexican candy shots. For some reason she only charged us for the AMF's and so we we're thinking okay no biggie, we can just order again. She comes back only giving us 2 AMF's out of the 4 we ordered, and we asked her to add on the shots and she immediately flipped her attitude for some reason, as we went to get out our card to pay she just completely turned around and began ignoring us. We thought at first, they're busy she probably just needs to fill other orders, this goes on for 20 minutes until finally we starting trying to get her attention and she makes it a point to ignore us until she finally came over and my friend at that point said "Hey, we ordered these drinks, we only got 2, can we please get them or at least get a refund." and she starts claiming we didn't order those drinks even though we had the receipt right there in our hand. She begins arguing with us, cursing at us, until finally she snatches our card away to finally ring up the shots and then finally makes the AMFs and basically throws everything at us. We love this bar, we love coming here, but this is completely unacceptable. I understand we all have bad days and customer service can be hell sometimes, but there's absolutely no reason to act like this. read more

My experience at HighWire was beyond exceptional. I gathered with a few friends for food and drinks and the service was incredible. Social distancing protocols went above and beyond the norm and the staff was gracious and warm. HighWire should be everyone's go-to establishment for a fun filled and relaxing time. Be sure to grab a seat at the bar for this one and watch the barkeep do his magic - truly a crafted cocktail from start to finish it's almost as much fun to watch him prepare it as it is to enjoy. They have a great selection and the prices are very reasonable - happy hour is a great deal and certainly worth stopping In for. Enjoy the outdoor seating area with multiple fire pits to sit around and access to the bar from the outside limiting the need to go in if it's crowded. On July 1st I went out with a friend and we ended up at high wire at about 1am. While ordering drinks at the bar I felt very faint even tho I only had one drink prior to getting there and as I looked for somewhere to sit down I started to pass out. As I passed out I hit my head very hard on the wall. After smacking my head and passing out on the floor, I was immediately grabbed and stood up by a security guard. I sat back down as I was unable to stand and then had to throw up. I ran to the bathroom to throw up and the security guard followed me in to tell me I needed to leave. Even when I explained that I've only had one drink and haven't consumed any drugs their only concern was removing me as quickly and swiftly as they could. I told them my head hurt really bad and they did not care. They made no effort to check me and make sure I was okay. They wouldn't even let my friend walk out with me they made her wait outside. They did not care that I was okay. I ended up going to the hospital the next day because I had a concussion. The doctor said I was lucky that after such a bad fall that nothing else followed after leaving the bar. They did not offer me water. They did not let me take a second to sit down. They very well could've caused more damage because of their actions. I've been trying to get a hold of someone but no one will answer the phone. The way they treated me after passing out is not okay. Your business is not more important than someone's health. read more

This is one of the most low-key, laid-back bars I've been too. They have pearl shots that are unique and they change the flavors every now and then. The bare tenders are great; very friendly. If you are down congress and looking for a great bar, this is the place! I am going to give it 4 stars, if 4.5 was available, I would award that. This place is definitely worth a trip! read more

Fun new bar that is still finalizing the details. The current drink menu is interesting. Lots of options from beer, mixed drinks, wine and a full bar otherwise. The prices were reasonable but some of the special drinks do come in a smaller tumbler size glass for $10 - $12. I had the Prickly Bubbles margarita which was sweet, tasty and unique with little bubbles full of tequila. We sat outside as the inside was full at only 10:00 PM. The patio was hot in the Tucson summer even without the sun but what can you expect in Arizona? There was no food available yet as the little grocery opening up next door will be partnering with them. That should open soon. Summary: I wish the cool inside area was larger. Fun bar with good music. This is definitely our go-to bar downtown. It has a great pump-up vibe but doesn't always have a lot of folks dancing (I think it depends on the night and crowd). The DJs are always fantastic though! Drinks are good. I like the Mexican candy but it's definitely a hit or miss texture/flavor wise. Love this place as I go often, but my only complaint is this...why do you guys feel the need to turn into zen rock (only playing Mexican music) on big holidays like 4th of July and Halloween? Fourth of July I heard more music from Mexico than I actually heard while on vacation in Mexico and it was funny because it was an American holiday, and usually they play everything.. Halloween was almost all Mexican music but right as I was about to get annoyed they did switch it up so that's good. Nothing wrong with Mexican music and I know we live in Tucson, but us white girl gringas wanna get down to u know everything not just that. I really like this place. From the change in scenery and home-y aspect of couches throughout and painting outside. That's right there are people painting outside the bar. The cosmic cocktails are pretty fancy and having a cotton candy champagne drink where you interact with your alcohol is pretty fancy! Right across the way from Independent Distillery in the same courtyard as Johnny Gibson's Market you will find Highwire Lounge. Karaoke on Monday nights is pretty fun and the girl who runs it loves to sing so don't fret if you're like me and get nervous, its a ton of fun. Highwire usually gets their drinks out pretty quick and make a really good dirty martini, one of my favorites (other than Maynards). The molecular shots fun to do with a friend, get the one with pop rocks on top! The music is always good, and on Saturday nights there is a big dance party that makes up for Independent's lack of music. Since the open air courtyard allows you to switch back and forth between the two bars, it is a lot of fun for groups. Smoking is allowed outside, and you can order drinks from the outdoor side of the bar. Bartenders are all really nice and if you do want to go inside there are some chairs/sofas to sit on. The bar itself isn't too large, but it has an upscale feel to it that sits apart from most of Tucson's bars/lounges. Highly recommend if you want to have a fun saturday night downtown and don't want to be at an indoor club the whole time. read more

After spending a year going across the way to independent distillery, I finally checked out highwire for the first time about a month ago and have been back a couple times since. Though the space can get a little cramped on busy nights, this is an excellent happy hour spot or place to hang on an off night. My girlfriend is really into the unique cocktails and flavored shots that are offered. We've enjoyed getting to know Hillary, and she makes awesome drinks. I like the Leland Palmer and the bourbon and tea. Stiff drinks made right. I also was turned onto the beer they offer by The Shop Beer Company based in tempe. Get the agave pale ale. Sweet nectar of the gods. They also have michelob ultra in case you want to surprise a friend or rival with one. Needless to say, this is a great downtown spot that I enjoy coming to. I don't recommend going to place! Bartenders play favoritism when serving and you wait in long lines! After waiting 45 minutes, I was given a bottle to pass around for shots and the security guard kicked me out and said I was banned! He didn't believe me when I said it! I didn't want to start anything so I had him walk me out. He then started to harass me while I was waiting for my party outside the bar. I understand people are drunk but the security have no right to make you feel like horrible or think they're higher authority. I spent a lot money there and don't deserve that horrible service! One of only 8 places IN THE COUNTRY doing spherical alcohol gastronomy. Yup, I'd say that makes them totally original in the Tucson mixology scene. They're also using things like pop rocks and cotton candy in their specialty drink, The Contortionist. Their signature drink, the HIghwire, is their inventive take on a Manhattan. They're even doing a drink with fire... which I can never remember the name of; but they put coffee beans in with cognac and light the thing on fire. If you use a lot of hairspray or cologne, you probably don't want to risk the pyrotechnics. They make spherical shots of different liquors and combine them with things like peach puree or cranberry juice. The shots burst in your mouth, making for an interesting, um, oral experience. They have a fairly limited food menu that comes from Johnny Gibson's Market next door. The courtyard they share with Johnny Gibsons and Independent Distillery looks like a great place to unwind and just hang out in nice weather. You really have to be looking for this place to get there as you literally have to go down an alley to find it. If that's a little too scary for you, you can enter through Johnny Gibson's and go all the way through to get there too. If you're downtown and looking for friendly service, inventive takes on cocktails, an upscale atmosphere and beautiful courtyard, Highwire is a no-brainer. read more

Since there is just enough for 2 barkeeps, you will be waiting. I paid $11 for a shot sized drink and $12 for my girl's drink called the Contortionist. It was cool looking but again it was a half sized Martini. Why do they call themselves a Gastropub? They did not have any food items when I went. Also the menu online hardly constitutes being called a gastropub. Pretzels, nacho, ceviche, cheeze balls, come on! I seriously hope that Downtown doesn't pop out more of these Shi-Shi overpriced bars. If you're looking for a hipster, mixologist, go to Good Oak Bar. Good local beer, good food and yes, they have expensive stuff if you feel like spending money. read more

Boyfriend and I tried to order drinks on a Sunday afternoon- The place had one bartender and about 10 patrons total. yet we had to wait over 35 minutes at the bar to put in our orders. They were out of each of our first selections, followed by being out of each of our 2nd selections. and finally out of the last ones too. How do you not have a way to make 6 of the different drinks we ordered. No gin, no vanilla vodka, no rum, no St. Germain, no cucumbers to muddle, no pearl boba-like spheres. Came here this past weekend for some drinks. The location is a bit hidden since it's not off any major street, it's in an alley between congress and Broadway. Really enjoyed the vibe and outdoor seating area. Hip little lounge in downtown that seems very attentive to their customers. I was disappointed with my drink choice as I misread it and didn't realize it had some type of spicy liquor mixed into it (le masquerade). I was super excited to try this place. I brought my sisters while they were in town and we were very curious about the gastronomic mixology. The bartender was very happy to explain their process and even gave one of us a shot to try the texture of the peach sphere. I was personally not the biggest fan of the texture of the spheres in my prickly pear margarita, but that's just me. Went tonight at 10 pm (Thursday) and ordered 4 drinks from the several menus they had sitting out. There were 2 female bartenders (blonde and brunette) who proceeded to tell me that the 2 smoked cocktails we ordered were not served after 7 pm and that we looked at the wrong menu. One claimed she "just picked up all the old menus" and missed the 3 we saw. She handed us a totally different menu without half the drinks we wanted on it. I asked for a manager and 1 girl said shes "acting manager". She commenced to tell me that "it is busy, she doesn't have time to smoke cocktails. If i have an attitude or a problem with it then i can leave". There were maybe 18 ppl there total, not nearly busy at all. We left and went across the way to The Independent distillery where we were treated with respect, kindness, and given the correct menu. read more
