Doing business on multiple occasions has consistently been a GREAT experience. I have acreage and an organic garden with vegetables and fruit trees on the Oregon coast. Julia is my "go to girl" who has all the answers and has always been there for me with my many questions! The staff and the delivery people have been very professional going out of their way to meet my needs. This company has always had the best price and the best quality soil products for my needs. Thank you Highway Fuel and Julia for the many years of service. You're all great to work with! Irene Claire read more

I've stopped in a couple of times to choose a bunch of pathway flagstones and such. They just let me wander around picking through the bins and they bring me a flat to put everything on so my friend can pick it up later. I had to ask about "fuel" and it turns out they also supplied (maybe still do?) Hog Fuel. I'm glad I looked it up. read more

3 years ago my wife and I did our own bark dust at our house. It took 3 days to get it spread out and looking the way we wanted. Today we had highway fuel come out and the guys were in and out in 45 minutes! They were very helpful and amazing to work with, there is no chance I will ever do my bark dust myself again. I would highly recommend Highway Fuel read more

I have had the pleasure of working with Highway Fuel (HF) on multiple occasions, and each experience has been consistently excellent. Last fall, Jeff from HF went above and beyond by driving over 20 minutes to my location to assist me in evaluating how much soil I needed for my project. He helped me determine that I would need about 10 yards of soil and walked me through the conveying process, which saved me a significant amount of time. Today, after laying the weed barrier I purchased from HF, I had a follow-up question. Jeff was incredibly patient and helpful over the phone and provided various helpful scenarios and made additional recommendations that I truly appreciated. Beyond the exceptional service with soil (and even simply, weed barrier), I have also purchased wood (kiln dried and excellent product) and beautiful Montana Rainbow River Rock in various sizes from HF. Whether having product delivered (wood, soil) or picking up myself from the Salem location (Rainbow Cobble and 3/4- in buckets), customer service from all employees has always been top-notch. Whether it's Jeff or other staff members, everyone is dedicated to ensuring that customers receive the best possible service. I highly recommend HF for their excellent products and exceptional service provided by their team. read more

Asked for 2 yards premium compost to be dumped in my pickup. I was directed to lot 2 and waited. Filled the truck bed and went to the lot house to pay. He looked at my load and charged me $68 for premium compost as stated on the receipt. Came home, spent all day shoveling and spreading in the front flower beds, alls good. The premium compost seemed sandy, light colored and lots of plastic pieces and clods. Went back today to get two more yards and wanted to tell someone what I got. I was directed to a different part of lot 2 and loaded from a different pile. Pulled out and stopped out of the way of others loading. I asked the guy who loaded me why two piles of the same stuff. I looked at what he had loaded and it looked like...well what I thought premium compost should look like. He told me the other pile was river loan mixed with compost.....potting soil. I went to the office and outside spoke with a person who wanted to see my receipt from yesterday. It was at home. We talked and she told me to go home and call in the ticket number and I would be credited for the wrong load. I figured that is the best they would do after a hard day's work. I called with the ticket number and talked with a person who transferred me to Mike's voicemail. I hung up and called back and was placed on hold and the person I had talked to outside the office picked up. She mentioned needing to confirm the transaction via their video system. I believe she then remembered our previous discussion and said would go ahead without video verification and credit my card for the $68 and charge for the potting soil. When I objected and told her they could come and remove the potting soil she relented and stated she would credit my card the $68 and not charge for the potting soil. I have done businesses with Highway Fuel since they were on Fairgrounds Rd. This encounter is not up to their standards, unless their standards have dropped considerably. I did get the $68 credit. read more

I love to go there to pick out rocks. They are very safety conscience. There are a lot of moving vehicles in the area, and they really keep an eye on everyone's safety. There's a lady that works the front entrance shed, and she is wonderful. They have all been very nice and helpful.. I usually go in and take buckets and buy rocks by the bucket. I also go through the pile of broken stone and I get a lot from that pile for only four cents a pound! Great place. read more

Do an amazing job. They were quick and professional. Had good pricing, product was excellent.

excellent for bark delivery. On time and accurate. Competitive pricing......................

Note - I did not order services or product from this business but wanted to share my negative interaction with this company. One of their trucks pulled out in front of me on Highway 22 just east of Stayton from the gravel quarry. Not only did I have to brake to avoid an accident the truck threw gravel on the highway and into my windshield cracking it. I called their dispatch office afterwards and was told that they would take care of it and to send pics of the damage which I did. I also had witnesses to this. The company completely blew me off stating that it was my fault and they have signs on their trucks to stay back. Kind of hard to do when they pull in front of you like they did. So no answers to emails with proof and pictures. No calls back. I'm out $400 because of the negligence of this company. I would not use them for any service based off how they treated me and the actions of their drivers and management. read more

My initial interaction with Highway Fuel was not the best. But Brandy went the extra mile to make it right and I really appreciate her. This company the owners managers clearly have integrity and when mistakes are made they make it right. It's greatly appreciated thank you so much. read more

They are competitive prices, whether delivered or self pickup. I have always found their products good quality.

We have purchased soil several times and had chips delivered and blown in. Great service and products. I took one star off because once we rented a trailer asked and was charged for their power plant mix, but we're given some other product that wasn't nearly as good and needed a lot of amending. We didn't notice until we had dumped the soil and returned the trailer. Now we look to make sure that we're given the right order. read more

Last time I got cedar chips delivered, was the smallest 4 yards I've ever seen. Also they're charging $70 for delivery!

We bought our northwest blend for our smoker. Split the cord with our daughter. Very happy with my purchase. It cost us $320

They had exactly what I needed (round rock, mulch), helpful staff, and great prices! I picked up because I didn't need much, but they also deliver! read more

Highway fuel seems to be the only place in Salem to buy dirt, but I am looking for another before I buy more bark dust. Had 35 yards of Fir bark dust blown over a 1/2 acre of tricky, and in some places, delicate planting beds. Jeff and his 4 man crew were very careful and professional at applying, grooming, and cleaning up afterwards. My wife is very picky and she was very happy with the results, as was I. Highly recommend these guys. The price ended up being about $42/yard that included delivery, blowing in, grooming and cleanup. Well done! read more

Really great company to work with. Honest, dependable, and super helpful. And the people are so nice, besides! Have nothing but praise for them. read more

I had a poor experience with Highway Fuel today and want to caution others. We have used the same amount of bark dust for years. Today, when they were blowing it on, it took an extra 7 yards compared to the exact same job as last year. That was an extreme jump from every other year prior. I am extremely disappointed. They provided no incentive to keep my business. read more

We are doing a complete overhaul of our yard. We have bought 1/4" minus gravel, Camas boulders and flagstone from them. We have also taken yard debris there several times. Each time we've been there they have been friendly and helpful. I just ran the calculations and am about to place an order for 5 yards of dark hemlock bark dust. My wife and I have had nothing but positive experiences there and would absolutely recommend them. We live in Keizer. read more

I have been a customer for many years now. I purchase pellets in the winter and get compost and soil mixes for my small business. I have always been pleased with the service. They load up my truck quickly and even let me know I had a low tire and offered to help me with it. I have been particularly happy with the planting mix - over the past three years I have had 50 yards delivered. You can really tell the plants are happy! read more

I ordered 3 yards of their gold 3/4" gravel to cover a back yard I was working on, paid good money but got a lot of clay in with the gravel. It wasn't obvious until it rained and the clay content compacted. also the clay content in the gravel I had already spread over the back yard began congealing and patches of clay began appearing over the surface of the gravel. I called their office to report this and the guy said there shouldn't be any dirt in it as they only sell clean gravel, I told him to come and see for himself. He said would call out in a day or two, he never bothered showing up, I wont be ordering from these any more, as I can't trust them to deliver value for money, which is no good for my business or theirs obviously as I would have been ordering a lot more from them had I been happy with their products and service. read more

I ordered some 3/4" river rock from these folks, and they thought I meant 3/4"-, which they delivered promptly. When I contacted them and explained that I wanted the 3/4" round rock instead, they stepped up to the plate and delivered 2 yards of the good stuff without charge. I was very impressed with their willingness to help me and not ask me for more money. It's a rare and great thing they did, and I will gladly buy from them again. read more

We have been using this business for landscape rock and bark dust. Never had a problem before today. After buying several hundreds of dollars of red hemlock, our last two yards had gravel mixed in it. I first spoke to a lady, and she spoke to the manager and relayed our complaint. They wanted us to bring back the load. When we said it was dumped, they said take pictures, and email them. Then if they thought the complaint was valid, refund us for half a yard, verses the two we purchased. When I said that would not work, I then spoke to the manager named Noel or Noah. Apparently he thought I wasnt truthful about the situation. I told him I was filing a complaint. He said "go ahead". I'm sure we are not the first customers complaining about the quality of Highway Fuel products and quality of management. The other employees are great. I immediately filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. read more

I was interested in purchasing a yard of gravel and a yard of sand and I visited several places around Salem to compare prices. I went here and stood around for about fifteen minutes in office trying to get assistance. Several workers came and went but every one of them dismissed my questions and acted as though I was imposing on them. I finally was able to ask some questions and even though the price was slightly less than other places, I went with another company solely based on the attitude I received from the people working here. read more
