Gurntner's is a nice garden center in south Salem. They have a bar in the mold that sales beer and wine that you can enjoy while shopping or sit in the cabana. We have purchased quite a few plants from here. We also, purchased bags of hazelnut shells for ground cover, which help detour cars and sails from your gardens. read more

This place is the "Whole Foods" of garden stores, one of the last left. Their prices reflect the high quality of plants and staff. So just know that you're paying more because of that. Someone complained that he had to carry a tree by himself; I would hazard a guess that he didn't ask for help, and by the tone of his comment, likely wasn't too approachable. Lot's of fun, whimsical items for the garden as well! Bring a camera and take pictures of your kids with King Kong or in fairy gardens. So if money's secondary to high quality in your gardening, this is the place for you. Else head to a big-box store, or drive out to Godfrey's in Aumsville. read more

Even in winter when gardens are dormant there is a lot to explore here. We went to pick up some red willow sticks to add to a display in our home and walked around for a while checking out all of their greenery the winter hardy plants and pops of color in their greenhouse, and looking at the statuary. It won't be long before spring is here and they will have an amazing selection of annuals and perennials to add to our landscape. read more

In the beginning of yard instillation things were great. Good work. Then after a year things were not followed up on. Plants started to die and they didn't follow up with the warranty. Wouldn't respond to phone calls, texts, or even when I came into the nursery to leave a message. I was left to hang out and dry. Now replanting and have come to found out my dead trees were planted with plastic twine around the roots suffocating the tree's root systems and there was not any good soil added to the Oregon clay. That is not the expertise I paid for. I have lost 4 trees and multiple plants. Customer service failed. NEVER COMING BACK!!!!! read more

Updating this because we found Godfrey's Nursery in Aumsville, which charges about a 1/4 of the cost for all plants (quite literally a consistent 66-75% less on virtually all items). All previous praise for Guentner's remains true and accurate - high quality plants, good variety, friendly staff, but if you're not in a rush to get your plants or you're up for a 12 mile drive out of Salem, I'd strongly encourage you to visit Godfrey's in Aumsville - we would have saved several hundred dollars over the past few years had we found it sooner! read more

Guentner's is a great nursery but whatever you do, do NOT buy their bulk compost or anything the compost is mixed with. I used their compost/soil mix on my garden this year and it killed everything. It is the single worst product I have ever used in my entire history of growing. I wouldn't mind so much, but I shared the horrible product with a neighbor and it killed her entire garden also. I feel sick about it. Go there for many of your supplies, but absolutely do NOT buy the bulk compost...unless your goal is to kill everything. read more

Won't be coming back here. Only reason they are getting two stars and not one is the tree I bought looked healthy and rooted out, but many other nurseries in he Salem area have healthy trees as well where I would recommend you do your business. While I was there not a single worker asked if I needed help with my selection or asked me what I was looking for. When I found the tree I liked on my own I lugged it to the check out and no one asked if I needed a cart or help lifting it. While checking out I asked for 15 gallons of bark dust for top dressing and they quoted me $15! Or I could by a half a yard for $12.50. Other nurseries usually will give you a bucket of chips for free when buying a tree- not this place. There are so many great nurseries in the Salem area don't waste your time here read more

This is my favorite place - I love the owners and the staff - (the dogs and cats) knowledgeable, helpful, friendly...what more do you need? I moved to Salem 12 years ago, and in that time, I have lost but a handful of plants, but it was my learning curve - not Guenter's...my yard has gone through two floods in that time, but because of their suggestions, work, and just all around service, I have a yard filled with their plants, and I recommend no one else, buy gardening cards no where else for gardening friends, and ask everyone to buy my gardening gift cards no where else - if prices might be a couple cents higher, do not fret - quality over quantity + home town business means the world to me. By the way, did I mention the very tasteful gift shop? The music? The wine? Cannot beat this place!!! Thank you Guentners's!!! See you in a couple days!!! read more

Pretty good selection. Went to a few other nurseries and their selection was less. I didn't find a few plants that I really wanted so I have to give it a 4 star. Good staff. I also ordered some deliveries and they did a great job of dropping the dirt and gravel off and it was in a neat pile on my tarp. Appreciate how close they are to my house. Great parking and I love to just Come and walk around here. It's a beautiful site. They also carry gift craft which I love and have beautiful gifts inside. read more

Mixed review. They are the only Salem source for flocked Christmas trees, but they do not keep their promises. I was promised that if I brought in a tree Sunday morning I could be sure to have it flocked, and when I brought it in, they said "O, we used all our flocking yesterday." They should have saved enough to keep their promise. They ruined my Christmas. read more

I really like this nursery and they are very knowledgeable and helpful and their prices are generally pretty competitive but today was quite the exception. I brought in a branch from my pine tree and the woman told me what it was and what I needed to spray it with. I bought the insecticide and then discovered I could have bought this for $10 less at Lowes. Like I said, I appreciate their help but $25 vs. $15 is a little outrageous. read more
