This place may not look all that special from the outside looking in, but once inside, you get a nice relaxed vibe tucked away from the hustle and bustle of the busy streets outside, with a clean and orderly look that, while not necessarily cozy, does invite you to stay awhile. The menu isn't overflowing with options, but what they do offer, they offer with a style all their own. From Matcha to Butterscotch lattes with a sprinkling of sea salt, almost everything they sell is made in-house, including that decadent butterscotch, which may be one of my favorite coffee drinks of all time. It just has this delicious, creamy finish that not many places can pull off well without making it too sweet. They also offer a few take-home goodies like adorable pins in the shape of latte cups, ($5-$10 a pop) and their signature store sign, as well as whole beans ready to be ground along with coffee-brewing/ drinking paraphernalia. Excellent local coffee establishment. We ordered a cappuccino and a butterscotch latte and they came out at the perfect drinking temperature. The ambiance inside was relaxed. The espresso here is excellent. You can tell that the baristas know how to get a sweetness out of the coffee when they pull the shots. I got a vanilla latte and it was perfect; not too sweet but definitely had a high quality vanilla flavor (I think I saw some vanilla seeds!). If you come here, I highly recommend getting a latte. I have also tried their cold brew. The cold brew is pretty awful to me. It has a very sour/bitter profile. If you like that, then I recommend it, but that is not my preference at all. Service was ok. We ordered some pastry items and the barista forgot to ask if we wanted them heated up. I felt too shy to ask her to warm them, but they delicious and high quality pastries. Would've been way better warmed, though. Prices were a bit high overall, but I would still recommend this place if you are in the area. read more

I've visited Highlight Coffee many times but haven't had a chance to review it! It's a great addition to the coffee places in Glendale and might be my favorite! Parking: Street parking for the most part. Free on Sundays and on the weekends after 6pm. On weekdays, it'll be paid metered parking and free parking after 8pm. Interior: As soon as you walk in, there's this balcony right behind the cashier and it's very beautiful. It always makes me feel like I'm in a theater. There are seating areas on both sides - one with standard tables and the other side has high bar stools. Great place to do work in, which I have done in the past pre-covid. Drinks: I've had their butterscotch latte in the past and it's PHENOMENAL. It's not overwhelmingly sweet either if you're concerned about sweetness. These days, I've been getting their iced matcha lattes, and theirs is very smooth and not too sweet. For those that are lactose intolerant, they do have other milk alternatives. (And yes, they have oat milk) Baked goods: Very recently, their vendors for their baked goods is with Sugarbloom Bakery in Glassell Park! They do sell their infamous Kimchi Spam Musubi croissant here but try to come early to get them fresh! The croissant itself is very flaky and airy until you get to the middle where you get a bite of kimchi and spam. It almost tastes like you're eating kimchi fried rice. read more

My friend and I stopped here for a coffee run and loved the place! You'll have to find street parking, but it's definitely worth it if you're a coffee lover. They really pride themselves on making coffee right, and the baristas are extremely experienced and love sharing about their coffee brewing methods. My friend got a pourover with Ethiopian beans, which was delicious! I got the cascara tea, which is tea made from the peel of coffee cherries. It was such a subtle distinct taste, that was really good! The space is a bit smaller, so better to come during off hours or take your coffee to go. read more

My favorite drink is the orange vanilla latte - good hot or iced - personally, I'm impartial to the iced with almond milk. It's unique and flavorful. They have a small assortment of baked goods - croissant varieties, etc. The only issue I would say some may have is parking. However, I usually park in a parking lot off Glendale ave (entrance by dollar tree) and just walk down. So it's all good! Overall, if you like good quality coffee and a friendly staff, I highly encourage you to skip your routine Starbucks run and check out this local gem. read more

Hello there I'm sorry but coffee was disgusting this morning. I've ordered latte with extra espresso shot checked pastry and it wasn't look delicious so just passed. Coffee wasn't roasted in my person opinion...just burned. Overall even with extra shot of espresso that was still too milk. I needed a caffeine kick while doing some last minute Christmas shopping and stopped by Highlight Coffee nearby. It's a cute cafe on the corner of Broadway and Glendale. I liked the simple and modern decor with lots of natural lighting. It would be a good spot to work at. They don't have outdoor seating but have a few tables inside. I got the butterscotch latte which the barista recommended and it was pretty good. The butterscotch flavor was strong. It was very sweet which was expected since it's butterscotch but I think you can request to have it less sweetened. There is only street parking which was difficult to find on the weekend. read more

Get it with oat milk, it makes it even better :) everyone who works there is super sweet too:) my only complaint is I wish they had paper cups or just something more recycle-able/compostable. Every single person in there was working on their laptop and I made a mental note that this would be a great place to get work done in the future. Been wanting to try this place for the last 3+ years. However it's a little difficult considering they have no designated parking and it's literally on the corner of a very busy intersection. I bought a cappuccino which I would give 3/5 and a plain croissant which tasted just like any other plain croissants (nothing special). It bothers me where a coffee shop doesn't have the means to heat up a croissant. The person was the owner according to him self. He was very argumentative about masks. Background on owner: Frank is a deciple of Demitasse. He really knows his coffee stuff and is very strict on which coffee roaster to use for his shop. Wi-fi: Yes they have! Yep yep yep! Credit Cards: Accepted! Coffee Beans: They rotate through couple of roasters. Demitasse, Phil and Sebastian, and Elabrew just to name a few. Restrooms: No restrooms. Recommendation from the owner is to use Chipotle' restroom. Factoid: The shop is located in the lobby of a historical hotel (Hotel Glendale) use to be. Background on visit: Rebecca from Regent Coffee (located on Brand and California) told me to follow the smell of coffee beans to Highlight Coffee and that it's only a mile away. She didn't have to tell me twice... eventhough I was a bit coffee wasted by the time I got to Highlight. Location/Parking: Located on the corner of Glendale Ave. and Broadway. Meter parking can be found along Glendale Blvd. or Broadway. I would suggest to park in the residential areas (Franklin Ct. or Everett St.) for free to get some exercise to and from the coffee shop. Ambiance/Decor: Love the ambiance/vibe of the shop. There's about 4 two-seaters and a bar table facing Glendale Ave. Service: Frank (owner) and Hugo were great! Friendly, attentive, and offered great recommendations of other coffee shops to visit. Cup size: A bit smaller than the usual for a regular cup (8oz). Who cares! I ordered a Costa Rica Granito Drip Pourover, and it definitely tasted like the flavors mentioned below (very berry like). I'll prcome back :) UPDATE: I went back a few days later and got an oat milks cappuccino and it was delightful. Bright, light, and not sour or over extracted, which happens a lot with cappuccinos. The vibe is still great, very relaxing. ALSO! I found out that they DO NOT CHARGE EXTRA for alternative milks. Best news! I think it's really admirable that they use good quality/more expensive milks and they don't charge extra for expensive alternative milks like oatly. Fantastic coffee!! My favorite was the Orange Vanilla Latte. The vibe and the coffee are all great. I heard that they are now serving grilled cheese sandwiches with creamy tomato soup (talk about YUM). Parking isn't so ideal since you had to rely on your parking karma. But never the less it is worth it to make a couple of loops around, and for sure you'll find a spot. Pay attention to details. Highlight coffee has hidden gems all around: from cute pins to succulent flowers, their decor is very simple yet chic. The building itself where they're located is a historic building. Built in 1925, it used to be The Hotel Glendale. So being there is a pretty big deal. Have a cup of coffee, or two, and enjoy knowing you're part of history :) read more

I thought I had left a glowing 5 star review years ago but- maybe I was trying to gatekeep Highlight(even though it was already popular). Highlight is the only reason I brave driving through Glendale(iykyk)- the orange vanilla latte is the best part of my morning these days. I'm so happy they're still here and the baristas serve up perfection every time. The coffee is always dialed, milk is a great temp(nothing worse than a boiling cappuccino ruining your taste for the rest of the day), and occasionally there's a kimchi musubi croissant left. I've had such great experiences with Highlight that when I went to another shop and saw the owner hanging there I felt like I had made a good decision trying it out. I now live equal distance between the two and frequent both- just keeping it in the fam I guess! read more

I asked them, and they said the closest place for restroom would be chipotle down the block, which is really close. Less than a min walk. I find this place on Yelp, it's one of the things I do for fun. Coffee hunt and wasn't disappointed with this finding. I'm not too familiar with the surrounding, but it seems like street parking is your only option, which offers 2 hours max for 2 dollars. Had a plain latte which was very tasty. They also have specialty drinks that are very unique + the standard coffee shop drinks. It's essentially an iced cappuccino, so a shot of espresso crowned with frothy foam. It's got a cloud like mouth feel, and is straight up delicious.
