Was here last night and had the corn bread and it was just ok. Dry. Not much flavour. In addition I got the ular burger and it's the driest thing I have ever had. Burger with cheese lettuce and a bun, that's nothing special. Fries were good. I have been here before and loved the club sandwich it was excellent . This time it's not so great. I had mini eggs cheese cake desert and my fiancé had bread pudding it was great. His Caesar salad was again basic and nothing special. His fish lacked flavour but was presentable. The breakfast special is a great deal and the coffee is good as well. I recommend the cinnamon bun - the bun itself is very fresh and moist, however, it doesn't have that extra gooey filling that I like my cinnamon buns to have. That might be a good thing, though, if you don't want your dessert to be too rich. As for the Ural Burger, which I tried on a separate occasion, I didn't think it was especially flavorful, and I wouldn't order it again, but that's likely because the burger patty is made from extra lean meat. If you're looking for something light (by burger standards) it might be for you. read more

We were needing a gluten free restaurant close to downtown as we were going before the chris de burgh concert and was I glad I Google them and listened to the reviews. This place was amazing from the time we walked in to we left, we all had the Ukrainian platter (they have gluten free perogys for my daughter and her friend) and then a bowl latte and bread pudding for desert and being I grew up on it it was as good as my dad's recepie and them some and the fresh cream that comes with was to die for. I love the Highlevel Diner. Even before I moved to Edmonton I would come here at every visit. I think that this place really speaks for itself - comfort food, casual, filling, and yummy. I come here with family members usually. The dinner menu is good and the atmosphere is great for casual conversation, its just the right amount of fancy for a nice night out. I think my favorite part of this place is their desert menu, I would recommend checking that out. So don't get too full on dinner! They also have a nice selection of unique beers! I remember trying a ginger beer there! The only thing is that it's impossible to find parking! read more

My boyfriend and I went here for lunch today and we were both impressed. We came at 11am, so the breakfast lunch had just died down and the place was so quiet. It was a nice change because I am so used to this place being filled and bustling. I ordered a greek omlette but wanted it made with only 1 egg and the rest egg whites. Our waitress said that would be no problem at all, and when my boyfriend ordered the breakfast special with no eggs, she offered to sub in fruit for not extra charge. The food came super quick and my coffee cup was never empty. It was really nice to be waited on like that. The place started to fill up again as we were leaving and the lunch patrons came in. First time at Highlevel Diner for brunch. I'm thinking it was hyped up way too much for me. First of all, a friend rates his brunch spots on a tiered system from 1 to 3, where 1 is the best. He had talked Highlevel up so much as it was on top of all the Tier 1s. Second, the lineup is always insane. Every time I go past on the weekend the line up is always out the door. Third, one day we found ourselves in that crazy line up out the door. My wife suggested going to another brunch spot (as there's a few around the area) and another guy in line with the utmost confidence said, "But this place is awesome," while giving the nod. All right, we're sold. Waited in line for about 20 minutes (not bad I suppose) and by this point I'm definitely expecting the best brunch ever. When we get the menu I notice that it's quite small. I generally don't like small menus as I like to have options but I'm like OK... they must do this stuff really well. I went for the farmer's omelette. All I can say is UNDERWHELMING. Way too much egg to other stuff ratio. I thought the toast that I ordered with my meal was astounding and tasted way better than the omelette. Cinnamon bun was all right. I have a feeling I will become a regular at High Level Diner - just moved to the neighbourhood and I've already gone twice in one week! I love the casual, cozy home feel of the restaurant. The tables are close, tucked into nooks and crannies. You feel like you are among friends. Thursday nights during the summer there is the Ukrainian special - perogies, sausage, cabbage rolls and borscht. The highlevel is a major favourite here in Edmonton, and I was happy to get to experience it on a very busy (and cold) Saturday AM. Service is good, coffee is good, and the food is good too. Nothing stood out as over the top to me, but the homemade ketchup is worth a mention - it's pretty outstanding. I was a bit disappointed in the potatoes that came with my breakfast - as breakfast potatoes go, these were really underwhelming; overcooked, and somewhat soft when they should be crispy. However, their GF toast allowed me to enjoy a wonderful eggs benny, which was a very nice treat. read more

We came here last week for brunch. It was a very nice day and luckily we didn't have to wait long to be seated. I ordered an omelette and iced coffee while my husband ordered eggs Benedict and coffee. He ordered a cinnamon roll too, and both of us couldn't believe how huge it was. High level diner has been around for many years and if you want home cooked food this is the place for you! They make all of their sauces in house and have a variety of food for all diets. I wouldn't say it's fantastic but it's alright. I prefer their lunch menu to the breakfast. Every time we have ordered breakfast we have been disappointed. I have heard a lot about Highlevel Diner but I think people may have over hyped it a little bit. I went here for lunch and had the Mexican Lasagna and it was good, not great. They have a nice little patio area which is really fun in the summer and they have many drinks. The service is very attentive unless it gets really busy then its a little bit tougher to get there attention. Overall it is a good place but I didn't think it was amazing. read more

I went to Highlevel for a Sunday brunch with my friends and was not surprised to see a long line pouring out of the front door. I had hear good reviews and most restaurants that have survived off of Whyte for that long are there for a reason. We waited for about 15 minutes which in the land of brunch is barely worth calling a wait and were seating at a four top in the middle of the restaurant. We were greeted right away by our server who let us know their special as well as took our drink order. I was the only one that requested something other than water (a coffee) and started to peruse the menu. They had a good selection for a brunch and I also found out that they offer a full Celiac menu for their Sunday brunch which I was impressed by. Most offer celiac options not a whole menu! We ordered our food, I got the eggs benny with fresh fruit and toast and my two friends ordered the veggie omelet one with just egg whites. I received my coffee after the server took our order and much to my chagrin the sugar on the table was almost empty and what was left in the bottom was hard as a rock. The server apologized that it was not filled and immediately got me a new one. I did not see him set the small pitcher of cream for my coffee unfortunately which lead me to believe that it was sitting there during the previous guests visit. Don't get me wrong I am not usually anal about this kind of thing except for the sheer amount of children that I saw scampering around made me wonder how safe a un-lidded pitcher of cream was sitting unsupervised on the table. I have seen children lick the salt shakers at other establishments unsupervised which kind of takes away my carefree nature. I gave it a thorough inspection and once I deemed that it did not look contaminated I proceeded to doctor up my coffee. Our food took a reasonable time to arrive given how busy the place was and the portions were decent for the price. The omelets looked well made with a hearty serving of vegetables and a tonne of tangy Parmesan melted on top. My friends thoroughly enjoyed their meal and were quite happy to find a vegetarian omelet that was an actual omelet not a salad with eggs on it. My eggs benny was also very good; the eggs were cooked to perfection, the muffin was crisp and back bacon was nicely smoked. I would have liked more hollandaise as I feel that it is part of the dish not just a garnish, but I am sure my waist line agrees with them not me. The server was quite attentive throughout and refilled my coffee a few times which I appreciate given most brunch service. I did have a hard time with the giant wall of window catchers behind our table though as they were reflecting sun from the patio directly into my friends and my eyes but it was to dark other wise to put on sunglasses. I also found the noise level on par with a nightclub unfortunately. I am sure that it was because we were sitting right in the middle of the throng but it is the first time I have left a brunch with a hoarse voice. All things aside I know that I probably visited them during their busiest day of the week and as such I am excited to visit again and see if I can bump my review up from a three star. read more

Delicious! The best fries I've had since I moved here. The soup was rich and tasty, the grilled cheese was fantastic, and the burgers were tasty. The meat was a little dry but the bun was great and the toppings were lovely. Good coffee, too. We've got a cinnamon bun here for dessert tonight. I hope it lives up to the legend. Excellent breakfast to be had at this Edmonton institution. I usually go on Fridays when it's a little less packed. Great food and friendly service. Parking can, at times, be difficult and the lot directly to the north can fill up. I would suggest getting here early on weekends to avoid waiting for upwards of an hour in a line that snakes out the door. I get the pancakes because why not but most of their breakfast offerings are excellent. If you're up for the caloric indulgence (and diabetic coma) get the cinnamon bun. It's likely the best in the city, rivaled only by the creation at neighboring Sugar Bowl. They are large and probably should be split between dining mates. read more

I love the location of the Highlevel Diner, I love the mismatched tables & chairs, and I love their world-famous cinnamon buns!! My sister and I decided to finally check this place out for 'brunch' the other weekend, and I'm happy I did! I had an omelette & fruit, and my sister tried their blueberry pancakes, all of which was pretty good...not AMAZING, but pretty good! This is a fabulous place for breakfast. Let me start with the decor. It's beautifully decorated with various pieces of art from local artists. All of which you can purchase, if you like. The food was delicious. We all ordered the breakfast special. I didn't think you could do much with "home fries" but these were amazing. Crispy on the outside and warm and soft inside. They even had better than average coffee which is surprisingly rare for restaurants. Make sure you try the Cinnamon Bun. It's exquisite. Nice and fluffy and not too sweet. So never being here before the excitement has been building as time got closer to our visit. We planned our dinner along with an Oil Kings game. Seemed perfect, head out early have dinner then head to Rogers Place. We get seated and order our drinks. The menu has many choices and unfortunately my stomach isn't large enough to accommodate the entire menu not to mention the wallet won't have enough for one of everything. The teenager orders a cheeseburger minus sprouts, sprouts sounds delicious on a burger to me but to each their own. My wife ordered the chicken fajitas which looked fantastic from across the table. Myself I decided to order the pulled pork enchilada. The entire meal was delicious. The enchilada was to die for, the refried beans were so flavourful. Was even able to score one of my kids fries dipped in the house made ketchup. All in all I would definitely return and without a doubt I wouldn't hesitate to order the same meal. My wife even said the chicken fajitas would be something she'd love to have again. I think the true test of a meal is weather your will to say you'd eat the same thing again. YES WE WOULD! Wish I had taken pictures but I guess next time I will. All out plates were clean when we finished. Dessert was strawberry rhubarb pie for my wife and I had the lemon ice gelato. Caesar Salad: Lots of flavour, good dressing ratio. Burger: Hugely underwhelming. This is supposed to be one of the better burgers in Edmonton (as per reviews hanging in the entry). I live in Calgary and was trying to send Easter dinner to my 91-year old father in Edmonton. During the COVID pandemic, delivery is almost impossible. When I tried to order from High Level Diner, there was no possibility of delivery. My daughter and I went for breakfast to the Highlevel Diner this morning. The eclectic decor was cool and was further enhanced by the funky little pieces of art being showcased on the walls. Our server, Mico, was professional and engaging. The prices were reasonable and our meals were served in a timely manner. Breakfast was excellent and the coffee was the best! The Highlevel Diner is one of those rare restaurants that I consider as close to perfect as it gets. The menu is really well rounded. It's not like one of those restaurants that have five things on the menu, but there's not too much so that it's overwhelming to decide. A couple of sandwiches, a couple burgers, salads, some Mexican dishes and some other ethnic dishes (curry, Greek). I had the chicken fajita last night and it was great. Two big fajitas covered in sour cream, guacamole and salsa, with rice and beans on the side. And since it was Mexican Monday (only Feb. and Mar.), I got $2 off! Always love to save money. I've also had the Ural burger in the past, which is a little special because it is made from "local antibiotic & hormone free super lean seasoned beef", so I don't feel quite so guilty about eating a big burger. The fries are great and the homemade ketchup is to die for! The menu is kind of like a big old list of comfort foods, and everything I've tried or even seen on other people's plates looks delicious. Anyone I've ever dined with has also always been happy with their meal. I have one friend who swears by the Grilled Chicken and Cheddar sandwich. It's like a grilled cheese with chicken, dipped in egg. There are a couple of special nights each week - for example, Turkey Tuesdays and Ukrainian Thursdays. I haven't tried either yet, but I'd love to check out Ukrainian Thursday. The room is average sized, but very cozy. It almost feels like someone has invited you over to their place for a home cooked meal. There are some beautiful paintings all over the walls, and right when you walk into the restaurant, between the doors, there are lots of flyers advertising local shows (art, music, plays). The tables are almost always completely full, but I've never had to wait more than five minutes. Some of them are kind of close together, but it's not a big deal. They don't take reservations for parties less than six. You can tell that the servers really enjoy working there and are proud of the diner. I've always had above average service here, and I really appreciate that. Parking can be a pain. There are very limited spots on the street (if you're lucky), and a lot across the street that customers across the street can park in if they write down their license plate number at the restaurant. We did so last night, but still got a ticket. If that happens, take the ticket to the restaurant immediately and they will deal with it for you. read more
