Here's the deal: The Highlands has been our neighborhood pub for about eight years and we've always loved it. We visit about 4 to 6 times per month for lunch and dinner. The food is great - very consistent and at least a few steps better than common bar food. The problem is that over the last few months, the dinner (Friday//Saturday) staff don't provide good service. They're surly and rushed, virtually throwing the food and drinks down in front of patrons who are sitting out in the restaurant and gaming areas of the place. Then, you see them hanging out at the bar - where the regulars and industry folks are, laughing and chatting with their friends and pouring fat cocktails for them. I've been in places like the Highlands across the United States and frankly, I've never experienced such poor service. These problems have only been in the last six months and, we're going to vote with our wallet, taking the Highlands off our list for dinner until we've heard that service has improved. read more

My favorite sports bar in Eugene. The Kung-Fu wings served on Monday nights are by far the best wings I've ever had. These wings are honestly better than all of the dedicated wing outlets I've been to, and are $5 for 10. I've never been disappointed with the other food either, and the service has been great. read more

We went in for a snack and "whoa!" What a menu! Everything on their menu sounds delicious. I decided on the portabello sandwich- it was delectable. Thick sliced toasted wheat bread, a marinated portabello cap, sauteed onions and bell peppers with sun-dried tomato pesto and melted cheese. MmMm. Matto and I ended up at the Highlands with a couple friends on Thanksgiving. Last time we were in they had Lord of the Rings pinball- which is a lame game. However they currently have Batman- based on The Dark Night. None of us had played this game before so we got a little four person tournament play on. For a brand new Sterns game it was actually quite fun! There is something overly simplistic about a lot of the newer games- I'm not sure if it's something about the graphics or the actual play, but they often seem to be missing the subtlety of late 80's through mid 00's pins. There was touch of that feeling to the game but I think all the moving pieces and locks made up for it: the rotating Joker figure, a moving wrecking ball arm with magnetized wrecking ball, and the Batmobile. I could be biased by the fact I popped it on the first game but the Dark Knight was surprisingly fun to play. I'll have to go give it second try sometime. read more

I'm giving highlands high marks. The only negative I can mention is that there were only two servers/bartenders working so at times things could be a bit slow, but overall they kept up pretty well. The place is bigger inside than I expected and had pretty nice atmosphere and clientele. They have 32 beers on tap and the food was pretty good (had the smoky penne with smoked cheddar cheese and ham, yum). Overall I spent $20 for 4 beers and an entree, not bad. Of course, as it turned out every other thursday night is trivia night. It was a blast and we all had a great time with some friendly competition. We ended up winning a bird feeder, photo album, board game (which I gave to one of the other groups who were being gracious sports about our trivia dominance) and a $20 gift certificate which paid for my night of fun. Trivia is completely free and takes place every other thursday. They also have 6 pool tables, a ping pong table, skee-ball and a few arcade games. I was told wednesday night is free pool night. Oh, did I mention 32 beers on tap and out of the way enough to avoid the college crowd? Deal! read more

Amazing beer selection. This place consistently satisfies my IPA craving with a choice of at least 3 on tap. Lately I've been digging the Laurelwood IPA. They offer enough beers on tap (maybe 24?) to make everyone happy. They also have an extensive menu and while I might not reccomend splurging on their fish and chips, the burgers are decent and made with Oregon Natural Beef. Their fries are pretty darn good and the nachos look gigantic. Points for having a bunch of pool tables, ping pong and darts. An eclectic juke box and friend bar staff round out this pleasant neighborhood bar. Now I know where my husband is when he says he's going around the "corner". read more

We ordered 2 burgers and wings to go I should have checked the bag before I left because one burger didnt get its side. On top of that the burgers had no seasoning and were over cooked. The wings were ok just no dipping sauce. Over all we hadn't been out to eat in over a year and were excited to see they were open again but we are disappointed in the quality. read more

This is by far my favorite bar. The atmosphere is always chill, although a bit crowded during the big games. All other nights though service is always super fast and attentive. The bartenders remember you and treat you like friends, which is super cool. Mike and the pretty, blonde lady are my favorites, although they are all awesome, really. The bar is super stocked, and they always make the crazy drinks I come up with and they hook it up. I also love playing pool there; they have 4 pool tables, foosball, darts, shuffleboard, ginormous jenga, and pingpong. Love it! Only one thing I would change is the soda selection, I like Dr. Pepper and Sierra Mist and they have neither, but maybe a lot of bars don't? I have no idea, this is really the only one I frequent. The food is good; not always the best, but I haven't tried that many items yet. Also their prices are inexpensive all around which completely makes up for it. I was surprised to see a negative review of Michael, the bartender, on here. We've been coming here for over a decade, and he is the main reason we come, although the food is good too. We love how he treats us like family and visits with us when time allows. The wings are the best in town, and the burgers are great too. Breakfast can be a bit hit and miss. Thanksgiving Night we stopped in to get some food to go. The service was great! I overheard the other customers talking. They are not the usual wait staff, but back of the house. They did a great job. I would never have known if I hadn't heard others say so. They were attentive, knowledgeable, friendly and truly team players. Great job! Thanks for the meal. And... This was a good place to stop in for breakfast because it is within walking distance of a friend's house I was staying at. The waitress was friendly and although she was the only one working, she was attentive and kept our drinks refilled. I ordered the "regular" breakfast - which included eggs, hashbrowns, sausage and toast. It was alright, nothing spectacular. My friends ordered the breakfast burrito which looked pretty tasty. The meal was cheap and quick, but overall just okay - not horrible, not fantastic. I will probably go back for convenience but I don't think I would make it a favorite stop. read more

The Highlands is fun, just unfortunately far away. But maybe that is what makes it so awesome... a hidden gem! The food is cheap and pretty good, and they have TONS of beers on tap. (well... like 12 or so at any given time...) and the pitchers are big. We just moved out to the south hills so I anticipate haunting this place regularly to play some pool (which is free on certain nights of the week!), grab some cheap grub and a beer every now and then. I love the highlands. Been coming here for 5 years, it's my lil watering hole on the south side of town. And maybe cause there really isn't a whole lot of options, but it's still a favorite. The staff is friendly and while I have seen many good friends come and go from behind the counter and in the kitchen it's always a place that feels like home. They have good deals and specials (10 wings for $4 on Mondays and $4 appetizers on Wednesdays being my favorite) and come football season it is THEE place to go watch games on Sundays. Daily food specials and a beer of the day are also nice additions. Plenty of games to play: pool, shuffleboard, ping ping, basketball, foosball table, and darts. Overall this place has always had a place in my heart and will going forward. Come check it out if you haven't, hopefully you will find as great as I have. read more

Big fan of this bar... my wife and I walk down here fairly often and play shuffleboard, video lottery, get drinks and dinner with friends. The bar staff is super quick and professional but also will have some fun with you. Always know it's going to be a blast when I see Mike/Matt working. The best bar you don't know about in the Eugene area. Have the good fortune to live near the Highlands. Service is A+, food is great and tons on taps on hand for whatever beer you're in the mood for. My group of friends and I (5-10 people) come here every Sunday during football season and Saturdays for away duck games. Plenty of room and even more TVs for whatever team/sport you want to watch. I really enjoy this place. Kind of a weird little dive bar but it's my favorite place for game day. The booths have small TVs and they have a bomb Burger and brew special on Saturdays. I love the California burger. Small selection of beers on tap but good beer. They also have pacman, darts, and ping pong. Wednesday nights pool is free. This has always been my go to place, and I'm sad to say it may not be any longer. Mike, the bartender is very rude to the customers there, both regulars and guests. You can't even ask for a to go box without some sort of attitude. If there is more than one person to serve he gets all flustered. He has no business working in the bar industry at all whatsoever! The food is great, the other bartenders are great, but Mike needs to go. I would suggest not coming when he works which is Thursday - Saturday if you do come. I had given him many of chances, but I'm tired of feeling like you have to walk on egg shells around him. He has horrible customer service. read more

Highlands has got to be my favorite bar in the south end of Eugene, all of the staff is amazing! Mikey and Adam are by far the best though, they are both so funny and sweet. Every time I go in Mikey is on top of his game giving the best customer service I have ever seen, he's truly a power house of a bartender. Anyone that goes in when he's working is in for a serious treat, he can make even the worst days way better with all kinds of really funny jokes and fun magic tricks. When a bunch of us want to go out and have some casual fun and beer, we go here. There are tv's everywhere (one at each table, plus big screens elsewhere), plenty of pool tables, free ping pong, darts, and good sized bar. They have a good assortment of beers on tap, can make tasty mixed drinks, and the music works well for us. They have daily drink specials, and I've even been here for breakfast that was pretty darn tasty (the special of the day: chicken fried steak Omelet with gravy on top). Where else can you go for breakfast and have a tasty pint of IPA? It's not a fancy place, there's no dance floor, the furniture is, well, bar furniture, but it's fun. We'll keep coming back. In fact, I wish it was a little closer to town. It's up in the hills south of town, and you need to drive through a residential neighborhood to get there, but it's a nice find. read more
