Brunch: We signed up to get into the brunch over 6 months ago for a November reservation, because…read morereservations are notoriously hard to get for the brunch here, touted online as one of the best in Vegas.
But we ended up getting offered a comp for the brunch for my friends birthday so we were SO excited to get to go a month earlier than expected and we were able to take her mom.
When we arrived for brunch (2 weeks ago) it was extremely disappointing. The food was very cold even in the middle (potatoes) and the meat was very overcooked. The beef wellington was grey and the prime rib wasn't recognizable. The lobster bisque was bland and had no flavor. The service was lacking and confused.
I loved the creme brulee however, the lamb was ok and I loved the sauce that went on the side of that.
Sodas, teas/coffees are NOT included in the $100 price tag either, which is absolutely insane to me.
The food and service was so lackluster, we cancelled our Nov reservation while we sat there.
Fast forward to Dinner this past week:
We were invited to an event in the Asian restaurant that my friend couldn't attend (she is highly allergic to shellfish) so her host who ran into US, offered us a comp for Anthonys .My friend had left her phone and her ID at home, but her host assured to explain to the waiter and she can come down if needed to confirm. She loaded the comp and we were good to go.
We sat in the restaurant and my friend informed the waiter right away, that we had a comp and the players card, but no ID, however the host could verify her identity if needed and said we could come to eat and that this was ok! The Waiter said no problem, took our order and all was good. The food was very good.
Towards the end of our dinner, a young girl came over to say without the ID we cant use a comp. My friend explained the host said to contact her upstairs (she didn't have her phone but they were at an event upstairs), she said she would vouch for my friend and handle it for us. The lady confirmed the name of the host and walked away.
A few minutes later, who I assume was the manager came over and I am so sorry, I didn't catch his name.
He was tall, stocky and bulky, he had a short spiky dark haircut/crewcut, maybe he is hispanic of some origin or Middle Eastern and he said we can't use a comp with no ID. It's against policy.
My friend repeated again, what the host has said and he said 'not my problem."
He said (and i quote) 'that's not my job to figure out." And he shook his head at us and waved his arms out as if he was helpless. His behaviour was slightly panicking and quite icky actually. My friend said well why were we allowed to order when we had said it to the waiter? Then he said (and I quote) he could 'charge it to our room" and we both stared at him in shock.
If he can't use a comp with no ID, tell me how he can charge something to the room with no ID??
My friend stood up to go upstairs to find the host, as we were not getting anywhere and she came back with the Director of Marketing. He was very kind and he handled the whole situation within minutes for us and apologized, that manager hid in the back afterwards and I never got his name.
The dinner was less than $150, we had the money, but it wasn't about the money.
I understand if there is policy, but the waiter should not have taken our order if they couldn't use the comp.
As a manager in a 'fancy' restaurant, in a casino, in a major city that's struggling to get people to come and spend especially, it IS YOUR JOB to help out your guests. When I was in hospitality, it didn't matter if someone in my restaurant had a housekeeping issue or a transportation question, you best believe I would go out of my way to help figure it out for them, though it was 'not my area'.
The brand, the customer, their satisfaction, that is all relative to a good experience and you want them to come back, this all IS YOUR JOB.
Now we will never go back to Anthonys and if you do go, just consider my words here today.
