I work at AAA down the street, and this place l always recommend to my members. This shop is fast efficient and reliable. The owner is very thorough and efficient with his work. In and out in 10 minutes read more

We sold my son's truck and needed to smog it while the buyer waited for it. They were so helpful and very fast. Great price. I had called another local smog business and they quoted me $21.00 more for the same service. read more

They are fast and friendly! Even checked my tire pressure and added air! Thanks!

Super clean, incredibly fast and Matt couldn't have been a nicer guy. Thoughly impressed! Why wouldn't you choose to go here is the real question. I'm even throwing in an extra read more

They were very busy yesterday, but fit me in between appointments. I really appreciated it since two other places said they couldn't get to me. I needed my car smoged that day for dmv registration. They were very professional and extremely friendly. They are also experts (they teach other people on how to smog cars.) The women who worked with us at AAA recommended them. I will be back next year for my other cars smog test! read more

Writing a good review on the same day I went in to get a smog check within the same hour it was done? Unheard of!! I called earlier this morning to ask how much a smog check was and if I could make an appointment. The man on the phone (sorry, I cannot remember names) set up my appointment for 12:00pm. I came in at 12:00pm and I was out the door by 12:09pm. AMAZING! I came in expecting 15-20 minutes and I am beyond thrilled with the small amount of time it took to smog my car. Granted, they only had one car ahead of me, but regardless, I've been to other smog shops with one or two cars ahead of me and have waited close to an hour!! On top of the exemplary lack of wait time, every single employee was super kind, accommodating and knew their stuff. I was asked to fill out a form by the male with blue eyes who seemed to be in charge of the front desk and answering the phone. The form seems to offer a $10 discount for military, students, etc. An elderly woman came out and offered me coffee or water, and we had a nice conversation about the upcoming holidays. I'm assuming this business may be family owned? It sure seems like it. The tech himself was super fast, efficient, and beyond polite. The office itself reminded me of the inside of a home. Holiday decorations EVERYWHERE! I didn't mind it one bit, it felt much more comfortable then a sterile car shop environment. Thank you High Tech Auto for providing such a 5 star service in every aspect possible! Highly highly recommend this place. read more

Got me in right away for a smog check, only took 15 minutes and the price was very fair.

Great place for a smog certification!! Quick service was very much appreciated! Got in and out in 15 minutes!

I work at a local shop that uses High tech auto smog for all our smog needs. I brought in my personal car to get a smog check this time. Let me tell you, Matt is a super cool guy and always takes care of us. This place is clean and professional and has great customer service. He always gets the smogs done in a timely manner and has great prices for the service. This should be the only place you go for your smog needs. read more

Had my car smog checked there with almost an immediate appointment. They are very professional and extremely nice!

Went to change the title on my car a few years ago and found out I needed a smog check. This place was down the street but, they were very accommodating and I was in and out quickly. Price was fair and I believe they still have a discount for first time customers. This is thre only place I go to now for my smog checks. read more

I just left High Tech Auto and again the service was outstanding. My inspector was again Matt. I would still highly recommend using them. I made the appointment, arrived a little early and was assisted right away. No non-sense. Also, if you go to their website, they offer a coupon. Check 'em out! You won't regret it. read more

This company is the best! Thank you Matthew for your courteous, professional and efficient service.

I was referred here for a smog check by Dennis at Allen's Wrench (and my DMV registration!) I was greeted promptly and nicely. My car was checked and passed, I paid was out of there within 30 minutes. Clean waiting area, lots of magazines and nicely air-conditioned! I recommend them, and Allen's Wrench! Thanks! read more

Always honest; they have helped me with several cars and are consistently reliable and attentive. Family run and owned and it shows.

I have been going to HIGH TECH AUTO for my smog check and certificate for over 10 years. Also, had the company vehicles smogged there. The service is quick ( make an appt.), efficient and most of all HONEST. And, their pricing is good. read more

These guys are fantastic! Like many other reviewers, I was in and out within 15 minutes. Plus they were able to take me on extremely short notice. I'll be coming back in the future. Highly recommended! read more

Called for a smog check appointment, the gentleman who took my call was very pleasant and got me booked for the following day. The facility has a waiting area, but I hardly needed it as my car was done within 15 minutes. Again, the gentleman helping me was super friendly. I can comfortably recommend this shop, and encourage you to go to their website for a coupon. read more

Always hesitate to offer up a 5-STAR "EXCELLENT" rating unless the company-agency-service goes well "above and beyond" in terms of everything associated with my needs/requirements. In this case, I needed an updated CA "Smog Check Vehicle Inspection Report" or VIR. Last week, based on YELP reporting, thanks guys & gals, I made a telephonic reservation with High Tech Auto (HTA) for the first available date-time slot which was today, Monday 22 Mar 21 at 11:00 AM. As is my custom, whenever possible I show up to/at appointments 30-60 min earlier than the agreed upon time. Today, Monday 22 Mar, I arrived at HTA at 9:35 AM. Nonplussed, Matt, working in a bay, came out and very politely checked me in and directed me to their small but clean waiting area. As an aside, the waiting area television set was on and tuned into one of the car-oriented shows which was quite interesting. Although there were cars in 2 of the 3 bays and customers pulling into the parking lot, Matt efficiently and expeditiously focused on and finished my inspection. He even remembered to give me a $10 military discount! By 10:30 AM I was out the door! It was obvious to me why HTA was essentially a "word of mouth" kinda place garnering customer "kudos". BOTTOM LINE: HIGH TECH AUTO is the place to patronize if you need SMOG inspections. As an aside, the shop area appeared to be well equipped, clean with instruments (mechanical & electronic) properly calibrated. Matt is a "look you in the eye" and "let's get 'er done" kinda guy. A real PRO. Apparently, the shop is looking to upgrade their services beyond SMOG inspections; if and when this happens, well, I'll be there! read more

We have used High Tech Auto for at least a decade with no concerns. Friendly and quick.

They are always quick, friendly and trustworthy. What more could you ask for from a smog check station?! I won't go anywhere else.

Absolute best of the best, Gold Standard. Professional, personable and 100% integrity.

I have been going there since 2007 and have never had a problem, unfortunately on 7/13/11 I had a terrible experience. The day before 7/12/11 I went in during my lunch and scheduled an appointment for the next day. The older lady was very sweet and pleasant, she even gave me extra business card for me to give to my coworkers which I did. On my appointment date as they verified my appointment the employee Tom stated how busy they were and seemed unhappy at the added work to his day. The front desk employee smiled and said they would gladly take care of me. After waiting 30min, Tom told me he could not continue the smog test because of my very common after-market air-filter. I explained how the part is very common because it increases your miles to gas ratio and how it had not been an issue the previous two times I had given them my business. Tom proceeded to check the air-filter on-line but typed in the wrong motor size, I pointed out the mistake but it did not matter. Since I only live five minutes away I went home to get the 50-state legal slip that came with the air-filter. Once I arrived back at High Tech Auto Tom did not look thrilled and went back on-line to verify the slip, once he realized that it was legal he told me he could not complete my smog-check because he was now working on a new vehicle and walked off. The other technician did not know what to do and redirected me to Tom once again. At this moment he said my vehicle was leaking, I laughed and told him the air conditioner was on, Tom once again stated he could not help me and if the other tech wanted he could complete the smog-test. I asked Tom what the consensus was, because he was acting like a dip-stick since I had come in which was about an hour ago. Tom said he would not complete the test and stated he should have failed and kicked me out since the beginning. I was shocked because he was only looking for an excuse not to help me since the beginning, even after having an appointment and proving the air-filter was 50-states legal. There are tons of smog-test stations in San Marcos that will appreciate customers, therefore I asked for my keys back and left. From now on I will discourage my friends and family from going there, by telling them how I was treated. Furthermore, when I go back to work I am going to ask for the business cards I gave out and toss them into the trash can and inform my co-workers how HIGH TECH AUTO IS NOT SO GREAT AFTER ALL. It is unfortunate for them to loss my business, because I am a San Marcos resident who would have probably continued to go there if Tom would have shown me respect and courtesy! In addition The office staff had excellent customer service particularly the older lady who was very sweet! read more

High Tech Auto was recommend by Al Cerda of Auto Tune when I needed to take my 85 CJ7 to a "check only" station. Since Auto Tune is now closed, I take my fleet to High Tech for all my smog needs. I was loyal customer of Auto-Tune for 20 years and I will be a loyal customer of High Tech Auto for the next 20. Great team and great service will always get my business. read more

I am giving High Tech Auto 5, very enthusiastic stars, and the employees here earned every single one! I came in without an appointment to get my new car, which I had purchased in Arizona, smogged to California standards in order to complete my registration. I walked in without an appointment, hoping for the best and they were able to do it that day. I filled out my paperwork as they finished up with the appointment they were working on at the moment. The employee then gave me a copy of the papers and told me exactly how much it was going to cost. They even gave me a coupon rate without a coupon, which saved me ten bucks! I waited in their office, which is very quaint in decor with nice chairs and tons of reading material to keep you occupied. A very nice old lady (I'm assuming one of the owners) then came into the waiting area and offered everyone complimentary bottled water, coffee and candy. She was too sweet! :-) My smog was done very quickly, at about exactly the 30 minute time frame they told me. Once done, they walked me to the work area to pay and get my car back. They were very helpful in explaining my next steps about getting my car registered, telling me that they had filed it electronically and should show up in DMV records by Monday, and that I could mail in my other papers so I could skip having to wait at the DMV. When paying, I expected the usual gambit of taxes and fees that smog places charge (electronic filing fee, tax, etc.) but was astonished when I was charged only the exact amount they quoted me- no additional taxes or fees! High Tech auto has fully earned a very satisfied and now very loyal customer. They have provided me the best customer service at any mechanic/car place and possibly the best customer service overall! I am going to fully recommend them to all of my friends, and they even gave me coupons to pass on to others, which I will gladly do. My only complaint is that High Tech auto does only smog checks and isn't a full auto repair shop, because I would love to have a mechanic as friendly, honest and quick-working as them. :-) read more

Clean, fast and nice people. Easy to get to and Quick response on Yelp. Thank Al from Terry's Auto for the recommendation

Wowzers! Who knew that a smog place could be like this? Instant service, the smog check only took about 10-15 minutes, and I didn't actually have an appointment. Cutest older woman working there. I forget her name, it started with an M. (Margaret? Marjorie?) I just wanted to give her a hug. She offered coffee, water, and snacks as I sat down. Very nice of them to provide considering their services do not take very long. They have the most awesome, random holiday decor that I'm pretty sure stays up year round. Some may find it odd but I found it fun, homey, and quite comfortable. :) Good news is I passed the smog test. Thanks Aaron and your partner in crime out in the smog shop! (I unfortunately didn't catch his name) Bad news is I won't need to go back until I need another smog check in a few years. Thanks for your help today! :) Ps. For those thinking of going there, on the form I filled out when I got there I saw that they give discounts to military, firefighters, San Marcos business owners and their employees, and others. read more

Needed a place close to my work to get a smog test done. Came in for an 8:15 appointment and was out in about 15 minutes as opposed to over an hour when I took it elsewhere 2 years ago. Didn't get the mans name that helped me but he couldn't be more friendly. I would recommend this place to anyone. read more

Matt was super helpful, honest and FAST. Thank you for helping me so quickly!! AAA gave me this referral and because of that I wasn't sure if they'd be really expensive or not... But I was in a hurry, so I called and he said if I got there when they opened he could do it right away. Not only was the price great, they gave me a AAA $10 discount. The test cost me $40. So I went in. The waiting room is pleasant (playing Christian music which I thought was a nice plus) and the wait was short. Matt got the results quickly and I was out the door and over to the AAA off Las Poses with the results in under 1/2 hour. THANK YOU - I highly recommend this place. read more

Coming from somebody in the automotive business, this place understands service done right. I have been referring my customers to Tom for years for their smog needs including taking my own cars to him. I know smuggling a car in California with all of this lovely satiate emission laws can be overwhelming, but these people make sure it's done right, legally, and in a timely manner. Price wise, I think they are competitive with any other smog shop. Beware of the cheaper places, I notice some of them will "test" your car knowing it will fail, charge you, then offer a discounted retest. It's what we call " double dip". Don't fall for it! Take it where it will be done right the first time. read more

Tom & crew have past the test of time for sure when it comes to being a popular local shop we can count on. Expect a very professional and well informed smog shop. Fast, friendly, and affordable. Comfortable waiting area with A/C and amenities. Couldn't ask for a better experience getting a smog check.

This was the second time coming into this shop for a smog. The first time, I brought my 80 year old mom in because she had just moved here from Florida and AAA had recommended High Tech Auto. I was impressed the first time with the service, courtesy, and fair pricing. The second time, I brought my own car in for a Smog and I was even more impressed with the work ethics, honesty and overall integrity of Matt. He is confident, but humble, very competent and knows his stuff real well! This place is so unusual and I am so happy to have found it because in today's world, you just don't find too many places that truly care about people and doing what is right and fair. I am a customer for life and will be recommending to everyone I know! God bless you, Matt.... keep up the good work:)) read more
