Fantastic, hole-in-the-wall diner! We had the prime rib (Fri and Sat only). It was nicely seasoned and cooked to order. We also had the chicken fried steak which was the perfect comfort food. We opted for the fries as our side because we had heard they were 'so good' and they were. The staff was friendly and helpful and the food came in a timely manner. Prices were reasonable. Mmm... I don't think I can ever see High Plains Diner and not start craving a breakfast burrito. Even if it's 8 o'clock at night and I just had dinner! But lets be serious for a minute... I really have only had one other thing there before. While that burger was quite delicious and the portions were quite generous, my heart still yearns for the half size breakfast burrito with half bacon and half sausage. It's only about $7 and some change, comes smothered in green-chili and cheese. Half size you wonder? Are you skeptical...? The half size is huge! It fits diagonally in your standard styrofoam take out container. I've actually eaten at the restaurant twice; the servers are always super friendly and the service is quick! Typically my boyfriend and I pick up our order and the longest preparation time we were ever given is 10 minutes. Talk about speedy! So when you find yourself with a killer hangover on the front range, consider giving High Plains Diner a try. You won't be disappointed and your headache will thank you later! :) read more

We are here for a second time. As team truck drivers, my husband and I love finding little diners to stop at on our way through places. We have enjoyed the food that was fast and fresh both times. The service is a little slow but friendly and both times they have been very busy. Would recommend to any that are hungry and like "down home cooking" much better than truck stop food!!! read more

The food felt like reheated leftovers - to be fair, I did order chicken tenders and fries. My husband ordered meatloaf and mashed potatoes with clam chowder soup as an appetizer. Sorry to say our dining experience here was not great. I had the Clam Chowder and it really should be called potato soup - there were no clams that I could see - mainly potatoes. My wife had the grilled chicken and it was OK - the chicken was a bit dry. She also had a salad which consisted of pieces of iceberg lettuce, some pieces wilted. I absolutely prefer non-chain restaurants but this one did not deliver. I did not dine here for breakfast and that might be a different story. read more

So many menu options! We were just passing through but I would love to come again to try something new. Lunch was delicious, but the kicker was the pie- we loved it :) We were seated right away in the back, the TVs played HGTV and the news, but it was kind of weird there was no music playing in the background. Every time I order something to go, I always end up getting a waitress named Michelle that answers the phone. She always messes up my order. Never adds the correct sides that I ask for or the correct substitutions. Miranda on the other hand, she ALWAYS seems to do a wonderful PERFECT job! Service was good. Decor is old and out dated. Big menu. But mostly Mexican based recipes. If I wanted Mexican I'd have gone to that type of restaurant. Was looking for more home style food. Lettus was stale. From a bag. You can taste the bag. And some had brown edges. Ordered the hot beef open face. Served cold. Potatoes were cold gravy cold. Roast beef was chewy and grainy. I'm a sucker for anything with grease....especially after having a night full of alcohol! ha :) Carly P introduced me to the DELICIOUS breafast burrtio after hosting a housewarming party that ended with me downing a bottle of wine and consuming wayyyyy too many shots of rum. HOLY COW. The half burrito was massive. took up the entire to go box and was smothered in green chilie. mmmm!! They were stuffed with eggs, cheese, hashbrowns, bacon and sausage...which perfeclty hit the spot! 2. Prices are great for what you what! ;) 3. Service, well considering I got take out, I can't comment on the service, however Erik was back in a flash! :) 4. Just a traveler passing through. Came inside, stood at the front to be seated, just like the sign said. Not a problem at all however about 10 minutes pass and the waitresses just keep looking over at us. They weren't crazy busy, just waiting on the three tables but didn't acknowledge us. Waited a while longer and suggested maybe we should go somewhere else. That's when the waitress finally acknowledged us and with some attitude told us just wait she needed to bus some tables first. I understand waiting I completely do but it would have been nice for someone to just acknowledge us and let us know they'd be with us in a moment. They ignored us up until we decided to leave. Like come on guys I'm a waitress too I know it can be hard but I don't ignore parties waiting to be seated. So my final review is don't come if you're passing through they don't seem to care . Update 30 minutes down the road has a really nice diner called moonlight diner. Super sweet waiter. Chill atmosphere! read more

If you are flying by this diner on i70 you are missing some great food. We went for a morning drive and came upon this diner for breakfast. And it was good. The eggs seemed to be from a farm. You know the ones with the good hello yokes and the pork chops cooked with grill marks. So good. The chicken fried steak was huge and crispy with excellent gravy. And if you are looking for this place. It's in a small mall by the auto parts store. read more

Had the most incredible breakfast - one of the top five of my life - called the Buennitas. It's cheesy grit cakes topped with green chili Hollandaise sauce and crispy and savory pork carnitas. My favorite diner in town. It's also the only diner in town. It really packs them in on the weekends for breakfast and lunch. But the wait is never more than 20 minutes from my experience. My dad eats here almost every morning, except Mondays because they are closed. The staff is friendly and fast. They work really hard and do a good job. The diner itself is nothing special. All tables, no booths. There's a bunch of country western art on the walls. (When in Rome, I suppose.) The menu has a lot of options but everything on it, including their salads, will raise your cholesterol- biscuits and gravy, burgers, smothered burritos, fish and chips- you definitely won't be able to stick to your Whole30/Paleo diet here. That's probably one reason why I didn't give them more stars because sometimes I just want to order something that doesn't make me feel guilty afterwards. That said, it's really good food even if it's not the healthiest. Especially their bacon. It's is really good bacon. The price is really reasonable for the quantity of food you will get. I almost guarantee you will need a box. Especially if you order a cinnamon roll. THEY ARE HUGE! read more
