En Fuego Cantina

Decided to try En Fuego Cantina for Happy Hour with a friend. It happened to be on a Tuesday, which…read moreis Taco Tuesday (all-day happy hour). Happy Hour usually runs from 3-6pm Sun through Thursday with drink specials and all tacos for $6, so these hours are pretty busy. There is a high-top bar with plenty of seating, as well as tables with booths. Most of their cocktails are premade, so you cannot have the ingredients adjusted. If a drink is not on HH, it will run around $15+, which, to me, is a bit pricey for something as simple as a ranch water (what I ordered). Our server was very attentive and gave us some suggestions on his favorite tacos. Tacos come with a choice of a corn or flour tortilla. I had the quesabirria taco on a corn tortilla. The meat was good, as was the cilantro slaw. The beef tenderloin on the flour tortilla had great flavor. The raspberry habanero glaze on top brought a brightness to the taco with just the right amount of heat.

The margs were great - I got the blackberry margarita without cilantro. My guest got gold with a floater Grand Marnier on top. Was potent. We got the chips, queso and tomatillo app. The cheese was good and salsa spicy. Next we shared the fajita beef and shrimp. I wish I said medium but he didn't ask either. The meat was definitely well done and not super tender. The Vegis with it were good and poblano rice and elote side was good, small side cups so not like a huge amount to share but it worked for us. We got the sopapillas at the end and I didn't like taste of dough it had an after taste also didn't like the honey packets they were thick. Just throw some in a squeeze bottle and serve. They do offer caramel and/or chocolate with and the chocolate was good. Not a bad place for some tacos and drinks before a movie I'd say. I may venture back One day.

A lot of places popped up, but this Mexican restaurant really stood out -- great reviews and the food pictures looked amazing. It's about 13 minutes from the airport, which made it super convenient. From the outside, it looks small, but once you walk in, it's surprisingly spacious. We were seated immediately, and our server was absolutely phenomenal -- so friendly, attentive, and welcoming. For an appetizer, we ordered the queso fundido with chorizo (you can choose corn or flour tortillas). This is one of my favorite dishes to get at any Mexican restaurant if they offer it, and this one did not disappoint. The cheese was perfectly melty and stretchy, and the chorizo had great flavor that paired so well with it. Wrapping that cheesy, savory goodness in a warm tortilla? So good. For my main dish, I ordered the quesabirria -- corn tortillas filled with birria and cheese, fried crispy, and served with consommé for dipping. It was decent, but I will say it didn't have quite as much flavor as I'm used to with quesabirria. Still enjoyable, just could've used a bit more seasoning. The beans were actually delicious and full of flavor, but the rice was a little bland and could've used some salt. Overall, the service was amazing, the restaurant was clean, and even though it was busy, everything came out in a timely manner. The prices were also very reasonable -- definitely not expensive for the quality and portions. I would absolutely come back to try other dishes. With just a little more seasoning in some areas, it would easily be a five-star spot for me!

The salsa we received was a green and a red and they were full flavored delicious! I ordered two tacos a la carte: Apple Cilantro Steak and Braised Short Rib. The tacos arrived quickly, were delicious. Especially the Apple Cilantro Steak. Note that the tacos are street taco sized. This means smallish at around 4-5" inches each. Nice that they are double tortilla wrapped. Our waitress checked in with us a couple times to make sure we had everything we wanted. We will likely return.

When the weather is nice, the patio seating is a nice bonus and adds to the laid-back vibe. I didn't see any happy hour specials on either food or drinks, but the margaritas are reasonably priced, especially the house margarita. They seem to be best known for their taco plates, but I went with one of the bowls instead. While it tasted quite delicious, the portion size felt a bit light for the price; I had this same concern looking at all the online photos of the tacos, too. Service was friendly and straightforward: just walk in and seat yourself. The bar area has plenty of TVs, perfect for if you want to watch a game. It would be perfect if they had happy hour specials. I would maybe explore your options if you want good value, but it's a nice casual place that's worth a stop if you're craving what their menu has.
