We stopped here for breakfast on New Year's Day because we were meeting friends who were in town and this was a good halfway meeting spot. I'm so glad we stumbled upon this place because it's truly a gem. Casual cozy ambiance and delicious freshly cooked home style food in large portions. The food all was served piping hot and had great flavor. The True Grit bowl was amazing and I had them add sausage gravy which was creamy and peppery and so so good. Their Pecan Roll is to die for - I just wish they wouldn't served it with some kind of icing instead of a large pat of butter. I was sorely tempted to take home a slice of pie from the cabinet by the hostess station but I refrained. The staff treated our party, which included three young kids, like family and our waitress was very kind to the kids. We hope to be back soon! read more

Skip all fast food and gas station options and head straight to the High Plains Diner! I can't stop having the breakfast burrito and you won't either. It comes smothered in homemade green chili and cheese and is always delicious. Ham, sausage, bacon and chorizo inside? Yes please! Michelle was awesome as well as the homemade pecan pie. Service has always been excellent. The ambiance is as you would expect from a diner. The food is OK but not great. On a scale from one to 10 overall I would rate the food between a four and a seven. I think this place represents what people used to call "a greasy spoon." Unfortunately there aren't many dining options in the area. Local homemade diner fare at its best! We stopped for lunch on a Saturday and they were packed! It was quite loud, but fortunately we were seated in a hall near the back where the noise wasn't as loud. Our server was sweet and engaging throughout. We ordered the buffalo chicken salad, country fried steak and eggs (over-medium), stack of pancakes, and both country fried potatoes and hash browns. The boneless buffalo wings on the salad were unique - hand-cut and battered for a nice crunch. Some of the bites were a bit tough but I loved the batter. It reminded me almost of the crispness of a wonton. The salad was huge, which I very much appreciate. The pancakes were enormous! They barely fit on the plate. The were so fluffy and tender. Amazing. Country fried potatoes were very good, but the hash browns were even better! Buttery, tender, with the ideal crispness on the edges. Country-fried steak and eggs also good. We were waiting on our 5th wheel RV to be repaired nearby and they suggested this diner for lunch. It was fantastic food, huge quantity and excellent service! The place has a family feel, like home. I had a pork and cheese enchilada and I'm not kidding, it was one of the best enchiladas I've ever had. The pork was chopped bbq with just the right amount of end pieces to give it excellent flavor, but it was the green chili sauce that really made it. SO good. I'm sad we will probably never be through Bennett again, I'd like to try more off their menu. read more

We were looking for a mom and pop type place for breakfast and this place was perfect. The food was very decently priced, especially for the amount. I wasn't super hungry so I asked if I could get the senior sized chicken biscuit with gravy. They allowed it and I was amazed when they brought it out thinking it was a full size order...nope! Apparently the full size comes with an additional chicken biscuit! The waitress wasn't overly pleasant but definitely not rude and was very competent. Service was terrible. I had a regular breakfast. 2 eggs bacon grits toast. Eggs and toast was good. Bacon so old I could hardly eat it ,grits had lumps so big it was awful. My son ordered steak and eggs. And the steak was raw. He asked for medium rare. All in all it was unpleasant I had heard such good things about this place. This little cafe /diner in Bennett may not seem like too much at first glance. The service is always friendly and quick. It's our spot for breakfast then grocery shopping at the near by King Soopers. Because we already live on the edge of Denver we decided to venture east after we moved to our home in Aurora a year ago. We discovered the local hang out. And have regularly been patrons since then. I love the buenitas a eggs Benedict dish with carnitas and cheese grits a chili hollandaise sauce and eggs how you like them. My husband loves the chicken and waffles with a great chipotle syrup sweet and spicy or breakfast burrito as big as a plate. Our son loves the burrito smothered with country gravy. Nothing to write home about and I could tell this was a place where the locals frequent a lot because we got stares from almost every table walking in because they didn't know us. The service is usually spot on and the food comes out great. All 5 four of us cleaned up our plates. Very good food. Great waitress too. She was really attentive even tho the restaurant was packed. Looked like all the wait staff was really hustling. It can be a little hard to notice off of the main road, but stop in here is you want a good breakfast to fill you up. read more

Jackson was an excellent server and made the recommendation for the queso and chips which were excellent. We had the Houston Cowboy and the Bacon Onion and cheese burgers. Both were excellent. Kids had pizzas and they were large and tasty. Will definitely return. read more

Amazing food. Started with the shrimp appetizer, which came with four different sauces. Each great, but loved the traditional cocktail as the horseradish bite was perfect. I had the small filet, mushrooms, spinach and a drink. Blue cheese sauce was added as well. Partner got the pork chip. Filet was perfectly done. Veggies great. Stopped by on our back north. Fantastic local restaurant. I had a sirloin and the wifey had a prime rib. Two sodas, one margarita, two steaks, two potatoes, and two salads for 40 bucks. Fast and friendly service. Our waitress was exceptional. Wore a t-shirt that said "American Honey". I agree. Fresh pies in the cooler when you walk in. Looked good but was full after dinner. Rodeo on the TV instead of college football. That works for the place and lends to the ambiance. Speaking of ambiance, cool art work on the walls. The tacos rancheros come with either chicken or steak fajitas with pico, guacamole, sour cream, rice and beans. Oh! Don't sleep on the tortilla soup! I have to say it one of my favorite items on the menu. Especially with "soup season" being upon us, i find myself craving this spicy tortilla soup. The service is always friendly and the chips and salsa are delicious! I think the only drawback is the prices. For 2 fountain drinks and 2 entrées, my husband and I end up easily spending $45 before tip. That's a bit pricey for a lunch date. Cost aside, Los Charros definitely satisfies my Mexican cuisine cravings and keeps us close to home. Definitely a win-win in my book!
