High Light Nails in Hawthorne reopened today (July 1). The price for a pedi went from $17 to $23. They have movable plastic partitions between every station and between their staff and customer. I had to sign a waiver and use the sanitizer before entering their work space. I've never felt safer with their cleanliness. Since I was the last of five ladies, I saw what they went through before allowing another customer into the shop. Hannah did my pedi. My first time with her and she did an excellent job! So glad the shop has reopened and that it is taking such care of their customers. read more

I've been coming here for over 6 years! I worked and lived just down the street so it was convenient but I quickly became loyal as Nina does SUCH GOOD DETAILED WORK THAT LASTS - no other place I've tried compares to her acrylic fill and gel polishing! I now drive from Long Beach for my standing appointment every other week! Love the foot massages and nail design pedicures from Donna too!!!! the owner understandably tries to get as much business in as possible and sometimes overlapping appointments and forced wait and I'm sure puts stress on her people- I try not go when I'm on a tight schedule so it's no big deal for me. And recently I cracked my toe nail and super glued it so it wouldn't crack more...(until I could get into a nail salon) She charges me an extra 5$ just to fix it... lol ur doing my toes anyways just fix it. It is a simple, small but also clean salon. Their spa chairs are in good condition - unlike other inexpensive nail salons in the area. The women are all foreign, but they were very meticulous and at least 2 of the 4 I met could completely communicate in English. A younger lady did my manicure and did a decent job as well. I did have to tell her to go over my nails so that she can get a the edges since she hadn't the first time around. So beauty day continues this week. My neglected little fingers were screaming for some love.. Slight hiccup.. I'm all the way across country in sunny California (with no car). So with the help of previous yelp reviews, I decided to take the short walk from my hotel to the salon. Lily did my gel manicure (and polish change ) and she was great. She took great care and attention as she worked on me. They were extremely busy today and there were a couple of customers who had to be turned away. I'm not used to that as it seems that many salons try to rush in as many customers as possible sacrificing quality. As I mentioned, I didn't get a pedicure but just a polish change since I just had a pedi last week. Nevertheless, she even took her time doing the change. This is my favorite nail salon. They recognize me when I walk in and greet me. The prices for this place isn't that expensive either. They also offer a stamp card for $20 or more you get a stamp, earn up to 11 stamps to get a free pedi. I usually go for special occasions or so. Recently, I got my toes done and the painted chipped off within less then a week. I called about 5 days later and explained it to the ladies. They fixed it and repainted every toe nail and did not charge me. They have really good customer service. A tip: when you want to go. First off - you can't beat the price for a mani-pedi Mon-Wed at $20.00. However you totally get what you pay for. The place is very run down, dirty and the service is horrible. I waited for over 40 minutes then had three ladies work on my hands and feet which then I had to tip each one of course and that kinda took away the $$ savings of the special. I also didn't see them cleaning any of the instruments before or after the mani/pedi. Not to mention the lotions and stuff they use is super cheap stuff. If you are looking for a deal, don't mind a little dirt and are totally okay with crappy service where the women talk about you in another language than this is your place. I went to this place specifically because of the yelp reviews and honestly, I was disappointed. The ladies here were nice but not very talkative at all (or even super approachable - they were too quiet) I got a pedicure from here and was excited because it was only $15. The place is small and while it isn't filthy, it definitely isn't clean. There were a couple of ants on the floor that I saw while sitting in the massage chair. Speaking of the massage chair, that thing was old and barely worked - like zero pressure. The water that I put my feet in was about room temperature. The massage included very little pressure. It kinda hurt when she was taking the cuticles out. The paint job turned out gorgeous though. It really makes me sad that I have to write such a negative review because (most of the) girls that work here are so nice. My friend who visited from San Francisco never had a mani-pedi before so I wanted to find a place that offered a reasonable price and also had good reviews. Trusting yelp, I found Highlight Nails' good reviews and its $20 mani-pedi deal hard to resist. I guess you get what you pay for. The place is small and dingy, and it's dirty. I know other people have written that the place is clean and all that stuff, but when I sat down, there were ANTS crawling by my purse (which was on the floor because there was nowhere to put my belongings down on.) after waiting for about 20 minutes (which was alright because I didn't make an appointment), the owner sat my friend and me down. They started working on my friend first (after an additional 15 minutes of sitting down and waiting some more in the pedi chairs) but I continued to wait. Mani pedis are supposed to take about an hour, so I thought time would not be a factor, but it took TWO AND A HALF HOURS to get my nails done (12:00-2:30) which made me almost late for work at 3:00. (really?) After I was FINALLY helped, the woman who was working on my pedicure was literally YANKING out the cuticles in my toes. It HURT. When I yelped a couple of times in pain, she gave me a dirty look and continued on. Talk about rude. She kept mumbling under her breath the whole time and was extremely cranky. I don't know...maybe I'm picky, but I come to a nail salon to relax, not get stressed out because my toes are being yanked at and a cranky lady is mumbling under her breath. The pain from yanking out my cuticles? Same thing happened when I was getting my manicure done. It was so bad that my finger started bleeding and the woman still put alcohol on the wound...smart. I don't have any problems with my cuticles; I have gotten my nails done at other places and the process is NEVER painful. I opted for red toe nails and French tip hands, while my friend opted for French tip on both. I was pleased with the way my toenails came out, but my French tips...sucked. Sorry, there's no sugar coating it. I don't think it's the salon, I think it's the woman who did my nails. I really wish I knew her name, but I don't. The white tips were really, really short, and looked like someone took a white out pen and drew them on. It's only been two days and two of my fingernails have already chipped off so my nails look horrendous and uncared for. The reason I write that the problem was the woman, not the salon, is because my friend's nails came out really well done. She was helped by a pleasant lady and the owner (and was pampered pretty well overall.) that's pretty much the only reason I gave them 2 stars instead of one. if you really need to come here, look for the owner, but otherwise, stay away. read more

Jolie Nail Spa (PCH & Narbonne in Lomita) first time I thought I liked it so a year later I went and management changed and so did the price. Galaxy Nail Spa (Torrance blvd & Hawthorne) which would have been my regular, but they kept cutting my skin and it would bleed and their price went up. High Light Nails is the only spa I've been to that actually charges you $20 both mani/pedi AS ADVERTISED (Mon-Wed only) but only $20!! Full spa treatment, scrub & massage, and the staff speak english! My coworker had been here once and loved it and recommended and my trip was a success! I often go to the laundry mat that is also in this strip mall. Its a very old building, outdated and the nail shop is not filthy- but certainly not clean. I went one other time before today for a quick eyebrow wax. That was ok- not great but ok. It is very convienant location. So- today while doing laundry I stopped in to take advantage of the mani-pedi special they offer Mon-Wed for $20. When I arrived there were 3 customers- and 3 employees. I picked my color, and my wait time was 5 minute or so which was one good thing. I sat down- the massage chair didn't work- the water was cold- so I was not impressed immediately. The girl who started on my pedi did not talk much to me- which I personally am ok with. I know that's a big deal to some customers. She did a good job- took her time on my feet and didn't hurt me. My reason for my low score and refusal to ever go back is the owners lack of customer service. When I came in- I replied upon the owner asking that I wanted a mani- pedi. While the girl was working on my feet another employee came and started to prepare my manicure. I asked her if I could get my mani after my pedicure so that I could go next door to switch my laundry to dryer. I simply didn't want to mess up my painted nails. She asked the owner in their language- but never answered me either way. So I assumed it was fine- the other customers had all left and I was the only one left. If they were busy I wouldn't of suggested leaving for 5-10 minutes to finish my laundry. However they were not busy at all. They were watching soaps. When finishing my toes she slipped my shoes on. I got my credit card out to pay before leaving so they wouldn't think I would skip out on them. I said to her- "let me pay for the mani-pedi now, and I will be right back to finish. She said no- your not allowed to do that. I looked at her puzzled and went to the register. The owner was there and had overheard the employee tell me that they would not do that. I asked the owner- "Can I just run to laundry mat to switch and come right back." She said no we can't allow you to do that. I responded with I can pay you now- so you won't have to worry. She still said no. I said to her if I knew that was the policy I would of not got my pedi. She only responded by telling me the cost of my pedicure is $18. I was floored- I said $20 for both- and your going to charge me $18 for half the services. I said to her very politely that I really was hoping to get my eyebrows waxed- as well as trying the eyelash extensions they were advertising. But due to very poor customer service I will not EVER return. It was only then after realizing she lost out on at least another $40, that she said since I didn't know she would let me come back. I said no- that's ok- I would of appreciated being told when I asked the first time. I will pay the $18 and not return. She then ran my card and tossed it back to me in a rude manner. I signed the receipt and left. Because of the service- and the unclean facility along with not sanitizing their intruments- I will not return. Was bummed about it after my frustration settled down. It is a convienant place. I totally would of not even asKed about returning if they were busy. I was litterally the only customer. I don't. reccomend this salon to anyone. Price is great.. unfortunately Lina was horrible & her customer service was horrendous. After charging $5 for calus remover & only scrubbing for 10 sec on each food (all other nail shops I go take time getting calus off) then when I show her I still have dry skin on my feet she gets an attitude & scrubs my feet like SHES PISSED she didn't do her job correctly. I'm sorry if I'm the kind of person who expects to get what I pay for I mean it is my hard earned money & if I get charged extra money for CALUS REMOVER then I expect them to remove the calus. I cut this nail shop visit short instead of getting a full set & I will go elsewhere where to spend my $60 I shell out on acrylics cause if they treat u this badly during a pedicure I refuse to spend top dollar on a fullset with this kind of experience. I have been coming to this establishment for years and I think that this is the best group of women they have ever had. They are all friendly and all of them do a great job! The only thing that was weird was the last time I went there, I had a pedicure and an eyebrow wax. It came to 21 dollars. All I had were two twenties (40 dollars). I told her to just give me ten dollars back, which meant she would have 9 dollars for her self. When she handed me the ten dollars, I gave her an extra one dollar bringing the tip to 10 dollars. I told her thank you so much, you did a good job. She looked at the dollar puzzled then stormed away. I stood there for a minute and thought, I just gave her a ten dollar tip and she said nothing? Maybe she thought I gave her a dollar? Now I don't want to go here anymore because she probably told all her co workers I gave her a dollar!!!
