What is the weather like in September?

September can have some of the best weather of the year. Not as hot as in July but still great weather for hiking and hanging out for a BBQ. Evenings at high altitude will be a bit chilly; bring a jacket and sweater-things you can layer. The fall… Read more

The lodge itself is unbelievable - it is luxurious yet homey at the same time, and makes for a wonderful mountain getaway for you and your guests. Vicky, the lodge manager, was so helpful with everything from accommodating for off-hours check-ins, any and all room needs, and of course, cooking delicious handmade breakfast every morning! Kathy, the event coordinator, was just awesome to work with. She truly made the wedding planning process easier and less stressful. She was communicative, detail oriented, and always willing to hop on a call or set up a meeting for wedding planning details. Her expertise in this field really came to light throughout our wedding planning process, and it was very much appreciated. The Twin Owls Steakhouse staff was professional and helpful, and the food is amazing! We got so many compliments on our wedding food Sandra, the owner, made my husband and I feel so comforted from the get go. It's clear that she cares deeply about her guests' experiences, and will do everything she can to make your stay, your event, or whatever it is exactly what you had imagined! Thank you, Taharaa Mountain Lodge, for making our dream wedding come true!

The property has been lovingly restored by the new owners who are delightful. The staff is kind and helpful. This has the feel of the historic lodges of yesteryear while bringing some of the best food in Estes to its patrons. We enjoyed drinks on the patio sitting in a porch swing as twilight crept in. We ordered the charcuterie board and it didn't disappoint! The staff was so friendly and the owner recommended a scotch that my husband ended up loving! When we were seated for dinner it was as picturesque as one could have hoped: next to the antique glass wall of windows with a view as the sun set across the valley of Estes. Order every single appetizer- we did and you won't be sorry. Special shout out to the Roasted Beets!! We also shared the Honey Bourbon Glazed Short Rib with cheddar grits, which was fork tender and well paired. In lieu of dessert (although I hear tell of the blueberry cobbler and kind of with I had ordered it despite being literally stuffed) we went back to the porch for a pour of another owner-recommended spirit and chatted and laughed with other guests and staff until it was properly past our bedtimes. What a gem this place is! We will be coming back as soon as we can. Do yourself a favor and stop in for the views, the food, the drinks, and the service. Well done, Seven Keys!

There was a specific spot set up for weddings with the backdrop of the river and the beautiful aspen trees that were changing colors. It was obvious that this wedding venue knows what they are doing. The cake was exquisite and reflected the personality of the bride. All preparations were in tiptop shape at the reception. It was well organized and went smoothly.

My husband and I joked that even if our wedding was a dud, the venue alone would wow people. The walk through video on their website is just a glimpse into the magic and joy that this spot holds!!! From the ceremony site options, to the bridal suite, to the dining area and the dance floor, we enjoyed all of the spaces this place has to offer. Our 108 guests loved the food, the drinks, and the views so much, they couldn't stop commenting all night on how beautiful and awesome this venue was. And our photos turned out incredible with the mountains, the river, the trees, and the outdoor lights. Dawn is responsive and helpful and she knows what she's doing! My one area of constructive criticism would be recommending that the venue provide a clearer timeline to the couples getting married. I typed my own up based on our meetings but the venue stated they'd send it a few times and never got around to it. Otherwise, I can't say enough WONDERFUL things about this spot. Hospitality is their jam. The rentable items like the arch and photo booth, the in-house decorations, and the food options are positively stunning. The staff is phenomenal, the on-site honeymoon suite was so clean and comfortable, and there was lots of space for kids to run around. An amazing AMAZING spot to make memories and start your married life with your partner off right!

CC was one of the few who still had vacancy. Now we know why. While I don't know what type of low-grade accommodations the high reviewers are accustomed to, as a very frequent traveler, I do know that this place does not deserve anything higher than 3 stars. Pros: very simple, homey old-timey cottages that hearken back to a 1940's grandma's house. Central location right outside one of RMNP's entrances. Nice touches with working fireplaces, 1 free bundle of firewood, variety of games and dvds to choose from, and fairly ample kitchenette offerings including a mini-stove, full sink and place settings. Restaurant choices across the street. Cons: this place is TIRED. Everything is run-down and dingey from the raggedy bedspreads to the broken kitchenette drawers, to the shower handle that fell off when we went to turn it on. Outside lawn chairs were moldy and crusty - uninviting. Curtains were dusty with gnats stuck to them. The children's mini-playground area - which could've otherwise been such a nice touch - was littered with dog poo and other debris from apparently months of neglect. If the rental charge were more appropriate for this low-level of accommodation, like $75-$100, I might give more stars. But $200? Uh no.

The first time was 20 years ago and we loved it back then which is why we decided to go back. In the past I'd have given it 4 or even 5 stars. However.... Pros are the great location close to so many amenities such as restaurants and stores, very quaint appearance, dogs allowed, wood burning fireplace, parking right outside your unit's door, easy self check-in, and how quiet it is even though it's off a fairly busy street. This place has tons of potential. Cons are a general lack of maintenance including a broken bar in the sleeper sofa that didn't support any weight and collapsed, unusable very disgusting cooking pans, dirty oven, and a general lack of cleanliness. For example under the chair cushions were years of dust and a variety of objects like socks, loose change, hair ties, etc. Tons of dirt under the sofa and bed, the fireplace glass screen was so dirty you couldn't see the fire so we cleaned it ourselves, all the dishes were filthy, lots of loose hair in the bathroom, etc. You get the idea. Housekeeping leaves a lot to be desired. We love rustic but these cottages cross the line into decrepit compared to other places we've stayed. They are in need of some refurbishment and replacement of furniture and household items.
