Hidden gem. Friendly staff. Clean property. Amazing indoor pool and hot tub. Great little free breakfast. Will definitely stay here again!

Located off of Elkhorn in Estes Park, CO. We chose it for location in proximity to Rocky Mountain National Park, cost relative to similar hotels in Estes Park, and also distance to the shops in downtown Estes Park. Very unassuming but it looks family owned with about 30ish total rooms. Our room was small but looked well kept and smelled decent compared to other hotels that we've stayed at in Colorado. Funny enough, their bathroom towels were folded in swans, tissues into roses, etc; very old time flair that is appreciated. Parking is available in their adjacent parking lot and will save you parking fees downtown/right down the street. A couple of downsides are always there. Firstly, the road noise is really loud from the street! The cars pass by quite quickly on Elkhorn and you 100% notice every time one does so from the inside of your room. The walls don't do the best job at isolating noise from your neighbors/ people walking up and down the stairs as well so that's a downside and a bummer during bedtime. Overall, it's a value choice for staying in Estes Park, where a room/lodge can be easily over $300/night once taxes and fees are figured in. However you pay for what you get and the noise is a bit more than what you are used to, the room is pretty small and cramped, and the room is definitely a bit on the older side.

River view from Room 206

Perfect spot in Estes Park! Staff was fabulous! I recently stayed at Murphy's River Lodge for a wedding. We were in room 206, at the top of the stairs right next to the continental breakfast room. I was worried it would be loud but it was so very quiet. No issues at all. The view of the river was fabulous. Perfect walking distance to downtown and a quick drive to the park. The room had everything we needed to enjoy our stay. We will definitely be back! My only "issue" was that the water pressure in the shower was low. All in all, it was a great stay!

Great affordable place to stay in Estes Park. We could walk downtown for shopping and dining in less than 10 minutes, the rooms were really clean, the beds comfortable, and they weren't chintzy with the towels. Overall great place. Would definitely stay again.

Beautiful location on the river and the sounds of the river almost make this worth the stay! However, the room is out dated, the furniture old and uncomfortable, the heater was broken (which they fixed), the in-room safe was broken (which they fixed), we were scheduled to have the room cleaned and even confirmed that morning we wanted the room cleaned and new towels and it didn't happen! No way to watch tv from bed so the only thing to sit on was this loveseat. Continental breakfast was good, several items to choose from and most of the staff was was very nice. When we asked to have something fixed it did get done but had several things in a 3 day stay that made it frustrating! Was offered a 10% refund ($71 dollars) after we left. We spent over $700 dollars on 3 days and they should spend some of that money on updating/upgrading the rooms!

We haven't checked out yet and we are already planning to come back. The room is comfortable- 4 of us on this trip. The HUGE private balcony overlooking the river has been a consistent hangout when at the hotel. Melody in the main office is so friendly and informative! They have games and movies to rent, great selection for Covid friendly breakfast, heated pool and we have seen the same elk every day so the kids have named him Elroy the Elk- he is magnificent! We are walking distance to the cozy downtown area with tons of unique shops, restaurants and treats!

Me and my husband loved staying here and wish we could do it more often! They were so accommodating and I love the hot cocoa and movie stuff in the front office :)

Very spacious room with 2 king beds, a futon and dining area.

The lady at the front office was friendly and got us checked in quickly. In the front office they have fresh popcorn, DVD's to bring to your room as well as coffee. Location was great and within walking distance to the main strip shopping. We were so happy that it snowed the day we came in. It made for nice evening walk and beautiful pictures. Our room (#217) had large windows with a good view of the front. And was VERY spacious. We had 2 king size beds, a futon sofa as well as a dining table. Everything was clean and neat. There was a complimentary to-go breakfast upstairs above the pool. They offered fresh fruit, granola bars, danishes, juice, oatmeal, cereal, coffee and milk. The lady serving was very nice and kept everything organized and moving smoothly. We didn't go to the pool but when we were getting breakfast I could see them cleaning the pool area and they were doing a thorough job. We will definitely stay at Murphy's River Lodge again.

This was an amazing little hideaway nestled in the mountain side! The check in experience was like something out of a cool old movie. The gentleman at the counter was friendly and attentive. They had board games, and movies, and popcorn, and more right there for free! We had a blast looking though the movies and games like old date night at Blockbuster! The room and grounds were extremely clean. We had a little room right off of the river and it was simply beautiful. It snowed a little and it made it totally magical! We also took advantage of the hot tub after our 12 hours in the car. Heaven. Simply heaven. Friendliest staff in town. Amazing views. Some rooms have fireplace. Fridge and microwave too!

This place was really cute! We stayed in a "family room" and had a California King, bunk beds and a pull out couch in one big room - it was fun! The best part was that we could see elk right from our windows across the street. We were only there for one night so we didn't get to check out the pool or the other amenities, but they did have board games and DVDs in the lobby to borrow. There was hot and cold continental breakfast. I would stay here again if I visited Estes Park.

From start to finish, my two girlfriends and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. Every single interaction I had with the staff was exceptional. It was refreshing to encounter such genuinely friendly people! They were also nice about accommodating our requests for a slightly earlier check in and a slightly later check out. Thank you! This lodge is a little pricier than some of the other hotels around here but you get what you pay for. We requested a room with a view of the river on Expedia and they honored that request. I loooooved the view from our balcony! My favorite part of our stay was just sitting out there enjoying the view and hearing the rush of the river while munching on some grub. I can highly recommend room 202. Bed was comfy. Sleeper sofa was fine although we could not figure out for the life of us how to put it back. It was a easy walk to the main street with all the shops and restaurants. We didn't get to enjoy the DVD collection or games available to borrow in the main office but I thought that was a nice touch. Nothing to complain about with breakfast. Enjoyed the hard boiled eggs they had available. At the end of our stay, what a pleasant surprise to be gifted with a photo of us on the chair with a picture frame! It was the cherry on top for our stay. Would definitely consider staying here again my next trip out to Rocky Mountain National Park.

Ask the Community - Murphy's River Lodge

Do all rooms come with a full kitchen and fireplace? I was considering upper river condos on groupon.

All of our rooms have a mini frige, coffee pot and microwave. Only our Lower River Condos have a fully stocked kitchen with an oven/stove top and full size refrigerator.

Everywhere you look there is charm. We stayed in the "Cowboy Attic Suite". My mom immediately had an "experience". I heard a grandfather clock chime throughout our stay. I never saw one and forgot to ask where it was located. I love old clocks. My aunt had her own experience that woke her from her sleep. Everyone we encountered was nice and we appreciated the cander as we asked for their stories/experiences there. The bad....for what we paid, it was not worth it. The floor feels dirty. It is as though they have not thought to clean the carpets in quite some time. Under the bed is a nice layer of dust. The whole hotel could use a moist cloth and a good wipe down. The dust in the display cases throughout the hotel is obvious and off putting. We met Hannibal. Wish we would have booked the seance, but alas, we ran out of time. He was a hoot to talk to.

As everyone else has mentioned, the construction is a huge turn off! And absolutely no mention of it when you're booking your room. In addition, when I booked my room, I did not realize that I was booking it in the Aspire building. I thought that the Stanley hotel was one big hotel. I did not realize that there were different newer buildings. In the end, though, I am very happy that we are in the other building as what is being done at the original hotel is really offputting. The staff, however, were very nice and accommodating. Besides all of the construction, they have tours going on an hourly basis that are open to anyone who passes by, for a cost of $25+, of course and no discount for hotel guests. Those tourists who have not spent several hundred per night are all over the main lobby, dirtying up the carpet, wandering around the property with screaming kids, going up and down the stairwells, and elevator if it's running, just taking up space that should be reserved for guests!! Especially guests who are paying dearly for what they thought would be an old, elegant hotel experience. It is definitely not an elegant hotel anymore. It tries, a little, but is obviously too interested in making money off of tours rather than providing an exceptional experience for guests. I had envisioned myself sitting in that grand lobby reading a book with some tea. Impossible and wouldn't be pleasant if it was possible. Our room in the Aspire was nice, and the lobby, spa and gym facilities and the outdoor pool are very attractive and peaceful. But, again, some things just don't make sense. For instance, the lovely fireplace they have in the lobby is shut down at 8 PM when the desk agent goes home. I have been looking forward all day, to just sitting by that fireplace with a nice drink and reading my book. Seems like a normal expectation for a higher end hotel in the Colorado mountains. The pool area is nice, as is the steam room and gym. There are plenty of towels, tea and coffee and nice amenities. They need little tables out by the lounge chairs on the pool deck for people to set their drinks and things on instead of the ground. The beds, linens and pillows were great. There is no mini fridge in the room, no additional amenities in bathroom like Q tips, makeup remover wipes, etc... normal amenities offered in hotels of this price range and expected caliber. There is no full length mirror in the bedroom or in the bathroom and the mirror in the bathroom is so dimly lit it is impossible for a woman to see to put makeup on and no other mirror in the bedroom. They don't make up your room or refresh towels unless you specifically request it. I understand not changing out towels for ecological reasons, but when you are paying these kind of prices for a hotel room, someone should come in and make up your bed every day and tidy up and take the trash out. We're just one night in to our stay so we shall see how the rest goes. It has been pretty disappointing though.

It's a beautiful setting, but several issues impacted my experience. First, I felt the advertising was a bit misleading. I saw a pool listed on Orbitz, but I discovered there isn't a pool anywhere on the property. Instead, there are two above-ground hot tubs. I went to the one on the second level, but I found climbing the narrow metal stairs with wet feet to be a bit dangerous. I also noticed that the rooms are slightly dated and showing their age. In my room, the curtain rod was actually falling out of the wall, which told me they need to keep up with better maintenance. You should also know there is no lobby or front desk here; I just received a code via text message and entered it to get into my room. While efficient, it felt a bit impersonal. My biggest complaint, however, was the construction noise. I didn't realize they are currently expanding the inn and building two new buildings on the same lot. Unfortunately, my room was right next to the construction site, and I had to deal with loud noise all morning. I think this place has a lot of potential once the upgrades are done, but between the maintenance issues and the noise, I didn't find it to be the relaxing getaway I was hoping for.

When I say this lady went above and beyond and didn't have to, she did! When we arrived, first off there is only 12 rooms, and each room has an actual key!! This place is literally nestled on a side of a mountain w other little resort around. The check in process was so cute. Katie checked us in gave us some yummy cookies and I even bought a cute 4seasons inn sticker to put on my car. The room we booked was a private suite w a private spa grill and seating area. There is seating area by the grill and by the spa. And it's also on the 2nd floor just an fyi if you're wheel chair bound or whatever limitations you may have. So we go into our room and she literally decorated the whole room for us for our anniversary and had a bottle of wine w two wine glasses and fire wood already in our room for us to start a fire. The room was VERY spacious. Has a kitchen that worked a full coffee maker. A good size fridge and the freezer worked amazing. The toiletries that come w the room smell just fantasists. The best morning I woke up to wild turkeys on the ground just gobbling away and elk and deer. There is a community grills and a spa and a few other amenities. The thing I love about this place is it's literally less than 5 mins from the National park and far enough away to be secluded but 8 mins from EVERYTHING in town. And in Estes park there is so much cramed in that town! I LOVED everything. Not a thing was bad about my whole stay.
