I'm confused why there are so many glowing 5 star reviews. Murphy's is fine. It's dated and needs a lot of updates. The bed itself is comfy but the room is just cheap. The bathroom is tiny. It doesn't have any hooks for the towels or hand towels... The balconies overlooking the river are nice (but there are many, many places to stay along the creek that are updated and clean looking). The pool is a nice touch but it's old and looks like someone DIY-ed years ago. The vending machine didn't work with any of my bills when my very pregnant body needed a bottle of water. I popped in to check out the continental breakfast and walked out with only a tea. Just a bunch of cheap, sugary products (donettes, nutrigrain bars, hostess danishes). And I thought we were getting a great rate so it was worth staying at this older place but the very nice 3 star hotel yards away is the same price!! Like it's *fine*. Located off of Elkhorn in Estes Park, CO. We chose it for location in proximity to Rocky Mountain National Park, cost relative to similar hotels in Estes Park, and also distance to the shops in downtown Estes Park. Very unassuming but it looks family owned with about 30ish total rooms. Our room was small but looked well kept and smelled decent compared to other hotels that we've stayed at in Colorado. Funny enough, their bathroom towels were folded in swans, tissues into roses, etc; very old time flair that is appreciated. Parking is available in their adjacent parking lot and will save you parking fees downtown/right down the street. A couple of downsides are always there. Firstly, the road noise is really loud from the street! The cars pass by quite quickly on Elkhorn and you 100% notice every time one does so from the inside of your room. The walls don't do the best job at isolating noise from your neighbors/ people walking up and down the stairs as well so that's a downside and a bummer during bedtime. Overall, it's a value choice for staying in Estes Park, where a room/lodge can be easily over $300/night once taxes and fees are figured in. However you pay for what you get and the noise is a bit more than what you are used to, the room is pretty small and cramped, and the room is definitely a bit on the older side. read more

I've been doing staycations in Estes Park for twelve years, and Murphy's River Lodge is the Best in Estes yet! The Queen and pullout rooms are spacious, especially with the deck over the river. What a treat to hear the river while enjoying the sun in the Rocky Mountains and in the comfort of your living space. They have thought of everything! Pet friendly with a reasonable pet fee, two pet areas, and "oops" supplies in the room. The complementary personal items bring a home-spun touch as if staying with friends. "Oh, you forgot...I got you!" AND it's complementary. I totally forgot to take pics...my bad! Oh! Enjoy the indoor hot tub and pool as well! Both are well taken care of. read more

We commonly come to Estes but usually stay on the Moraine Ave side due to the views. We decided to switch it up this time and am so glad we did. The property is well taken care of, the employees go above and beyond, and when they say 'River Front', they aren't lying. Prices were comparable, if not on the lower side to other similar properties. It comes with a pool/hot tub, outdoor activities and breakfast (mostly pastries). They are centrally located--5 min walk to downtown and restaurants--and Elk roam like they are at home. Would definitely come back. read more

Perfect spot in Estes Park! Staff was fabulous! I recently stayed at Murphy's River Lodge for a wedding. We were in room 206, at the top of the stairs right next to the continental breakfast room. I was worried it would be loud but it was so very quiet. No issues at all. The view of the river was fabulous. Perfect walking distance to downtown and a quick drive to the park. The room had everything we needed to enjoy our stay. We will definitely be back! My only "issue" was that the water pressure in the shower was low. All in all, it was a great stay! read more

Beautiful location on the river and the sounds of the river almost make this worth the stay! However, the room is out dated, the furniture old and uncomfortable, the heater was broken (which they fixed), the in-room safe was broken (which they fixed), we were scheduled to have the room cleaned and even confirmed that morning we wanted the room cleaned and new towels and it didn't happen! No way to watch tv from bed so the only thing to sit on was this loveseat. Continental breakfast was good, several items to choose from and most of the staff was was very nice. When we asked to have something fixed it did get done but had several things in a 3 day stay that made it frustrating! Was offered a 10% refund ($71 dollars) after we left. We spent over $700 dollars on 3 days and they should spend some of that money on updating/upgrading the rooms! read more

We haven't checked out yet and we are already planning to come back. The room is comfortable- 4 of us on this trip. The HUGE private balcony overlooking the river has been a consistent hangout when at the hotel. Melody in the main office is so friendly and informative! They have games and movies to rent, great selection for Covid friendly breakfast, heated pool and we have seen the same elk every day so the kids have named him Elroy the Elk- he is magnificent! The lady at the front office was friendly and got us checked in quickly. In the front office they have fresh popcorn, DVD's to bring to your room as well as coffee. Location was great and within walking distance to the main strip shopping. We were so happy that it snowed the day we came in. It made for nice evening walk and beautiful pictures. Our room (#217) had large windows with a good view of the front. And was VERY spacious. We had 2 king size beds, a futon sofa as well as a dining table. Everything was clean and neat. There was a complimentary to-go breakfast upstairs above the pool. They offered fresh fruit, granola bars, danishes, juice, oatmeal, cereal, coffee and milk. The lady serving was very nice and kept everything organized and moving smoothly. We didn't go to the pool but when we were getting breakfast I could see them cleaning the pool area and they were doing a thorough job. We will definitely stay at Murphy's River Lodge again. read more

I stayed in the upper river king condo. Booking a room with the balcony is a must. It's an excellent hangout spot and offers great views. The room has an older feel, but was very clean and massive. We were given a can of fuel for the fireplace. Breakfast consisted of several juice options, muffins, hard boiled eggs, yogurt, and several snack bars. Additionally, the lodge is close to downtown and within walking distance of the free town trolley. We did have an issue on our first night, but upon calling the front desk, they immediately resolved it within 5 minutes. I was impressed with how much they check in to see if everything is going well with the stay. Another issue has more to do with the guests that are staying around you. The walls are quite thin. There were stairs connecting our upstairs room to the bottom room. While there were doors separating the rooms, we could hear our bottom guests (particularly children) very clearly. You will also hear anyone outside the room clearly as well. Overall, I would stay here again. It is a very short distance from town and RMNP. Additionally, the room was clean and staff friendly/helpful. read more

This was an amazing little hideaway nestled in the mountain side! The check in experience was like something out of a cool old movie. The gentleman at the counter was friendly and attentive. They had board games, and movies, and popcorn, and more right there for free! We had a blast looking though the movies and games like old date night at Blockbuster! The room and grounds were extremely clean. We had a little room right off of the river and it was simply beautiful. It snowed a little and it made it totally magical! My husband and I stayed here over the weekend. There was a lot of construction directly outside, other then dust it wasn't too noisy or anything. The receptionists were friendly and the lodge was quiet and nice. We enjoyed the muffins and coffee at breakfast and the fire pit at night. The one upsetting thing was that maintenance worked on the fence posts along the river and applied a ton of stain and they didn't put up any "wet paint" so my husbands brand new SIMMS fishing shirt and nice khaki pants were ruined before our anniversary dinner. read more

This place was really cute! We stayed in a "family room" and had a California King, bunk beds and a pull out couch in one big room - it was fun! The best part was that we could see elk right from our windows across the street. We were only there for one night so we didn't get to check out the pool or the other amenities, but they did have board games and DVDs in the lobby to borrow. There was hot and cold continental breakfast. I would stay here again if I visited Estes Park. read more

From start to finish, my two girlfriends and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. Every single interaction I had with the staff was exceptional. It was refreshing to encounter such genuinely friendly people! They were also nice about accommodating our requests for a slightly earlier check in and a slightly later check out. Thank you! This lodge is a little pricier than some of the other hotels around here but you get what you pay for. We requested a room with a view of the river on Expedia and they honored that request. I loooooved the view from our balcony! My favorite part of our stay was just sitting out there enjoying the view and hearing the rush of the river while munching on some grub. I can highly recommend room 202. Bed was comfy. Sleeper sofa was fine although we could not figure out for the life of us how to put it back. It was a easy walk to the main street with all the shops and restaurants. We didn't get to enjoy the DVD collection or games available to borrow in the main office but I thought that was a nice touch. Nothing to complain about with breakfast. Enjoyed the hard boiled eggs they had available. At the end of our stay, what a pleasant surprise to be gifted with a photo of us on the chair with a picture frame! It was the cherry on top for our stay. Would definitely consider staying here again my next trip out to Rocky Mountain National Park. read more

I am rating the hot tub and pool area for Murphy's River Lodge! This place was down the road from where we were staying, and because it was tremendously cold, we weren't able to use their outdoor amenities, but their pool seemed to be open to the public. We were able to relax in their nice, steamy hot tub with sizzling bubbles and relaxing setting. It wasn't crowded, as we came in pretty late at night. They have a table with lots of towels, a hamper for the dirty ones, and also a small shower room where you can rinse off that Sulphur water from the pool. It was soo much bigger and spacious than Murphy's Lodge, however we were debating to stay at this one instead. read more

My husband and I just spent an amazing 4 days at Murphy's River Lodge. We had a room on the lower floor right on the river and ate every meal we could on our little deck (unless a thunderstorm was passing through!), enjoying the sounds of the river and the birds. The staff was SO friendly and helpful. We arrived before check-in, so we sat in the bench swing next to the river with our picnic lunch. Coffee, water infused with fruit, and fresh movie style popcorn were available in the office, and even full size dog bones for your pet. Our room had a kitchen with a full sized refrigerator, oven, microwave, fully stocked cupboards with dishes, pot and pans, toaster, etc so we were able to prepare our own meals and save $$. A nice "pack your own breakfast in a bag" was provided each morning from 7-10 a.m. Lots of cute touches in our room like a bathroom towel formed in the shape of a swan and tissue made into roses. They also had DVDs and games like corn hole which we didn't use, but saw families having lots of fun. Great location near the Rocky Mountain National Park where we hiked each day. This is a beautiful motel. Very average but in fact very beautiful. They offer free DVDs and free popcorn at the front desk, and they greet you with three cute dogs. They have a nice view of the river and a nice view of the highway. We have seen elk and deer walking by the motel. I have a nice fireplace inside the room. But they provide you with one jar of canned fuel. The air conditioning works very well, and they have a nice fan, and a box fan inside the closet if needed. The bathroom is very comfortable, the shower adjusts to how you want it to, and there is a nice TV. There is a coffee maker. Overall it was a good experience, everything was clean, and the bedding was comfortable, but I would not recommend using the couch bed, for it is very very hard. The only reason why I read it four stars instead of five, is first of all, because of all the noise, and second of all, because there is a creepy door that leads into a dark staircase. We made sure to lock that very tight. Also, the amenities were very low in terms of breakfast. There is a muffin, some hard-boiled eggs, some bread and peanut butter and jelly, watery hot chocolate, coffee, and that's pretty much it. But this is a good motel to stay at if you are visiting. We decided to spend the night for the Christmas parade in Estes. There were 5 families in our party , we stayed in a variety of rooms, my hubby and I stayed in a king room with river view..it was great, right on the river, we were able to walk off the deck and watch the Elk.. the rooms were very clean, beds comfortable. We decorated gingerbread houses with our grandkids and the little kitchenette was just perfect. The front desk people were very warm and welcoming both when we checked in and checked out. The lodge was very convenient to town, we could walk along the bike path and it was only a few blocks.... the kids had a great time in the pool with the adults watching in the hot tub...overall everybody was very pleased and we look forward to xomi read more

Due to an extreme winter weather warning the morning of our reservation we did not have enough time to cancel the reservation and get a refund. We were well aware of their policy before making the reservation but weather was supposed to be clear and there was no chance we were cancelling up until the morning of, when out of nowhere there was no way we could make it up. They were not at all accommodating or helpful when we called twice and when I our third party reservation called as well. We explained our situation and they were less then empathetic. I have stayed with them in the past and loved it and they were amazing which is why we chose to stay there again, but I guess things change and they are no longer the resort I remember or want to do business with. There were other and better options close by and we have learned to choose more wisely when it comes to refund and booking polices. Book at your own risk. read more

Due to their service, I chose 4 stars. Overall, this is about a 3.5 star place. Location: This motel is perfectly located in walking distance to town, but you still feel that you are tucked away from it all. Rooms: The rooms are a bit dated and basic, but clean. They have window air conditioners that worked well. Noise: If you are on the bottom floor, it can be very noisy. Thankfully the individuals above us were not, but we could hear every footstep. I would suggest getting a top floor room on the river to minimize any noise. Pool: This pool needs help. The squishy tiles are coming off and the overall feel is kind of scary. Amenities: Free popcorn, library of movies, lawn games and fire pits for you to make your own fire for s'mores. They offer a continental breakfast, but I would recommend eating somewhere else as the options aren't that healthy. It was nice though to get a cup of coffee and grab some snacks for our hike. Service: The service was very friendly and you can tell they are trying. Parking: The spots are tight, so if you have a big car you may have problems getting in and out. Overall we had a great time. Pros - The room was a good size and clean. The location was within walking distance to downtown Estes. The staff was friendly. Cons- The room's decor and furnishings were old and outdated. The safe was tiny and it didn't work. You needed three different remotes to work the tv and dvd player and our room was missing one of the remotes. They couldn't find the third for us, so we had to go old school and change the inputs on the tv itself (I know, #firstworldproblems). They need to spray for spiders. read more

Poor customer service. The front desk people act as if we checked in a Boot camp. Outdoor furniture on balcony of river view room were dusty as if they are not intended to have people use them. We had 2 nights reserved and later added additional 2nights. We requested to stay at the same room even it's a separate reservation. I was told that they will make accommodations but when we arrive , we were told to checkout our room at 11 and check back in at 4 p.m. That means we have to pack and unpack in one day. Not to mention we have no place to go for 5 hours. The owner makes no apology and acted as if they are not responsible for what happened. Excellent, excellent, excellent! This place was just our speed for a vintage lodge-like motel. The whole family visited summer 2011. It is close enough to easily walk (for most folks) to all the shops and restaurants downtown, but because it's not directly in the middle of it all, the rates are a little more reasonable. It's an older place that has recently been updated. The guest rooms have been updated with carpet, tile, curtains, and bedding that will surround you with the modern earth-tones most of us expect today. The "lodge" is laid out with a two-story guest room structure that wraps around, in a square fashion, the parking lot while the office building is in the middle. All the buildings have been updated as well with fresh paint in shades of brown. Though updated, we personally enjoyed the sound of walking around on the wood balconies... somewhat creaked a little. Some of the railings were worn smooth. We love an older place. The more history a place can get under its belt, the more character and charm it seems to have. The property backs up to a creek roaring right out of the mountains. Very nice. Get a room at the back of the "square" to have a balcony or patio if you'd like to take advantage of the relaxing sights and sounds. The staff was very nice. We felt like we were staying with friends. They have a great continental breakfast with cereal, danishes, fruit, bagels, juice, coffee, etc. The set up is cool, too. On the second level, sort of a loft above the pool, the breakfast is in a kitchen area with lots of tables, a fireplace, a TV, microwave, sink, and a small selection of books and board games. Cautions: In the updated, guest room bathroom, there was only a single, round, extension wall mirror. I thought it was cool, but any women who rely on larger mirrors may not like it. The breakfast area is on the second level which is not a big deal for most, but anyone who does not like to or cannot climb stairs will not like this arrangement. Parking is tight--If you are traveling with two cars, there may not be a space for both. With this known, it's not enough to keep me away. In the end, it was just right. Excellent customer service and very accommodating. I got a room that was pet friendly and originally they gave me one in the first floor. Later in the evening when I got back and was relaxing for the evening watching tv a family with kids came back to their room that was right above me and were very loud. I called the front desk and asked if they could move me and there were no more pet friendly rooms available though. The manager made an exception however and I was really grateful. This place has a great location next to the park and the rooms were super clean and prices were fair for the nights stay. read more

We drove from Chicago, Illinois to this charming town, Estes Park. We looked for a place near water, easy access to the "town", and clean. We were not disappointed. All of the rooms along the water's edge were taken, but we were able to get the last room in the place-a room above the office-perfect for us. We had a small balcony outside our room. Could not have been more perfect-not to mention the short walk to town and all of the shopping choices. read more
