    "Breakfast" that was served
    Nicole H.

I'll start with the good- The location is walkable to downtown and has nice views of the mountains, lake and golf course. The bed was comfortable and the water pressure was good. The not so good- The room was "tired" and the carpet was so worn and dirty looking that I was extra vigilant to wear shoes at all times. There are no soaps or shampoos, not even hand soap in the bathroom, so make sure you bring your own. (There were dispensers but they were empty) The "breakfast" consisted of a loaf of bread in a keeper, Raisin Bran (no milk though), there was 1 yogurt, and peanut butter packets. I'm not sure what the "So much more" that they advertise is referring to. When I inquired about it the young man at the front said they didn't receive their Sysco delivery- there is a Safeway within eyesight so they could have made an attempt to rectify, but obviously didn't care enough to bother. The parking lot is in disrepair and the entrance is not well marked. There were handymen on site, so maybe they are trying to update the rooms, but this property has surely seen better days. Overall

Would have been nice to watch a tv that was hooked up!

The TV was not hooked up and when WE hooked it up only one channel came in. Our reserved parking place was taken but outside the room the parking places weren't marked, just IN the rooms. No beverages except coffee included in continental breakfast. The views are fabulous and it's close enough to all that is going on in Estes.

Stayed here one night recently in November. Decent room. Big and two beds. Good location and super affordable. I ran to Estes lake park in the morning. Breakfast was okay it's just cereal some fruit and waffles you can make. They have bagels and muffins too. There is coffee and water and juice. It was cool they had a hot tub and even though it was freezing outside we went in and had a nice view of the mountains and then elk came by! It was magical.

I enjoyed staying here! The view all around is wonderful and it's conveniently close to the shops and restaurants but also far enough where you can feel cozy enough to hermit in the room away from all people. The room itself is cute and tidy and the beds are one of the most comfiest I've ever slept on. I almost like it more than my own bed at home! One thing I would warn others is that if you're at the bottom floor, you can definitely hear the footsteps and conversations of the people from upstairs. It was so clear that my fiancé shouted "WHAT?" from the bathroom thinking I said something before he realized it was coming from upstairs, lol. I personally don't mind because I have ear plugs for bedtime so I definitely recommend that! Other than that, I wouldn't mind coming back here in the future!

The back porch chair. There are two.

The view from my room was breath taking. At first the lady at the front desk gave me one room and she said it doesn't have much of a view but if you want I can switch it if I don't like it. So I asked if I could just get a nicer view before having to go back and forth and I'm glad I did so. There is 4 buildings I think to stay at. The one I stayed at had an upper floor but you drive up a hill and park your car right in front of the door which is nice. The rooms are small but has everything you need. Has a mini fridge that has a small freezer, a nice sized bathroom, a microwave, a coffee maker and a nice closet. My room originally was supposed to have a king bed but with the better view it had two queen sized beds. The room also has a back porch that had two chairs and they are separated by a small wall to each room. The rooms also have old fashion keys to each room instead of the key cards which I really liked. The freeway is the road that the hotel is off of so be very careful because it is hard to get in and out of. There is a private pond that you can walk around. And the breakfast was just a grab and go. So they had bagels and cereal. They also had an espresso machine that made delicious espressos. I would definitely stay here again. The charge for having a dog was $15. Oh my tv in my room didn't work and said to call the front desk. I ended up calling them after 5:30. Not like I came here to watch tv but still back round noise is nice and I'm used to it. They sent in a maintenance guy who was very nice. He came and switched the modem saying it happens a lot. He came back to make sure it worked was a very quick fix. He also had gloves and a mask. You couldn't get into the lobby without having a mask on. The bed was also very very comfortable! And the shower had great water pressure.

Handing over a bottle of this to just any one - what could possibly happen??? Looks like they want the fire dept to show up!:-/

Check out the crappy food they put out for guests! Also, there is a strange looking fireplace in the room with NO instructions on how it works! So, I asked the front desk, and this is what they handed me to start a fire!!! Boy, can you imagine the liability of starting a huge !!!

This is such a nice lodge! Close enough to Estes Park it is walkable to the downtown area. José was the attendant on duty who checked us in. Very professional and hospitable. He's lived in Estes his whole life! We talked about all the changes since we've visited-probably 7-8 years ago. He advised that the last 4-6 years have brought more population and more shops and stores. Downtown has had little change in terms of all the shops and dining -I'm sure I could spend multiple days here. He graduated from Estes High School a couple of years ago. His graduating class consisted of 64 students, he says this past year it was 130+. We were only able to secure our room for 2 nights. I'm going to see if we can get on a waitlist as we'd like to extend our stay. The room is very nice. Lots of dresser drawer space, nice flat screen TV ( in case of rain I guess)! Mini fridge and microwave- mini Mr Coffee-(we are missing the pot), coffee and creamer-sugar sweetener packs. We think it's a Queen size mattress -we are used to a King so hard to gage. It is comfortable. The furniture is designed from wood and looks great- like furnishings in a lodge should look. The shower is huge, The rest of the bathroom is pretty snug but manageable. Love the fact that they have dispensers near the wall on the sink and in the shower for body soap and shampoo. Currently they are not doing daily room cleaning due to Covid which is pretty much status quo of everywhere we've been over the past month. The bedding is upscale and really comfortable! Nice crisp white sheets, white comforter and duvet cover. We did not need another blanket but if there is a need they have one available in the closet for you. The closet is nice size and has a little luggage holder along with plenty of space for hanging and or storing belongings. We have a screened in back door that goes out onto a large deck. The lodging we have is a duplex style. At this point we don't have anyone next-door but I am expecting that to change. The deck is plenty for two families or couples or whomever. I'll add pictures of many of these items I am mentioning so you can see for yourself how comfortable these accommodations are. Most all the rooms face the pond where you can fish and the mountains which are just beautiful to look at. Estes Park is the gateway to Rocky Mountain National Park. Last night we took José's suggestion and ordered takeout barbecue from a place just a couple miles away. I'll be writing that up separately. The barbecue was fantastic. Best I've had in a very long time. I hope to see him today to thank him for that suggestion! We may go into town today to do a little shopping and maybe pick up lunch or supper, however,we are both just tired. If we decide not to go into town this is certainly the perfect place to relax. We've been coming to Estes Park for many years on and off and have always enjoyed it but we will definitely plan to book our forthcoming visits at Discovery Lodge in the future! This trip was a "Spur of the moment adventure"-if you plan to stay here it would be a really good idea to book ahead. I am certain it fills up quite often. Last but not least this large is dog friendly and the pet fee is $15 per night which is the average that we have found during our travels this past month. I really just can't say enough good things about this place! Come check it out for yourself!!

Beautiful view of the mountains over the motel

It's a little pricey for the age of the motel, but competitive with others in town. What makes it worth it is the view of the the mountains, Elk on property, and I love the fact that they allow dogs for only $20 per dog. They have obviously done upgrades to their bathrooms and the shower pressure is great. The room had a coffee pot that used pouches, a small fridge and microwave. Updated lamps had 110 plug ins but no USB. Perfect for a one night stay with my two doggies, my total cost was $293 the last week of September. The continental breakfast included delicious coffee along with cereal, fruit, muffins, and toast.

The hotel is rich in history. Everywhere you look there is charm. We stayed in the "Cowboy Attic Suite". My mom immediately had an "experience". I heard a grandfather clock chime throughout our stay. I never saw one and forgot to ask where it was located. I love old clocks. My aunt had her own experience that woke her from her sleep. Everyone we encountered was nice and we appreciated the cander as we asked for their stories/experiences there. The bad....for what we paid, it was not worth it. The floor feels dirty. It is as though they have not thought to clean the carpets in quite some time. Under the bed is a nice layer of dust. The whole hotel could use a moist cloth and a good wipe down. The dust in the display cases throughout the hotel is obvious and off putting. We met Hannibal. Wish we would have booked the seance, but alas, we ran out of time. He was a hoot to talk to.

As everyone else has mentioned, the construction is a huge turn off! And absolutely no mention of it when you're booking your room. In addition, when I booked my room, I did not realize that I was booking it in the Aspire building. I thought that the Stanley hotel was one big hotel. I did not realize that there were different newer buildings. In the end, though, I am very happy that we are in the other building as what is being done at the original hotel is really offputting. The staff, however, were very nice and accommodating. Besides all of the construction, they have tours going on an hourly basis that are open to anyone who passes by, for a cost of $25+, of course and no discount for hotel guests. Those tourists who have not spent several hundred per night are all over the main lobby, dirtying up the carpet, wandering around the property with screaming kids, going up and down the stairwells, and elevator if it's running, just taking up space that should be reserved for guests!! Especially guests who are paying dearly for what they thought would be an old, elegant hotel experience. It is definitely not an elegant hotel anymore. It tries, a little, but is obviously too interested in making money off of tours rather than providing an exceptional experience for guests. I had envisioned myself sitting in that grand lobby reading a book with some tea. Impossible and wouldn't be pleasant if it was possible. Our room in the Aspire was nice, and the lobby, spa and gym facilities and the outdoor pool are very attractive and peaceful. But, again, some things just don't make sense. For instance, the lovely fireplace they have in the lobby is shut down at 8 PM when the desk agent goes home. I have been looking forward all day, to just sitting by that fireplace with a nice drink and reading my book. Seems like a normal expectation for a higher end hotel in the Colorado mountains. The pool area is nice, as is the steam room and gym. There are plenty of towels, tea and coffee and nice amenities. They need little tables out by the lounge chairs on the pool deck for people to set their drinks and things on instead of the ground. The beds, linens and pillows were great. There is no mini fridge in the room, no additional amenities in bathroom like Q tips, makeup remover wipes, etc... normal amenities offered in hotels of this price range and expected caliber. There is no full length mirror in the bedroom or in the bathroom and the mirror in the bathroom is so dimly lit it is impossible for a woman to see to put makeup on and no other mirror in the bedroom. They don't make up your room or refresh towels unless you specifically request it. I understand not changing out towels for ecological reasons, but when you are paying these kind of prices for a hotel room, someone should come in and make up your bed every day and tidy up and take the trash out. We're just one night in to our stay so we shall see how the rest goes. It has been pretty disappointing though.

It's a beautiful setting, but several issues impacted my experience. First, I felt the advertising was a bit misleading. I saw a pool listed on Orbitz, but I discovered there isn't a pool anywhere on the property. Instead, there are two above-ground hot tubs. I went to the one on the second level, but I found climbing the narrow metal stairs with wet feet to be a bit dangerous. I also noticed that the rooms are slightly dated and showing their age. In my room, the curtain rod was actually falling out of the wall, which told me they need to keep up with better maintenance. You should also know there is no lobby or front desk here; I just received a code via text message and entered it to get into my room. While efficient, it felt a bit impersonal. My biggest complaint, however, was the construction noise. I didn't realize they are currently expanding the inn and building two new buildings on the same lot. Unfortunately, my room was right next to the construction site, and I had to deal with loud noise all morning. I think this place has a lot of potential once the upgrades are done, but between the maintenance issues and the noise, I didn't find it to be the relaxing getaway I was hoping for.

This place is literally nestled on a side of a mountain w other little resort around. The check in process was so cute. Katie checked us in gave us some yummy cookies and I even bought a cute 4seasons inn sticker to put on my car. The room we booked was a private suite w a private spa grill and seating area. There is seating area by the grill and by the spa. And it's also on the 2nd floor just an fyi if you're wheel chair bound or whatever limitations you may have. So we go into our room and she literally decorated the whole room for us for our anniversary and had a bottle of wine w two wine glasses and fire wood already in our room for us to start a fire. The room was VERY spacious. Has a kitchen that worked a full coffee maker. A good size fridge and the freezer worked amazing. The toiletries that come w the room smell just fantasists. The best morning I woke up to wild turkeys on the ground just gobbling away and elk and deer. There is a community grills and a spa and a few other amenities. The thing I love about this place is it's literally less than 5 mins from the National park and far enough away to be secluded but 8 mins from EVERYTHING in town. And in Estes park there is so much cramed in that town! I LOVED everything. Not a thing was bad about my whole stay.
