We booked the Castle View cabin on the AirB app. The cabin is a private one bed/one bath space with a fireplace and indoor hot tub. I was worried that the indoor hot tub room would mean everything would appear run down but not at all! Everything was so clean and freshly maintained. Staff was attentive and we always had firewood and clean towels. The cabin is part of community but also felt private. Would definitely stay again. read more

BAIT AND SWITCH...I'm extremely disappointed!! Do not stay here!!! I came for a milestone birthday celebration and was hoping for some quality time with my family in a cabin near a creek in the woods. Instead, the cabins were on top of each other like army barracks and was nothing more than a truck stop motel on a very loud and busy highway. There was no peace and quiet at all. Unfortunately the photos posted on Airbnb was a bait and switch and did not accurately represent the property. Although the cabin in the photos looked run down, we thought it was ok because of the property we were going to have to ourselves. The creek in the picture is positioned so that you don't realize it is right on the highway. You can hear the cars whizzing past and cannot sit outside to enjoy the space. I asked for a refund immediately upon arrival so I could stay elsewhere. The clerk told me to ask Airbnb because they couldn't do anything. I called Airbnb to resolve it and they said they couldn't do anything for me because the owner refused to refund my money. The owner stated that the photos accurately reflected the cabin. I told him that it if that were the case, the photos would show the highway next to the creek and would show the view from the room overlooking the highway. No response after that. read more

We reserved a 2 queen bed room and received a1 king. We had a rock hard bed and the shower barely drizzled water then turned ice cold. We discovered this around 10pm. The following morning I went in to check out. Explained room we paid for was different from what we ordered. Wanda sharply replies you bought it through Expedia so they are responsible. Wanda expressed anger as I also spoke of the rock hard bed and broken shower. No one has EVER complained before. I Mentioned I may feel it my duty to warn others of mean Wanda at the front desk. It won't hurt us she says. We have more customers than we need AND they do not complain. Lessons learned. read more

This was our 3rd year at the Castle Mountain property we have stayed with McGregor for years and always love their properties. We have stayed at Castle Rock (hot tub), Evergreen A/B, Castle Pines and the Homestead. We definitely prefer the Evergreen A/B cabins. Evergreen is up the road towards RMNP right next to The Homestead. Castle Rock and Pines are nice and on the main property. While having the hot tub in cabin was great the cabin is oddly payed out. The bathroom is very small and at the opposite end from the bedroom which is challenging when getting ready or for that late night bathroom run. Evergreen A/B are more like a little cabin with a deck next to a stream with an active flock of turkeys and other wildlife. The properties are within 4 miles at least of the Fall River entrance to RMNP and truth be told the easiest way into the park. The cabins are always clean and have amenities like a fridge, stove, coffee maker, dishes, cutlery and pots/pans. They provide some coffee and plenty of filters. The outsides are ice with chairs and tables to sit outside to enjoy the beautiful area and the wildlife that wander about. We have seen turkeys, chipmunks, mule deer and Elk. They provide start sticks, matches and firewood. Firewood is available for purchase if you need more. I think is was $4.50 a bundle. We could burn a bundle in an evening in a few hours. The TVs all have streaming apps and regular TV. The Wi-Fi can be spotty just like your cell signal and this can be frustrating. I know you are there to get away but when you need to have WiFi to communicate with home and kids it can be a pain. There is laundry available in the main property for $1 a load for washer and dryer. They have 2 of each. Enough cannot be said about the wonderful staff. They are always so nice and knowledgeable of the area. In the evening they even have some fresh backed cookies! I would recommend these properties and we stay here at least once a year. read more

If you are just looking for a place to sleep and you are going to be gone all day, it's okay. We are in our seventies, and spend some of our day in the room. Archaic microwave (dials that are hard to pinpoint), tiny bathroom vanity (almost the same size as the sink), and no breakfast. You have to lock your car, because the bears have figured out how to open car doors. Otherwise it's just "okay". read more

We were booked to stay here for 2 days and our cat became ill. We called 24 hours in advance to cancel and they said there was nothing they could do. We asked to speak to the manager and no one called us back. They charged us $916 regardless. Our cat passed on. This is criminal to steal peoples money with no compassion. read more

I do not recommend staying here! Staff is terrible and they will lie just to add extra fees to your stay. The cabin was very outdated and smelled so musty it gave me headache during our entire stay. We forgot a couple of things in our cabin. They said they did not find anything, but we know for a fact we accidentally left these items in the cabin. They will also walk the property at night to stalk you during your stay. They asked me why I was up at 2:00am. I have a toddler, but it was literally none of their business. My daughter is also allergic to dogs, but they still let their dogs roam free on the property. We had a dog scratching at our sliding door every morning to wake us up for food. It was very annoying. We'll look into much better options the next time we're in Estes. read more

My whole family and I had scheduled to visit this weekend and unfortunately we all got sick and so my dad called and spoke to the manager to see if we could either get a refund or reschedule for a different weekend, the manager was very rude and disrespectful. If there are no refunds, how about you allow us to reschedule for another weekend once we get better, instead of taking our money!!!!! read more

On a road trip thru Colorado, we book our lodging when we get into whichever town we end up in. We have two dogs traveling it's us and it makes last minute bookings that much more difficult. We were definitely having a hard time in Estes Park so when we saw a vacancy sign on this place, we stopped in and the front seat staff couldn't have been more friendly and accommodating. They had a beautiful river side cabin with small kitchen available. We grabbed it and once we got inside , we called the front desk and booked a second night. The pluses were all the chairs set up along the river to relax. Fishing rods were complimentary with no license needed. They had a hot tub that could be reserved to meet COVID requirements and they had a laundry. The bed was super comfy as was the couch. The little kitchen was awesome and we ended up cooking throughout our stay even though there was a restaurant within walking distance. We had reservations for Rocky Mountain NP and this lodge is maybe 5 minutes away from the entrance. The only downfall which wasn't really a downfall are the bears, lol! We just had no idea how prevalent they were in the area (our own tourist ignorance). Although our rooftop carrier was locked and secure, a bear climbed right up on my 4runner and tore the front half of it off to grab a sealed bag of dehydrated food. So if you happen upon this lodge, definitely be very aware of bear protocol. There are signs near the trash dumpsters but maybe some information inside the cabin would have helped. Overall this stay was definitely a five star and I would recommend to everyone! read more

Super experience in the Riverside unit in early May 2018. The people were wonderful and the unit was spotless. The lodge's units are homey and well-kept, but not fancy. Our unit was the cabin-in-the-woods I wish my family owned, say, built by my parents or grandparents. Everything felt cozy, clean, and comfortable. The unit was well-stocked with kitchen and bath items. I was happy to snuggle up on the couch, relax on an Adirondack chair on the deck over the river, use the shower. Be aware that this isn't a luxury experience - the countertops aren't granite, the ceilings don't soar overhead, and the furniture isn't new. I'm so glad they weren't so cookie cutter like a chain hotel! This is Estes Park. The building, furnishings, and facilities were so well-maintained and clean, the effect was charming and fun. FYI - Estes Park is sort of different standards than Vail or Breckenridge, if you haven't been to Estes Park before. I have stayed at other places in Estes Park that I've literally left days early because they were icky, and they cost twice as much as they should - that's not unusual in Estes. I am so glad that we found Castle Mountain Lodge this time! Let's talk people. The owners, the ladies at the front desk, and the guys doing maintenance were super. Friendly and welcoming, we had everything we needed. Other guests also seemed relaxed, entertained, and polite. Amenities: Nice, clean hot tub in a separate building which you can privately reserve, if your unit doesn't have a private hot tub. Shuffleboard and horseshoes - good old fashioned fun, truly. Best of all, we had an inside wood burning fireplace and were supplied with wood - every night was beautiful with that little extra. Outdoor fire pit also stocked with wood. Where do I start?! Saw this place on our way into Rocky Mountain National Park. We called to check it out and was greeted by an adorable woman who showed us two different cabins. We picked the one by the Fall River with a fireplace. It was magical. Clean, well designed for three adults and close to the park entrance and downtown Estes Park. Decided to explore this hotel further after seeing positive reviews on Yelp. A few friends and I were searching for lodging that featured quality cabins, and easy access to the wilderness. Castle Mountain Lodge was the perfect option and we could not be any happier. Wanda was the receptionist and she exceeded our expectations by her courteous service. We were also delighted to learn there was a river only about 30 feet from our cabin. All in all, this lodge shouldn't stray far from your mind if you're looking for a full kitchen, friendly staff and hassle-free amenities. Absolutely the best place to stay. I've stayed in the River Castle 7 cabin twice, with a bit of a gap in between stays. My most recent stay being just a week ago and the memories of why I love this place came rushing back. Not much has changed. There is a little kitchenette (w/plates, pots, pans, glasses, utensils), private hot tub, huge king size bed, private patio, fireplace, full cable TV w/ VHS & DVD player, and amazingly beautiful scenery. They provide firewood, fire starters, and matches (if you want more/extra you can buy some from the office). The office has board games and DVD's to borrow. LuJean was working the office when I came (both times) and she was very friendly and nice. The rooms are clean and well kept. Fall River runs along side most of the cabins. There is a paved path that goes into downtown Estes Park. Nicky's restaurant is just a few steps away, but does require reservations. The restroom does not have a blow dryer, but does provide all of the other necessities. Room service comes by daily for dirty towels, trash, refreshes bathroom necessities and provides clean towels. If you want them to make the bed and clean the dishes you have to pay extra. There is free wi-fi, but in River Castle 7 the signal wasn't that great and we ended up not really using it. That being said these "cons" are minor, and if I could, I would live here! It is the most peaceful place on Earth. read more

The kind folks here made their mistake right. They sent me a free night's stay that my kids and I used (with my service dog in tow) in November. We stayed in the Castle Rock private cabin with hot tub. It was simply amazing. The furnishings are not new or modern, but they and the cabin are clean. We arrived at this place after dark, and we left first thing in the morning. So we barely got to know this place, but it sure seemed great. It was expensive, but every place in Estes Park is the same way. You get what you pay for. It's in a great location, on the road that goes into Rocky Mountain National Park. Fall River is just across the road and a mountain shoots up directly behind that. I'm sure there was other neat stuff on the grounds. I'm also sure that you'll be visited by some Rocky Mountain elk or bears if you stand outside long enough. Fine rooms, great location, moderately priced. We were only staying one night, so we stayed in one of the rooms. It was perfect. Small, but very comfortable with plenty of room, very quiet, comfortable beds and a little porch we could sit out on. The rooms were exceptionally clean and updated, but still have the wonderful cabin feel. The entire staff was friendly and helpfull and the setting was great. You are right off the river, plenty of trees and we even had Wild Turkeys wondering on the lawn. We will definitely go back. read more

Great location, great hosts: For me the most important thing was that it is very close to the Fall River park entrance -- you're there in 4 minutes. No need to go through trashy Estes Park and its traffic jams. The facts that unit #6 was spotless, had a tiny but great kitchenette, was quiet -- those were nice extras. This place is the real deal. We stayed in Homestead and it was amazing. A real, honest to goodness log cabin. Sloped ceilings, nooks and crannies for the kids to play in, fireplace, wood deck. So much fun to stay in and so comfortable. The furnishings were the absolute perfect blend of really, really comfortable (like grandma's house should be!) but also totally clean. Beds were very cozy. One side of the house faced a flowing creek. The staff were so kind and real helpful. There was an ice cream social on Tuesday night that was so nice. Make your own ice cream sundaes and live music. After a day hiking in Rocky Mountain forest, it was a perfect way to end the day. Anyone would be fortunate to be able to stay at this very special place. read more

We recently stayed here for 3 nights around the third week in oct. We stayed in castle 3 which is one of their rooms. It had 2 queen beds and joined to another room that was identical. The guest in that room were friends of ours and we did open the doors between the rooms the last day we were there. We were staying there with basically an entire wedding party, that included basically all the friends and family from all over the country and Brazil. The wedding had been planned for over a year and everything booked at a different lodge, Mary's Lake but the Boulder flood and gvt shutdown changed everything. We were fortunate that Castle Mountain and a neighboring lodge were able to take care of all of us on such short notice. Our room was made to look like a cabin and did have that feel. They are perched on the rocks. The view out the back window is rocks and trees marching straight up and the turkey trail is there also. I liked to wake up early in the morning and watch them come down to the main area to the bird feeder. They are accustomed to people and seem not to mind being photographed. The flock was between 15-20 birds while we were there. If you have pets you need to leash them because some dogs find turkey poo attractive. The grounds people keep the area very clean. We had snow while we were there and the stairs were sanded and then swept clean again when it was gone. Firewood is brought daily to the cabins with fireplaces. Lots of places outdoors with grills and places for a campfire. I did not get a chance to inspect the hot tub area but I know they did have one available. I did visit one of the cabins that had its own fireplace and hot tub and it was very nice. The hot tub was ok for 3. All the accommodations seemed to have parking at the door. When you arrive you cross the covered bridge over the trout stream and the first cabin is a full size house. The grooms family had this cabin and it had at least 3 bedrooms, large dining room, kitchen and living room. We would often have gatherings there for breakfast or coffee and dessert and had 15-20 people or more. Our room had wifi, TV , a fan, coffee & coffee pot, microwave and little fridge. Cabins with kitchen areas seemed well supplied. The lodge office had a large gathering area with a fireplace and seating + info about area attractions. This is a perfect place to stay if visiting the national park. Be advised. The park opens on Memorial Day and closes mid oct. We went for the afternoon but you are unable to drive the main upper parts of the park. We did enjoy the lower area, gift shop and saw a herd of elk at the entrance. We hope to return to castle lodge when the park is open. Persons with mobility issues need to ask about which cabins work best. The castle rooms require climbing some stairs. read more

After staying here with my family over the years, I think this was our last visit to Castle Mountain Lodge. The accommodations are ok because of where there they are located, but it was the treatment we received that was different. I brought my mom to Estes Park for her 66th birthday. By the end of the trip, we had been accused of, get this, smoking so much marihuana that we wore out the smoke detectors. As if. Laughable as that is, they expected me to buy that even tho it was November and the batteries had 4/17 written on them. I guess everyone in Colorado that actually does smoke in their homes must wear out their smoke detectors everyday. Do I smoke? Yes. But I am also a 45 year old man that respects other's wishes, and they had no smoking signs on the fireplace. Why would I disrespect that? I asked the counter lady. Apparently because they've seen everything in their long career, we are guilty of anything before even arriving. So the night I call the office to report the two alarms I couldn't reach, they send over Mike. Mike was not very happy having to come back to work (even thought he filled out the application for the job he got). That night he explained it was time for the batteries to be changed, as they do it on daylight savings time, which is in a couple days. Well that's what he told us but he went back and told the office it smelled of weed in our cabin. With my mom there. Then when he shows up some time after noon the next day (i wouldn't know the time because he said he'd be there at 8 am. We waited till noon before we left. He never showed) and goes to tell the lady up front that we left our dog there alone. Not really knowing if there was anyone inside or not. Yeah. Mike likes the drama and needs a little hobby. So finally the lady up front tells me that they found my receipt from the dispensary and figured we'd be blazing it up in the cabin. THEY FOUND MY RECEIPT! I used to love this place, but they are very judgmental and unapologetic. There are other places just as nice on Fall River road. Look around. Wouldn't wanna upset Mikey! read more
