Hidden gem. Friendly staff. Clean property. Amazing indoor pool and hot tub. Great little free breakfast. Will definitely stay here again!

Located off of Elkhorn in Estes Park, CO. We chose it for location in proximity to Rocky Mountain National Park, cost relative to similar hotels in Estes Park, and also distance to the shops in downtown Estes Park. Very unassuming but it looks family owned with about 30ish total rooms. Our room was small but looked well kept and smelled decent compared to other hotels that we've stayed at in Colorado. Funny enough, their bathroom towels were folded in swans, tissues into roses, etc; very old time flair that is appreciated. Parking is available in their adjacent parking lot and will save you parking fees downtown/right down the street. A couple of downsides are always there. Firstly, the road noise is really loud from the street! The cars pass by quite quickly on Elkhorn and you 100% notice every time one does so from the inside of your room. The walls don't do the best job at isolating noise from your neighbors/ people walking up and down the stairs as well so that's a downside and a bummer during bedtime. Overall, it's a value choice for staying in Estes Park, where a room/lodge can be easily over $300/night once taxes and fees are figured in. However you pay for what you get and the noise is a bit more than what you are used to, the room is pretty small and cramped, and the room is definitely a bit on the older side.

River view from Room 206

Perfect spot in Estes Park! Staff was fabulous! I recently stayed at Murphy's River Lodge for a wedding. We were in room 206, at the top of the stairs right next to the continental breakfast room. I was worried it would be loud but it was so very quiet. No issues at all. The view of the river was fabulous. Perfect walking distance to downtown and a quick drive to the park. The room had everything we needed to enjoy our stay. We will definitely be back! My only "issue" was that the water pressure in the shower was low. All in all, it was a great stay!

We haven't checked out yet and we are already planning to come back. The room is comfortable- 4 of us on this trip. The HUGE private balcony overlooking the river has been a consistent hangout when at the hotel. Melody in the main office is so friendly and informative! They have games and movies to rent, great selection for Covid friendly breakfast, heated pool and we have seen the same elk every day so the kids have named him Elroy the Elk- he is magnificent! We are walking distance to the cozy downtown area with tons of unique shops, restaurants and treats!

Great affordable place to stay in Estes Park. We could walk downtown for shopping and dining in less than 10 minutes, the rooms were really clean, the beds comfortable, and they weren't chintzy with the towels. Overall great place. Would definitely stay again.

Very spacious room with 2 king beds, a futon and dining area.

The lady at the front office was friendly and got us checked in quickly. In the front office they have fresh popcorn, DVD's to bring to your room as well as coffee. Location was great and within walking distance to the main strip shopping. We were so happy that it snowed the day we came in. It made for nice evening walk and beautiful pictures. Our room (#217) had large windows with a good view of the front. And was VERY spacious. We had 2 king size beds, a futon sofa as well as a dining table. Everything was clean and neat. There was a complimentary to-go breakfast upstairs above the pool. They offered fresh fruit, granola bars, danishes, juice, oatmeal, cereal, coffee and milk. The lady serving was very nice and kept everything organized and moving smoothly. We didn't go to the pool but when we were getting breakfast I could see them cleaning the pool area and they were doing a thorough job. We will definitely stay at Murphy's River Lodge again.

Beautiful location on the river and the sounds of the river almost make this worth the stay! However, the room is out dated, the furniture old and uncomfortable, the heater was broken (which they fixed), the in-room safe was broken (which they fixed), we were scheduled to have the room cleaned and even confirmed that morning we wanted the room cleaned and new towels and it didn't happen! No way to watch tv from bed so the only thing to sit on was this loveseat. Continental breakfast was good, several items to choose from and most of the staff was was very nice. When we asked to have something fixed it did get done but had several things in a 3 day stay that made it frustrating! Was offered a 10% refund ($71 dollars) after we left. We spent over $700 dollars on 3 days and they should spend some of that money on updating/upgrading the rooms!

Me and my husband loved staying here and wish we could do it more often! They were so accommodating and I love the hot cocoa and movie stuff in the front office :)

This was an amazing little hideaway nestled in the mountain side! The check in experience was like something out of a cool old movie. The gentleman at the counter was friendly and attentive. They had board games, and movies, and popcorn, and more right there for free! We had a blast looking though the movies and games like old date night at Blockbuster! The room and grounds were extremely clean. We had a little room right off of the river and it was simply beautiful. It snowed a little and it made it totally magical! We also took advantage of the hot tub after our 12 hours in the car. Heaven. Simply heaven. Friendliest staff in town. Amazing views. Some rooms have fireplace. Fridge and microwave too!

From start to finish, my two girlfriends and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. Every single interaction I had with the staff was exceptional. It was refreshing to encounter such genuinely friendly people! They were also nice about accommodating our requests for a slightly earlier check in and a slightly later check out. Thank you! This lodge is a little pricier than some of the other hotels around here but you get what you pay for. We requested a room with a view of the river on Expedia and they honored that request. I loooooved the view from our balcony! My favorite part of our stay was just sitting out there enjoying the view and hearing the rush of the river while munching on some grub. I can highly recommend room 202. Bed was comfy. Sleeper sofa was fine although we could not figure out for the life of us how to put it back. It was a easy walk to the main street with all the shops and restaurants. We didn't get to enjoy the DVD collection or games available to borrow in the main office but I thought that was a nice touch. Nothing to complain about with breakfast. Enjoyed the hard boiled eggs they had available. At the end of our stay, what a pleasant surprise to be gifted with a photo of us on the chair with a picture frame! It was the cherry on top for our stay. Would definitely consider staying here again my next trip out to Rocky Mountain National Park.

This place was really cute! We stayed in a "family room" and had a California King, bunk beds and a pull out couch in one big room - it was fun! The best part was that we could see elk right from our windows across the street. We were only there for one night so we didn't get to check out the pool or the other amenities, but they did have board games and DVDs in the lobby to borrow. There was hot and cold continental breakfast. I would stay here again if I visited Estes Park.

Ask the Community - Murphy's River Lodge

Do all rooms come with a full kitchen and fireplace? I was considering upper river condos on groupon.

All of our rooms have a mini frige, coffee pot and microwave. Only our Lower River Condos have a fully stocked kitchen with an oven/stove top and full size refrigerator.

The rooms have a rustic cabin ambiance and the only furniture I missed was having a desk to work on. I also wish the blackout curtains worked, and plenty of street light came through the thin curtains, but we managed to sleep despite that (I would have clipped a blanket over the window if needed). The staff were mostly friendly. The complimentary continental breakfast is mostly cold foods (bagels, cereal, boiled eggs, etc.). They did run out of peanut butter, which was sad. The rooms were clean and comfortable and the proximity to the main shopping area is great. Parking is very cramped and when fully booked you may have to use overflow parking across the street. There is no elevator so if you're on the upper floors you'll have to haul your luggage up steps.

It was a perfect setup for us our room had a lovely view of the river you could listen to all night, our daughter was in the other upstairs bedroom and our teenage son had a fold out couch all to himself downstairs. I attended a family wedding here and stayed for two days. While the property itself is beautiful,…read moreit is abysmally run. There is an absolutely ridiculous number of rules surrounding weddings and events here, to the point that they became intrusive rather than reasonable. We were refused permission to put stakes in the ground for a pavilion. The venue also required a specific bartending service that, in our experience, served noticeably watered-down drinks, refused to allow shots in an apparent effort to keep guests from getting drunk, and, frankly, made awful drinks on top of it. One of the final issues came at the end of the wedding. We were already forced to end the event at 10:00 PM, and less than fifteen minutes later, while several guests were still simply trying to arrange rides back to their hotels, the property owner was already harassing and pressuring them to leave. There is a difference between maintaining reasonable rules for your property and exercising an excessive degree of control over a wedding and its guests. Unfortunately, this consistently felt like the latter. Overall, it is a genuinely lovely location, but it is overshadowed by an absolutely tyrannical property owner who desperately needs to rein in her sense of control. Rather than simply being the person who provided the venue, her behavior became an unfortunate and lasting memory for several members of our family who attended the wedding. That should never be one of the things guests remember most about someone's wedding. It's clear her goal is clearly to make as much profit with the least amount of hassle or effort possible. Highly recommend going elsewhere for your wedding.

The hotel was under heavy construction during our visit, so we were not able to enjoy the full beauty and atmosphere of the property. The townhouse itself also looked dated and could use some updating. The main air-conditioning system was not working. A portable air conditioner had been placed inside, but it was not large enough to cool an open, two-story townhouse. The unit became especially hot and uncomfortable in the evenings. The first-floor primary bedroom also had some issues. The furniture did not fit the room very well, there was no television, there was only one nightstand, and electrical outlets were limited. The hot tub cover was completely ripped up and in very poor condition, which added to the overall feeling that the property needed more maintenance and attention. There were positive things about the stay--the townhouse was clean, spacious and generally nice--but for the price and reputation of The Stanley Hotel, we expected the accommodations to be better maintained and more updated.

There was a dining room with 6 chairs. There were 2 1/2 bathrooms (as in two had shower/baths and one had a sink and a toilet) and there was a washer/dryer that continually did laundry. In the living room there was a desk, a tv, a fireplace, a sofa and an armchair. All of the before mentioned were comfortable and modern. In the back of the condo was a large deck with plenty of chairs around a patio table. We could see the river and we spotted a couple of elk while we were out on the patio. The hot tubs were a great outdoor feature as well, they worked great and were fantastic on sore muscles after a long day of hiking. Our only issue was that the bathrooms smelled like rotten eggs or cheese or something from the moment we arrived to the day we left. And it wasn't us.
