We stayed during the moderately-high season of fall color and the elk rut. It was a last-minute decision to do a day trip that turned into an overnight. CC was one of the few who still had vacancy. Now we know why. While I don't know what type of low-grade accommodations the high reviewers are accustomed to, as a very frequent traveler, I do know that this place does not deserve anything higher than 3 stars. Pros: very simple, homey old-timey cottages that hearken back to a 1940's grandma's house. Central location right outside one of RMNP's entrances. Nice touches with working fireplaces, 1 free bundle of firewood, variety of games and dvds to choose from, and fairly ample kitchenette offerings including a mini-stove, full sink and place settings. Restaurant choices across the street. Cons: this place is TIRED. Everything is run-down and dingey from the raggedy bedspreads to the broken kitchenette drawers, to the shower handle that fell off when we went to turn it on. Outside lawn chairs were moldy and crusty - uninviting. Curtains were dusty with gnats stuck to them. The children's mini-playground area - which could've otherwise been such a nice touch - was littered with dog poo and other debris from apparently months of neglect. If the rental charge were more appropriate for this low-level of accommodation, like $75-$100, I might give more stars. But $200? Uh no. read more

We stayed here a month or so ago but didn't get around to this review until now. This was our second time staying here. The first time was 20 years ago and we loved it back then which is why we decided to go back. In the past I'd have given it 4 or even 5 stars. However.... Pros are the great location close to so many amenities such as restaurants and stores, very quaint appearance, dogs allowed, wood burning fireplace, parking right outside your unit's door, easy self check-in, and how quiet it is even though it's off a fairly busy street. This place has tons of potential. Cons are a general lack of maintenance including a broken bar in the sleeper sofa that didn't support any weight and collapsed, unusable very disgusting cooking pans, dirty oven, and a general lack of cleanliness. For example under the chair cushions were years of dust and a variety of objects like socks, loose change, hair ties, etc. Tons of dirt under the sofa and bed, the fireplace glass screen was so dirty you couldn't see the fire so we cleaned it ourselves, all the dishes were filthy, lots of loose hair in the bathroom, etc. You get the idea. Housekeeping leaves a lot to be desired. We love rustic but these cottages cross the line into decrepit compared to other places we've stayed. They are in need of some refurbishment and replacement of furniture and household items. read more

I have been completely charmed by this place. I'm writing this review while looking at the Rockies from my desk in Timberline, which was built in 1915 - the same year RMNP was established! As if that wasn't cool enough, this little cabin is full of charm and convenience. Yes, there's cable TV and free WiFi and a kitchenette, but there's also a view of the Rockies, a wood burning fire place (only $5 for extra bundles of wood) and a coziness that can only be described as hygge. When I was on my way to checking in MUCH later than planned, Mark called to check on me to make sure I was ok and walk me through the process to get my keys. It set the tone for this being a much more kind and caring experience than your typical hotel/motel stay. And with COVID, this is a perfect situation to be distant from others but still be away from home. The location is perfect. You're walking distance to a grocery store, Scratch Deli (amazing!), Wayfinder Restaurant (I've already been for breakfast and dinner - SO GOOD!), and Bird and Jim's across the street (on my list to go ASAP!). The Beaver Meadows entrance to RMNP is maybe 10 minutes away. Is everything perfect? Of course not. It could use a good dusting. And the shower is tiny, but what could I expect from 1915 construction?! :-) I'm willing to make it work. And each cottage has its own layout, so next time (and there will be a next time), I will try a different cottage. Definitely give this place a try, you will not regret it. read more

I am utterly shocked by all the positive reviews for this place. This place is absolutely atrocious. I stayed there in cottage 6 and it was awful. There was no centralized air conditioner and all I had were a few fans. The decor tried to look rustic and homey, when in reality it was much more unfinished looking. Like an old ledge in the middle of renovation. There are two Internet sources. The first one is a crapshoot that doesn't work and the second one only works when it feels like it. Such as it can work for the first few minutes, then stop for an hour. Then work again for 30 minutes. And then not work again for three hours. The Internet is a complete joke. The conditions of the room itself is a complete joke as well. Flying insects make themselves right at home as they crawl all over the wall, on the ceiling, in the bathroom, in the kitchen, and flying all around the lights. There were dead gnats lying in the 'clean fresh' towel that was in the bathroom when I first got there. It's disgusting. I'll leave a pictures of the conditions at the bottom. If your stuck with either lodging at this place or sleeping outside. SLEEP OUTSIDE. read more

This place is awesome! I visted last week. Location: Located in Estes Park, very nice small town before the Rocky National Park. Ownership: Mark and Natasha were super friendly! Once i placed my order through expedia, I got an email right away from them, thanking me for my purchase and providing personal information that I sent them. Cottages: I stayed 2 nights. First night was in Iris. It was really window and making alot of noise hitting the cottage. I asked Mark the next day for any other rooms available and he left me choose between 2 cottages for only an extra $12! The 2nd night I moved into Indian reserve (?). Cottages were like Tiny homes, came with everything! They even had mini fridge, tv (cable), microwave, plates, cups, utensils. Along with fire wood. Amentities: They have free dvds, board games to play, hot tub, swing set. I definitely will be staying here again when I come back to do more hikes. Any questions feel free to ask. If you are looking to stay in Estes Park the non traditional way of a motel or hotel, come check out the Colorado Cottages. This property has individual cottages that have all you need and feels likes home. I stood at the Iris cottage. It is roughly 240 sq feet. It is cozy. Has a fireplace (they give you a bundle of free wood and newspaper). A little kitchenette with a hot plate. Dishes, cups, silverware, toaster, small fridge, coffee pot and microwave are all included. The cabin is not out of date at all. The bathroom has a heater in it so your bum isn't cold when you use the toilet. This cottage has a deep tub if you enjoy taking baths. The water pressure and shower head is the best. Enough hot water for 2 people to enjoy a bath/shower. The owners live on site and they are always available and quick to respond to any questions you may have. They do have a little office that has movies you can rent and board games you can take back to your cottage. They have bundles of wood on site for $5.00 if you need to buy more. I went through 3 bundles for 2 nights for President's Day weekend. There is a hot tub that is open till 10pm outside. I decided not to since it was a bit chilly and didn't want to risk getting sick. The location is off a street so you can hear the cars pass by but there isn't much traffic. There are restaurants and stores nearby that is walking distance. Free wifi, cable. The only thing I will mention that is not necessarily a bad thing but to be mindful of is that since this cottage is toward the street and does now have any buildings around it, it can make for loud evenings if it is windy out. Sunday evening, the winds in Estes Park were roughly 16 mph and it was loud. Other than that.. I will most likely stay at these cottages again. I came across Colorado Cottages through Trip Advisor. There were endless positive reviews so we decided to give them a try. We stayed in the Iris Cottage for a week during our honeymoon in Estes Park. It's only about a mile outside of Rocky Mountain National Park and a short drive to downtown Estes Park. The cottages are owned by a very nice couple and their adorable dog. They live on site and are extremely friendly. They were really nice and always around to help you with anything you need. My mom told them we were on our honeymoon, so they gave us an extra bundle of fire wood and a gift basket upon arrival. The cottage is small but cute and very well maintained. It was just the right size for the two of us. We loved the fireplace. The elk are very active this time of year so we got some amazing views of elk outside our window. They come up to the cottage and snack on the bushes right outside the window. It was a great place to stay and was affordable. Definitely recommend! read more

I stayed in the Hummingbird and I'm glad I chose that one because I like how everything was set up. Nice, comfy, and cozy! Love the old homey feeling these cabins have and I like the decor. I like the white drapes on the windows because it's bright during the day. These cabins have all the basic essentials you need. Absolutely phenomenal. My friend and I stumbled upon this place as well as Bird and Jim, the restaurant not ten feet away from the cottages, while moving me and all my stuff cross country. Our stay here was entirely enchanting, the cabins are very nicely furnished and extremely homey. The view of the mountains is indescribable. The fireplaces are a great touch, as well as the fully stocked kitchen. The restaurant and our cottage were exactly what we needed after traveling 1500 miles and we are so great full for the amazing experience we had here Ps- two HUGE elks right outside our cabin when we woke up!!! read more

I had a reservation at Colorado Cottages. When I drove in, it looked like a run down place. I went inside my cottage which was extremely hot (and there was no air conditioning). I opened a window which wouldn't lift straight and found dirt in the track. I turned around and saw a mouse going across the floor. There is no way I would stay in a dirty place with mice. I called the manager and she had to call me back. I told her I wanted a full refund because I couldn't stay in a place like that. I never would have reserved that cottage if I had any idea it had mice. So far, all I see on my credit card statement is the second half of the charge posted. How could any place charge almost $200 a night for a dump like that? I think this is a health department violation. read more

This place was so at peace it felt like you were at home that's how comfortable we were. Everything is around the corner don't really have to drive far. Rocky Mountain national park is down the street from here and these cottages have the best view to the Rockies. Our second day here it snowed and it was so beautiful and we got to see elk right outside of our cottage.. The owners were so nice! I went here with Abby W for her birthday/Xmas. As you can see in her review, the place was great. The owners are friendly, the prices are reasonable, and the decor is rustic but well taken care of. The fireplace is an excellent touch, just be sure to ask for the fire gooze otherwise it's a little tricky to get started. Even in the smallest room (ours was like 200 square feet) you don't feel cramped or poor. It's a classy small cabin. We plan on returning many times over the years. I think in the fall you have an excellent view of elk eating the bushes surrounding the property. It's a nice place to visit, if you stay in Estes Park I'd definitely recommend Colorado Cottages. read more

I found Colorado Cottages online and since it was late, I emailed the owners to request reservations on the Iris cabin for my birthday and Christmas eve. I called the next day because I was so excited about booking the cabin and they knew who I was from my email! Owners are VERY helpful with any questions. You get one bundle of wood with the room and each additional bundle is $3. Check-in and check-out were very easy, smooth and efficient. We had an amazing time, staying the two nights in a cozy 200 sq. ft. cottage. The Iris has an incredible view from every room (even the bathroom!). Decent bed, adorable fireplace and everything is so well-kept! We're definitely coming back!! read more

Came here after a business trip to Denver where we stayed in a less than optimal chain hotel. This was such a welcome change. We loved our duplex cabin. The owners (and their dog) were the perfect amount of welcoming and friendly. We had just the right amount of space, a little kitchen and a nice bathroom. Our only disappointment was self-induced: we were at RMNP so late we never got around to lighting our complimentary fire. We were happy to support this great little business. read more

UPDATE: We've stayed here for 3 consecutive years from my original review below. While this property has changed ownership 3 times, the service remains consistent. The newest owners are very nice, keep a low profile but are very responsive if you need them. I stayed at Colorado Cottages with my wife and 4 yo son during the Highland Festival. It was very affordable and the accomodations were better than expected. I can't say enough about how nice the owners are and they even remembered my son's name. My son didn't want to leave. They had all the conveniences needed i.e., microwave, full size coffee maker, stove/oven(small but still cooks food), refrigerator, flat screen TV, dvd player(and a great selection of dvd's you can borrow for free from the office), they even had a hair dryer in the bathroom for my wife. The dvd's are loaned on the honor system. Who does that? I love this place, They have pack an plays for children so you don't have to bring your own. Every cottage has it's own charcoal BBQ. If you need a lot of ice you may want to bring a bag of your own and stick it in the freezer(not at all a big deal, just a helpful tip). A free bundle of wood is provided and if you need extra it's only $3/bundle which is very reasonable. We had two fires and didn't need more that what was provided. We stayed in "chikadee" and the inside of the cabin has knotty pine on the walls and beams across the ceiling. They main room is your family room, breakfast room, and kitchen. The couch is a futon and my son slept on that. The master bedroom is an add on and is separate from the main room. The bathroom is tiny but it was not at all something that would detract me from this place and these nice people. There is a hot tub but we didn't use it. The hot tub is next to the small play ground which has a two seater swing set that my son constantly wanted to play on. The free shuttle, into town/RMNP, stops across the street in a convenience store parking. The free wifi was great but the signal was weak in our cabin. My family loved this place and will book here first whenever we stay in the area. read more

I went to Colorado Cottages at the beginning of May with 6 other friends to hike around Estes Park. We had 2 cottages. They are cute, comfortable, equipped, and easy access. They are right off one of the main roads. 5 minutes from downtown estes park and 10 minutes from Rocky Mountain National Park entrance. The new owners are super friendly and run their business very professionally. They are always available, and they even bought us games and s'mores stuff for the days that snowed and we couldn't hike. We stayed for 6 nights. We used the hot tub while it was snowing (awesome!), used the fire pit, had access to a whole library of games, books, and movies, for entertainment. You can see wildlife right outside the cottages, and the Sunrises are amazing! I recommend this place 100%. It is very affordable and secluded. You can really feel the peace in this place! also, make sure to check out the Scratch place next door for some amazing fresh cinnamon rolls and breakfast. read more

These cottages are a gem that's nestled in the Rocky Mountains! The owners of these cabins were SO nice and welcoming! Oh and don't be deceived by the exterior of the cottages, the cottages were quite roomy and cozy. In addition to the warm welcoming, the location is perfect as well. We stayed at Colorado Cottages for three nights in August of 2016. Great location and a great value for the price. The cottage was well equipped and comfortable, and we really enjoyed a nice soak in the hot tub after long days of hiking. We didn't meet the owners but checking in and out was very easy and they made it clear they were just a phone call away. The only tiny negative was our cottage could've used a bit of a dusting, probably thanks to the stove! My traveling companion is allergic and was slightly unhappy with the amount of dust. Stayed in Chickadee for my husband and I's 16th Anniversary. We Honeymooned in Estes 16 years ago but the 1st place we stayed does not exist anymore. Found this place online and reviews were good so decided to stay here 2 nights. Our 9 year old was thrilled and loved everything about the place. We loved the cozy feeling and the owner was extremely friendly. He made sure we were comfortable and had what we needed. Our daughter loved the hot tub but was a little chilly outside for us in mid September. Right across the street from a little grocery store we bought food to make dinner on the charcoal grill the first night. Loved it! They had all of the basics and a fridge in the room. Gorgeous view from the futon or the bed. They had games and books and puzzles to borrow, we played a few. "Worlds smallest bathroom" for sure but still cozy. :) made a fire the last night and was the best time. Would totally stay again!! read more
