First the good: They have great communication and check-in and check-out process is very smooth. For families, this is a great place to stay. They have adjoining rooms and those are newer and in a more quiet area of the property. Their continental breakfast is pretty good. They have free movie popcorn and DVD rentals. They also have a pool and hot tub but we have never used them. They also have a small playground. Again, it's great for families. We have been to Murphy's with kids/teens a few times and it's been pretty good. Close to gear rental (Estes Park Mountain Shop) and close to the main grocery store: Safeway. Also close to McDonald's, Starbucks, Subway and Jimmy John's. Also near the Estes Park Visitors Center. Further from RMNP (about 25-30 minutes) The bad: I decided to book this place for an Anniversary and that was a huge mistake. First, I booked through their website instead of Booking.com since that is better for their business.. I put in the special instructions that we wanted their best King Room for our anniversary. Rates were high despite it being a slow weekend and on booking.com they had lots of open king rooms. We ended up in one of their older rooms which faced the main road. Bathroom sink didn't drain, found hair on the sink. After flushing toilet, it would continue to run. The bed was too soft and hurt our backs. The back of our place faced a busy road. Lots of noise between the walls with the neighbors next door and kids running and screaming outside. Also, their internet was sooo SLOW. If you are coming here to do any work, forget it. We had terrible service most of the time. Wasn't able to use any apps like Netflix, Disney + etc. Pretty old school TV's. For the price we paid, it wasn't worthy of the rate and I wished we had gone somewhere else for a great couple experience. Loved our greeter! The grounds were kept up and clean. When you check in you are given keys that you turn back in. Our room (king bed) was very clean & spacious. The bed was very comfortable and towel were not rough. I believe they offered a Continental breakfast. This was a great one night stay for us. I discovered this spot from an Internet search and the prices were on the lower end for hotels with decent reviews, so I went with Murphy's Resort. Rooms 4/5: I stayed in a basic king-bed room, which was clean, had plenty of towels for the 2 of us, and basic necessities. Room is clearly older with some wood paneling around door frames with brown staining that were not dirty nor falling apart, but appeared unsettling. Location 5/5: Estes Park is a small city, and Murphy's Resort was easy to get to. Very close to Rocky Mountain NP. There was night time construction when we were there that caused short delays to and from dinner (9/10/24). Walking distance to the nearby lake with a paved trail around the lake. However, we had to cross through the next door cabin rentals to access. Amenities 5/5: Lots of freebies as noted by other reviewers. We were not interested in them as we did not have the time, but they were offered to us at check-in. Fire pits and lots of propane grills around the property too (again, did not use or verify if they were operational), and working hot top (verified they were open and indeed hot). Service 4/5: Friendly service and very proactive - they called when I made the booking and texted me the day of check-in and offered to let me check-in early once my room was cleaned. Free breakfast is limited in options - hard boiled eggs, yogurt, bagels w/ peanut butter, jelly, and cream cheese, granola bars, bananas, and muffins. My daughter and I stayed here for a few nights a couple months ago and this place was great! I wanted to find a good, clean hotel with a pool, (my daughter's only request for the trip), and I came upon this place when searching on the internet. The room was really clean and updated. The pool was great and they also have an indoor hot tub, which was fun. The employees were all super nice and helpful as well. I locked my keys inside our room and they were totally cool about it and gave me an extra key. They also have a ton of DVD movies to borrow and a lot of board games. This place is made for families! Hot tip, they have lifetime membership passes to the Mustang Mountain Coaster down the road that you can use for two hours at a time. That saved us SO MUCH money as my daughter and I road the coaster about 8 times a piece, which normally costs $210 for 9 rides. We traveled to Estes Park from Los Angeles for a wedding and this resort was on the list of recommended places to stay. It turned out to be a real find! The rates are reasonable and the room is huge. There is a very nice small refrigerator and microwave and coffee maker, a very comfortable couch, an indoor table and chairs as well as a table and chair set in front of the unit. The weather and the views were great so we had our lunch outside and we surprised to see two huge elk munching and napping on the lawn on the property in front of us! We went through the National Park and didn't see any! It's an older resort so if you want brand new this property won't work for you but if you like homey comfort this is the place. Stayed in Estes Park for two nights in October with my mom. Murphy's resort is such a welcoming, safe place to enjoy the crisp fall weather, elk, and the amenities offered. Close to downtown, the lake and the Stanley hotel. Simple continental breakfast, but it gets the day started. Resort was able to easily accommodate for late arrival and made checking in after hours a breeze. Owners and staff and extremely friendly and accommodating. Elk grazed at dusk on the property. Babies were still nursing in late October. Was an absolute sight to see. Could use some updates in the rooms, but given the history of Estes Park, this was honestly not even that big of a deal and loved the more homey-spacious rooms. read more

Overall this is a quaint little hotel which meets your needs and has everything you would need for a couple of days stay here in Estes Park. Due to a recent outbreak of Covid in Larimer County there was minimal to no housekeeping services which is totally understandable. But we had more than what we needed and supplies were readily available. The prices were really good and the hotel has dog friendly rooms. We had frequent visitors (mule deer) every evening which added a positive to our stay. The location is just far enough from the main drag that the noise level and traffic are minimal. read more

I kept getting text messages as we drove to Estes Park. One was a form to fill out in advance, which I did. Another said to let them know when we arrived and they would try to get us in early and would text us as soon as the room was ready. I texted when we arrived into town about 12:30, said we were there, thanked them, and said we'd love to drop of our stuff and change our clothes as we had dressed much too warm for the 80+ degree weather we were not expecting. They never texted back again. First disappointment. Don't bother telling guests to text when we get to town if you don't have a chance of getting us in early. Room was rustic, but OK. Breakfast was a huge disappointment. I guess we've just been used to the usual fare of scrambled eggs and sausage or bacon and/or pancake or waffel machines. There was no hot food, no orange juice. And since I don't drink coffee, I wanted a milk to drink with the packaged mini-donuts, but they didn't have that either. I asked what the kids put on their cereal, and realized they don't offer that either. So I would recommend stopping at the grocery store and stocking the refrigerator (ours was not used, but full size) or go out for breakfast! read more

We were here 2 years ago without a child and really liked it and I gave it 4 stars primarily because water pressure in shower was so low (300 block). This year we brought a child and stayed in the 100 block and water pressure was fine. This resort is very family friendly. There are 2 playgrounds, a huge area for group BBQ, horseshoes, shuffleboard, swing set, climbing, jenga, and soccer. Plus a pavilion with nightly live music, a talented guy who plays light rock. And a couple of fire pits where you can make s'mores (they sell complete kits in the office). They have free dvds and games. Basically, they make it easy to have a great time. The rooms are spacious and the beds are comfortable. Plenty of towels and pillows. I highly recommend this place and we will return again for sure. read more

Great stay! The extras/complimentary things like the movies, yard games, laundry room, and live music on certain evenings were awesome. It's location was perfect. And just... They had copies of The Shining! Like what. It was such a fun memory for our trip to watch the movie before we went on our ghost tour at the Stanley Hotel, which was right up the road. They also had a few seasons of This Is Us, which was perfect since my husband was on a work trip and I could watch some when I had some down time. Dog friendly- the dog area felt a little out of place, but did it's job. We did take some walks down to the park nearby, which was great! We also ordered a pizza from Antonio's next door, made a trip to the shops up the road, and just loved that we had a roomy hotel room that could accommodate for our dog and his kennel. They also had a complimentary breakfast that was good, had a few breakfast basics. We'd stay here again, 100%. Nothing incredibly fancy. Staff was super sweet. *GREAT Steak house & bar next door! (They close at 9pm) * Easy trip into downtown Estes to multiple restaurants & shops 1-2 Stars for: The rooms. They need some updating. *They claimed service every other day, but in our mandatory 3-night stay, our room was never cleaned. *We had a kitchenette with glasses, coffee maker (Folgers coffee) & sink & microwave, but no dishes, silverware, or wine opener. The floors were laminate & seemed dirty. (Bring house shoes or slippers). *Our room had a gel fire place available for use which was supposed to have complimentary for the first use. (We would have to gone to the front desk to ask for the gel canister) *we actually had 2 TV's in our room (1- on each side of the fireplace) but only direct TV- no TV App service available. *Internet was a 3.5/5. We spent one night here this past weekend and had a lovely time. The staff was friendly and the amenities were plentiful, and that's in the winter. They have many DVDs to check out, free popcorn, Directv and an indoor hot tub in the winter. In the summer they have a pool. Our room was a basic 2 queen and had a coffee maker, microwave, fridge, iron, safe and hair dryer. The hotel is not what some would call up to date, but that gives it its charming rustic feel. The beds were comfortable and shower pressure was just fine They had a nice continental breakfast of muffin, bagel, oatmeal, coffee, juice and fruit which was just right. Murphy's Resort has some of the best winter rates around. There is no minimum stay, the rooms are clean and updated, the breakfast is warm and fresh, and the front desk staff is very friendly including Stella, the Poodle. We stayed in Room 306 which had a beautiful view of Long's Peak and it was fun to have cocktails in the room and watch the sunset. These rooms will be losing most of their views as the resort behind is building large cabins down to the lake. If you stay in the back be careful of ice. It just builds up during the day when the snow melts off the roof. Otherwise, the whole property was clean and organized. And for dinner, you are next door to Hunter's Chophouse. Perfect location for those who want to sample bourbons. read more

We LOVED our stay here! It's off the beaten path of Estes but sandwiched between several other hotels. We went with our dog, which adds a small charge. Rates were affordable. The room was quite large and fairly modern. The fridge was larger than most hotels. The bed was very comfortable. Wifi was sketchy the first night, but seemed fine after that for surfing (but probably not streaming video). There is a liquor store right next door which is convenient. Heat was electric baseboard heating but was fine. Shower was hot. Lighting in the room was excellent. The hotel is close to but not right on the lake, so most units do not have a view of the lake. The layout is a motel. I saw some negative comments about the continental breakfast. For a continental, the breakfast was excellent. Bagels, muffins, toast, cereals, juices and good coffee. The room is very nice too. They even had soy milk, which my vegan wife really appreciated. About the only suggestions I have are more shelving space for storage in the closet and bathroom vanity area, and better curtains on the rear windows. People walk their dogs behind the building, and without the sheer white curtains they have on the front, people can look directly into the room, so you have to use the blackout curtains for privacy. We will almost certainly return, and well worth the price. read more

Murphy's Lodge is fantastic! While the outside appearance does not do it much justice, once you enter the room, you will forget all about what the outside looks like. The rooms are completely renovated with hardwood floors and carpetting around the bed, a separate bath and toilet area from the rest of the bathroom so you can get ready in peace or use the toilet in peace if you happen to be traveling with someone. There is a small livingroom area with a full-sized couch and a coffee table, a desk and some extra storage for all your belongings should you feel the need for them. The room was prestine upon arrival but smelled oddly of some pain cream but that could be the last occupants. It wasn't really bothersome. Free board games and DVDs during your stay! They also have a pool (closed during my visit since it had snowed recently and still in the 50s) and a hot tub. The stay comes with a continental breakfast which was OK. The next day, we decided to check out a local breakfast restaurant/bakery mostly because I can only take so much sweets for breakfast. And on that note, yes they were mostly cereals, muffins, danishes and fruits being served. The coffee was pretty acceptable though. Overall, yes I would stay here again and if you ever find yourself in Estes Park, CO I recommend you give this place a chance! read more

FREE BREAKFAST! A playground for the kids and a small room with two beds, a couch and a tv! You use the restroom like the moose. just kidding! This place has free movie rentals, just ask the front lobby! I also noticed they have a small shop within the lobby that sells necessity things such as female hygienic products, chargers/chords, oxygen etc., It was pretty comfortable and a wonderful stay. Down the road is Murphy's River Lodge that has a pool, and a hot tub and a bigger version of Murphy's Resort. Judging by the name, they are partners and this is the smaller version of that. When we checked out, the room was pretty easy to keep clean, and we returned our free movie rentals. The free breakfast was more than just oatmeal and fruit; but hash browns and scrambled eggs. I loved how the other guests were interacting with one another and everyone seemed to be friendly and strike up conversation. I really enjoyed our stay here. read more

I am very displeased with how Murphy's Resort handled an inconvenience to their customers. As you can see in the pictures attached, we returned to our room to find it flooding. The water was a disgusting color and smell and we had to pack up all of our belongings (some wet) within minutes. We rushed over to the front desk and asked if they had any available rooms and what their plan of action was. They said they didn't and they would just call us when our room was dry.... I for sure wasn't going to stay in that same room because of potential health risks from the vile water that filled the entire room. I'm sure it was a frantic day for Murphy's Resort, but their employees and manager did not seem to have any compassion or concern for the well being of their residents that paid money to stay there over the many other options in beautiful Estes Park. It was a night where you can come and receive one drink and paint a picture with their artist teaching you how. They provide all the needed supplies and you provide the imagination. There was also live music during the evening. This was a really fun night that was great to spend with your significant other. It was nice and relaxing plus fun. We just finished a four day reunion at the resort. Every one had a good time with the pool, hot tube, and outdoor games, videos and all the popcorn that you could eat. The breakfast was fine nothing special but still good. The woman in the breakfast room was very accommodating. I am sorry that I don't remember her name. If something ran out it was soon replaced mostly with our group, coffee. The rooms are very clean and comfortable. We had over 100 people attending. Jenna and her husband were right on top of everything. The bus to town was not far from the place. If I am ever in that area I will definitely stay there. read more

Murphy's resort is definitely a great bang for your buck! We stayed for 3 nights as we hiked in Rocky Mountain National Park. We loved the proximity to the park entrance and were impressed with the cleanliness of the rooms. The staff is super friendly and accommodated us very well. When we arrived for check-in past midnight, they communicated clear instructions to receive our key and check-in went very smoothly. Overall, we were very happy with our stay. We had the unfortunate experience of another hotel and were in a last minute bind to find somewhere to get ready for a wedding within the hour. We also had our pup with us.
