A staff member at a great local restaurant highly recommended Hidden Hearth for the best baked goods in Tucson. Located in an ultra modern container park in West Tucson, we followed the line of people walking around with loaves of breads and pasteries. A small cubicle that was singularly staffed had a long line out the door. A counter with a glass display showcases all possible baked goods available for purchase. There are many enticing choices and plenty of banter from those who are frequent clients debating the best. The almond croissant and the lemon and olive fugasse sprinkled with sea salt were our choices today. Stop the press as we found the perfect almond croissant at Hidden Hearth. A light, airy, crispy and flaky croissant was stuffed with just enough almond pasta to satisfy, but left you wanting one more bite. The fogasse was chewy, a hint of lemon and nice ripe pitted olives hidden within. All the selections looked good and will require us to return. Hidden Hearth may be out of the way, but it is well worth the drive. A wide variety of choices will ensure that we will return. Tucson is called a city of gastronomy. Sometimes, I think that label raises expectations unreasonably high. And then, a place like Hidden Hearth says hello. I love bread but, honestly, great bread is rare. When I walked into Hidden Hearth last week and saw Danish bread, I was dubious. First, Danish bread is not typically available because it's labor intensive. Second, when I've had it elsewhere, it's usually a botched attempt. When I lived in LA, I'd drive to Solvang, the weirdly Danish town a good drive away. Obviously, they know how to make Danish bread. I'll say that I think Hidden Hearth does it as well. The flavorful density is spot on. Slather on some butter and it's breakfast or lunch. Fantastic! It doesn't stop there. The lemon olive fugasse is so addictive that I just about ate the entire thing in one sitting. I bought more items today and just biked them home. I'm expecting to be delighted with those, too. Everything is made from scratch. There are no shortcuts here and that's becoming so rare. Tucson punches above its weight in so many surprising and serendipitous ways. Hidden Hearth is one of the joys to be found. Look, Tucson has some truly dismal bakeries that have been on autopilot for years. However, if you live here or are just passing through, set your GPS to Hidden Hearth and dive into some loaves of truly the best bread anywhere. I was at the MSA and remembered this bakery, so I decided to give it a try. There was a small line, but the service handled by the owner was quick and efficient. I asked about the different kinds of croissants and decided on the matcha raspberry one. My croissant was delicious: crunchy, buttery, and not too sweet, with a nice touch of tartness from the raspberry. The ambiance was very charming, with beautiful classic rock melodies playing in the background. Prices are on the higher end, but the quality definitely justifies it. read more

I stopped in this morning for some Sunday morning pastries at 9:30, but they don't open until 10:00 - thank goodness the cashier was there early and let me buy some bread! I got a house loaf, some granola, and some French honey butter! I told him it was my first time here, and he threw in a baguette!! Sooo nice! The bread is delicious, and a bakery is a great addition to the Mercado! I do wish they opened earlier, our Tumamoc group gets here at around 8:00 and would love to have a croissant! This was such a cool find! We joined for an outdoor pilates event and passed this bread tent on our way out and decided to stop by and I'm super glad we did! They had a great selection of different sourdough breads, beautifully presented, along with a handful of what looked to be mostly croissant style pastries. The bread was delicious, a great texture with a nice exterior crust, the baguette was my favorite. I thought they were also very reasonable for artisan bread, a small baguette and regular loaf were $11. A definite add to our rotation! read more

So good! I picked up a huge loaf of their house bread for $11 and a HUGE almond croissant for $6.50. They had a table setup outside their shop on a Saturday with their offerings, not sure if this is the norm for how they sell or just the weekends. I've been known to never deny myself a sweet treat. I happened to be at the annex to grab a coffee and saw their stand set up outside the building, and it looked so good I had to indulge. I got a matcha twist priced at $7. It was huge, and I'll splurge for quality. Unfortunately, it wasn't as delicious as I was expecting. Whatever matcha flavor was overpowered by how burnt the outside was. I ate most of it because I hate wasting food, but I was pretty disappointed. Maybe it was just that batch? Hidden Hearth is a recent--and very welcome!--addition to the Annex. It's across from Westbound and, as of this writing, open Tue-Sat. Fresh, warm loaves nestle next to crisp pastries and jars of house-baked granola. Their loaves are mostly sourdough; the two we've tried both featured great texture, glutinous and slightly chewy without being stodgy, and with excellently crispy crusts. The granola is moistened by dried fruits and reasonably priced, too. Tucson obviously offers some terrific bread, and HH provides wonderful bread without the hit-or-miss popularity (...yet...) of some of the established bakeries. Check them out! read more

This is the best bakery so far in Tucson az my wife and I were very surprised to have found this amazing gem.We spend the best $73 with 1table loaf bread,1sea and seed,bread 2 demi baguette,1 pain du voisin bread with almonds apricots,2 almond croissants and a strawberry danish + tip. The person behind the table was very cordial we came home an try the danish and was very delicious. KUDOS TO THE OWNERS AND THE STAFF THAT WORKS THERE!!!!! I stopped by Hidden Hearth this morning, I am a new customer. They had an array of freshly baked breads and sweets set up on a table outside of the store. I picked the seeded sourdough and it does not disappoint. It's a 2.25 pound loaf with a large variety of seeds baked into it and it is some of the best sourdough bread I have ever had, really. This loaf 'should' last awhile since it's just me who eats it. When I go back for another loaf I will also pick up a loaf of apricot sourdough that looks like it was made just to be toasted. The bread has exceptional flavor, beautiful presentation, knowledgeable staff. Next trip will also include a stop at the coffee shop nearby for a cup of coffee and sit and enjoy the morning. read more
