If a shop can't explain what something might cost before you bring the car in, it gives the impression that the price will just be decided on the spot depending on the customer. That's not a great way to build trust with people who are already cautious about auto repair bills. What makes it more frustrating is that this wasn't some complicated or unusual job. I wasn't asking for a full diagnostic breakdown or anything unrealistic. I simply wanted a general idea of the cost so I could compare it with other local shops before committing to bringing the vehicle in. Instead, the response was basically "bring it in and we'll see." That approach puts all the risk on the customer. You take time out of your day to drive there, leave the car, and only then find out whether the price is reasonable or wildly inflated. Shops that operate this way make it difficult for customers to make informed decisions. Transparency is one of the most important parts of running a trustworthy mechanic shop. Clear communication about pricing, even if it's just an estimate, shows respect for the customer's time and budget. The price quoted for installation of a remanufactured transmission, parts and labor included, was very fair ($3,200). The man who owns the shop, Jim, is highly knowledgeable about MBZs, and promptly responds to calls and addresses concerns. The shop itself is well-stocked with all the needed parts, and programming of the transmission is done in-house, without need to send the vehicle to a dealership. I'm really impressed by Jim and the shop's operation. Quick turnaround on delivery of the vehicle, as promised. It now runs real tightly, the gears shifting smoothly. It drives like new.

I am a car dealer, and one of our customers brought a vehicle here for a pre-purchase inspection…read moretoday. The customer scheduled an appointment for 10:00 AM. I clearly informed them we could arrive at least 10:30, and the customer confirmed that was fine. However, when I arrived at 10:40, Mike told us that because we were "late," the inspection could not be done until the afternoon and would be finished sometime before 5 PM. I asked if a written inspection report would be provided, and Mike said it would require customer approval. I told him I would have the customer confirm this directly. Later in the day, I called to check on the status. Mike's wife answered and said he had stepped out for a test drive and would be back in about 15 minutes. She mentioned the vehicle had already been lifted and checked underneath, but she was unsure whether any further inspection would be performed. I asked if Mike could call me back to clarify. I never received a call. About an hour later, the customer called me and said the inspection was "done." According to the customer, Mike verbally mentioned two issues that I had already fully disclosed to the customer the day before. However, Mike also stated that the undercarriage rust was "very bad," using the word "worse," and went as far as telling the customer not to buy the vehicle. When I went to pick up the car, Mike was again not present. His wife told me he had stepped out once more. There was no written inspection report, and the customer also confirmed that no report was given to him either. When I asked about the report, Mike's wife said she did not know what inspection the customer had requested and therefore could not provide anything. This vehicle is a 2015 Lexus that previously spent time on the East Coast. Some surface rust is normal for a vehicle of this age and history. I personally inspected the undercarriage afterward, and the condition is well within normal range. It is absolutely not as severe as described using words like "worse," and certainly not a reason to advise a customer to walk away without documentation. In my opinion, the inspection lacked professionalism, transparency, and proper documentation. Exaggerated verbal statements without a written report are not acceptable, especially when influencing a customer's purchasing decision. I would not recommend this shop for pre-purchase inspections, particularly for dealers or serious buyers who expect clear communication and written reports.

I love the new location, too! It's so much better than the Colorado auto complex--this is open, airy, kinda art deco and has really good vibes in a neighborhood suited to their traffic. I bought a 2006 Aston Martin V8 Vantage. Having read about the car, upon taking delivery I…read moreimmediately wanted to install a high-performance Velocity AP brand lightweight flywheel, twin plate clutch, and ECU tune - so I called Velocity AP directly - Without hesitation, they recommended Pasadena Motor Cars, one of the only VAP partners within 250 miles of my house. In short, Pasadena Motor Cars WAY exceeded my expectation- they perfectly installed the flywheel, clutch kit, and did the ECU tune (big job). Further, my car had a check engine light problem that the previous owner's mechanics were not able to fix. Pasadena Motor Cars solved this quickly, carefully diagnosing without randomly replacing parts on a trial-and error-basis like other shops. They identified the exact certain non-OEM parts that were causing the problem and replaced them inexpensively. My car also had a shifting problem and Pasadena Motor Cars took a personal interest in researching the problem, and at their own expense, tried different transmission fluids and replacement parts to find the best combination that significantly improved this factory defect on first-year Vantages (early 2006). They replaced the trans fluid and a few linkage parts at a great value, and in the end greatly improved the stick shifting of the car. Also, my rear bumper insert by the license plate was loose, I was worried it would fall off. Based on the design, to get to the loose bolt, you have to take the bumper off! To my surprise, when I got my car back, it was fixed! They did this for me as a courtesy! Another example of their service: My left front headlight was about ¼" recessed- I asked them if they could just raise it. This turned out to be very significant! The previous owner had been emphatic that there was "no body work or paint work", but in the process of them raising the headlamp back to factory position, Pasadena Motor Cars identified that indeed, there had been bodywork on the front quarter panel ... This is why I would 100% recommend that if you are buying a luxury/high-performance car, you should take it to Pasadena Motor Cars for a pre-purchase inspection. I asked Pasadena Motorcars to do a lot of preventative work, including hood struts, install a fuel injector, replace ignition components, and install high-performance air filters. In conclusion, ALL the work they did was exceptional, and a year later, I have not had 1 single problem with the car, nor any dash light come on - since I picked my car up from them, it runs and sounds like a private jet. To top it off, I was very picky that they do not put any greasy treatments on the interior when they gave it a wash after service- when I picked up the car it was immaculate, and my favorite picture of the car is 3 weeks after their wash! As you can tell, I would not hesitate to recommend Pasadena Motor Cars. Give them the time required to do your car right, and you will be very satisfied.
