I had an engine leak, that I originally thought was a transmission leak, so I took my car to El Monte Transmission. They took a look at my car for free to identify the issue and they detected the leak to be coming from my engine and not my transmission. They showed me exactly what they were seeing, why they thought it was my engine and not my transmission, and offered to put a dye in my transmission fluid to ensure it was my engine and not my transmission. I drove my car for a week and took it back to double check, and sure enough it was my engine! Although they spent time and care on my car, they didn't charge me a single penny, even when I insisted to at least pay for the dye. They were able to refer me another mechanic to fix my engine leak and I was able to get my issue solved that same day. My 1995 Montero leaked all of its transmission fluid on the driveway. I called El Monte Transmission after another shop wouldn't answer the phone or return my VMs. In comparison, John picked up the phone immediately and was able to consult with me right away. At the shop, his crew quickly discovered a hole in the pressure line. John gave an estimate for the cost and a time that it would be completed. John called right on time and charged me 40% less than the original estimate. He said he couldn't charge me more than what the actual labor and parts cost, and I was shocked with his honesty. So far, so good at El Monte Transmission. I have much respect for John. Before our visit to El Monte Transmission, two local mechanics said it was an electronic issue which they were not equipped to diagnose or handle with their current work load. We took it to Sunrise Ford. Our only complaint was that we had intermittent lack of auto shifting while driving, though it could be managed manually with the gear shift. No leaks, no grinding or crunching noises at all. After keeping the work truck over two weeks, Sunrise rep said we needed a new transmission for $9369. Though they did not drop the pan "due to the labor and cost involved" they determined the oil was burned and there were metal shavings in the transmission. After the "burned oil and ground metal" 9369 comment from Sunrise, we wanted a second opinion and were referred to El Monte Transmission by a friend. We had heard about brake light sensor issues. We replaced that sensor for $19.99 + $95 labor. Sunrise never mentioned a $19.99 dollar part + labor. Only that we needed a $9369 transmission. We collected our Ford 550 from Sunrise and came home to install a brake light sensor to rule that out. Believing we had a fix, we kept our appointment with El Monte Transmission to cover all the bases. John said he would be happy to check it out while we waited and see what he could find. He drove the truck, opened the hood, checked the trans fluid, we found it was clear, there were no metal shavings anywhere, he hooked up his computer to run it through the sensors. Many had never been cleared after other work details performed (tires, oil etc). With our permission, he cleared the computer to give us a fresh look at everything. There were no codes indicating any failures, mechanical or otherwise. John spent nearly an hour on our truck and would not take any money. I am grateful for his calm and pleasant demeanor and attention to our concerns. He did not try to sell us anything. His belief was that the transmission is not a problem and that the brake light sensor may well have been the culprit. This is a tree truck that tows a chipper. Three weeks and 16 jobs later, the truck is running beautifully with zero shifting failures. This place is awesome. I am a little late in writing my review, sorry. Worth 5+ stars if possible. These guys went above and beyond for me. I brought in my 1977 Chevy K5 Blazer for a transmission rebuild (700r4). I also asked if these could install a temperature sensor in my transmission pan for me. This would be more of a "custom" job as they would have to drill and tap the pan. I also asked if they could install my twin-stick kit for my transfer case since it would be out of the truck during the transmission rebuild. I could have done both of these jobs myself, but it was convenient for me to have them do it as the transmission work was being done. So I would have know if they messed anything up doing my requests extra things. They did the additional requests professionally and it was a prefect job. I have total confidence in this shop and have no issue telling all my friends and family to go there. read more

Went here on good recommendations, but pretty disappointed in their professionality and quality of work. My transmission was removed from my truck twice, and they damaged / destroyed the pin connector on the transmission and blamed it on the connection being old. It was obviously left connected while it was dropped from the truck. It's disappointing that they did not offer to replace or repair it. I'll be writing something with the BBB and hope they don't do this to other folks. Posting this to every outlet possible. They might be decent at rebuilding transmissions, but if they can't fix simple things they break, I wonder what else they do within the transmissions that they will try to avoid responsibility for. Needed a new clutch for my 09 civic si. They were very helpful and were able to the job in a timely manner at a reasonable price. They also helped me install a new k tuned cmc and slave cylinder. Just hit 500 miles on the new clutch and started shifting aggressively through 1st and 2nd at 8k+ rpms and it's biting and handling it like a champ. Safe to say they did a great job. Honest! He showed me the codes that I was already aware of and was able to give me an honest turn around time even if it was gonna take longer than expected due to the holidays. He also showed me the parts that were taken out of my truck. Which I also know at least belonged to a 2005 f150 because I have replaced that particular part about 10 years ago. I also over heard conversation he was having over the phone with customers as I was waiting. Telling them that he could fix their issues with thier vehicles but could not do in the time that they were requesting.
