I highly recommend El Monte Transmission! I brought my Camaro here after dealing with transmission issues and getting different opinions about what needed to be repaired. From the beginning, John, the owner, and his son Jonathan were honest, knowledgeable, and straightforward with me. What I appreciated most was that they took the time to properly look into the problem instead of immediately telling me I needed the most expensive repair. They explained everything in a way that was easy to understand, kept me informed throughout the process, and got my Camaro repaired and back on the road. John and Jonathan genuinely seem to care about their customers and doing the job right. After all the stress I had been dealing with trying to get my car fixed, it was a huge relief finding a transmission shop I could trust. Great customer service, honest people, and quality work. I'll definitely be coming back to El Monte Transmission for any future transmission needs. Thank you John, Jonathan, and the whole team! Highly recommend! read more

I brought my car in for a diagnostic because it was slipping and jerking while driving. John took a look at it and called me about an hour later. He explained that the transmission was having trouble shifting into third gear and would eventually need to be rebuilt. He also provided an estimate for the repair. Since the car is older, I decided not to invest additional money in rebuilding the transmission. Even though I chose not to proceed with the service, John still took the time to explain my options and recommend what I should do next. He went above and beyond, especially considering that the diagnostic was free. I truly appreciate John's honesty, helpful recommendations, and excellent customer service. I highly recommend him. read more

I should've left this review in January immediately after my service was completed but here I am today. I have to say that my experience was awesome. John & his team are professional, and very honest, & took the time to explain exactly what was going on with my Jeep's transmission. The repair was done by the exact day they promised, & my beloved Jeep is running smoother than ever (it's 23 years old btw) Pricing was extremely fair & I loved their solid workmanship, you can tell they take pride in what they do. I'll definitely recommend them to anyone and everyone who needs transmission work! Thank you guys!!! read more

I had an engine leak, that I originally thought was a transmission leak, so I took my car to El Monte Transmission. They took a look at my car for free to identify the issue and they detected the leak to be coming from my engine and not my transmission. They showed me exactly what they were seeing, why they thought it was my engine and not my transmission, and offered to put a dye in my transmission fluid to ensure it was my engine and not my transmission. I drove my car for a week and took it back to double check, and sure enough it was my engine! Although they spent time and care on my car, they didn't charge me a single penny, even when I insisted to at least pay for the dye. They were able to refer me another mechanic to fix my engine leak and I was able to get my issue solved that same day. As a woman who is nervous to get work done on my car, I had an excellent time at El Monte Transmission. If you are having transmission troubles, please go to them :) read more

I had a transmission issue with my 2014 Subaru Impreza. A different transmission shop quoted me $2500+ to replace the entire valve body and said it was the only way to fix the issue. I called John and explained the error code and situation. He evaluated the car and confirmed that just the lock-up solenoid could be replaced. He got my car in and out in two days and it was under $900 before tax. He saved me a ton of money and explained everything to me in a way that I could understand. He also called to follow up with me to make sure things were running smoothly. An honest and friendly business technician - I would highly recommend El Monte Transmission! After the 500 mile break in period of smooth city driving on my 2017 Chevy Silverado 1500 z71, I was more than impressed with the quality of work this shop had provided. Called El Monte about the problem with my transmission. Spoke to the owner John. Was quoted for a rebuild which was lower than the other quotes I received from other shops. I have never met a more honest technician like this shop owner. Him and his son are quite a duo of integrity and honesty as well as very competent technicians. I recommend this shop to anyone. Of many inquiries I sent to inquire about changing my transmission fluid for both my cars, El Monte Transmission was most professional and honest in their quote. My 1995 Montero leaked all of its transmission fluid on the driveway. I called El Monte Transmission after another shop wouldn't answer the phone or return my VMs. In comparison, John picked up the phone immediately and was able to consult with me right away. At the shop, his crew quickly discovered a hole in the pressure line. John gave an estimate for the cost and a time that it would be completed. John called right on time and charged me 40% less than the original estimate. He said he couldn't charge me more than what the actual labor and parts cost, and I was shocked with his honesty. I would definitely return if I needed transmission repair work in the future. read more

El Monte Transmission is probably one of the last remaining honest and knowledgeable mechanic left in the SGV. John, the owner has handled multiple vehicles for me personally as well as my company trucks. So far, so good at El Monte Transmission. I have much respect for John. Before our visit to El Monte Transmission, two local mechanics said it was an electronic issue which they were not equipped to diagnose or handle with their current work load. We took it to Sunrise Ford. Our only complaint was that we had intermittent lack of auto shifting while driving, though it could be managed manually with the gear shift. No leaks, no grinding or crunching noises at all. After keeping the work truck over two weeks, Sunrise rep said we needed a new transmission for $9369. Though they did not drop the pan "due to the labor and cost involved" they determined the oil was burned and there were metal shavings in the transmission. After the "burned oil and ground metal" 9369 comment from Sunrise, we wanted a second opinion and were referred to El Monte Transmission by a friend. We had heard about brake light sensor issues. We replaced that sensor for $19.99 + $95 labor. Sunrise never mentioned a $19.99 dollar part + labor. Only that we needed a $9369 transmission. We collected our Ford 550 from Sunrise and came home to install a brake light sensor to rule that out. Believing we had a fix, we kept our appointment with El Monte Transmission to cover all the bases. John said he would be happy to check it out while we waited and see what he could find. He drove the truck, opened the hood, checked the trans fluid, we found it was clear, there were no metal shavings anywhere, he hooked up his computer to run it through the sensors. Many had never been cleared after other work details performed (tires, oil etc). With our permission, he cleared the computer to give us a fresh look at everything. There were no codes indicating any failures, mechanical or otherwise. John spent nearly an hour on our truck and would not take any money. I am grateful for his calm and pleasant demeanor and attention to our concerns. He did not try to sell us anything. His belief was that the transmission is not a problem and that the brake light sensor may well have been the culprit. This is a tree truck that tows a chipper. Three weeks and 16 jobs later, the truck is running beautifully with zero shifting failures. Thank you John at El Monte Transmission for what I believe to be a fair and honest assessment of our vehicle. read more

This place is awesome. I am a little late in writing my review, sorry. Worth 5+ stars if possible. These guys went above and beyond for me. I brought in my 1977 Chevy K5 Blazer for a transmission rebuild (700r4). I also asked if these could install a temperature sensor in my transmission pan for me. This would be more of a "custom" job as they would have to drill and tap the pan. I also asked if they could install my twin-stick kit for my transfer case since it would be out of the truck during the transmission rebuild. I could have done both of these jobs myself, but it was convenient for me to have them do it as the transmission work was being done. So I would have know if they messed anything up doing my requests extra things. They did the additional requests professionally and it was a prefect job. I have total confidence in this shop and have no issue telling all my friends and family to go there. read more

Went here on good recommendations, but pretty disappointed in their professionality and quality of work. My transmission was removed from my truck twice, and they damaged / destroyed the pin connector on the transmission and blamed it on the connection being old. It was obviously left connected while it was dropped from the truck. It's disappointing that they did not offer to replace or repair it. I'll be writing something with the BBB and hope they don't do this to other folks. Posting this to every outlet possible. They might be decent at rebuilding transmissions, but if they can't fix simple things they break, I wonder what else they do within the transmissions that they will try to avoid responsibility for. Zero stars if possible. read more

I was having transmission issues and I called around to see who would give me the best price. John was quick to answer my call and was very polite, but straightforward about what the service work would entail. He was able to provide an estimate on how much it would cost and do an evaluation the same day. My transmission required a rebuild and some engine mounts were damaged so he offered to fix them while the engine was out. I agreed to have them done to avoid having to pay out extra later on. John informed me it would take about a week to a week and a half, but he was able to have my car fixed in about 4 days! I would absolutely recommend El Monte Transmission to anyone who is looking to get transmission work done. He is honest, hardworking, reliable, and an all around great guy! read more

EL MONTE TRANSMISSION! They are honest, professional, and overall great place to get trans work done. I had my gmc Sierra towed from lake Elsinore! That's how much trust this shop. The owner is great, and any questions that I have about my transmission he was able to answer, and actually show me after he drop the transplant how many metal shavings were in the actual pan. He explained out basically my transmission is going out it's gonna need to be repaired... he recommended that but either way he wasn't trying to be pushy salesman. Best price for a transmission rebuild by far! And excellent transparent service- this place was a blessing!

An honest mechanic is practically an oxymoron... But there r always exceptions to the rule. Here! Like many other reviewers have claimed, this was my experience as well. He couldn't find anything wrong despite driving my Mustang around & running diagnostics. Hence, I was not charged. Furthermore, it's so refreshing as a ditzy young female to find a mechanic that doesn't talk down to me (or worse!) So, unlike the highly rated dermatologist & body shop that had me wondering, WTF?! This place has restored my faith in Yelp again... Yay! read more
