I walked in on Friday and the manager asked me what I needed done and I said gel manicure and the girl that I like was working on someone else and I said are you done after this? Oh no no I have more clients. OK is someone else available? No, we're full, then why did you ask me what I needed? So to give them benefit of the doubt and called them this morning at 9:30 to make an appointment with the girl that had done my nails previously and specifically asked for her at 11:45. When I came in. She was just starting on someone's toes and I looked at her and I said hi, I have an appointment with you at 11:45, to which she looked bewildered. And the manager said oh well, you can go with the other girl. I told them this was not the point. If I made an appt with one person at a certain time why is it not honored. I will not be returning. The space is very clean, bright, and inviting, and everyone who works there is friendly and welcoming. Tu is my go-to technician. She always takes the extra time to remove my stubborn calluses and cuts my nails exactly how I like them--nice and short, without me having to ask repeatedly. Initially, I came here out of necessity, but now it has become more of a preference, mainly because of the excellent care they provide. One standout feature that no other nail shop offers is that they treat your hands and feet with SPF before placing them under the UV light. I usually come here when my normal nail lady is booked up because it's close to home and very convenient. I just had a horrible experience and left in tears. The service is fast and friendly but it's almost like they're rushing to get you out. I sat down to have a fill done. She found the perfect color to match what I already had. I asked her I wanted French tip. Most people know how to do French tip in this Day and age but unfortunately this was not the case I had to show her pictures of how I wanted it. It came out super chunky and big each nail was a different length and shape of French tip. Overall, I left very unsatisfied. I told her I just didn't like it and wanted her to take the polish off in the long run because of how terrible of a job she did, she was sick and coughing the entire time eating cough drops the appointment, the other woman who was getting her nails done had a similar experience because they were not listening to how she wanted her nails done either. I don't know if this was just an off day for them, but I still ended up having to pay $40 for the fill, which I believe, I should not have paid for. This review is long overdue as I've been going to the place for 13 years and now moved out of Alameda and have to say goodbye! I am really going to miss Kate and the place. She and other ladies do a great job. I especially like that Kate listens and does the stuff I ask for (like trimming my toenails shorter) and skips the stuff I don't care for. The pedi lasts even longer than I need! Everyone is very friendly, the place is very clean and have very good chairs and prices are very reasonable. I get my nails done here for special events and vacations and I've always had a great experience with the owner. She is very attentive and is happy to modify for me. They have very few people working here but can usually take you day of which I appreciate. I hate leaving bad reviews, but I had the worst manicure here this weekend. My nails were pretty long and I asked for a trim, and she took off a ton. The cringy part was my nails are very rounded and instead of cutting each side or bit by bit, she just cut straight down from the middle, bending my nail. That makes for a less clean cut and it's more likely to break later. The shape of the nails are uneven and so is the polish. There's large parts that aren't painted. It was one of the sloppiest jobs I've seen. If you're getting paint all over my skin I'd expect there to be paint on the nails too at least. She actually used a file to try and file the polish off... my skin. And she used the cuticle scissors to cut off bits of polish. My nails are a mess and I didn't have any hangnails or issues with my cuticles until coming here. She ripped skin off -- pretty terrible experience. The pedicure was done by a different lady. She was good and I'd give her 4 stars if I could. (The trimming part was a bit painful and the water was cold for the soak, but both of those are forgivable) Definitely recommend avoiding this place. read more

I went for a brow tint and lash extensions. Kay waxed my brow, a service I did not request, even after I told her I had problems with wax. My skin was ripped off around my brows and stung. Kay said my brows were a little pink but it would go away in 15 minutes. Kay then tinted my brows which made the skin sting more, and then applied the lash extensions. After I paid and left, I saw in my car mirror with sunlight that the lash extensions made me look like a cartoon character. The clumps were unevenly placed, too long, and all the same length. Very amateurish application. I returned to the salon to have them removed. Kay tried to cut them which made them look worse. She put a lot of adhesive remover on my lids and it seeped into my eyes stinging them and hurt my already damaged skin around my brows. I had to hurry and rinse it off. She put more on and I had to rinse it off again. She finally got the extensions off. When I got home, I got a really good look at the damage done by Kay. My eyes were swollen and the skin around my brow was red, open, inflamed, and very painful. I went back the next morning to get a refund. Kay was only going to give me less than half of what I paid, and I said I wanted a full refund. She refused, saying I had to speak to the manager (who wasn't there), or come back later. I couldn't hang around-had to go. Called again the next day for the manager and she still wasn't there. read more

I was going to wait for Tina but my Mom suggested having Kate (sp?) do my nails b/c she's is good too (this conversation was translated in Tagalog). Eh why not? Kate was a tad big faster than Tina (my Mom of course had Tina) and we sat at the same time but I ended up finishing ahead of my Mom. Hmm? I didn't care much b/c Kate did do a good job with my french - meticulous in fixing the white lines and it was nice. Overall, I at least have a back up lady in case Tina gets busy. I never leave bad reviews but unfortunately my experience has repeatedly been bad here. I went to take my acrylics off off and get a gel mani. The lady instead of soaking my nails in acetone and taking them off properly proceeded to use a fake nail to scrape off my acrylics completely damaging my nails. It hurt so bad and I kept telling her and she didn't even apologize. My nails were so damaged I could not get the gel and had to take a break for months. I made the mistake of coming back for an eyebrow wax since it's so close to me and the same lady got wax super close to my eye and burned me leaving a red mark, again did not apologize. read more

I've been coming here for almost 3years now. I would only let Kate do my nails and CeeCee for my toes. But each time when i come here the prices goes up and down like crazy. They don't even bother giving me a stamp card that they have there. Each time i would come here and tip each person that did my toes and hands (kate) 6-10$ each time. Right before i stop coming here. I've used this salon solely for the past few years primarily because it is walking distance from my home and continued going because of the price. The method used to remove gel polish is careless and improper. The polish removal starts off correctly but I believe in order to accommodate the walk-in customer, the remaining polish is harshly filed off with a coarse file which removed layers of nail. I contracted a fungal infection two months ago which I attribute to the services received at this salon. I don't find my salon visits at all relaxing due to the excessively loud chatter in their language, which I don't normally mind, but it is over the top. I will not return. read more

This is the first and last time I will be going to Hi Tech Nails. I went in to get my eye brows, upper lip, and chin waxed. The lady that did my wax job was extremely careless. She got wax all over my coat, my hair, and neck. She burned the side of my chin because the wax was too hot. She completely changed the shape of my eyebrows leaving one thinner than the other. This was my 3rd visit to this place and it was just like that Seinfeld episode! The two ladies worked on my feet and hands. The lady working on my hands stopped to answer the business phone which was acceptable. A few minutes later her cell phone rung and she stopped again to answer her personal call. I have been going to Hi Tech nails for 13 years. They have gone through several renovations and have never increased their prices for a mani/pedi. They just went through a major renovation and the salon looks beautiful. The price of a mani/pedi went up by $4.00 and I don't have a problem with that although I have always left very generous tips. What I do have a problem with is the buffing of fingernails instead of polish went up an additional $3.00. This makes no sense to me as buffing does not take longer and no product is used. Instead I opted for clear polish which is included in the manicure price. Hi Tech is still less expensive than other salons and I can purchase my own buffer for a few dollars, but there is just absolutely no logic in charging more money for a buffing than polish. I was surprised and upset and if I go back, it will be for a pedicure only! read more
