I recently tried the Fajita Bowl from this place in downtown Philadelphia. I opted for grilled chicken as the protein. Since it was a takeaway order, I enjoyed it later in my hotel. The portion size was enormous, and I couldn't finish it in one sitting. The food was decent, similar to other Chipotle-like restaurants, but I would recommend this place primarily for its generous portion sizes.

Such an amazing happy hour spot in center city!! My girlfriends and I came by here and had a blast! We all got tacos and the triple dip combo as our food. My personal favorite was the crispy shrimp taco and the queso! The margaritas, which are only $6 during happy hour, were delicious!! Service was good and was such a fun crowd!

Delicious fresh food. Lots of menu options. Egg/breakfast options available all day. Dietary restriction friendly. Great service. Relaxed setting. Dine-in, Take out or 3rd party delivery.

I grabbed a chicken burrito, and wow, it was incredibly cheesy and the chicken was perfectly tender and flavorful, not chewy at all. I actually stopped in because I spotted their frozen margarita machine while walking by after teaching at Jefferson, and I'm so glad I did. The frozen margarita had an amazing texture and gave me just the right buzz without being too strong. I added the strawberry flavor to one of them, and it was so good. I'll definitely be coming back!

Always a blast at hi-lows happy hour! I was super excited to see that they added a strawberry margarita to their happy hour menu! I got another round of tacos after this one just because they are so good! Def recommend stopping by for happy hour or late night or anytime actually. Food is always fresh and yummy!

Awesome margs

This spot is SOLID and will forever be on my Philly rotation. The tacos and margs are delicious. The service is friendly, and we were checked up on often, which is a plus. Ample seating and with everyone drinking and carrying on, it gets LOUD. The best part? If you are there for long enough, enjoy happy hour and then do it again for the reverse happy hour, which starts at 9pm. Missed taking pics of the fish taco.

You can't go wrong with the tacos here. Before coming me and my friend were going back and forth on this place or a more traditional taco spot. I'm so glad we decided to come here. Service was okay, iur waiter was a little inattentive but the place was busy. This place has the best mushroom taco I think I've ever had.every taco I had was bomb lol. Make sure you come check out their happy hour too!

Go Birds! I came here after the parade for lunch. They were very efficient handling such a large crowd. The tacos were SOO good I was surprised because the trio app was kind of lame. I also had a margarita that was great. They have a ton of tvs and a huge celine that makes this place feel huge. Definitely a good stop if you're looking for cheaper tex-mex! They also accommodated my gluten allergy well. (Gluten friendly is what I would call this place due to cross contamination but the server was very aware and educated on that!)

As a City worker, I'm always looking for deals I can snag using my City ID. This week, for our return back to the office full time, Hi-Lo was kind enough to offer a 10% discount. Hi-Lo is located right on the corner of Walnut Street, next to Scoop Deville. Since I was using my ID, I walked in and placed my to-go order with the host. My food was ready in about 10 minutes. I ordered two tacos and a side of jalapeño-lime slaw. Not only did everything look amazing, but the flavor was out of this world! Jalapeño lime slaw was slightly spicy, but nothing I couldn't handle. It had crunchy fried onions on top and was a refreshing side to enjoy with my tacos. The mushroom asada taco was unreal! The smoky flavor was on point. I also enjoyed the queso fresco and rice mixture in the cauliflower tinga taco. The tortillas were soft and buttery. Both tacos exceeded my expectations. I'm glad I got to experience Hi-Lo! I'll be back for Happy Hour soon, and would also be interested in trying a bowl from their menu.

We stopped in for a quick bit. Seated immediately and food came out quickly. I grabbed the Guajillo BBQ Chicken and Pineapple Pulled Pork tacos. They were both so juicy and flavorful. It looked like they had some good happy hour specials and late night specials. It is a good spot for a quick bite!

Chicken Fajita (L) and Guajillo BBQ (R)

FOOD We swung by around 4 pm and ordered a mix between the happy hour and regular menus. I had the guajillo BBQ chicken and chicken fajita tacos. The BBQ taco was the perfect mix of sweet and savory and one I'd definitely get again if returning. The chicken fajita wasn't my favorite-- a little mellower on the flavor side and heavier than the former. Finally, the jumbo wings were equally sweet and savory as its taco counterpart. The ranch complemented the wings perfectly. DRINKS We ordered the margarita ($5 during happy hour), and it packed a punch! Definitely recommend getting one when stopping by. SERVICE The staff are kind and friendly. AMBIANCE The interior is very neat and modern. With the front of the store relatively small, I was surprised to see how expansive the establishment actually was when we stepped in. The high ceilings add to the spaciousness of the place as well. PARKING Paid street parking is available at a limited capacity. Parking garages are also located nearby.

Good tacos, good drinks, cute place, and good service. The bbq chicken was my fave. Also had a grapefruit ranch water, which was [bartender's] kiss.

Hi-lo Silver Margarita

I've been to Hi-lo taco a few times now. Each time I was treated to the best tacos in the city! I had the most fun there during happy hour. The margaritas were flowing, with your choice of the Hi-lo Silver Margarita or the Strawberry Margarita discounted for Happy Hour. Both are strong and hit the spot. The Chips and loaded queso are are a great sharable start to any Happy Hour there. But when it comes to the tacos you might not want to share. They are that good. The Cajun shrimp taco is outstanding. It may seem lite on the shrimp at first glance, but once you start eating it you will realize it's a perfectly balanced taco with perfectly fried shrimp. The grilled BBQ chicken taco is another happy hour taco that had me licking my lips. On the regular menu, the grilled mahi mahi fish taco is delicious, and the chicken bacon ranch taco is even better. The chicken bacon ranch taco is my favorite. It's the perfect ratio of grilled chicken, cheddar, bacon, peppers, onions, lettuce, jalapeños, and ranch dressing on a handmade flour tortilla. Eating that taco makes me happy! Just writing about it makes me want to go back to Hi-lo taco soon. If you like tacos Hi-lo taco is a can't miss destination.

The bar has a fantastic variety of tangy, spicy, bright toppings and salsas to make your taco your own. My favorite is always the reddish orange salsa and this one tastes just like the taco places back in Texas. The tacos are hefty, so that makes up for the slightly higher than average price. Booths and bar seating is available as well as a patio on weekends. It is located in a sketchy area but a police car is stationed on the corner. I felt as safe as I do in other areas of Philly. Street parking is available within a few feet. The cocktails were very good with many different kinds of margs and other drinks. Beer and wine are also available. We were greeted as soon s we walked in by both the bartender and one of the owners. Our server brought water as soon as we sat down. She was attentive and helpful with explanations. The food here is authentic! Several different kinds of guacamole are available. We chose the one with pomegranate. It added a nice crunch and flavor. One with grasshopper was available. lol that was a no for me! The trio of empanadas were delicious. We shared a carnitas taco platter and branzino platter. The tacos were tasty. The branzino was cooked nicely with good flavor. The rice and beans and Brussels spouts and mushrooms were all delicious. I'll definitely be back!

The meat in the tacos was so dry that it was hard to chew and swallow. Some of the pieces were cooked to a crisp. No amount of salsa could make them better. I'm sorry I didn't take photos of the tacos, but trust me me I get no pleasure from leaving a bad review for this place; I am not lying or exaggerating. I thought they were going to be one of our local gems. I choked down a half a taco, gave the rest to my husband and he couldn't eat them either. The churros actually had raw batter in the middle and the outside was rubbery and hard at the same time. You could barely bite through it. I'm a cook and I know that that is about keeping the oil at an even temperature to get the inside done and not overcook the outside. Someone in the kitchen did not know what they were doing. The thing is, I have had their food before and it was pretty good. I don't know if there is a new chef or what happened, but I can't trust them after this experience.

The service was fast to get us seated, take our order, and bring our food. The interior exudes taco bar vibes, decorated with Christmas lights, and is bigger than it appears from the outside. The metal chairs are a bit light, so just be careful getting up. It wasn't too loud considering the amount of people inside, and we even saw a good number of families. There is a hot sauce bar, which isn't really advertised, but you can take a bottle back to your table for seasoning. We ordered the (1) pollo (chicken) tinga, (2) carnitas, and (3) vegetarian (mushroom) tacos for the $1.33/taco Taco Tuesday deal (minimum of 3 tacos per type required). From the Happy Hour $5 menu, we ordered the (1) chorizo quesadilla, (2) classic house margaritas, and (3) churros. Overall: -The pollo tinga tacos were a bit dry, even though there was crema, and we felt there was more lettuce than other filling. When we added a hot sauce from the sauce bar to these, we enjoyed them more. Otherwise, we'd pass. -The carnitas tacos were delicious! Full of filling and juicy, we would reorder these for sure again. -The vegetarian mushroom tacos were good, juicy and flavorful. However, we preferred the carnitas tacos. Probably pass next time. -The chorizo quesadilla was awesome. Super flavorful, great cheese ratio, and not too greasy. It was more toasted instead of crispy, which I prefer. We'd definitely reorder these too. -The house margaritas come with either tajin, sugar, or salt on their rims. Great drink at a great price. -Lastly, the churros were pretty average, but really hit the spot! Rosy's Taco Bar promises cheap tacos and drinks for Taco Tuesday, and I'd say it certainly delivers.
