Mexican food in the very heart of Philly - bonus points for the photobooth! First and foremost, our waiter was wonderful and I wish I could remember his name. The menu here is expensive and has plenty of vegetarian options which I appreciate appreciated. They make a very good classic margarita, so be sure to order one as your drink of choice. The nachos are pretty good, but I will say the star of the show was actually the sides for me: the brussels sprouts, plantains, and equites - fabulous! One of my favorite Mexican themed restaurants in Philly. It can get a little loud and kinda clubby at night. I like going during happy hour times - they don't have happy hour deals though. A friend knew that I loved nachos and recommended this place to me while I was visiting Philly for the first time. I had the nacho mamma, and it was absolutely delicious! The chips were nice and crispy from seeming to have been in the oven. The toppings were great also. I was by myself and was told the bar was open with full service. Upscale Mexican restaurant in the heart of downtown Philly. I was in town visiting and our host for the weekend brought us here. We couldn't get a reservation so our group decided to go and wait for a table. I'm so glad we did. El Vez is a gorgeous and very large space and was filled to capacity on this beautiful Saturday evening in August. There is some outdoor seating too. We had a few cocktails at the bar while waiting. Once seated in a plush corner booth with a view of the whole place we did a guacamole trio (El Vez, De La Hoya, Tito Santana). They were all really good. A little full from earlier in the day and our chips and guac, most of us got salads. The service was good and the prices reasonable. I could definitely eat here again as this El Vez still stand out in my mind as I write this review months later! read more

I was trying to pick a place close to the convention center for lunch and saw that Yelp had some good reviews. Weekday Lunch comes with a Mexican salad, two tacos and beans for $17.50. To top it off, our waitress was incredibly knowledgeable about gluten free and was able to let us know what items on the menu either were or could be made gluten free. Made it to El Vez tonight and had a nice dinner with my colleagues. Started off with hiccup since I made reservations thru an app, didn't realize I selected the wrong date. Completely my mistake. I asked the hostess if they could still accommodate us, and she asked me to wait on the side as she checked. After waiting for 25 mins, another hostess asked me if I needed help, so I explained. Come to find, I needed to put my name on the waitlist. The original hostess said she didn't get my name or phone number, which I provided to her upon arrival. Then she tells me I had to wait another 40 mins. I kindly reminded her that she asked me to stand on the side. And so I asked how can we make this work and she said very rudely, I needed to wait 40 mins. I was disappointed and left. However, I came back in and asked for a manager. Explained the whole thing to him and he got us a table in less than 5 mins. Super nice and accommodating. Plus, he gave us dessert on the house. Something about good customer service and making it right. He's been there for 23 years and I hope the other hostess learns what it means to be in customer service from him.
