One of my favorite Mexican themed restaurants in Philly. It can get a little loud and kinda clubby at night. I like going during happy hour times - they don't have happy hour deals though. El Vez is a gorgeous and very large space and was filled to capacity on this beautiful Saturday evening in August. There is some outdoor seating too. We had a few cocktails at the bar while waiting. Once seated in a plush corner booth with a view of the whole place we did a guacamole trio (El Vez, De La Hoya, Tito Santana). They were all really good. A little full from earlier in the day and our chips and guac, most of us got salads. The service was good and the prices reasonable. I stopped here for dinner one night while visiting Philadelphia for a conference. There were some interesting options on the menu for different types of guacamole and tacos. My friend and I tried two different types of fish tacos and the guacamole. I thought my mahi mahi tacos were OK but small portions and my friend really didn't like the fried fish tacos she ordered. The staff were nice enough to exchange her tacos for a different order. We had high hopes based on the reviews but realized we were disappointed because we are used to Mexican food from California. I was trying to pick a place close to the convention center for lunch and saw that Yelp had some good reviews. Weekday Lunch comes with a Mexican salad, two tacos and beans for $17.50. Wow, this place is amazing. The coconut ceviche wasn't your typical variety but it was insanely good. Visited El Vez when they opened then went back with the wife for dinner the same day. Came here for lunch one day and got the El Vez guacamole I had jalapeños, tomatoes, onions, cilantro and lime. Sounds like guacamole can't mess it up. They gave you plenty of chips with that and more than enough to fill me up for my lunch. Ordered the Carne Asada burrito, which has rice, black beans, guacamole, salsa, cheese, and obviously Carne Asada.
