Went during happy hour and taco Tuesday and the food was great! The happy hour drink deals are definitely worth it, I had the white and red sangria and the house margarita which were all delicious and reasonably priced for the amount you get. The tacos were delicious as well and we tried a number of appetizers which all tasted fantastic, especially the ceviche. The restaurant was not busy when we went sk service was quick and very friendly. The restaurant has great decor, a cute outdoor area, and very nice bathrooms! I definitely recommend trying this place especially if the weather is nice!

OMG Service is slow, seriously it's slow ... Food is not bad but not ok.. edible. I had the chilaquiles with mole and skirt steak. The chilaquile chips were drowning is mole, I mean way to much mole sauce. Halfway through my meal I was eating soggy chips and just a mess. The steak was overdone but just okay. The Tacos my wife had were pretty good, pork tacos with tomatio sauce.. I saw some of the other dishes others ordered and I can definitely make recommendations to the "chef" and owner. My recommendations regarding the Chilaquiles with Mole are.. half the Mole sauce and dont over cook the steak.

I love the decor and energy in this place. We were seated immediately. Our server was helpful and very nice. The bartender is skilled! I had a Paloma and my husband had an old fashioned, both were delicious! We split a shrimp salad that was a special that day and it was very tasty. My daughter enjoyed an order of churros and hot cocoa, cleaned her plate. I would return if in the area again.

We were the only table at noon on Super Bowl Sunday! Our hostess was our waitress who also made our drinks. And she was fabulous. Great colorful decor and the food was fantastic. I loved my brunch plate w/scrambled eggs, chicken entombata (like enchiladas) and mini pancakes (banana blueberry) plus the orange spiced coffee was tasty and different. I'll come back to try the Mexican ice cream and other deserts.

I had a nice summer brunch at Las Bugambilias with a local friend while visiting Philly. The visit had a mildly rocky start, in that we arrived at 10:30 am on a Saturday with posted hours on their door and online listed as opening at 10 am, but we were turned away due to their opening time really being 11 am. It was a strange interaction, especially since they had their door propped open. We went elsewhere but opted to return once they were truly open for the day. We had our pick of tables inside or out, so we opted to sit inside but right next to the outdoor area. We had a nice breeze without being too hot. It was a great choice. Our server was kind. I ordered the mocha to start, and the presentation was pretty. The drink was tasty also. For my meal, I ordered the Torta Espinaca and subbed a side salad instead of potatoes. The salad wasn't dressed and ended up just being lettuce mixed with tomatoes and peppers, which was kind of strange, but the sandwich more than made up for it. I could barely even finish one half of it. The size was huge and the flavor was amazing. I'd definitely recommend it! So all in all, had some hiccups here but they redeemed themselves with delightful food and a nice atmosphere.

Second time here. One of the few places with space big enough that can accommodate large groups (15 of us). The food was delicious and atmosphere is lively. They have outside seating as well. Staff were attentive and worked well with our big group.

Delicious, filling Tamales! Mexican hot chocolate is thick, creamy and made upon order. It only has a slight hint of spices so perfect for kids or people who cannot handle spicy food.

A great neighborhood spot for Mexican food, especially if you are craving tacos! Atmosphere: I love the vibe of the restaurant, how colorful both the interior and exterior are, and how quick the service was! Food: I found everything we ordered to be very flavorful and taste fresh. We started off with guacamole and chips, which was a great appetizer to kick off our meal. My only qualm is that I found the prices to be higher than other taco spots I have been to in the city (for the tacos and the guac). Overall: 4/5 - I would like to go back, but may want to try other Mexican spots in the city first, especially because Philly has so many good ones!

Alex was our wonderful server. I really felt so well taken care of . He gave such lovely recommendations . I ordered the caldo chicken avocado soup.. It tasted so great... Felt like I was in someone's home in cuernavaca enjoying such a wonderful meal. My friends enjoyed there meals as well. A delightful time and the staff was so accommodating The ambience-artwork and seating so relaxing and inviting. So delightful and colorful. I would definitely come back!

We have visited this place twice during out visits to old city and both times we had a terrible experience. Last time ee'd been visiting some highlights of Philly and wanted some drinks and quick meal. Our waiter was John. The restaurant was almost empty but John didn't seem to be happy to have a table ordering only cocktails and some snacks to start. Despite the fact that place was almost empty it took him 20 minutes to get us a round drinks and chips. We placed and order for dinner and waited almost 45 minutes, finally gave up and asked for the manager. Shift manager assured us that kitchen was backed up but our food would be out shortly. After spending almost hour we asked for our food again only to find out that John had forgot to put in our order!!! Manager came by again to apologize and told us we'd have our entrees in few minutes. Well they did manage to rush the food out but ended up giving us the wrong order!!! After spending almost hour and half at this place we ended up just eating the wrong order they got it out and for us and left. The taste of the food wasn't to die for. Service was horrible. Honestly wouldn't recommend and definitely not coming back. There's nothing authentic about it, definitely not what I expected.

Dined in solo dolo at Las Bugambilias and the atmosphere was fine for a weekday dinner. Walked in and was seated immediately. Requested a mocktail which was okay. Ordered tortilla chips and salsa, that was meh. I tried their camaron (shrimp) tacos; which I wasn't impressed and not enough flavor. Perhaps Las Bugambilias other menu options are better than the food I tried.

We were greeted as soon s we walked in by both the bartender and one of the owners. Our server brought water as soon as we sat down. She was attentive and helpful with explanations. The food here is authentic! Several different kinds of guacamole are available. We chose the one with pomegranate. It added a nice crunch and flavor. One with grasshopper was available. lol that was a no for me! The trio of empanadas were delicious. We shared a carnitas taco platter and branzino platter. The tacos were tasty. The branzino was cooked nicely with good flavor. The rice and beans and Brussels spouts and mushrooms were all delicious. I'll definitely be back!

The meat in the tacos was so dry that it was hard to chew and swallow. Some of the pieces were cooked to a crisp. No amount of salsa could make them better. I'm sorry I didn't take photos of the tacos, but trust me me I get no pleasure from leaving a bad review for this place; I am not lying or exaggerating. I thought they were going to be one of our local gems. I choked down a half a taco, gave the rest to my husband and he couldn't eat them either. The churros actually had raw batter in the middle and the outside was rubbery and hard at the same time. You could barely bite through it. I'm a cook and I know that that is about keeping the oil at an even temperature to get the inside done and not overcook the outside. Someone in the kitchen did not know what they were doing. The thing is, I have had their food before and it was pretty good. I don't know if there is a new chef or what happened, but I can't trust them after this experience.

Honestly El Rey is great!…read more As a Los Angeles native, Mexican food is always a "not as good as California" affair, and with that bar, it's hard to find anything that holds a candle. But El Rey is good in its own right, taking familiar foods and flavors, with a bit of a fancier twist, and making a good meal that I love to eat and enjoy! Seating and service here is friendly and prompt. Even when it's pretty loud and seems packed, there are always a handful of open tables available, where we've usually been able to be seated almost immediately. Such was the case this evening. We were on a bit of a time crunch so we ordered immediately and our food came out so fast that the waiter for our table was surprised as the food beat him with our napkins to the table. We ordered the Tuna Tostada and the Yucatan Spiced Chicken Fajitas. Both were amazing! Good thing for our tight timeline, the food was gone as fast as it came. The waiter helpfully recommend the house hot sauce, which was certainly spicy and a good compliment on our fajitas. Overall, a great place to dine for Mexican-inspired! Perfectly seasoned, tender, flavorful -- the kind of bite that makes you close your eyes for a second. They were so good I came back two days later just for them. That's not a craving... that's infatuation. - The Chayote Salad completely surprised me. Fresh, bright, and paired with their homemade hot sauce? My palate was awakened. I even brought it home (with dressing and hot sauce on the side) and it still hit! Speaking of heat -- if you love spicy food, ASK for their homemade hot sauce. It's bold, fiery, and addictive. There were booths, tables and bar seating available with Wonder Years playing on a few TVs with warm lighting and the incandescent Christmas lights that are reminiscent of Grandma's house (bonus points for nostalgia!) I requested a booth and she promptly sat me. She brought me water, menus and explained the specials to me. As I perused the menu, I was overwhelmed with the options available to me. I ultimately landed on one of the dinner specials (Cabernet braised brisket with a side of carrots & buttery mashed potatoes), chips & salsa and a Paloma. Chips landed first and while both salsas were fresh, I still felt the need to add salt. (Everyone's palate is different) Food & drink arrived simultaneously. Paloma was made strong but tasted more like a classic margarita as opposed to the tang of grapefruit that comes with a Paloma. Still good! The food was essentially cold & looked like it had been sitting for awhile being served to me but all the flavors were there. The brisket fell apart, I didn't even need a knife to cut it. The carrots were tender and the mashed potatoes were buttery. I would 1000% go back for the drinks and service, however I may get something different on the menu.
