Superb food!! Got take out and held up well during our walk back! Cute little neighborhood place

I got the Carnita Burrito and it was very good. Happy hour on the weekend was a great surprise too, so we got margaritas! We also got the nachos to share and they were some of the best we've had in the city.

This was my first food stop in philly, I was starving after my flight and this place was walking distance from where I was staying. We ordered the house margaritas, they were good but not the best I'd ever had. Our server seemed to be new and didn't have much knowledge of the menu, such as she wasn't sure what salsas came in the salsa trio. The guac was yummy, the salsas (pico, salsa verde, & mango) were, again, good but not the best I ever had. I wanted to order the tequila lime shrimp tacos, but they were out of shrimp. I settled for the carnitas tacos. You get 3 tacos, but I was stuffed after 2. The tacos were a bit plain and could have used a little more pops of flavor.

This has now become tied with my favorite nacho in the city! It was perfectly loaded with cheese, short rib, crema, beans, tomatoes, etc. we were so full after the nachos that we had to take the carnitas burrito to-go! It was well worth it.

Terrific corner restaurant for solid Mexican food. On a cool, summer evening, we sat outside for dinner after a long day and appreciated the view of the Julian Abele Park across the street and people watching while enjoying Guacamole Tradicional (house-made tortilla chips were perfectly crisp and seasoned), Nachos (queso mixto, black bean, tomato, crema, pickled jalapeño, pickled red onion) with chorizo--adored the pickled elements, and Short Rib Enchiladas (mole poblano, crema, toasted sesame seeds)--mole had a good depth of flavor. Will definitely be back for more!

Small little spot but great menu and selection of beers. We got the nachos which were piled high but didn't get soggy. Chicken was tender and toppings were plentiful. We also got the street corn which I could have ordered again and again. Great flavor!

Finally made it over to Los Camaradas. The food is great, the staff is very friendly, and the place has a great local restaurant feel located right in the middle of a residential area of grad hospital. We ordered the Pollo Enchiladas and the Chicken Tinga Burrito. Both were plentiful in size and flavorful in taste. The place was packed (inside and outside) for a Tuesday, so I think others in the area feel the same positive vibes for this establishment. I really liked the decor as well. Lots of "day of the dead" type artwork in and around the bar area. We will certainly be back, the next time the Mexican food urge hits us.

It's a nice day so I decided to take a walk and stumbled upon Los Camaradas. We ordered from the happy hour menu! Our waiter was super friendly and attentive. Didn't come over to check on us too much but we never had to look for him either. The house margarita was perfect! All of the happy hour tapas that we had were delicious! There are a few seats outside and the inside is small but can be a Great time for a group of friends to visit for happy hour or later at night!

Came here on a Sunday night with two of my friends. Surprisingly, this place was pretty busy for a Sunday night! Margaritas are delicious, although not too strong. Ordered 2 and barely felt a buzz. My friend ordered a dragonfruit (or passion fruit??) marg and the flavoring was amazing! Each taco order comes with 3 tacos, which was great because my friends and I ( a party of 3 ) were able to eat 3 different tacos! We ordered chicken, chorizo, and Baja fish. All the tacos were large and filling! The chorizo taco definitely has a kick to it, and the fish in the fish tacos are definitely a decent size. This place is pretty good in terms of the food portions, the service, and the all-around ambiance. It has a chill, fun, bar vibe. Definitely recommend if you're in the area!

Stopped by for a snack yesterday around 4:30pm to get us through to a 7:30pm dinner elsewhere. We sat outdoors since it was still sunny despite the bit of chill in the air. Apparently they do happy hour even on the weekends so shortly after we got there, a few other parties of 2 joined us outside. We ordered the nachos and the happy hour mac n cheese with chorizo. The server (Xavier) asked if we wanted the happy hour nachos or the full size -- HH nachos weren't on the menu but they are a thing! We went with the smaller size. I thought it was nice that he asked considering it probably made the check smaller. My husband ordered a classic margarita and I asked if they could make a non-alcoholic one -- Xavier offered a limeade and I said I'd try it. My husband's margarita arrived first but not my drink. It didn't come until I asked when our food was dropped off -- I think he forgot. Woops. It was tasty and perfect to have with the nachos and it didn't end up on our bill in the end, so no real harm done. The nachos were delicious!! They were loaded with veggies and the jalapenos may have been pickled or something because they weren't super spicy (which was perfect for us). The chorizo mac was more like a hamburger helper -- I am a huge mac n cheese fan and in order to call that dish mac, I'd suggest removing half the meat and amping up the cheese to make it creamier. It wasn't bad, just wasn't "mac" to me. I probably wouldn't order it again unless I knew it had changed. Overall, a solid spot and love that they do happy hour on the weekends! We will definitely come back to try more of the menu.

There were four of us--daughter, parents, and grandmother--ages 35 to 88. Each of us had a different margarita (regular, guava, and spicy jalapeño). Each one was so good! Parents shared the nachos with short ribs and sweet plantains; daughter had pulled pork tacos; grandma had fish tacos. Everything was delicious and everyone felt very comfortable no matter their age. Peter, our server, was welcoming and professional and knew the menu well--a real pleasure! The only reason for four rather than five stars is that the restaurant's website refers to their happy hour which it turns out does not exist. Otherwise, great drinks, food, and service. Will certainly return.

They brought out a nice little surprise for us - chips and salsa. Very good! The pork belly guacamole was good too but I wouldn't have ordered it if I knew free chips and salsa were en route. The tacos here are okay. We ordered the Baja fish, al pastor, and the pork belly. Baja fish tacos were my favorite, the pieces are fish were huge! Al pastor was very standard but served with two tortillas so it felt more authentic. The pork belly was pretty bad. The meat was covered in a sweet glaze that did not compliment the fish or the meal. The pork belly had a lot of fat on it which should have been heated/rendered. I would not recommend the pork belly tacos. Overall good experience less the pork belly tacos

3.5 stars. Tacos were decent & filling. Good spot for happy hour or just to hang out.

How safe is the neighborhood for the college age group to walk over for a bite to eat? Is there good order and carry out?

it's a safe neighborhood filled with young families, healthcare workers and graduate students

Do they use corn tortillas or flour tortillas for their tacos?

both are an option for tacos! which is super nice especially being gluten free

We were greeted as soon s we walked in by both the bartender and one of the owners. Our server brought water as soon as we sat down. She was attentive and helpful with explanations. The food here is authentic! Several different kinds of guacamole are available. We chose the one with pomegranate. It added a nice crunch and flavor. One with grasshopper was available. lol that was a no for me! The trio of empanadas were delicious. We shared a carnitas taco platter and branzino platter. The tacos were tasty. The branzino was cooked nicely with good flavor. The rice and beans and Brussels spouts and mushrooms were all delicious. I'll definitely be back!

The meat in the tacos was so dry that it was hard to chew and swallow. Some of the pieces were cooked to a crisp. No amount of salsa could make them better. I'm sorry I didn't take photos of the tacos, but trust me me I get no pleasure from leaving a bad review for this place; I am not lying or exaggerating. I thought they were going to be one of our local gems. I choked down a half a taco, gave the rest to my husband and he couldn't eat them either. The churros actually had raw batter in the middle and the outside was rubbery and hard at the same time. You could barely bite through it. I'm a cook and I know that that is about keeping the oil at an even temperature to get the inside done and not overcook the outside. Someone in the kitchen did not know what they were doing. The thing is, I have had their food before and it was pretty good. I don't know if there is a new chef or what happened, but I can't trust them after this experience.

But El Rey is good in its own right, taking familiar foods and flavors, with a bit of a fancier twist, and making a good meal that I love to eat and enjoy! Seating and service here is friendly and prompt. Even when it's pretty loud and seems packed, there are always a handful of open tables available, where we've usually been able to be seated almost immediately. Such was the case this evening. We were on a bit of a time crunch so we ordered immediately and our food came out so fast that the waiter for our table was surprised as the food beat him with our napkins to the table. We ordered the Tuna Tostada and the Yucatan Spiced Chicken Fajitas. Both were amazing! Good thing for our tight timeline, the food was gone as fast as it came. The waiter helpfully recommend the house hot sauce, which was certainly spicy and a good compliment on our fajitas. Overall, a great place to dine for Mexican-inspired! I requested a booth and she promptly sat me. She brought me water, menus and explained the specials to me. As I perused the menu, I was overwhelmed with the options available to me. I ultimately landed on one of the dinner specials (Cabernet braised brisket with a side of carrots & buttery mashed potatoes), chips & salsa and a Paloma. Chips landed first and while both salsas were fresh, I still felt the need to add salt. (Everyone's palate is different) Food & drink arrived simultaneously. Paloma was made strong but tasted more like a classic margarita as opposed to the tang of grapefruit that comes with a Paloma. Still good! The food was essentially cold & looked like it had been sitting for awhile being served to me but all the flavors were there. The brisket fell apart, I didn't even need a knife to cut it. The carrots were tender and the mashed potatoes were buttery. I would 1000% go back for the drinks and service, however I may get something different on the menu.
