We visited this cozy spot on a Thursday morning for breakfast. The kitchen was bustling with energy, a good sign that this place is popular even during weekday mornings. We ordered the breakfast burrito and French toast, and both dishes hit the mark. The burrito was expertly crafted -- perfectly cooked, generously filled, and seasoned to our liking with just the right amount of spice to make every bite flavorful. The French toast was a delightful surprise: perfectly sweet, with a wonderfully balanced flavor that didn't overwhelm the palate. It had a crispy exterior and a soft, custardy center -- just the way French toast should be. The atmosphere is simple but inviting. The space is indoor-only with a small, open kitchen where you can see the chefs in action. Seating is limited, with just a few tables, making it more suited for takeout. That said, the ambiance is bright, clean, and well-maintained. Service was prompt and friendly, with staff members who clearly care about creating a welcoming experience. The warm, family-friendly vibe adds a charming touch to the overall experience. Note, there is 3.75% charge for payments via card. So definitely cash is king here. Also tips are cash only so make sure you get cash. This is the kind of local gem I'd love to support regularly. We'll definitely be back for more tasty breakfasts and friendly service.

Fantastic Mexican spot. Lil mom and pop type of vibe. Solid food, fast takeout service, not over priced, and supporting small business. Sometimes you can win em all!

Good tacos close to home. I tried a torta on one visit. They are HUGE. They took a Mexican torta and Philly-sized it. If quantity is what you seek, get a torta. But the tacos are even better. They are almost overstuffed with meat. The tacos are more than enough for a meal. I like the carnitas best. My husband loves the quesabirria tacos. They have various Aguas frescas and sometimes specials. Atmosphere is very casual, but it's comfortable to dine in.

Food: One of the best burritos in Fairmount. It's nice, warm, and toasted; cheese is nice and melty. The Al Pastor is super flavorful and tender. It's an inexpensive burrito and a generous portion of food. We also get the birria tacos and they were delicious! Stuffed to the brim with meat and the consommé complimented it very well. Enjoyed it much better with a squeeze of lime. Service: Quick & friendly. Ambiance: No frills restaurant with ample seating. It's a perfect casual lunch spot. Unfortunately, they close at 3PM, I would love to come for dinner!

The lady at the counter was very friendly. I had birria tacos with fried maduros on the side. Each taco had 2 tortillas so it was very filling. They were ok. Maduros were sweet and not burnt. They accept credit cards but there's 3.75% fee.

I walked past this place and saw their cute menu posted on the wall, great reviews on Yelp and knew I just had to try this local spot The birria taco sounded good and I haven't had one in years.. so I cheated on my diet and tried theirs and no regrets! The birria tacos and the consome were delicious, as were the 2 salsas that came with it. I enjoyed dipping in the consome, and then sometimes swapping between the 2 other salsas. My dog liked the beef too lol there was too much for me The consome was so delicious, reminded me of the umami from Taiwanese beef noodle soup - so the next day I made a noodle soup using the leftover consome. Protip ;) Tell me if you try it Looking forward to trying their other items, dining in person and updating this review!

Best burrito I've outside of the mission in SF. Loved the cute little seating area, perfect for a quick lunch. Staff was incredibly friendly and kind to me.

Man there's so much good Mexican food in Philly! I had a craving for a burrito and wanted to try something new and saw this place popup. It's open until late afternoon so I got a steak burrito for lunch. I shoulda took picture after I took a bite but hopefully you can see from my video how big this thing is. The sauces it comes with taste fresh and flavorful. The woman at the counter was super friendly and my food was ready really quickly. Am definitely going back to try other stuff. I went back and tried more stuff and took more pics. This place is legit. The chicken in the chicken quesadillas was seasoned well. I really enjoyed the birria tacos as well, plus they're huge! The carnitas were also good but I'm not the biggest fan of carnitas tacos. Take a look at the pics. I think the best thing here I tried was their burrito.

This was the best breakfast burrito I've ever had. It was packed to the brim but somehow not at all messy, it had the perfect amount of each ingredient, and the unique touch of mozzarella cheese gave it a simple yet delicious taste. The cashier was friendly and fast and the restaurant was clean. We ate ours on the way to the birds game on the septa and somehow had zero spills!

Highly recommend ordering from here. The inside is very cute and small if you're looking for a casual sit down meal. I usually order pick up, food is always ready quickly and always taste super fresh at a good price point. If you're looking for authentic Mexican this is the place to go!!

The meat in the tacos was so dry that it was hard to chew and swallow. Some of the pieces were cooked to a crisp. No amount of salsa could make them better. I'm sorry I didn't take photos of the tacos, but trust me me I get no pleasure from leaving a bad review for this place; I am not lying or exaggerating. I thought they were going to be one of our local gems. I choked down a half a taco, gave the rest to my husband and he couldn't eat them either. The churros actually had raw batter in the middle and the outside was rubbery and hard at the same time. You could barely bite through it. I'm a cook and I know that that is about keeping the oil at an even temperature to get the inside done and not overcook the outside. Someone in the kitchen did not know what they were doing. The thing is, I have had their food before and it was pretty good. I don't know if there is a new chef or what happened, but I can't trust them after this experience.

Good: old fashioned, tri-mix of guac (liked the truffle one), steak tacos. Not so good:coco tartare app, I thought most of the other tacos were tried were very okay for the price and would not recommend (shrimp, pastor (one of my least favorite versions of pastor), one with habaenro (not spicy at all). Would have enjoyed some actual spicy salsa to go with it. Overall, I sadly can't really recommend it.

Honestly El Rey is great!…read more As a Los Angeles native, Mexican food is always a "not as good as California" affair, and with that bar, it's hard to find anything that holds a candle. But El Rey is good in its own right, taking familiar foods and flavors, with a bit of a fancier twist, and making a good meal that I love to eat and enjoy! Seating and service here is friendly and prompt. Even when it's pretty loud and seems packed, there are always a handful of open tables available, where we've usually been able to be seated almost immediately. Such was the case this evening. We were on a bit of a time crunch so we ordered immediately and our food came out so fast that the waiter for our table was surprised as the food beat him with our napkins to the table. We ordered the Tuna Tostada and the Yucatan Spiced Chicken Fajitas. Both were amazing! Good thing for our tight timeline, the food was gone as fast as it came. The waiter helpfully recommend the house hot sauce, which was certainly spicy and a good compliment on our fajitas. Overall, a great place to dine for Mexican-inspired! Laying aside my California bias, El Rey is a fun time every time we come.

I hadn't been to El Rey in years, but we scored last-minute Valentine's reservations and WOW. The vibe was lively, warm, and perfect for a fun night out. - Let's talk about these STEAK TACOS . Perfectly seasoned, tender, flavorful -- the kind of bite that makes you close your eyes for a second. They were so good I came back two days later just for them. That's not a craving... that's infatuation. - The Chayote Salad completely surprised me. Fresh, bright, and paired with their homemade hot sauce? My palate was awakened. I even brought it home (with dressing and hot sauce on the side) and it still hit! Speaking of heat -- if you love spicy food, ASK for their homemade hot sauce. It's bold, fiery, and addictive. I genuinely want a bottle for home. Service? 10/10. From the manager to the hosts to the bartender -- everyone was kind, attentive, and patient. They even remembered me from Valentine's Day, which says everything about how they treat their guests. Bathroom Check: Clean? Yes. Cute ambiance? Yes. Great mirror for photos? Absolutely. There were booths, tables and bar seating available with Wonder Years playing on a few TVs with warm lighting and the incandescent Christmas lights that are reminiscent of Grandma's house (bonus points for nostalgia!) I requested a booth and she promptly sat me. She brought me water, menus and explained the specials to me. As I perused the menu, I was overwhelmed with the options available to me. I ultimately landed on one of the dinner specials (Cabernet braised brisket with a side of carrots & buttery mashed potatoes), chips & salsa and a Paloma. Chips landed first and while both salsas were fresh, I still felt the need to add salt. (Everyone's palate is different) Food & drink arrived simultaneously. Paloma was made strong but tasted more like a classic margarita as opposed to the tang of grapefruit that comes with a Paloma. Still good! The food was essentially cold & looked like it had been sitting for awhile being served to me but all the flavors were there. The brisket fell apart, I didn't even need a knife to cut it. The carrots were tender and the mashed potatoes were buttery. I would 1000% go back for the drinks and service, however I may get something different on the menu.
