The first two Bay locations are San Jose and Daly City. Sunnyvale followed and now Berkeley! Cupertino, Milpitas and others are also coming. The focus is on providing an elevated tea experience with signature premium teas and fresh fruits. HeyTea popularized cheese tea which is now a staple at many bubble tea stores. HeyTea is a must visit for any bubble tea enjoyer. Yes, the lines are long. Yes, the prices can be high. But what you get in return is deliciousness in a cup. If you have patience, maybe wait a few weeks for things to settle. Maybe I'm going crazy or perhaps I'm romanticizing a bit, but I do feel as the quality is not the same as it was years ago. Having tried HeyTea on multiple continents (Asia, Australia, etc.) over the years, either the magic has slightly worn off or perhaps it was inevitable that as they grew, some things would slip through the cracks. That being said, the quality is still top notch but it doesn't seem as unmatched as before when they were alone at the top. The Berkeley location is super tiny with very limited seating but it's still lovely, clean, and modern. Parking downtown can be a challenge. At least the staff is efficient and friendly. Pro tip, try to order on the app in advance when they do decide to finally open it after a few days. Sometimes they close it/stop it when the in person line gets crazy but keep checking. This just opened, so my spouse wanted to check this place out. We got a Supreme Bobo Milk Tea in my reusable tumbler. I saw on their sign that they give a 30-cent discount if you BYO (Bring Your Own) container, but the discount didn't show up when I paid. When my spouse asked them about it, they looked at the sign (so it was clear they didn't know about it), and offered us the discount in coins (since I had already finished the transaction), which was a reasonable resolution. When I got the drink, I was disappointed that they gave the cheese cream to us in a separate small plastic container instead of pouring it directly into my tumbler. I ended up pouring the cream myself, though I couldn't get all of it without spilling, so I had to throw the rest away in the landfill bin. I'm curious about how they normally put the cream in drinks prepared in single-use cups. After the first sip, I strongly disliked how mushy the boba was. Upon sipping more of the drink, I did like the flavor, which was decently sweet and more milky than tea-y (kind of like a sweet latte). The sweetness percent we chose was 30%, which was pretty sweet, so I'm glad we didn't get a higher percentage. If I come back, I would get just the drink without the boba and try a different tumbler (see Eco Notes below). ECO NOTES If you bring your own (BYO) clean reusable tumbler, they will accept it. Took off a star for their very confusing ordering system. The names of their drinks are not intuitive and the menu doesn't list what is in each drink so I felt like I was ordering blind. I had no idea if it was going to be a slushy, a tea, creamy or fruity! Still have no clue what cloud, boom and blast mean. Plus the store only had one small menu which is right at the register so it was a stressful ordering experience. Their website wasn't any more helpful in guiding me. HOWEVER, the drink we ended up getting (passionfruit blast) was delicious and perfect with less ice and less sweetness as recommended by the cashier. I really wanted to like heytea - it smelled nice walking in, I love teas, have been wanting to try heytea since I've heard good things, and absolutely adore Berkeley! we walked in and were not greeted, even though there was a guy behind the counter that wasn't doing anything and it wasn't busy on a weekday early afternoon. I greeted him and asked a question about an add on and he seemed confused at their own menu. Requested light ice but if half the container was ice. The drink was made to order and the little we got tasted good (mild, not sweet, matcha cream was nice) however it's incredibly pricey for what you get. While it was nice to have a screen to inform when it's ready, it also felt incredibly impersonal (I'm reduced to a number?). Honestly, this place is still starting out and has a lot to improve upon. The best HeyTea location I've been to is all the way in SJ. The milk teas is okay, there is a little too much tea. I usually don't like a lot of sweetness in my drinks, but it was just straight bland. They have oddly so many employees (like 6-8) working late night shifts when there are only 5 customers. HEYTEA makes amazing boba, and the quality of their drinks is a 5/5. I ordered the Matcha Supreme and Passionfruit Tea. Both drinks tasted amazing, the matcha was rich in flavor and the passionfruit tea had passionfruit seeds in it making the drink just feel more fresh. I have no complaints about the drinks. Another added benefit to HEYTEA is that they provide the calories for different drinks on their menu, at least in person, so it was helpful in maintaining my nutritional goals while still getting a sweet treat. The service was slightly above average. The workers were extremely nice and there was a lot of them so it did not take too long to make drinks. However, they would not always call out when a drink was completed. I noticed a drink had been finished and thought it was mine, but they did not call out my number or name, so I assumed it was just a mobile order and continued waiting. About 10-15 minutes later I asked the worker about my order and was given the same drink I had initially thought was mine. That wasted some time out of my day and annoyed me, but it was still worth it. Additionally, it was a little anxiety inducing ordering. CLUTCH!!!! I was visiting Berkeley for a campus tour and we had 1 hour to spare (leaving at 2:10), so I ordered on the HEYTEA app and the time was estimated 30 minutes. Perfect! Treaded the 20 minute walk from the campus to the location but the estimated time never went down! I had no idea that Wednesday was a BOGO so the surge in drinks that were ordered was taking longer than expected. It approached 1:55 and I had to ask for my drink to get expedited because the bus would leave me by the time I got it. Took them a second to find the receipt because of how far back it was but they did it! I got my drink at 2:04 and sprinted back to campus to get to my bus AT 2:09!!!! Absolutely compelled to type a review. This has to be the worst HeyTea location in the Bay Area. I always order the same drinks. And most of the time, ONE drink. It's either the crisp grape boom or the green grape boom with boba. And now, I always order in advance on the app. I ordered on the app for pick-up at this location of ONE drink (green grape boom with boba). App told me 6 minutes. Okay, cool. Thankfully, I had a driver with me so I didn't have to deal with parking (this location I admit is a great one as it is in the heart of downtown Berkeley). Driver sat with emergency lights on--cool, shouldn't take too long, right? I go inside the store and ask the worker... "uhh your drink isn't ready." THIRTY-EIGHT (38) minutes later, I finally receive my drink and I only received it after calling my driver and stating in Mandarin, "I have no idea what is wrong with this place. I ordered my matcha latte at the counter and sat down right in front of the screen that shows the order numbers. Within a minute, I saw my number so I thought...wow! That was fast. I proceeded to go to the counter and the female staff who was the same person who took my order said "oh it's not ready, it will be quite awhile." Then she just chuckled. I pointed to the screen and told her that I saw my number on the screen, then I sat back down. I made sure I kept an eye on the screen for my order. 20 minutes went by and my order number is still not on the screen. I asked the same female staff if my order was ready. She grabbed the drink among 6-7 other drinks on the counter and gave it to me. I don't even know how long my drink has been sitting there. The screen never showed my order number except for the very first time I saw it a minute after the order was placed. That staff also didn't even bother to let me know that my order was ready. Horrible service! The place is also filthy. If you sit on the bench and look around instead of looking down on the phone, you will see that the floor and the counter area need cleaning.
