Our furnace died and we're using space heaters until it can be replaced. Running more than one space heater trips our circuit breakers, so I contacted Meigs to see if he could help. Even though he currently doesn't have the resources to do my project, he explained that in addition to upgrading the original mid-1950's electric panel and circuit breaker panel, we may also need dedicated circuits. He's the only electrician, out of three that I've contacted, to bring that up. He also gave me two referrals. I am not used to this type of helpfulness and just wanted to give him a shout out on Yelp for others who are looking for an honorable electrician. read more

Can't do the work, because he's booked up for months - that's typical of electricians - but can refer you to another electrician that's bigger and can make appointments (I'll review them after they actually get here), and in the meantime is very courteous and helpful in suggesting diagnoses for the problem you describe to him over the phone. read more

Meigs took to our job like it was his own and I knew after our initial phone conversation that I had found my electrician. Meigs offered suggestions and improvements to my initial concept. Communication was excellent and scheduling our job was done right away. Bryan came out to my home to really dial in the actual work needed and we together worked out a very workable plan. Very understanding of this DIY'ers needs. Both Bryan and Alex did such a good job and I couldn't have been more happy with the results. read more

I've used Hewlett Electric for a number of jobs over the past 13 years. Meigs is very easy to work with and his team always goes above and beyond to ensure the job is high quality. read more

I called Meigs a couple years back to install a couple ceiling fans at my townhome and they did a great, clean job. I thought I reviewed them then- guess not- long overdue! These guys are professional and do a great job. The quality of the work is superb and they really make an effort to do minimize collateral damage. I called them back this year since San Jose seems to be getting hotter! I needed 2 ceiling fans installed in my upstairs bedrooms. I have an older townhome so there are no celing fixtures only switch activated wall plugs. They installed ceiling fans in both rooms- re-routed and connected the switch to activate the ceiling fan and made the switch outlet an independent live outlet- all of this work and only 2 small holes! Very Impressed! I highly recommend them! read more

We couldn't be any more happier in choosing Hewlett Electric to install LED recessed lighting with dimmers in our home! From start to finish, we experienced excellent customer service and communication! When we were looking for estimates, Meigs was very informative over the phone. I also asked if we could get somebody to come to our house to see our recessed lighting project and house layout, and he instantly arranged a home visit for Bryan to come by. Bryan was very clear and informative about our project, and he answered all of our questions. After getting multiple estimates from different electricians, my wife and I both knew that Hewlett Electric were definitely the right people for our project. Bryan and Alex worked at our house for 3 days; installing a total of 31 canned lights with dimmers. They were always on time, and they always cleaned up at the end of the day. Bryan and Alex are very professional and extremely knowledgeable in what they do; they could probably install recessed lighting blindfolded! We even added a small project for Bryan and Alex to do for us on top of our original project, and they more than willingly completed that for us as well! Thanks again Hewlett Electric, our house is so bright now; installing the LED recessed lighting with dimmers made a HUGE difference in our home! We made the right choice choosing you guys, and we will definitely be using you for all our future electrician needs! read more

Got a quick and professional referral. They were fully booked for two months, but they gave me a referral to another high quality electrician in under a two hours. Very responsive and professional. read more

Meigs gave a good quote and was good with communication and setting up of the schedule. Bryan and team [ 3 people] came to add 7 recess lights in my house. They knew their work. They took a lot of time to identify studs and plan. As a result there was less number of holes to patch at my home. They also fixed a receptacle in my Kitchen Island for free. read more

Meigs, Alex, and Amberly went above and beyond to help take a look at the wiring and outlets in our newly purchased house, then installed some recessed lights to help brighten up the space. They were on time, communicative, super efficient, really knowledgeable, and fun to have around. We love how everything looks. On top of that, all of the work done was super transparent- Meigs let us know any time there was the option to add or change something and exactly how much it would cost at that second. No pressure to make any changes if we didn't want to- we were working with a tight budget. He and Alex also made really helpful suggestions, so making decisions was a snap. The house was neat and tidy when they left. We'll definitely be doing any future electrical work with this team. Definitely recommend them. read more

Meig helped talked me through a possible bad transformer on a doorbell problem on Memorial day. Didn't charge me a penny.

Happy New Year 2020! I am so thankful to Hewlett Electric! Long story short - Meigs and his team are the best! if you are in need of any electrical services, hire them without any second thoughts. Story - A week before Christmas, our refrigerator stopped working. Initially I thought that it was an electrical issue and so called Meigs (Hewlett Electric had helped with our remodeling multiple times in the past). When I explained my problems to him, he mentioned that he was completely booked for the next month and gave me a couple of references. However, he took the time to talk to me about my problem and tried to diagnose the problem. He told me that it's either an electrical issue or an issue with the refrigerator itself. I called his references and got an appointment for the next evening. The best part was that Meigs called me within half an hour to check if his references responded or not. When I told him that my appointment is not until next day, he suggested I call an appliance repair guy on the same day so that I will know if it is an issue with my refrigerator. I would give him 100 stars just for that follow-up call. I took his suggestion and called an appliance guy and he concluded that my refrigerator had died and its not an electrical issue. I cannot thank Meigs enough! I was even more surprised that Meigs had remembered my family and it was so nice to have a business care so much about its customers!! read more

They gave us an estimate of $150 per outlet (since we had a crawlspace), and stuck to that estimate. 3 outlets grounded, $450 total, no extra fees or costs added on at the last minute. They did good work, reasonably quick, and cleaned up afterwards, and left no marks on the floors or walls. Everything looks good as new. My only problem is they showed up early, and I was still in the shower. :( But that's more my fault than theirs, I shouldn't be such a lazy bum. But when you make your appointment, be prepared for them to show up 20-30 minutes earlier. read more

The Yelp reviews don't lie. This is a fantastic business and they do great work. I had them replace a really tacky gold chandelier in my living room with track lighting. Meigs came out for a quote, and I was able to get the repair done that same day. They are professional, and the work is outstanding. They stand by their quote, and they are not out to screw anyone over. Very honest, and I would totally use them again. read more

Over the years I have hired several contractors for my home and not sure if it is just bum luck but I have had major issues with nearly all of them. Meigs Hewlett is the first guy that not only took the time to get the job done right, but he also checked back later to make sure my wife and I were completely happy. Not only is he the nicest, most trustworthy guy I have ever worked with, he takes the time to explain everything he plans on doing and why he did it. To give just one example of how strong the customer service is, I had called to ask him a question about some electrical work I did on my own with a switch. He actually stopped by on his way home and looked over my work. He gave some input and let me know that the box I was using in the wall was probably not the best and that i should use a different type. I'm so glad i called him. The funny thing is that when i tried to pay him for stopping by, he said...don't worry about it and that he wanted to make sure I did it right. He wouldn't take my money! Top notch guy all around and I would not hesitate having him do any electrical work for us. read more

We had a great experience working with Hewlett Electric. I emailed them on their web-site and heard back from Meigs in about an hour. We discussed our request to have under cabinet LED lighting installed in our kitchen and Meigs gave me a quote over the phone. He even gave a great recommendation on where to purchase the equipment needed for the job. We scheduled a time for Hewlett to come out in a week to do the work. Meigs called me a couple of days later and let me know that they had an opening sooner, which we were able to accommodate. Kurt showed up on time and did a great job with replacing the LED under cabinet lights and wall switch. I worked out a deal with Meigs and Kurt to have them change out a bathroom fan while Kurt was on-site. Kurt was able to handle this last minute request as well. Here is the BEST part...When Kurt was packing up to leave he noticed that our rain gutters in front of our house were over flowing (He was on-site during one of the Winter storms in December '14). Kurt offered to help remove the debris from the gutter and got up on his ladder to pull out the leaves and mud that were the source of the clog. Now THAT is what I call customer service!! I highly recommend Hewlett Electric for their electrical expertise, pricing and quality customer service. read more

We called them on Sunday and left a message about our project. They called back within 5 minutes to let us know they are booked up for two weeks and wanted us to know that up front. VERY PROFESSIONAL and another great indicator (beyond all these other great Yelp reviews) that these guys understand good customer service. We will use them in the future when we have more time and they do as well. read more

This is an excellent, well-run business that I would give 10 stars if I had the opportunity. They are really that good. We had Hewlett Electric install recessed lighting in our living room and it couldn't have been done any better, from the way they were able to give us the time and information we needed to make a good decision all the way through to the installation. If you are looking for a fantastic business that backs up their work and has great customer service, then you don't need to look further. We had spoken to a number of contractors prior to going with Hewlett Electric. In fact, since this company has such wonderful and consistently high reviews on Yelp, it was not difficult to make the decision to go with them. Thankfully, we were not disappointed. Gary and Kurt came out to do the work. Originally, we had a good idea of how many lights we wanted installed and the location for where they would be installed. However, after talking for over 90 minutes about what we wanted, it was clear that our original ideas were not as clear and effective as what Gary and Kurt had suggested. This all happened while I was at work and my wife was home, serving as the project manager. Gary and Kurt suggested to my wife that we should think it over because they wanted my wife and I to be sure of where and what we wanted installed. It was a pretty big job and they wanted us to be comfortable with the decision. Here's where their customer service is so incredible. They told my wife to think about it and they would come back another day after we made a decision. Fearing that they would not get paid for the day because we needed more time for my wife to contact me and for us to make that decision, she told them that she felt bad and that perhaps we should just go with our original idea because we wanted the lights anyhow and she didn't think it was fair to just cancel on them. But what Gary and Kurt said was so uplifting. They told my wife to not worry about whether they got paid, there would be some kind of work that they could still do that day, and that the most important thing was for us to be happy and to make an informed decision. I don't find many businesses that are willing to sacrifice a sale in the short term in order for the customer to feel they made the right decision in the long term. But that's what Gary and Kurt did. They were great examples of listening to the customer and making sure that the customer had all the facts before making a decision. And that's one example of a well-run establishment. Thank you Hewlett Electric, and also Gary and Kurt, for your wonderful work. read more

Meigs came by and gave a quote and a work order on a house my wife and I are moving into. Bryan (business partner) came by and fixed an open neutral, added an outlet, and grounded a bunch of outlets. The work is top notch, strictly professional. give great competitve prices, they stick by their quote, explain everything thoroughly and they do top quality work. I would highly recommend them to anyone for electrical work. They know their stuff. They have a minimum 200 dollar call charge for the type of work I was doing, as 2 people were involved. Why 5 stars from me: Do they fulfill their job with integrity? - yes (2 stars) Do i like the food/service - would I use them / eat there again? - yes (+1 star) Would I unreservedly recommend them to friends? - yes (+1 star) Are they crème de la crème / peerless? - yes (+1 star) read more

This is the kind of experience where at the end of it you say This world is still ok! People like Meigs who did not only call before he came but came right on time and spend over half an hour to try to figure out the problem. Said at the end that if it was my house I wouldn't do anything . it cost way more than its worth.. 2 Electricians before gave me an estimate for a new panel at cost of close to $5000 and told me if I don't do it soon a fire could happen while you are sleeping. God bless honest people like him. read more

Electrical stuff is complicated and not something you want to be doing yourself (unless you really know what you're doing) or trusting to a company because they are the cheapest option... THESE are the guys you want working on your electrical. They have a lot of experience and do a really thorough job while keeping you informed. When we bought our house originally 4 years ago, we had Hewlett re-wire the whole house and ground all the outlets as it was super outdated with cloth wiring or something like that. They did a great job and it's been working well since. So when we wanted to update our house this year with recessed lighting throughout, we called them back up. These guys showed up on time and even finished the job earlier than schedule. They coordinated with the guys who were removing our popcorn ceiling. They billed us $100 less than the quote because they said they had built in $100 in case of an unforeseen issues and there were none. We had them take down 2 ceiling fans, replace another ceiling fan and add about 30 cans throughout the house. You can tell that they love what they do- really friendly and fun group of guys. Our ceilings now look fantastic and the lighting makes the house look so much better. Bonus: you can pay by credit card so I racked up some points/miles too :) read more

I've called Meigs from Hewlett Electric twice for two separate jobs and he has always called me back promptly. I had Megis and Bryan come out to my house to look at some electrical problems I was having. After listening to my description of the problem and entertaining my hunches, Megis and Bryan got to work and tightened a loose wire in my breaker box, replaced a faulty GFI, removed another GFI from a daisy chain of GFIs which was causing the GFI to trip. They also diagnosed a bad irrigation system. They did all of this on the same Saturday I called them. I thought the work was good, and the price reasonable. Megis also stressed to me at the time and in a follow-up phone call that if I had any problems not to hesitate to call. He was very clear to let me know that my satisfaction was important to them and that he would take care of me should I have any further problems. I can recommend Hewlett Electric with confidence. read more

Work: Running cables along the attic and through walls to new rooms. First off, the entire crew is extremely friendly, respectful, and helpful. Not only are they pleasant to deal with, but they are all efficient, punctual, professional, and willing to explain in detail the work they are doing. On top of it all, their pricing is very fair (had a few estimates before choosing Hewlett) and they will recommend the best options to you (whether it brings them business or not, at least in my dealings with them). My experience was a bit unique as I had them come out twice to run the cables into rooms that previously had no outlets, through the attic. The first time they came out and ran the wires cleanly with no hitch. They finished in less then a few hours even though the work was fairly extensive through a small attic and inbetween different walls. But I asked them to use an old wire that I had to save some money, since long wires can be expensive (huge mistake). We tested the televisions and everything worked fine before they left. Within a couple days, I was having some issues with internet. I had Comcast come out and test the wiring in multiple places and found that the cable I had provided could not handle the bandwidth high speed internet needed (felt pretty stupid at this point). I called up Meigs and asked for his advice and how much it would cost to re-run the wire. He gave me the options and told me he would re-run the wire for FREE!!! They came out again within a few days and re-ran the wire within an hour, again cleanly and without any issues. We tested everything a bit more thoroughly this time and found no issues. Now everything works great, and I couldn't be more happy. I highly recommend Hewlett Electric if you are looking for a fair, professional electrician you can trust. At the very least, they will give you great advice! read more

Hewlett Electric is the best. To a one they are extremely diligent, conscientious, knowledgeable, punctual, timely, respectful, friendly, and funny. They also guarantee their work besides!! They came when they said they would to do the estimate. The estimate was written with a diagram and each service was itemized. They scheduled the work in advance and told me how long it would take. Then the work took exactly how long they estimated it would, they listened to what I wanted, and did beautiful work. Yay!!! They went above and beyond (10+ stars) as well. For instance, they helped me find and schedule plaster finish guys AND even came back after the painter just to hang a pendant light. Other reviewers mention the price. When I interviewed/got estimates from other electricians, Hewlett's prices were in the same range. When I interviewed handymen, their estimates were much less. read more

Work: installed 3 ceiling fans Meigs and his crew did a great job for us. The work was high quality, very detail-oriented, and done in a timely fashion. The price was also very reasonable. If we ever get off our lazy butts and decide on a lighting solution for our living room, we will certainly give Meigs a call. read more

Meigs is awesome. He is honest and spends a lot of time assessing your needs. He comes out and checks out what you need so you'd get a very accurate quote. I am very satisfied and will highly recommend them. read more

I planned to buy a far infrared sauna and the unit required a dedicated 120V 20A outlet. Meigs was not the first electrician to give me a quote and consultation. However, he was the first one to point out that I did not really need any work done. You could also say he was the only person to point that out because I didn't ask for any more quotes. Meigs mentioned that all bathrooms should have a 20A circuit. As long as nothing else was drawing power from any of the outlets of _all_ bathrooms, the sauna usage would be fine. Meigs is personable, honest and fair. Unfortunately, after his advice, I did not have a real job for him. However, if one comes up, I would not hesitate to call Meigs again. read more

Very responsive and excellent craftsmanship! Brian really knew his stuff! Meigs was great in lining things up and fitting us into their calendar at the last minute. Great guys to work with. Thought I had already Yelped them for work they did in the summer of 2012. They replaced an electrical panel, a few GFCI outlets, installed a light in a dim room prior to our move in into a home we had purchased. Meigs came out and quoted the job. Bryan and Kurt came out and did the work. They were amazing. They did a great job on the panel. most impressive was the work they did on the installing the light . They fished the wall and ceiling and were minimally invasive. They cut 3 access points, the switch, the light fixture, and one other spot to center the light in the room! Incredible! I would call them back in a heart beat! read more

I cannot say enough good things about the work these folks do, so completely awesome. Hire them today. I had them come out and replace my breaker panel inside the house, wire up a bunch of can lights in my kitchen and livingroom, and install an EV charger in the garage. Meigs came out to take a look at the projects and give me a quote, he was thorough and very friendly. He didn't try to oversell me on any work, and gave me his opinion when he didn't think certain upgrades were worth the money. I really appreciated his honesty and his detailed quote. He made sure that I understood when the crew would come out, confirmed the date while he was in the house, and left me with a short to-do list so I was ready when they arrived. Awesome! Bryan, Alex and Luis showed up for 3 days straight, and were very friendly. We had some complications about where the lights could be placed because of ductwork in the ceiling, and they were all very helpful in weighing the options with me. They gave opinions when I asked and I were extremely helpful overall. Now let me comment on their precise workmanship. The first night I arrived home to find 2 can lights installed in one area and one very small hole above the switch, no other mark in the ceiling. I fully expected much more wallboard repair work would have been needed. All of their work was precise, well measured and clean. No complaints at all. They covered all furniture, and swept and vacuumed everything when they were done. I couldn't have asked for more. The EV charger was a difficult job as it needed upgraded wiring and my garage is detached. The work they did there was completely functional and beautiful. I would recommend this company to anyone needing any electrical work done, you are in good hands with these guys! read more

Meigs solved a mystery problem I was having with fluorescent lamps in my kitchen. For some reason they were burning out far sooner than they were supposed to. I called Hewlett based upon their reviews on Yelp. Meigs came out looked at the burned out fluorescent lamps and did some investigating. He hypothesized that the original electrician who had wired my lamps gave me the wrong wattage for the bulbs. Meigs disassembled one of the recessed lamp sockets to be absolutely sure. Sure enough, hidden from my view was the wattage. Not only is Meigs on time, courteous, and honest, he is also willing to think a bit harder than any other electrician I know to solve quirky problems, and has the skills to properly implement and verify his solutions! Working with Hewlett Electric was an absolute pleasure and I can definitely say my new house is 100% more beautiful and efficient because of them. I had them do quite a bit of work which including demoing old incandescent and halogen lights and installing all LED. They also took down 2 hideous chandeliers and replaced them with new ones I'd purchased. I have 20 foot ceilings and one chandelier was an enormous piece of track lighting so this was not easily done. They also replaced nearly all of the outlet and switch plate covers because they were painted an aweful color. The crew was always early and very personable to work with. I honestly felt like I could've left my newborn baby (if I had one) with them; that's how much I trusted them. They do get a bit booked up but that is because they are so good at what they do. Their work is quality and they are extremely fair with their prices. I will not go anywhere else for electrical in the future. read more
