Really an awesome experience! It was calm and comfortable inside. Outside seating however inside was super comfortable and nice to be out of the heat. The owners were friendly and welcoming. I loved my iced chai and so did my son! Absolutely delicious the coffee cake was out of this world and I'm not a huge fan of coffee cake in general. It was warmed a little and had some butter on top which made it simply incredible!!!! The cherry vanilla smoothie was yummy and the coffee was decent. The absolutely best part of our experience was the veggie omelette! I couldn't have wanted a better omelette! It had spinach and onions and asparagus with some peppers and cheese. I got the three eggs and easily ate it up. It came with two pieces of delicious toast and yummy jelly. Also the potatoes were flavorful too! Had the most bizarre interaction here today. The menu said oriental chicken salad $8.99 so I ordered that. To the left of the menu it says add $2 to menu items for all prices so I was expecting to pay $10.99. She rang me up for $13.99 and when I asked why she just became irate and said, "Get out of here I don't want to piss you off,"...it was completely out of nowhere and we were taken aback considering I just asked the price. Whenever I'm back in Redlands visiting my parents, I make a trip to Heskas for my usual: Mocha Frappe with the Spicy Mongolian Beef and Oriental Salad combo. This time I took my dog Yuki with me for a lunch date at their Bark Park. Joe, Heska's husband, was super sweet and went out of his way to accommodate Yuki with a water bowl and a Milkbone. We found Heska's on Yelp and visit twice last week - once on our way up to Big Bear and then on the way down. We really enjoyed meeting Heska (we discovered that she was a nutritionist and her passion for good food. We really enjoyed our sandwiches, a tuna melt and a Mongolian BBQ on fresh baked rolls. Yum! As soon as the lady started taking my order, she was giving me attitude, I was about to walk out right then and there, I should have. She was not nice and welcoming at all, basically to the tone of "what do you want?". She seemed stressed, but don't take it out on the customer. I ordered a grilled ham and cheese, half chicken salad sandwich, and a large iced coffee. I had checked the menu online before hand, the order should have been around $24 after taxes, I was charged $29. I thought it was strange but figured I'd pay and then look at the receipt. I asked the lady for a receipt but she had gone to the back to keep working on orders, and she said okay she'd give me one. It took about 30 minutes to get my order, the food tasted really good though (which is why I gave 2 stars and not 1). Portion size was really small, and I'd rather go somewhere else with a bigger portion size. Right before leaving, I asked for an itemized receipt again, and she basically said she can't give me one because it's been too long since the order was placed. I didn't want to argue, so I just walked out and ate the $5 loss. Would not come again. read more

We were coming back from Big Bear and discovered Heska's Sugar Shack and what a lucky find!! We had the most delicious Monday brunch our veggie omelettes were perfectly cooked,the homemade country potatoes were amazing, and the homemade bread is to die for. Not only was our food delicious, Heska and Joe made us feel right at home ( I felt like helping her with the dishes) and we had a wonderful conversation with them. The atmosphere is strange. Dirty tables and general uncleanliness. The man is always watching Fox News. ALWAYS. I've been here multiple times since 2014 since the food is good. Another review mentioned seeing the man touch food with his bare hands and I would believe it 100%. I don't think I can come back here without feeling grossed out. read more

Heska's is such a quaint sole proprietor restaurant! And the owners are hands-on involved and caring. We sat at the south end of the restaurant; it was like having our own private dining room (see pic of our view - very homey). On this visit we had the Beef Dip and Western Omelet. The Beef Dip was quite good. There was an ample amount of sliced beef, which was quite tender and flavorful by itself. The grilled onions added the right amount of tang. The Au Jus was quite a bit more than beef drippings - very rich, the right amount of saltiness and approached a Demi-Glace. The bread soaked up the Au Jus appropriately. We also had a cup of Chicken Vegetable soup. Overall, the soup was okay. It had a mild flavor, yet the chicken was cooked well and the chunky vegetables were firm. The Western Omelet was okay. The egg portion of the omelet was on the thin side, there was ample cheese and ham. The ham was quite flavorful and melded well with the cheese. The country potatoes looked great but lacked flavor and salt (salt can always be added). The salsa was particularly flavorful and had a good amount of heat. We enjoy Heska's and will be back. read more

Super cute support your small business. This is a little place don't miss it.. husband and wife run this little shop. Bread is homemade daily for the sandwiches. Breakfast and lunch served here while I was there the place was empty but they had lots of phone orders. Hospitality's here is awesome super nice owners. I had coffee which was locally grown and freshly ground which tasted great. Our next visit will be for breakfast biscuits and gravy. Stay tuned for the update. read more

Hidden gem. I would have never stopped at this location if I did not yelp it looking for a coffee shop on our way home from Big Bear. It was the perfect place for a quick to go breakfast which consisted of coffee, bagels and blueberry and banana nut muffins. There were many other options to chose from. I feel bad writing this review since I want to support local businesses. However, today, I went to Heska's for the first time in the 20 years I have lived in this area. The lady who took my order was amiable, but she appeared to be flustered. I ordered a waffle to go with a coffee drink. While I was waiting, I watched what was happening in the kitchen. The cook was grilling some meat, and I saw him flip the meat with his hands and not kitchen tools. Afterward, he took my waffle from the iron and put it into my to-go container again with his bare hands. I did not see him wash his hands. When I got home, I tried the waffle, which was raw in the middle. At least my coffee drink was good. I do not think I will be going back, and it is a real shame. read more
