Terrible experience 2 yrs ago at Hertz Sioux Falls SD. Our car had dings. Not much said regarding that by the counter employee. The tire sensor light came on in the outbacks of MN. The 2 front tires we metal on metal. Very dangerous. We ended up having to replace the tires at a Discount Tire as we could not drive further this way. We were never reimbursed the $ 456.20 for the two tires. Beowulf nor Tyler returned our numerous phone calls as we tried to resolve this. We went higher up in the company and submitted the receipts as requested. We also went to the BBB. No response & no tire refund. 0 star rating. read more

I liked that I could choose any car from about a 16 cars in the lot. I had no trouble with the actual car or shuttle to the lot, although there were two cars that could have been cleaned better. My problem is I was charged a Colorado safety program fee of $26 that was not included in my prepaid price. As a rental agent in that state, they must be aware of the fee and I should have been apprised so I could compare fees among different agencies. read more

They were dishonest about the terms of rental when we picked up the vehicle. We were assured there was unlimited mileage and when we returned the price was almost twice what we were told. The vehicle otherwise was well cared for and clean. Dishonesty is something I just cannot tolerate. read more

I want to Shout out for WAYNE STOTTS , the manager at the Hertz location, Sioux Falls Airport. He was super super helpful in getting us swap the car. When the Hertz Customer service, Roadside assistance and Hertz at Rapid City Regional Airport wasted our lot of time and refused to help us as our car had a flat tire. We (3 of us) on different calls with Hertz wasted our 2 hours and still did not help. We had to drive from Rapid City to Chicago - 15 hours drive and when we did not get any help, we thought we will keep filling the air in the tire and keep driving. We then called Hertz at Sioux Falls Airport and the manager (Wayne Stotts) answered the call and we explained the issue. He immediately said that they can make it to the Sioux Falls airport and he will be happy to swap the car for us. He said that he will have the car ready by the time we arrive. (He helped us on the call in 10mins) where others did not help us being on calls for 2 hrs. He also mentioned that his colleague will be aware of the situation in case he is not there when we reach. On arrival, as promised, he had the car ready. And we were able to swap and be out of there in less that 30 mins. The best part was he followed up with me few times after the rental if everything was okay or? If we had any problems with the final bill and also kept guiding us what we will see on out credit card statement and how that will go away in few days. I guess he had to do some transactions and refund as per Hertz policy. But, guess - we got the best experience with Him (Wayne Stotts). This experience that I had this past week is factual, & only meant for owners of this private Hertz establishment to understand when an educated human being who's used to travel & rental cars weekly is faced with not 1 but 2 separate deadly incidents as a result of this business. My flight came in on Monday this past week & no rental car because I booked to the wrong airport by my company. My company is Hertz gold member. I walked over & asked, any available cars to drive Sioux City IA 80 miles south. The representative was helpful & got car assigned, dodge charger, muscle car, rear wheel drive. walking out, the manager says to me "you probably don't want to be driving the car back to this airport on Thursday." When I asked why, he informed me there is a blizzard hitting next day. I was down for business in Sioux City, IA til Thursday. I asked if I could drop the car off at different location & change flight to different airport since it looks like blizzard will cancel my flight there. manager said oh absolutely, there's a phone number on receipt. call that number & inform us you're making the drop off at different location, a local number & someone will be available to help. I drove 80 miles to Sioux City. next day at end of day. I was told to book airfare through Omaha Nebraska. I purchased ticket flying out of Omaha. around 6 o'clock I called number for the Sioux Falls Hertz & let them know that I changed flight to avoid blizzard there. the person line asked a few questions about Omaha, then he informed me it would be $1600.00 to turn car in to Hertz Omaha airport. I was in shock, & when asked why he informa me that Sioux Falls, SD hertz is privately owned location so either turn it in to their location, or pay $1600 charge to drop at Omaha. I was so angry because even though this is Company dollars, my company would not approve. I then told this man (who kept repeating the $1600.00 charge- no apologies, no nothing- he's well versed in presenting surprise fees) that I had no choice but drive car back to Sioux Falls to turn car in & would try to Uber back to Sioux City Iowa & get a rental car there. I angrily told man I was heading there now & would see in 2 hours. perhaps one of the most egregious behaviors I've ever experienced with a company was this person didnt inform me that there is a blizzard already started. This manager knew Im driving a Dodge charger, rear wheel through 80 miles of blizzard to them. 30 miles into drive north I faced a white wall of snow, ice & winds. I got there in one piece, no damages to car or to my body. Once at airport it was abandoned, there was the just floor shiner, enterprise desk w/employee & 1 employee at hertz (same man who gave me the car the day before) I walked up with key in hand barely able to get through the parking lot in snow & put the key down telling that person I cannot believe what I just drove through risking my life to get here. this man apologized after knowing I couldn't bring it back, knowing the amount of charge, it would be to turn it in elsewhere, & knowingly, letting me drive back through blizzard without so much as a word. After turning the car in & seeing stranded airport- I had reserved an Uber. once there my ride was canceled and no other drivers were available. Lyft also canceled no drivers. I had no choice except to sleep in the airport and ride the storm out until that Saturday. (This was Tuesday) and there was no food or drink available since all businesses were shut down. I observed two people outside who looked like they were also stranded, and they began a walk to try to find a gas station. The only saving grace that I ended up with was that I saw the enterprise employee who I ran up to, and yes, they had a vehicle one front wheel drive, I took it immediately, because his advice was, either get in the car and get out of here now or you're stuck here till Saturday left in 2 1/2 hours later made it to my destination -and no idea how I did it...but this privately owned Hertz will be made aware of the extremely dangerous situation you put a single female mother and seasoned traveler (thank god) in with zero help or guidance. I also believe that the managers assistance in getting me into a car Tuesday was knowing that I could not return the car back to that dealer and they were more than happy to take that $1600 out of my pocket and forcing me to drop it off somewhere else. Lesson learned. I've contacted my own corporate company to let them know to switch services due to what happened to me. I am sending word to corporate and the private business to document this situation in detail. Please RENT WITH CAUTION, understanding They do not honor, drop off that other locations without absorbent charges because they are not part of the national corporate Hertz. And more importantly, they will not inform you of this, until you have taken the car. read more

$9/gal if you forget to pay for gas. They definitely aren't trying remind you to do it either. Thought I had a trusted rental company looking out for me, definitely not impressed by their lack of concern for people after they get your money. Make them come out and sign off on your drop off in front of you. That seems to be the most common way they charge people A LOT of money for questionable reasons (definitely no small charges). They love just having you drop off the key and walk away, it lets them charge you with no way to prove your side, unless you take photos when you drop it off with the vin and gas tank, etc.. So TAKE PHOTOS (they charged me a full tank of gas!! ($150 @8.99/gal) ouch! I was pretty sure it was full.. read more

This is by far the most unprofessional stuff that works at this location. They tell you nothing - the don't explain charges, they over charge your credit card and then don't even have the curtesy to rerun your money . One start is for the actual car that was very clean . Horrible. I paid $258 for Nissan Altima for 4 days (Sat-Wed) plus I paid $29.95 separately for the full tank of gas the car came with. But what they didn't tell me is that they put a $220 hold charge on your credit card (not is that anywhere itemized on your receipt) and that I don't need a full tank of gas go get around in Sioux Falls for the 4 days I was there bcz everything is max 10 min drive away. I used 1/4 tank, for the 4 days but paid for full tank. They gave me no refund for the unused gas. Very shady and not very customer oriented. Will never use again. read more

I'm not shocked to read how poorly this place gets reviewed. I booked a one way car rental on the Hertz app for $52 from Sioux Falls to Minneapolis. Following the trip, this office randomly charged me an insane amount of $875.23 stating that their system reported the car was suppose to be returned to Sioux Falls. This office is telling me the one day rate is $875.23 and even though there was a mistake in the app system, they are still charging me that massive amount and won't refund it. Even if it were a valid charge, they are clearly illegally price gouging. read more

I had reserved a car earlier that day through my insurance after a car accident and had a friend drive me 60 miles to go pick it up only to have them tell me it was suddenly cancelled. I normally rent from Enterprise but they had no cars nor did their partners. Hertz had the only available rental car in the entire town. I was quoted $200/day but they gave it to me for $175. My flight was severely delayed but they stayed late to make sure people from my flight could pick up their cars. When you call the phone # listed, it goes to the actual staff at the airport, not some reservation hotline in India. They were super helpful & accommodating. I got a brand new car to drive which was great because there was no taxi service nor Uber which is just crazy! read more

This lady at the Souix Falls airport Hertz rental car, said she owns the cars. We were told we had a car for rent, we get there she tells us there are no cars. So we waited and when we were leaving she came up to us, tried to grab me!!!!! She threatened us that she would call security on us.. We didn't do shit, worst "owner". You do NOT have the right to try and grab someone by the arm when we didn't do anything. Don't ever go there, the OWNER is soooo rude. On a recent trip to South Dakota from Nevada to attend my Uncle's funeral, my cousin rented a car from Hertz. We split the cost. I give them a star for upgrading us to a RAV4. The car was clean and in good condition. We drove to the funeral and stayed 2 days at a local hotel, then returned the car in the same condition as when we picked it up. The gas tank was full, the car was clean and unblemished. When we checked it in they did not come outside to inspect it nor did we think to take photos of it. Imagine our surprise, disbelief, then outrage to get a notification that we were being charged for body damage to the vehicle! They have ignored requests to send photos of the "damage". What a hoax!! The only reason I gave them one star is because the car itself was pristine. What a scam! I will never rent from Hertz. I will always take photos upon picking up and dropping off a rental. I will insist that someone from the rental agency inspect the car. read more

I was rear ended and the other person's insurance paid for a rental while my truck was fixed. Ended up going through Hertz and the vehicle was very nice. That's where the praise ends. The body shop had to haul me and 2 kids to the airport as Hertz would not bring the vehicle to the shop. Had the vehicle a week and I vacuumed, washed, and gassed it up before I brought it back to the body shop when my truck was done (they ultimately brought it back to the Hertz airport location as I had all 6 kids in the rented minivan and didn't have a way to drop it off myself without a second driver). A couple days later I saw a charge from Hertz hit my bank account. I called and was told they put 3 gallons of gas in it (I had filled it before I left to drop it off) and charged me over $7 a gallon. I asked for a refund as I had filled it, washed it, vacuumed it out of my own pocket before I dropped it off. I was told by Zach that "there is a gas station (about a block) from Hertz". Implying that I should have driven it there myself, filled and up and what, WALKED back to the body shop 4 miles away with 6 young children? I told him that was unreasonable and that I needed that $24 back in my checking account. He absolutely refused. NEVER. AGAIN. I WILL NEVER, EVER ACCEPT Hertz as a rental company no matter what. A vacation that was enjoyable turned into a nightmare nearly a month after using the Sioux Falls Hertz office. They filed a claim for hail damage allegedly during the time I had the vehicle. They reported $1,500 in damage stating that the date of loss, I was three hours from SF in Aberdeen where there were no hail storms. I turned in the car before their office opened because my flight left before any Hertz personnel were available to inspect the vehicle! Based on the photos provided me, I could not detect any hail damage. This is a case of taking advantage of an out of state customer living in Florida! I plan to ask my legal counsel and my insurance carrier to contest this very obvious BOGUS claim for their personal benefit! Stay away from this local Hertz in Sioux Falls (airport)! read more

The car was as described, and was clean and well-maintained. The service was speedy and efficient, and I felt very comfortable renting from them and felt like they valued my patronage and overall experience. My experience with most rental car companies are the same. However, I had a very bad experience with Hertz at he Sioux Falls airport on 12/22/2017. I was about to rent a vehicle when I realized that Hertz was nearly twice as expensive as Budget for the same vehicle. So I canceled my Hertz reservation and went with the cheaper Budget rental car. Little did I realize that Hertz would hold $821 of my money hostage over the Christmas holiday. I didnt even rent the car from Hertz, yet they put an $821 authorization on my credit card and refused to release it for what ever reason they could come up with. Im quite certain they were upset that I went to a neighboring car rental company instead of booking with them. I tried a dozen times with Hertz and my bank to get the authorization released to no avail. Hertz advised me that when I signed the rental agreement it stated that the authorizaton could take upto 30 days to go away. But my contract was not a contract if I didnt rent a car from them? Well, this is an exception as I had an excellent experience with Hertz at Sioux Falls Airport, in which the agent saved my vacation. I am posting below the email that I sent to the manager at this location. I wanted to write you to let you know that one of your employees made our Christmas vacation go from bad to great in the matter of a few minutes. On 12/23, my wife, 2 kids and I, flew into Sioux Falls to visit family for Christmas. Our plane was late leaving Phoenix and therefore arrived late to Sioux Falls. We had a reservation at one of the other rental companies. I called that company ahead of time to let them know that we would be arriving late, and the agent informed me that he would stay until 11:45 pm. I had also called another company prior to leaving Phoenix and he informed me that the airport "kicks them out" at 11:30. Our plane landed at 11:43 and I called the desk where we had a reservation immediately, which was received with no answer and a voice mail. So at this point, I was sweating. Once the plane docked and I disembarked I sprinted to the rental counter to find that the lights were on at only one location, Hertz. This is where I met Stacey. So I explained to her my situation, including what the other agents had told me and she informed me that the airport does not lock the doors until the last flight has landed and all passengers are departed. She also informed me that the agent of the other company left promptly at 11:30 pm and told her "I have 3 or 4 more reservations, you can have them." Stacey told me that whenever she has reservations, she stays until they are completed, which I consider an extremely good business practice. Luckily, we were able to secure a vehicle that comfortably accommodated my family and our luggage. Stacey also asked me about a corporate code, which I had, but did not remember the number. She took the time to look it up by company name which saved us a little on the rental fee. Stacey was so extremely helpful, which relaxed me greatly in a stressful situation. I just want to take this moment to personally thank Stacey, and to thank you for hiring such caring employees who go above and beyond their call of duty to make sure travelers have an enjoyable trip. It definitely made my trip more enjoyable despite having to spend a few hundred dollars more than planned. It was well worth it. I will be more inclined to use Hertz from this point on. read more

I went in to rent a car and the lady I talked to was very nice. I went through the process to get the rental setup and when it came time to process my devit card did not have the authorized funds. I had the cash to pay it but because I bank at a place which doesn't have any branches here I couldn't deposit it into my account. I then left trying to figure out how I could get by this and still rent the car. I called the bank to see if there was a way to deposit it but no luck. I then thought maybe I could get a prepaid debit card to pay for it. So I called to see if this would work and I spoke to the lady I had worked with originally and she advised me that it would work and even told me I should make sure I had X amount on the card to ensure it was approved. When I went back a rude man told me that I could not use the card and assured me that all his staff knew so and it was a misunderstanding. I dont understand how i could be a misunderstanding when I clearly stated what I waned to do and she even told me what to put on the card. read more

The worst experience ever....The guy shea and his old fat boss wayne..was rude and lied to me.....I ask for all the small print..ect...was told it was all there and..nope wasn't...there holding my deposit for thirty days.....and I went through hertz web site and the lady I talked to went through hot wire to set it up to get her kick back.....after all this...wayne said it's up to our bank to release the funds/deposit....I went to our bank and they said all they need is a fax from hertz saying all is ok....and wayne said no he's not going to send a fax.....after I called him out on the lies....he just continued to chase his on tail......not the money I need...it is the principal...the lies that get to me.....if they do this to a 100,000 people a week their making mad money just in interest........go to any place but hertz......plus they run ur credit...brings ur score down every time.....there only a few rental places do that any more.....guess my American express.....visa or MasterCard wasn't good enough........if u lie...u will steal....and cheat.... read more

When you rent a vehicle and pay for it online its should tell you that you need 200 in your account to hold or include it in your perchas because when it said you only need to pay 24 something to complete the rental that is what I'm thinking I need to complete the rental and now my husband is stuck in Sioux Falls without a vehicle because you couldn't make it a bolder point in the rental online to have 200 in your account. Then to have your employee to to behave like a child about it repeating over and over its online when he is already frustrated with your business is ridiculous and we didn't see that statement anywhere online when we rented so it must not have been one of the main points of what we needed to rent the car I will never use this rental company again. I should have read more reviews before hand because this is not the first time someone has Said you have hidden cost and that is my fault for not looking into it more lesson learned read more

BEWARE. If you use insurance through your credit card or car insurance you can be held liable for thousands of dollars. Even if the damage is not your fault, they will charge you "Diminished value" which the insurance companies do not consider a valid charge and you are left holding the bag. read more

Hertz certainly know how to ruin a vacation. When we turned the rental car in they told us it had hail damage. South Dakota had a bad storm on the 16th but we were on a farm outside of Stickney S.D. and they did not get hail. But the guy at Hertz said if we were in S.D. we had hail. They say you have to have a trained eye to see it. They will not even listen to what we say they just insist we had hail damage. We are from Idaho but we do know hail when we see it. We were parked by a big motor home and 3 other cars, I don't know how we got damage and none of them had damage, actually we didn't either because we weren't in hail. We told the man at United what had happened, he said "Oh that story again, I hear it every time it storms". They have a big scam going on, if that car had hail damage it was there before we got it but like they said you have to have a trained eye to see it so we thought the car was find when we rented it. I'm sure they won't get the car fixed when they get the money and then pull the same thing next time they have a storm. They are charging $862.58 for repair,.over $400.00 for loss of use of the car and $150.00 administrative fee for something that they couldn't even show us where the damage was.
