I'm an Avis's preferred customer and I just got scammed for fuel even though I returned the car completely full. It took me over 30 minutes to try and resolve the issue with Avis by phone and still not resolved. definitely not worth my time. DO NOT RENT FROM AVIS SIOUX FALLS AIRPORT!!!! I rented a car for a family trip and returned the car full gas, clean and in great condition which was returned and checked in. Four months later we received a repair bill stating an issue with the car underneath that could have never been discovered unless the car was inspected by a licensed mechanic on a lift rack. We called and the local manager was rude. Did not care that we are VIP Avis customers. Did not care that there was a receipt as evidence the car checked in and accepted. They could not explain why this "discovery and bill" took four months after the rental date. Go to Enterprise or Hertz or any other car rental company. I had a prepaid rental car arranged for business. When I arrived to pickup, the staff were sitting in the main office but saw me approach the desk and were helpful. They directed me to the car which was parked outside. The car wreaked of cigarette smoke in the upholstery, but was clean. There were no other issues with the car apart from the smoke stench. There is a kum & go gas station about two miles from the airport to fill up before dropping off the car. Upon return, I parked the car in the lot, gathered all my items and walked inside to the front desk. There was nobody at the counter or in the office. I stood there for about 15 minutes until someone returned. She asked me how many miles I drove, but I wasn't sure (less than 50) and if I filled up with gas prior to return. Overall the smoke scent in the vehicle and unavailability of the staff is why I couldn't give this location a better review. read more

Crooks. Don't rent from this business. You opt out of their fuel charge, yet it still ends up on your bill. I point that out to the desk agent and he tells me that I have to call Avis customer service to ask for a reimbursement. Seems like they like to run their customers around in circles in hopes that you give up and get charged for all their service fees. read more

I guess in Avis's world, one or two stars out of five is perfect because I have yet to see a SINGLE Avis location with good reviews. Great job guys! Anyways I rented from the FSD location and ordered a full size car because I was going to carry passengers in the back and needed extra legroom. I got there and they gave me a Toyota RAV4. I asked if they had any sedans and that I did not want an SUV, because I needed more space. Some lady (the only lady that was working there) looked at me, gave me attitude, and told me how they had no cars available. (Alright folks. This is the NUMBER ONE excuse rental car employees pull on you when you ask for a different car. Do not fall for this BS) She proceeds to tell me how a compact SUV is somehow an UPGRADE and that I should settle for it as such. Look lady. The Toyota RAV4 has FOUR INCHES LESS legroom than a Toyota Corolla from the same company, and that is an INTERMEDIATE CAR in Avis. THAT IS NOT AN UPGRADE. I knew this so I asked if there were any smaller sedans available. And of course, she lies again, saying they have no cars. I got mad and just left. I went out to the parking lot and saw about 30 Hyundai Elantras and 20 Chevy Cruzes (all sedans) on the Avis lot. Yeah. Sure. They have no cars. The lying and rude woman plus the tricks Avis generally tries to pull on you makes me so mad. God I really wish my company would go with another company when renting. I really wish I would have read these prior to renting from here. I should have stuck with Enterprise and will forever after this. I took video of the car when I picked it up, had to note a scratch also prior to taking. When I returned I also took a video. It was the same. Got home and see I had a 50.00 charge for a chip in window! I asked for pictures of this to be emailed to me since I have a video and I can email that to them. They didn't want that and I have yet to see these pictures. HORRIBLE scam for money. DO NOT RENT FROM HERE. All the reviews state various charges. Originally my Priceline booking was 160.00, after "fees" it was 201!!! then with the 50.00"misc charge" it cost me 251.00! to rent a POS car for 4 days. Terrible experience. Rented a car from this location, drove it uneventfully on a highway for a total of 2 hours, returned it 3 days later. I was contacted a month later by a "fleet management service" in Utah that told me I cracked the bumper of this car and owed them $1,000+. At the time of rental no agent inspected the car with me, nor did one greet me when I returned the car. I picked it up and left it in the same dimly lit parking lot in the evening. NO ONE from this location contacted me about this incident, nor did I have any avenue to contest the claims of this location, so I was forced to pay this Utah company all they wanted, plus a lovely administrative fee. I find it ridiculous that at no point during this months-long process did a single person contact me from this location about this incident and that instead I had to deal with a third party. I also find it frustrating that there is no way to contest this claim since this car clearly sat in a parking lot unattended for hours after I dropped it off, when whatever this supposed damage may have really happened. read more

I had a reservation at the FSD Avis on December 23, 2015. My family and I were traveling to visit family for Christmas. I found out my plane was leaving late from Phoenix, so I contacted the Avis desk (unfortunately I didn't get the agent's name) to inform him that my flight was delayed and I would be arriving close to their posted closing time, which was 11:30 pm. He informed me that he would remain at the desk until 11:45 pm, which when I found out my flight was taking off only an hour later than expected (my original arrival time was 10:45 pm) I figure that would work as most flights arrive earlier than posted. My flight landed at 11:43 pm and I instantly turned on my phone and called the desk again, only to be met with no answer and a voicemail. I went to the rental car counters upon disembarking my plane to find only one counter still open. The agent at that counter informed me that the Avis agent left promptly at 11:30 pm and told her that he had 3 or 4 reservations remaining and she could have them. What kind of business is that? So thanks to that agent, who lacks customer service, I was forced to pay hundreds of dollars more than I had planned. So I recommend that if you have a flight arriving close to 11:30 pm in Sioux Falls, DO NOT make a reservation with AVIS. read more

This review is probably more for Avis corporate than the FSD location. I rented a "Chrysler Town & Country or equivalent" on line for 1/6/17. Then I called the location and was told that their "or equivalent" is a Dodge Caravan, which I was ok with. I drive a Town & Country at home. I know that the Chrysler minivan is generally more upscale than the Dodge version, but when I got the Dodge I was very disappointed that it was a stripped down car. I doubt that it had any optional equipment. No heated seats, sub-zero temps all weekend, no cup holders in second row, etc., etc. utilitarian at best. read more

These guys are trying to get a payday from a local hailstorm on my dime. Not that it should matter either way, but they don't even keep their cars indoors. The vehicle was, by the way, right in Sioux Falls the night it happened, probably about 8 miles from their lot, and certainly well under 10! It was still dark when I was turning the car in, but I was pretty sure I saw a couple of likely (small, but visible) hail dents. It certainly would have made sense. So, as a courtesy, I actually wrote them a note saying that due to the massive storm the night before (which they were no doubt aware of), I thought there might be some hail damage. I was already a little irritated with their petty/manipulative attempts to get me to spend more money, but it's simple civil courtesy. When I'd picked up the vehicle, the person at the front desk had tried to scam me into buying a full tank of gas. Only because I asked *exactly* the right questions did it come out that "oh, you just bring it back empty". It takes a certain "moral flexibility" to do that, but I am also sure she was acting on company orders/policy. If you don't fall for that, they provide the "service" of topping the gas tank off if you don't include a receipt for gas when you drop the car off. At least there is a fairly prominent sticker on the rental packet for that (no doubt due to lots of angry customers who got tagged with $14 to top off a tank). I think my gas receipt was $1.32... so, because of those little things, I did worry a little bit that they'd do something crazy, like try to get me to pay for the hail damage. But then I thought "haha, that would be ridiculous, wouldn't it? Even these guys wouldn't DARE try something like that". And then, I got a letter from a company called "PurCo" today, which, conspicuously, does not mention anything about the circumstances under which the vehicle "sustained some damage". I imagine their argument will be that there is something in the "fine print", but frankly, certain things are just not enforceable, as they are just plain predatory. Why on earth would a person renting a car *ever* be responsible for an Act of God, especially one from a storm that passed over the entire local area? There isn't even the argument that "well, if you hadn't taken the car to this other area where there is crazy weather, this wouldn't have happened"! If I'd rented a car to say... drive from Sioux Falls down to New Orleans when hurricane Katrina was known to be imminent, they'd have a point. read more

Had a reservation through Costco. They insisted on adding a fuel charge to the bill which could be taken off only when I showed a receipt for gas. (Too busy to check the gauge, I guess.) Sent me out to a car that had clear damage on two spots. Had to wait for someone to walk out and record the damage on a form (the form they gave me when I got the keys said car had been inspected and there was not damage.) Lucky me, I got 45 miles down the highway and a tire started going flat. Called roadside assistance but all they did was put on the spare. So my choice was to drive back and get a new car or push on and get it repaired on the way (was told that cost would be deducted from bill). I did get it plugged and was on my way. When I returned the car on a Sunday, not on would the woman at the counter not deduct the cost of repair, they had added a $50 "repair" cost to the bill that she would not remove. Tried to call the manager for two days but his voice mail isn't even set up. Scam? Sham? Not sure what but I would use a more reputable company if I was renting a car in Sioux Falls again. read more
