Don't ever rent a car from this location, should be a zero star option. They should absolutely be shut down. The car they gave us has catastrophic engine failure in the middle of the freeway. We waited 4 hours for Hertz Roadside to book us a tow truck, which showed up and wasn't able to take us since they were booked for zero passengers. The tow truck driver said the car had likely never been serviced and had no oil left in it. The Dedham office continued to hang up on us when we called and when we asked for any sort of refund, they told us to take it up with corporate. I've used this location many times in the past, they've always charged my insurance company and I never had to pay a penny. Same situation this time, my insurance was going to pay for my rental. Before I gave the manager my credit card, I asked him will I be charged for anything? He told me "you will not be charged for anything" my insurance company will pay... well he lied. I was charged more than we agreed on and they refused to refund. They refused to send me a breakdown of the bill and refused to refund the extra charges. Today I made a reservation and showed up shortly thereafter to get the car - with my confirmed reservation. The apathetic employee said "We don't do last minute reservations here. Filled the tank before I brought the vehicle back. Have the receipt on my debit card from the gas station. They charged me an extra 39 dollars saying tank wasn't full. I'll be contesting the whole charge on my card as soon as the bank opens tomorrow. The Car also reeked like mold/mildew . If I could give zero stars I would. Avoid this place like the plague. They're severely understaffed, only having one staff member working each of the 3 days this week I've had to go in there in person. I picked up my pre-reserved rental Tuesday morning. To say the inside of the car was filthy is an understatement. By the look of the stains, someone had either had a bathroom accident or thrown up on the front seat. The smell inside...a combination of a used tampon and a used barf bag. I was told by Jamie this was the only car she had, and she "did her best" cleaning it. There was a pair of scissors in the car, the stains, and various different colored hairs all over the place. I was told I could swap the car out when they got more cars. I begrudgingly took it because I'd just gotten off a plane, and had no other transportation option. As soon as they opened Wednesday morning, I called the same location, and spoke with Deshawn. I explained the condition of the car, and he said he could swap it out that afternoon. I explained that I was at work, and would be there between 3 & 4pm. When I arrived to pick up my replacement, Jamie was the only employee in the office. I said I'm here to swap out my car. Jamie told me they were "sold out" of cars. I explained my prior conversation with Deshawn and Jamie told me they do not hold cars for people. This doesn't really make sense because she knew she'd given me a filthy car, and Deshawn had told me to come that afternoon to swap out. I told Jamie I cannot drive the car in its current condition and she told me try back on Saturday, mind you it was Wednesday. Fast forward to today, Friday morning when I decided to just return the car altogether. It took over 40 minutes to return the car, as once again there was only one employee working. This morning Jorge was the only employee in the office. When I arrived he was out back, and myself and a woman who was ahead of me were in the waiting area. Turns out she worked right next door to this Hertz location. When Jorge helped the woman who was ahead of me, who was super friendly, he was nasty with her, to the point that she finally asked him if he was having a bad day today? He responded in a rude way. When it was finally my turn to do my return I told Jorge that I'd like to show him the condition of the inside of the car, and explained everything mentioned previously in this post. He said to me that he didn't believe me that Jamie would say that, in a waiting room full of 7 more folks waiting to be helped. I told him that I took pictures of the inside of the car upon pick up Tuesday morning, and showed him the photos. To which he just shrugged. On a positive note, Deshawn who I only spoke with by phone had a lovely friendly demeanor. Shawn, who I spoke with in the Norwood location, was also equally lovely and helpful and offered to swap the car out for me. Avoid the Dedham location unless you like aggravation. read more

I will never rent from Hertz again. I made a reservation for a same-day pickup of an economy car. They forced me into an EV without a walkthrough on how to drive it or where to charge it. Upon return, the office was closed. I dropped the key in the return box and left. Later, I received a letter from Hertz Corporate office stating that I hadn't returned the vehicle and they were initiating an investigation. I immediately called the 800 number, and they informed me they had closed the case as the car was located on their lot. Subsequently, I received a finalized receipt that charged me double per day for the rental, a recovery fee, and other questionable fees. Despite attempts to contact them through another 800 number for an explanation, there has been no response. They are a fraudulent company, nickeling and diming customers any way they can! read more

Beware stay away from this location and company. 1. They will hand over a filthy car just my luck that it was really dark outside to check and I was in a rush. I had to return the car within 24 hours because it's was so disgusting. 2. They will offer an upgrade as if the car you selected is not present and/or as if it's complimentary without disclosing change in price. 3. They will document incorrect recording of mileage once the car is returned. I live less than 5 miles from the location documented use of 200 miles at return. Hertz delayed our trip by about an hour and a half, through their failure to pick up as they promise. Then they tried to double-charge us at the end for what we had paid in advance. They were unaccommodating, made it out like we were the problem, and did not offer any alternative until pushed. We were already expecting to be driving until almost midnight, and this late start made our trip very stressful, and cut into our sleep for important events at the other end. I've really liked Hertz in other places, but this was awful. First, my wife called to arrange pickup when she got off from work (~4 miles away). They agreed to pick her up. Then, about half an hour after the arranged pickup time, she called wondering where they were, and they said they weren't coming, because it was too far. I had checked before making the reservation that it was within the range they drive. According to Hertz' web site, they will pick you up as long as it's within 15 minutes drive. Even at rush hour, google was predicting 12, but the representative refused despite having agreed earlier, telling me they normally only drive within about 2 minutes -- totally different from what the website says. 4 miles is a short distance in a car, but it's a long way on foot! There were not convenient buses along the path. They claimed they had called in between to tell her that they couldn't pick her up, but if they did that, they clearly made no attempt to leave a message. Although her reception area wasn't great, there were no missed calls registered, and no messages. I mentioned that a different Hertz had, when they were unable to pick me up in the past due to low staffing, offered to reimburse an Uber instead. They agreed to do that up to $10 when pressed, but did not volunteer the information. All in all, with a half hour waiting before even finding out that they weren't even on their way, all this trouble on the phone, and then my wife having to download Uber before getting on her way, she got on her way almost an hour and a half after we planned. That time came directly out of our sleep for the night, and exhaustion was problematic all weekend. Four days later, when she went to return the car, they tried to charge her again for what she prepaid at the beginning. Glad she caught it. They also charged her for a full tank of gas at the beginning (without asking), while they told her she needed to return the car with a full tank of gas. I happened to notice when looking at the receipt midway through our trip, but otherwise we would have double-paid for gas as well by buying it elsewhere ourselves to return full. After reading some of the old reviews I was a bit apprehensive about renting from this location, but it was close and convenient so I figured what the heck - and I'm glad I did. Both Vanessa and Stephanie were wonderful to work with - the customer service was outstanding! They're friendly, efficient and knowledgeable - there was a minor snafu at corporate with my extended rental and they solved it immediately over the phone. They replaced the previous team at this location about a year ago and it seems they've really turned the place around. It's a relatively small location (both in size and in the number of cars available) so make your reservation as soon as you can. I would absolutely rent a car there again and highly recommend them! read more

Customer service is pretty amazing there. Each of the employee are ready and willing to exceed customers expectations. For example: they close at 6pm, on March 17th 2017, i was running late and there was a slight possibility I was going to make it late. I called to tell the hertz employee, im stick in traffic. He quickly spoke and told me not to worry, he will wait for me. He just offered without me asking. I really appreciated his offer and luckily I made it there before six. Also he had everything ready for me, I think I spent a total of maybe 5minutes or less. The hertz employee made it an awesome experience. I had the worst experience at this Hertz the day before Thanksgiving. There was a lot of miscommunication, the customer service was terrible. They tried to rent me a dirty car. Then the manager tried to talk down to me when I was voicing my concerns. He could careless about what I was saying. I almost lost it in there. So basically I had no rental for my travels for Thanksgiving. But then Avis came into my life, I was able to get the SUV I wanted and it was nice and clean the day before Thanksgiving! When you have good customer service at another business you realize exactly what bad customer service is, especially at this Hertz. (I say this because at first I thought I might of overreacted, but not whatsoever) If you don't mind making the trip I suggest Avis in Braintree on Pond street. The guy there, unfortunately I forgot his name, but he was so helpful and very nice. I do believe he's there most of the time so you'll probably run into him. But in my opinion don't waste your time with this Hertz. This was officially my first and last time. The pricing is cheap but you get cheap cars and cheap customer service. I rather not. The staff is friendly and helpful and gets you in a car quickly and on your way. They even give you a special deal if you are getting your car repaired next store. This is the second time I've rented at this location and both times were positive experiences. They're in a convenient location in Dedham, give rides if necessary and are proactive in assisting the customer. Last week, I was involved in an accident with my vehicle and needed a rental asap, as my job is car dependent. I was injured and stressed out and Matt, one of the managers, ensured the entire process was smooth and stress-free. The young man who drove the car up for me, was also kind and accomodating; showed me some of the vehicle's quirks and ensured I had a snow brush in the event of inclement weather. Don't bother with this branch. I called today with a reservation from my insurance company and was not greeted warmly. I was met with a lot of resistance from the person on the other end. His lack of professionalism led to me to conclude there was absolutely no way he was a manager. However, when I asked for a manager he informed me he was the manager. When I said I didn't understand why this was such a difficult conversation, he replied "well, you didn't let me explain." He made me ask several follow up questions and offered zero information regarding their policy or the way they conduct business. They operate on first come, first serve basis. If a car you want is there when you call and you tell them you'll be there at a certain time, they'll give the car away to the next person that walks in and asks for it; regardless of your reservation. Enterprise certainly doesn't do business this way, although this particular manager seems to think everyone operates this way. This is absolutely untrue. Unwelcoming, unprofessional, unwilling to help. I know the staff here turns over quite often because I've been there a few times. Do yourself a favor, save the stress, head over to an Enterprise dealership. Heck, they'll even pick you up. I've read that Hertz does the same, but I beg to differ. I informed this person I was stuck because someone hit my car and he offered zero help and only cared about the exact time I expected to be able to get there. read more

Was there a no stars option? Guess not. This place is horrible. My reservation was booked through AAA. I was then forwarded an email. In the fine print of the email, Hertz stated that they do take debit/credit. After the driver picked me up, we almost hit another car because he wasn't paying attention. Then we get to the location and I begin check in. He asks for my "credit card" where I hand him my debit. He then repeats "debit"... at this point I'm confused. My debit card is a MasterCard. He then explains they only accept "major credit cards". I explain that they should make that clear. I also explain and read out loud to them the fine print on the reservation which stated they do indeed take both "credit/debit", as long as funds are available. At this point I'm super annoyed. The salesman then turns to me and says, "we did you a favor!". He was referring to picking me up, which we all know is protocol. I then tell him it was no favors if it ultimately was inconvenient and even caused me to lose more money because I was forced to take an Uber home. Oh and it was too late to go anywhere else at this point. So as a result I was unable to make it to my night class. Today I was picked up by enterprise and they treated me great. They also took my debit card because there was more than enough funds and treated me to a few bonuses because of my unfortunate event with Hertz! read more

Let me start off with saying I rarely ever do any reviews whether they're good or bad but this particular hertz put me all in my feelings so I definitely have to leave a review for them, I picked up a van that I needed to rent for a month when I picked up the van it was extremely dirty but whatever I looked past that, when it was time for me to return the rental van back to the Dedham location the lady in the office told me that I could not return the van back to this location that I would have to bring it to another location, That was totally out of my way of travel, I told her it just didn't make sense to me that I rented from this location and that I could not bring it back to the same location, so after hearing sorry sir too many times I finally left that location and had to drive 45 minutes out of my way plus burn gas on both the rental and for the gas I had to pay for my ride from the rental place, after arriving to the other location I spoke with an associate that was extremely friendly and I asked him if I could had left the van at the Dedham location and the associate replied yes he couldn't understand either why I could not leave the van at the location that I picked it up from, long story short the DEDHAM HERTZ SUCKS!! Do not rent from this place. I received a car that was filthy and when I asked why they were very snooty and said of course we can't clean the exterior in the winter because their hoses were frozen. There is a car wash 5 minutes away. Also they charged me $30.65 for tolls on my credit card and when I disputed it since I had only gone through 2 tolls they said they would refund me $18.70. They purposely overcharged me. It's bad enough that they charge $4.95 to use their transponder, but to load on another $18.70 is disgusting. I would never use them again. read more

I rented a car for a week at full size rate. When I went to pick it up after reserving it almost 2 weeks before, they had no full size cars available. So they stuck me in Kia Sole at the same rate as a full size (cheaper than what they rented out the sole for). After the week was over, I called the Dedham located numerous time to extend my rental and no one EVER answers the phone. So I had no choice to call corp. because I was unable to extend it online. When I called, I extended my rental for another 2 weeks, at least so I thought. Come to find out she never processed my extention. So they charged me a ridiculous amount of money everyday, at the rate of the Kia Sole which was much higher than what I had agreed to pay. I then started receiving calls from a recovery service because they women whom I spoke with NEVER processed my extension. They women from the recovery service, basically told me to screw and the reason that they were calling was because my extension was never processed and they needed to charge me more money because the rate was a problem. That is when I notice on my credit card statement that not only did they take the money that was on hold they charged me an additional $25 to the much higher rate they were already charging me. Which again, I never signed anything or agreed to any of these charges. Finally, after a week of trying to square this away, I spoke with another women from Hertz corp. because the Dedham location, once again, never answered the phone any time I called. She told me I would be charged $273.00 total. With no other charges and the rate would be adjusted to what I agreed upon nor was it on anything I saw on the paper I signed. So once they agreed to fix it, I Told them I would drop it off that Monday. Which was 2 days later. Thinking I would be charged the amount I was assured they would only charge me, I received a email receipt later on that night for $625. I have been trying to fix this for 2 days and no one gives a crap. They are a rip off. They in total were only supposed to charge me $600 total for 3 weeks. Instead, I was charged $202 for the first week, they kept $200 that was on hold, they charged me an additional $25 everyday I had the car then ontop of that, they charged me ANOTHER $625 dollars for 3 weeks of renting a car at $20 a day. DO NOT RENT FROM HERTZ. The dedham bridge street location does NOT tell you ANY INFORMATION and they say whatever you want to hear to get you out of the building. They also NEVER answer the phone. THE COPR office, customer service, does not help and they too lie to get you off the phone. I am still being passed around being told different amounts by each representative I speak with. They are a rip off scam. I have NEVER had a problem renting a car before. I have always used Enterprise in the past and I never had an issue. I Will never ever rent from hertz again, and I will be reporting them to the better business bureau, the attorney generals office, and I will be taking legal action if they do NOT refund me the $400 dollars they overcharged me. Shame on them, especially with the COVID-19 crisis and everyone (including myself) being out of work. I have a pet service business and literally have NO clients at the moment because everyone is home and cancelling travel plans. Hertz DOES NOT care. HE DID NOT CARE ONE BIT!!! Which make me wonder if they are even taking the safety precautions that they are supposed to be taking to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Unprofessional experience . I wouldn't rent here again. I had a reservations through my insurance company for 3 days prior and even called before I traveled to the location to be sure they had full size vehicles. Over the phone the representative said they had more than enough full size vehicles but when I arrived that wasn't the case . A guy named Jason did all the paperwork and handed me the keys to a 2018 Toyota Camry . He and his coworkers began privately speaking for a 5 minutes as I waited to do the visual inspection with them. Jason then came back and said it was a change of plans that the registration for that vehicle was on hold so I would have to take a compact car because the Camry was the only full size vehicle they had in inventory and a Toyota Yaris was the only vehicle ready to leave the lot . As we stepped outside to do the visual inspection on the Yaris the car was filthy . Bugs on the windshield , gashes in the hood on the car , skid marks on the side of the car, tree sap and pollen on the windows and body of the car . Even the inside of the car windshield was visually filthy. I explained to Jason the unprofessional appearance of the vehicle is unsatisfactory And the difficulty to determine what's dirt and what's a scratch on the vehicle because ultimately I don't want to be responsible. He rolled his eyes and pulled out a hose to hose the rental car down. No soap just ran the hose over it and told me I could switch it out at any HERTZ location . I still took video and pictures of the car and plan on trying to switch the car out tomorrow . Hopefully another location is more helpful than what I experienced today .. read more

After having a major car accident my insurance company set up the rental car for me. My car was totaled and towed away. I was given a confirmation number by the insurance company to call and give to Hertz. I called and provided this number and was told that I should have called the Dedham office and not Norwood. They would however pass on the information for me and arrange for me to be picked up at 5:30 that night. At 5:50 I called the Dedham location to be told that they would need to check to see if they could have someone come and get me but not sure because they close at 6. I told them I was stranded at work with no way to get home and that I had made arrangements at 1p,m that afternoon for this, They apologized and said the information was not passed from the Norwood location to Dedham. He offered to pick me up first thing in the morning and get it squared away. I repeated that I had no way to get home and if done in the morning I would be late for work. He placed on hold and said they have someone in the area that would swing by pick me up and bring me back to the office to complete the paperwork. The employee that stayed late for me was exceptional and very helpful and I was grateful for him staying to accommodate me. This morning I called as the insurance company told me that Hertz offers drop off and pick up and I verified this on their website to pick up the car from my work, I was told they do not do this. I explained that I was told by the insurance company that they do and it also states this as a service on their website. She said it is based on availability. First they did not do it then it changed to based on availability and they had no one available. They wanted me to drop the vehicle off at their location. I told them it was not possible as I was already at work and right after work I had someone picking me up to drive an hour away to pick up my new car. She asked where my new car was I told her Chelmsford and asked if they could pick up rental from there. she said no. After being placed on hold a few times and her reviewing with a supervisor they agreed to come pick up the car from my work. They seemed really put off by doing this and placed blame everywhere but on themselves. I have always used Enterprise for both personal use and after other accidents and have never had an issue. This was my FIRST and LAST experience with Hertz. This is my "go to" place for car rentals. I used to go to enterprise in Norwood, but this place is best by far! Tom, Glenn- customer service is "top notch" prices are great! we got an excellent deal for a minivan on a long weekend. Don't believe the internet this location is NOT near the 128 Amtrak Westwood station. Instead it is a $26 cab ride away. They were closed on Sunday when I need to return. So I was told I would have to pay for a cab and get myself to the train station. To add insult to injury the number for the cab company they gave me was out of service and I almost missed my train. Rent from enterprise. they are much more professional and they actually have an organized system that works. What a headache.
