I firmly believe a person cannot adequately judge an establishment without having gone there multiple times and ordering various things off of a menu. typically with my reviews I say I can't speak for anything except for what i've got. I will emphasize that point as I continue this review. The 4 star rating is giving benefit of the doubt. I am vegetarian, so I ordered the avocado and cucumber roll with vegetarian fried rice. I have no doubt their typical sushi with fish is great, but the vegetarian roll that I got was okay at best. The avocado wasn't brown- so that was a plus. but, it wasn't really rolled well and it lacked crunch, and proportionality. too much avocado and not enough cucumber, the cumber was diced too thinly I think. the rice was falling off the seaweed. the avocado cumber roll was definitely edible though, and nothing was actually wrong with it to an untrained eye. The fried rice is where I had more of my issues. it heavily lacked soy sauce. it wasn't really fried, just merely heated up. it had an overwhelming amount of big vegetables. that's a preference of mine but I do find that a good fried rice has a proportionate bite, where everything is diced up to be equal sizes. the egg was kinda scary. stringy and white. and it kinda had an overall fishy scent. Overall, I wouldn't see this review as a make or break for someone else wanting to try this restaurant out. I looked at their other reviews and all their other stuff seemed great. sometimes establishments just miss the mark when it comes to the fundamentals and vegetarian dishes altogether. read more

Update is the updated review and Happy 2022!!! I love dining in here. Sometimes the takeout can't allow you to really enjoy the goodness. This time I got to try the lamb chops my niece ordered and they were really nice. Along with my usual fair of spicy tuna roll, James Bond roll, and nigiri scallop slightly seared, everything was fresh and delicious!! So happy I did not give up on my go to sushi spot in this area. I didn't taste the fried wings, but I was eyeing how my little niece thoroughly enjoyed them. May have to go back just to taste lol. For our next installment of "Dining in the Age of Corona", we take you to celebrating an 18th birthday, COVID-19 style. Yes, the NMA (Newly Minted Adult) turned 18 recently, and while he is not a party animal, he was bummed that he was celebrating with his mom. One thing we have always done is to have a special meal, and this year, for the third time in a row, he wanted sushi. So, off to the handy-dandy Yelp app I go, searching for a nearby place that would deliver or take-out sushi in these times. Fortunately, Herosame came up, free delivery, and solid ratings (thanks, Yelp community!). Online ordering was a breeze, really smooth. We were able to make special requests that were followed faithfully, and in just about 40 minutes an abundance arrived at our door. It was very, very good. Miso soup, an often overlooked dish, was nice and savory without being highly salted. NMA proclaimed the sushi to be "nom nom nom, gawd Mom do you have to take pictures of everything?" good. As in, he really liked it. The only "just OK" was the Japanese rice, which was a little bland, but again in the Age of Corona, it was solid and enjoyed. We would definitely order again, they did a nice job, the order arrived hot and well packaged. I have gone to Herosame over 10 times now and have never been disappointed. The food is so fresh and never disappoints!! For appetizers I always get the edamame which is so salty and amazing. The crab Rangoons are so crisp and flaky, they melt in your mouth. The ratio of the crust to the cream cheese crab inside is perfect. The lobster spring rolls are also a crowd favorite. The lobster is so fresh and they always come out warm. Since the rangoons and spring rolls are made in house, they do take a while to come out, so expect them to take a while. But when they do come out they are so hot and yummy. My friend got the chicken teriyaki which I always take the leftovers of because the sauce is soooo good. I'm a big sushi person so I always order a variety of different rolls. I ordered the shrimp tempura roll, the Philly roll and a spicy tuna roll this time and I was so happy. Great meal. I can't rave enough about this place. The servers are also so sweet and amazing. The ambiance is so calming and a great place for a dinner with friends or a date! Best ginger dressing near me, but worst parking setup. I don't eat sushi but I've heard it's good here. I get the chicken teriyaki 90% of the time and beef teriyaki the rest. But I do really like their ginger dressing and theirs is the best near home. I'm not sure where people park, I try to get a spot in front if I'm lucky or in the lot across the street, but it can be tough. read more

My daughter said that she was looking to have sushi for lunch today, so we decided to give Herosame in Ardmore a try. Wow, this is one of the best sushi meals we've had in the Philly area and definitely on the Main Line. I called in our takeout order and the server who took our order was very friendly and polite as was the server who brought us our order while we waited in the vestibule. We ordered the Lunch Shrimp Teriyaki Bento Box and the Lunch Triple Roll Combo. Wow! I thought they had accidentally give us another person's order as the bags were quite heavy. Both lunch specials could easily be split over two meals or at least a meal and a leftovers snack. The Lunch Shrimp Teriyaki Bento Box included a small house salad, a pint of Miso Soup, 2 Shumai, a California Roll, 6 large Teriyaki Shrimp and a pint of steamed white rice. The salad was a crisp and refreshing spring mix with thinly shredded carrots and a halved grape tomato with a delicious dressing. The Miso soup was very rich and tasty. The Shumai were delicious with a nice crisp exterior, but soft, tender and enjoyable meat inside. The California Roll was huge and stuffed with super fresh crab stick and vegetables topped off with tobiko. The Teriyaki Shrimp were just a hair overcooked, but still delicious. The Three Roll Lunch Combo featured a choice of three rolls from a list of twenty different rolls so my daughter picked the Shrimp Avocado Roll, Tempura Roll and Philly Roll. All three rolls, just like my Bento Box's California Roll were huge with the Shrimp Tempura Rolls being gigantic. One piece of the tempura roll was at least twice the size of other sushi rolls I've had. Each roll was stuffed with the traditional meats and veggie fillings. Everything was so fresh and delicious! Herosame will definitely be on our family's list for future Japanese lunches and dinners! read more

We ended up coming here for lunch, so roughly around noon. The atmosphere was relaxed, and we were the only ones inside. The food was AMAZING. My dining partner and I were shocked at just how good the food was! I got the chicken katsudon, and their sushi lunch special. The katsudon was so good, it was perfectly made, and they even served it in a traditional earthenware-style bowl. The chicken was perfectly consistency, and there was just enough sauce to soak into the rice to give it flavor, but not drown it. They also cooked the egg perfectly! So many times I've had katsudon at restaurants, and they almost always either overcook or undercook the eggs. The sushi was also exceptional. I asked for them to omit the cucumber in the rolls (I hate cucumber with a burning passion, like gag if I smell it type of hatred) and they did it with no questions asked. The quality of the tuna and salmon was excellent. The fish tasted wonderfully fresh! The lunch special deal they have for the sushi is a great price! Three rolls for $15 means it's $5 per roll, plus they give you soup. So not only do you save a few bucks, but you also get a delicious miso soup basically for free! The miso soup was also very well made. Just the right balance of seaweed and tofu, and it came out to the table at a perfect temperature. My dining partner got the chicken yakitori and the crunchy scallop roll. (They let me try some from their plates, so I could judge the food for myself) The yakitori was excellent as well! They cooked the chicken just long enough that it was still juicy, but not so little that it was undercooked. Plus, the sauce they used was so tasty, with the perfect consistency. Their crunchy scallop roll was very tasty, but it was a bit of a hassle to eat. It's difficult to tell where one piece ends and the other begins, so the person I was eating with kept accidentally eating two rolls at once. Also, be warned, this roll is very messy to eat! Because it's got so much on it, when you pick it up with chopsticks, the roll slowly disintegrates into little pieces. But, you're supposed to eat sushi with your fingers and not chopsticks, so that might be why they exploded the way they did. The service was excellent! The waitress we had was wonderfully attentive, and she was so sweet! She answered any questions we had about the food and helped me modify what I needed to be able to eat with ease. They also have a bar and a wall of coolers full of beer. Seeing as it was the middle of the day, we obviously didn't drink anything alcoholic. But at night, this would probably be an excellent place for dinner! read more

Happy wife, happy life! That's how I've been married to the same lovely woman for 36 years. In this case it's all about Asian cuisine. The wife and I love many types of Asian food but I deplore sushi. I'd rather have a root canal than eat a piece. The wife loves it. Soooooo I look for places that can satisfy her and also offer me something tasty. These folks are definitely one of these places. When folks think of Ardmore restaurants, they usually think of those on Lancaster Ave (Route 30) and the associated side streets. Harusame is on Haverford Ave. about 1.5 miles from Lancaster Ave. It's part of a small strip of unassuming restaurants that you could drive right by and hardly notice. Street parking is a little tight so most patrons park in the SEPTA lot directly across the street. This is a pretty little place with just a few tables and a full bar. I suppose you could sit at the bar but I've never seen it. It's mostly a place for the bartender to make some great surprisingly inexpensive drinks. The wife's current favorite is the Mango Martini. It goes for $6 which is a great deal. The large (22 Oz.) can of Sapporo is $6.50. I've paid much more other places. The menu is huge with many pages of sushi options. Fortunately their menu is online so you can take a peak before you visit. Also, there are many photos posted in Yelp. The lovely wife raves about the freshness and the quantity for the price. She's tried many types of sampler dishes and rolls and always rolled her eyes in pleasure. For the non-sushi eater like me there are several versions of teriyaki dinners, fried rice and hibachi dinners. There are also several appetizers that are not sushi. Recently I was very pleased with my steak teriyaki dinner ($17). The steak was beautifully grilled and the accompanying vegetables were fresh and crisp. The service here has been mostly just fine with the occasional small misstep. Recently we both ordered a soup and hers was served significantly before mine. It was slightly annoying but the service for the remainder of our meal was fine. So if you are in the Western Burbs or along the Mainline and looking for a great Asian meal, you'd have a fine time here. read more

So I made the mistake of giving this place yet another try; it's hard to avoid it for takeout since it's so close to home. But I think I've finally reached my limit. After spending $50 per person for assorted sushi, we ended up throwing a bunch of it out. Rolls so poorly made they fell apart. Pieces of sushi crammed so tightly together in the container that the seaweed wraps stuck together causing fish eggs to spill everywhere. The container of soy sauce was so flimsy, the lid popped off in transit spilling brown liquid in my car. read more

And it says a lot about the place if they're willing to go the extra mile for the most basic of items. So, brownie points there. The sushi rolls are good, also. They come out fast and fresh. They had a lot to choose from, and it could be a bit overwhelming, but I could see myself here over and over trying different rolls. As for the table service, it's a bit slow. I ordered a Seaweed Salad, a Spicy Crunchy Yellowtail Roll, and an Angry Tuna Roll. In both rolls, the fish was incredibly fresh and the rice was perfectly cooked. The Angry Tuna Roll (Lobster salad, shrimp tempura and avocado topped with spicy tuna, tobiko and panko (wrapped in soy paper) is my new favorite roll!! It has had at least 3 different names since, but none of the spots have been significantly different. That is until Harusame came in and took a serious face lift. what used to have more of a marketplace/restaurant feel now has a fully stocked bar and a huge sushi counter. there's plenty of roomy tables and they bought in a fish tank. the sushi is pretty good too. it might not cut it as much in Philly, but It's the champ in Havertown. and there's a pretty good deal where you can mix 3 kinds of rolls for $11. good sushi lunch box options too. and they still have a good variety of 6 packs in the back. read more

Thank you Yelp, for opening my eyes to this hidden gem in plain sight. I'd actually come here years ago for takeaway beer (given that it's a Japanese restaurant, they have a great selection of craft brews, even some ciders and Belgian lambics). Upon returning for sushi with the family I was pleasantly surprised to find a vast menu of tasty and unique rolls with high quality seafood. There's a huge selection of cooked Japanese food as well for the less adventurous, including good teriyaki dishes. This is a happy compromise for people who want sushi if their date or family doesn't. Staff are friendly and responsive to requests, like no fish roe on the rolls, extra sauce or ginger. Drinks from their relatively full bar are yummy and cheap too. There is often a wait on weekend evenings but they do take reservations, so call ahead. They are open late, until 11pm most nights, so stop by for a quick bite, to take home an order, or even to takeaway some drinks. I recommend any of the specials, and I'm particularly fond of the Angry Tuna, the American Dream, the Sumo Roll. The Jalapeno Yellowtail with chef special yuzu sauce is delicious. Oh, and the portions are HUGE. Heaping plates full of fish and generous size rolls full of the listed ingredients...these portion sizes make other nearby sushi restaurants look like they're catering to ants. I will never again pay $18 for one roll of four or six tiny pieces, or $12 for two pieces of sashimi. read more
