I asked if they had any dipping sauce she recommended this white sauce I can't remember but it's a MUST. It was sooooo GOOD and we tried the Philly cheesesteak and yes another 10/10. The lady taking my order was extremely rude and didn't have a sense of what customer service was whatsoever. I waited 40 minutes for my food and went up to ask how much longer it would be and she snapped back at me and kept saying "We'll text you when your order is ready. Now get out of line." The guy in front of me got the wrong order and when he told her about it, she replied "we made a mistake. What do you want us to do about it." When I finally got my food, she said "here you go. At a current 3.6 on Google I guess this review does not even matter to this ladies business. Anyways, I hope it helps someone out thinking about purchasing any food here. Hero Gyros came to our apartment complex, and was paid by our complex to give the first 50 gyros to residents for free. Well, the owner decided to say that residents must purchase an item to receive a free gyro. This was not agreed nor in the contract for our complex. So a massive amount of people had to leave the long line they waited in because they did not bring their wallet. The owner tried to blame the issue on the complex as well. I had my wallet on me and planned on ordering another anyway. So I made two purchases to receive two free gyros. I was happy with that. So the owner tells me the total and the two items come to 21 dollars even. The two purchased items were fries ($3.69) and a cheesesteak ($12.94). See photos for proof of price lol. So even at the highest percent of tax food trucks can charge which is 8.25%. It still does not come near $21. So I questioned the owner upon order pickup, 1 hr 30min later keep in, yes that is how long it took. I was very polite and just figured it was some mandatory tip or something. Which is fine, should have been informed, but fine nevertheless. Well, lol, she told me it was tax. I said that does not add up, she didnt believe me, I showed her on a calculator app. Ridiculous. Then she told me the price of our food was $14.78 for the cheesesteak and $4.61 for the fries. I pointed to the menu no further than 8 inches from her face and said your prices are wrong then. Which is also whatever. Then she proceeded to tell me that it's tax added. So they are charging 14.2% tax, 100% illegal and then charging more after the total of the order. Once again, see image for proof. Even without a calculator for exacts. This is obviously so off, so I told her. I don't like being lied to or ripped off. She told me to take off my glasses and then maybe I could see the tax better. Whoa! I told her these are prescription, and she looked dumbfounded. Just absolutely disgusting service and theft. Imagine getting an opportunity like our complex gave this poor rated business and not only ripping the complex off but your customers. I really would love a response from the owner on how they thought this was logical. I will be reporting this to the BBB as well so bankruptcy court is aware because I know for a fact that is coming soon. read more

Tried these guys out a couple of weekend and was floored by their gyro! Tons of meat, very flavorful, I got enough sauce on it, but whoa! Lots of of the good stuff!! Easily one of the best gyros in town! Philly Cheesesteak was also pretty solid and quite authentic. The bun was soft, melted in your mouth, the meat was flavorful, plenty of cheese, it was very tasty indeed. The guy was very nice and accommodating, eager to please, he sometimes runs out of pens (thanks to his neighbors) but I helped him out a bit w/ some inventory. Sometimes you wait, especially when he's by himself, but he works his tail off as best as possible. Eh its ok. I've passed by here on the way to other restaurants and since I forgot my lunch today, I decided to give this place a try. Not that impressed but you can't really mess up a gyro at the end of the day. It's a bit on the small side (the pita) but it is packed with meat. I deem this the best gyro place in Austin. Yes, I said it-- it beats Kebabalicious! I was walking home one night from downtown with some friends. They were all hungry, so naturally we stopped at the semi-shady, Longhorn tailgating tent serving gyros at the corner of I-35 and East 7th Street. Later I found out this little piece of heaven was called Heros Gyros. My friends got the beef/lamb gyro (extra spicy), and being someone who can't resist food in front of me, I had to try a bite...oooooommmmmmgggggg. I had to put my fullness from dinner aside and order a gyro for myself. It was seriously the most delicious gyro I have had in the US, and writing this review is making me salivate...a lot. They fill it with meat and top it off with tomatoes, red onion, feta and some ridiculously good salsa (if you like spicy, get extra because it will blow you away). The $7 you will spend will be the best $7 spent all night and your stomach and taste buds will be jumping for joy! Oh yeah, they also take credit card, which is a plus. The only thing that sucks is that Heros Gyros is only open late-night Thursday, Friday and Saturday (10pm-4am). So right now, when I want to eat 7 of their gyros, I can't and am forced to wait until next weekend. WTF! I walked past Heros Gyros 6 Times at SXSW this year, and 3 times I purchased a Gyro from them. I am a huge fan of Gyros, and was pretty much settled on the fact that Niko Niko's was the best. Well it now has the title of best in Houston. I can't take their crown completely, but this little tent served up some late night deliciousness that never let me down. The sandwich was so loaded with Gyro meat that you have to eat quite a bit of it, before it becomes a manageable size to eat. The tzatziki and hot sauce were also spot on. We decided to try Heros because there was no wait, and then realized that was probably because nobody wanted to stand at the window and be ignored for five minutes while the four people in the truck chatted with each other. Then it took another ten minutes to get our food, and when we asked for the drink we ordered, we were rather accusedly asked if we paid for it or not. I don't mind waiting a bit for fresh cooked food, but I can see your box of Steak-Eze brand meat that touts itself as being "pre-cooked and sliced". Heros Gyros came out to my work for the first time today and I'm so glad they did. I had a lunch from home, but seeing a new truck outside I decided to give it a try, because no telling when or if they'd come back. I got the cheesesteak and I have to say for $9 I was a little surprised at how small it seemed. I opened up the foil and saw lovely cheesy goodness. I was still questioning whether I had paid too much for what I got...and then I took a bite. The flavor of the cheese, the flavorful meat, the slightly sauteed veggies, it was heaven. The bread was the perfect combination of toasted on the outside and soft in the middle. It held up perfectly to the last bite. The whole thing was juicy and just great overall. I was stuffed by the time I finished and knew my money was well spent. No complaints whatsoever. I'm hoping they come around here more often. read more

The gyros at Heros Gyros are some of the best you well ever have, but the real treat is the Philly cheese steak sandwich. I read another yelper's review, and wanted to see for myself what the side of the box said, So I had a philly on Friday. Apparently the other review was tainted with bias, because the side of the box actually says, "warning, uncooked meat, cook thoroughly blah blah blah" right below where is says pre-sliced, and pre-shaped. The important thing though, is that the philly was delicious; it was juicy, with melted cheese, perfectly sauteed veggies, and a lightly toasted bun. If anything, it was the best Philly I've ever had. I did have to wait for about 15 minutes, but it was SXSW, so that was actually pretty fast. Furthermore, their food is made to order, which makes it even better; if you don't want to wait 10 minutes on a busy night, you should probably got the McDonalds, and order just fries and a drink. As for the customer service, I don't believe the other Yelper, because she already lied about the side of the philly box, but experiences may differ. read more

I was introduced to them F1 weekend, and I was not disappointed. Too make it quick and simple, their philly cheesteak is by far my favorite philly cheesteak in all of Austin. It isn't traditional by any means, however it is definitely a great play on the philly. They cook everything right in front of you, chopping up bell peppers and onions and tomatoes, etc right in front of you. They also have gyros, falafel and pita, etc. However, I'm too much a creature of habit to order anything aside from the Philly. This food truck comes to my office building sometimes. I got it today and was quite disappointed. My chicken had lots of cartilage in it, which kinda ruined the meal. Additionaly, the gyro itself was not well put together, and I ultimately needed to eat it with a fork. The pita they use would be great for hummus or some other kind of dip, but it wasn't really the best for a gyro. Some buddies and I were in town for a bachelor party last weekend. During each of the 3 nights we spent in Austin, each of us ate here at least once. Not only was it open after the bars closed, but they serve up THE BEST gyros around. We got one of their punch cards the first night. On our last night in town, we had purchased 8 of the 9 needed to get the 10th free. When we told them that we were sorry to be leaving town and leaving that free gyro behind, she gave us that one last punch for purchasing a drink and sent us on our way with the free gyro. I work just blocks away, so this place is uber-convenient. I try to not let that sway my vote up, though. The food is great. I've had the Beef & Lamb Gyro and Cheesesteak several times each, ensuring onions are always grilled and they throw some hot stuff on there. First let me come clean and admit that I have never had a Philly cheesesteak in Philadelphia. I have however read about them, seen pictures of them, and along the way sampled many sandwiches served up under the Cheesesteak name. The gold standard for me remains Phil E's Famous, a delightful offering served up on Columbus' High Street in the late 70s. But we're here to talk about Hero's Gyros today. When something takes me into downtown Austin around lunchtime, more often than not I swing by 7th St. and Hero's Gyros. Until this week, I had always opted for the Beef & Lamb Gyro, yet to be unseated as my Gyro of choice in Austin. But variety is the spice of life and Monday, I went for the Philly Cheesesteak and was rewarded for it. A cheesesteak will win me or lose me immediately based on the bread. Too crunchy, too chewy, or too soggy and it's over, particularly in the case of something purchased on the street from a trailer. I'm not sitting down with a knife and fork to eat this thing. I don't want it spilling its contents or dripping all over me. Hero's Cheesesteak didn't. The bun was it's own piece of toasty goodness and was in the right proportion to the amount of ingredients. The grilled ribeye, peppers, onions, and melted cheese made for a flavor rich filling. Having been nicely chopped and mixed during grilling, all of the ingredients were well distributed and the last bite was as good as the first. For me, the serving size was just right and was easily managed in the foil wrapper. I'll let others decide whether this sandwich is true to it's namesake. All I can say is that Hero's Gyros Philly Cheese Steak is now my favorite cheesesteak in Austin. read more
