O man this place is awesome. My daughter brought me here for a bite to eat. We shared a table with a nice chap and had a wonderful conversation with a Londoner. The food was outstanding. Keep up the strong work Herman Ze German. I will be back next time I am in the UK.

Hands down !! The best curry fries ever !! The Vegan Hot Dog hit the spot along with its Melonlimonade !! Staff was amazing and provided options and recommendations . Place was clean and well maintained !!

Definite "must go" if you want cheap, authentic, and ridiculously delicious sausages. There are so many options. Also-- you get a LOT of food. Honestly though--the best thing on the menu is the fries. Get them with cheese and you will watch them melt cheese in a skillet until it is nice and bubbly and a little golden brown and then literally just pour it over the already perfectly seasoned fries. 10/10

I loved this place even though I'm normally not a big German food person. I would recommend the cheese fries. They day I went it was freezing out, and the fries were warmth to my soul. I also got chick sandwich, was so big I couldn't finish it. The only downside is that there were no bathrooms so make sure you go before you come here. Other than that, delicious!

In preparation for my trip to Germany over Easter, I popped into Herman ze German to acclimatise my palate As I appreciate a good pun, I was glad to see that they haven't missed the opportunity to say 'our wurst is ze best'! Very un-German humour but most appreciated by me! They do a range of sausages reminiscent of the many fast food stands I've seen in Germany. The range of sausages are grilled and therefore more healthy than the fried versions I've seen in Germany. I took mine sprinkled with their curry-tomato sauce They're a bit pricier than the German versions but if you're nostalgic for some german fast food, do pop in here

Sorry Herman, I just don't want to be porked by YOUR sausage. Just sayin'! Any excuse to lower the tone. I'm going to love any place that serves meat and carbs. Actually, a sausage specialist such as Herman ze German should really be a fave of faves. But the phrase "not so much" comes to mind. I was a little under the weather and hadn't eaten anything that day when walking past this place I got very excited. I've been wangling after this First To Review for a while. If ever their was a soulless snack bar this would be it. With all this cute marketing I was expecting so much more but the wurst was only okay and the sauerkraut was so disappointing. Not warmed up and with no bacon in it - what were they thinking? As a lunch time spot, it's not awful, it's just not great. They'll have to try harder to impress me. Even their strange array of German fizzy pop didn't wow me.

I'm half German so just happy to find a place that does things close enough to the street vendor variety I could find in my Mother's home town of Hamburg. I just feel spoilt for choice here and gosh darn it if the Wurst isn't just scrummy. I think the pricing is very reasonable for what you get and, while there is minimal communal seating, they seem to have quite a quick turnover so it's busy, buzzing but never packed. Service is really fast and friendly and YES they respond to German in German and this is a great alternative to fast food of the bland variety (not names mentioned) I kind of went for it here as I felt like a kid in a candy store or a German in a Bratwurst Store may be more apt. I had the Wurst Deal which included a Hotdog, Fries and a drink at under a tenner. I added a few toppings and you can customise the chilli level or type of wurst to make it your own. The chilli certainly catches you off guard and while I didn't feel it while consuming I had a healthy glow by the end. I did not walk away hungry that much I can assure you! They have a unique range of soft drinks that go down with ease and, within my little group of yelpers, we tasted a couple and they were very popular. Hot dogs can be a messy business so the sink to wash up is very handy. Not 100% authentic but close enough to conjure up memories of my childhood summer holidays.

I don't get all the amazing reviews?????? I had the bratwurst in a bun and side of fries. My meal was average at best. Given my German background, I'm a little insulted that this is passed as good German food. The Bratwurst itself was OK but served lukewarm. The bun was just terrible - cold, hard and too large for the size of the sausage. The Sauerkraut was tasteless. So incredibly disapointed. Fries were the "wurst' I had in London. Small, hard and overcooked. It's cool that they serve Fritz cola from Hamburg which I enjoy on my many trips to Hamburg. They also have local Hamburg brewed beer "Astra" available. Again.... I just don't get it. Very disapointed and no expectation to return. BK

    What are you ordering?
    Joice T.

German sausage anyone?? Reasonably priced. Not a lot of seating but I guess thats represented in the cost of the wurst.. I went for the wurst salad combo.. And I braved it with the spicy option which at first was too spicy but the best creeps up on you and before you know your mouth is on fire??? The apple, cheery and elderflower fizz was yummy.. I am gonna need to go back to try the other option too! And if you are a messy eater then they have catered for you with a sink to wash up.. Cause if you managed to get by with no mess, then you need either more topping or more sauce.. Lol they give fried onions out for free but all other additions do need to be paid for but 50p for gherkins? I can manage that!

Not a fan. Super salty and not nice nor my kind of food at all. Staff recommended I purchase the spicy special one. Can't remember the name. It was just salty. Not spicy. And I felt ikky after eating it as it was also super greasy... Not going back anytime soon.

    Fucking spicy fucking delicious.

I came upon this place during a night stroll and the catchy name of this place caught my attention. German food in London? Hell yeah! I got the recommendation with Lucifer's sauce on it, aka the ringer - that sounded kind of wrong. The service was extremely nice and friendly, props to those guys who were working that night. They made my day. Back onto the food, I had no idea what to expect from this place since we barely have any German food where I live but man, the first bite was gooooood. A little bit of sauce, a little of fries, a little bit of crunchy onions, a little bit of Sauerkraut, and best of all, a little bit of sausages and BAM, I was flavor town. Then came the heat. The ringer is not for the hot sauce virgins I warn you. I totally didn't expect a habanero level of spiciness but I definitely recognized its potency. Boy was it good and what a rush it was. I wished that we had Herman ze German in Canada, I know I'd go there everyday during work.

I was expecting a sit-down restaurant with a variety of German cuisine. This is more of a fast-food joint with wursts and small schnitzels (in a roll). Service was quick and staff were friendly. Food was disappointing. I won't be returning.

They claim that their Wurst is Ze Best... I had a bit of time to kill before heading back to work, so I thought I'd check out if Herman Ze German lived up to its expectations! I got Currywurst with chips. The wurst was good (not too greasy, good flavour), but I'm not sure I liked the curry sauce that much (it was a bit too sweet for me). The chips however were very VERY good (with loads of curry-salt)!! No matter what you do, GET THE CHIPS (and probably the free crispy onion topping too, because YOLO)! Currywurst + Pommes was £5.95 I think. Rolls around £5. Sounds like a great lunch deal to me! https://cakeandwhisky.wordpress.com/2015/03/20/herman-ze-german-wurst-pommes-bitte-london/

Best hog dog in London? You bet!…read more I have sampled a Big Apple hot dog on a couple of occasions and if different locations, but the most memorable was at Grillstock in Bristol. I was there for the weekend, so on the Saturday I treated myself to a 'Huge Pole' a succulent 8 inch beef & pork dog sausage seasoned with sage, mace and cayenne peppe, a real mouth fall, really delicious! Then on the Sunday we were back, my mate Dave was chatting away to the owner Abiye and the topic food challenges came up, then Abiye laid down the challenge, some guy had done a double 'Huge Pole' but someone needed to take it up a notch, yep, that guy was me. The Triple Pole: The deal was I had to fit a everything in my gob and have a bite, then I had to finish the beast and If I completed the challenge, the 'Triple Pole' would be on Abiye. Guess what? I demolished it with ease, and the main reason was the standard of those sausages, so tasty I manged three of the buggers and that's why Big Apple Hot Dogs is the best hot dog in London.

They make hot dogs sexy with a load of creations. It is unfair to compare. Top dog are their own breed (sorry). Firstly the service was faultless, perfect staff. Secondly the beer. They have a few good beers on sale. You know the hipster craft stuff that is all the rage. Last but not least the hot dogs. Has a BBQ and a chilli one. It was good. I really enjoyed. But, I can't help but feel I wouldn't pay for a hot dog like these for the price it is. A bit too much. I feel hot dogs should be a bit cheaper price point. Hot Dougs were dirt cheap (around £2.50! For simple ones). Hot Dougs also had some crazy versions like confit duck or even fois gras. One of the latest arrivals in the heart of London's Soho is TOP DOG, which as the same suggests specialists in hot dogs in a variety of glorious forms. I was lucky enough to be invited to Top Dog for an exclusive pre-launch menu tasting where I, as well as a host of other journos and influencers were given the chance to sample THE ENTIRE menu (in mini form!) and give our feedback on everything from presentation to price, names and everything in between. It was genuinely one of the coolest things I've had the opportunity to do; to have a new business welcome, and even encourage, our honest feedback to help them grow and to get it right. Top Dog is the brainchild of mega-super-businesswoman Marissa Hermer (you may recognise her from Bravo's Ladies of London) and her husband, leisure entrepreneur Matt. Marissa, a food and beverage brand management consultant, also own restaurants, bars and clubs in London and internationally, so the restaurant world is nothing new. Overseeing the new franchise is Fortnum & Mason CEO (and GQ Innovator of the Year 2014), Ewen Venters. I was lucky enough to work with Ewen during my time at Selfridges, so I was excited for this partnership. the venture is a self-funded dream, mainly started thanks to Marissa's desire to find a quality, American-style hot dog in Britain. Top Dog serves a range of taste bud-tingling hot dogs, all made from organic meat, in a range of classic and specialty ways. All of the meat is cured, smoked and hung in London, add a British element to the American theme, and ensuring quality of produce. There's even tofu dogs for veggies! There's also a selection of mouth-watering side options, from fries (and amazing sweet potato fries) to pulled pork, cabbage, slaw and chili; all which are available on your dog too! Then there's the shakes, including salted caramel, chocolate and vanilla as well as a Jack Daniels float. The Jack Daniels float was probably the greatest ways I have ever ingested alcohol. Period. I also need to take a moment to talk about the brownies. These aren't just any brownies, they are just about the best brownies I have ever eaten. We are talking so seriously soft that you can hear the moisture as you tear it apart. As for the taste? I ate three in a row so that should answer that one. Top Dog is a really exciting addition to the Soho line up. I love that they have worked really hard to integrate into the psyche of the neighborhood; it seamlessly blends in. Where as other eateries, that shall remain nameless, have exploded onto the street uncaring for the aesthetics of Soho and now cause a jarring view for Soho lovers. Continuing the idea of becoming part of the neighborhood, a nod also needs to be paid to the Top Dog's awareness of it's local clientele - during London Pride, Top Dog renamed it's signature Soho Dog to the Pride Dog, with one pound from each sale going to a LGBT charity. Good food and good for the soul. WINNING. Head to my profile for more reviews of London restaurants and find out more, including pictures, on my blog, The Science of Appearance.
