I finally gave in ... as a reluctant German who spent most of her adult life avoiding meat and who hates terrible branding, I did a good job of avoiding Herman (don't make me say the rest) despite everyone raving about it. Until now .... Sausages are just the perfect lunchtime alternative if you are fed up with sandwiches but don't fancy investing time and money in a proper meal. The choice was a bit overwhelming, but I get the feeling you can't really go wrong. Unless you are veggie, of course, in which case your choice is limited to exactly one option - one more than in Germany! I felt opting for Currywurst would have been too easy and asked for an option including Sauerkraut. Can't remember the name of the sausage but it was tasty, especially once I covered it in mustard (not too hot, not too sweet) and ketchup (not Heinz) - the crispy onion sprinkles were complimentary and took me right back to being a teenager. As you can probably tell by my condiment excitement, I usually avoid fast food outlets - this may not have been the last exception.

Herman Ze German is probably my favourite quick meal restaurant in London. It is the one place that I recommend to every single one of my friends, whether they live in London or if they are visiting. I haven't had the opportunity to try any of the non-sausage menu items. But out of the things that I have tried, nothing has been short of amazing. The sausage in a roll meal option is very economical and tastes great. The chilli sausage is not too spicy while the garnishes are excellent. I usually go for the chilli sausage with crispy onions and sauerkraut however I've had the Currywurst as well. The curry sauces are all amazing and if you can handle the spice, I definitely recommend the spiciest sauce (I believe it's called burner or ringer). The frites are definitely the best I've had ever. #onpoint. They are never oily and are always cooked to crispy perfection. The beer options are excellent and you can even have a stein option. However, my favourite thing about Herman are the German soda options. The Fitz-Kola and Fritz-Lemon taste amazing and is usually what I order.

What find. I just loved this place. Reminds me of a taste of Berlin when I visited there and discovered the currywurst. Great friendly service here and nice choice of fast food. Licensed too so can also grab some good German beers. I went for a hot large bockwurst. My friend had the chilliwurst and was well hot at the end. Good job he don't go hotter with the sauce. Want to come back and try a hotter sauce. Just wish we had one of these places in brum Not the cheapest for fast food. £32 for two with beers. But worth it for if you are currywurst fan

I stumbled across this place as I waited for an event over the road, and I'm so glad I did. The food is surprisingly cheap for the area it's located in, meaning my pork and veal sausage smothered in crispy onions and happiness came in under a fiver. It was fairly filling, but I could have eaten another one straight after!

Bockwurst in a roll. The wurst was smaller than the bun.

I wish I can say the same thing as other customers, or at least eat the same thing as others. Instead, what was served to me as I ordered a bockwurst in a roll with crispy onions is a poor excuse of a German hot dog. The bun was very stall, hard to bite in, while the wurst itself tastes like packaged sausage, very small in size. It is very bland and definitely not smoky. The crispy onions did not help but rather gave the roll a drier texture. Overall it did not live up to its image and especially the price. On the other hand, service was okay, attentive and helpful. The ambience is pretty laid back, it would be a nice place to hang out with friends, if not for the quality of the food.

Really good German sausages and great service. The currywurst with chilli sauce is the best one with the lemonade. I also have to say, some of the waitresses are super gorgeous!

We were in town & were craving a good hot dog so we decided to stop by her after the zoo. We got the one of their specials with jalapeños tasted great came with fries for 7.95 plus we got a Cuba libre cocktail tasted amazing & went perfect with our hotdog overall recommend this place. Customer service is great also.

When you're craving wurst, Herman Ze German hits the spot! For Americans like me who did not know, currywurst is sausage topped with a ketchup tomato-based sauce with curry spices - quite delicious and reminiscent of chili. For a little over £5, I got a bratwurst sausage, topped with currywurst and crunchy fried onions in a roll. For about £1 more, you can add a generous side of seasoned pommes frites. Everything was tasty, friendly service, and they have a nice selection of German sodas. Great lunch spot!

    Soooooo good!

Had a really yummy lunch here - I went for the bratwurst in a bun with cheesey pommes, while my husband has curry wurst and chips, piled high with curry sauce, onions and jalapeños. Both choices proved delicious and were delivered speedily to our table - always a bonus when you're grabbing lunch of a workday. I've been told (and can well believe) that it gets very busy later in the week, but I wouldn't mind having to queue for a wurst as delicious as this.

Pork schnitzel with a side of salad

I came here on a random weekday and the place was pretty empty. I had no idea why I decided to have such a heavy lunch, but I ordered the pork schnitzel with a side of salad and fries. Pork Schnitzel: I originally wanted the chicken schnitzel, but they were out that day. I opted for the pork schnitzel instead. It literally tasted like crispy pankoed bacon. Except the cut wasn't pork belly. It just had the smoky flavor of bacon. Delicious. Dill Aioli/dressing: I usually don't like dill, but this was great! Wasn't too sure if it was for the schnitzel or the salad. Either way, I used it for both. Salad: This salad... I don't even know why, but it was so good??? I think it was the sweet granny smith apples. Maybe the dill aioli? Fries: Pretty standard. Would recommend to try at least once!

Curry wurst and its pork schnitzel are the best. Their frites (chips) also perfect crisp and salty enough. I also love their flavoured beer.

We walked past it twice before realising where it was. Described as London's first German gastropub (a fairly safe claim) they offer 40 odd different beers. Some excellent choices, if a little pricy. DAB, a light and crisp easy drinker from Dortmund is a semi regular treat when bought from Oddbins, here it's over £4 a pint. They offer a range of wurst (including the ubiquitous currywurst) alongside a selection of schnitzels, a more Austrian treat, but one known across both countries. On previous visits I've sampled these, and can particularly recommend the Schnitzel Kolsche Art, the traditional pan fried pork escalope coated in breadcrumbs, served in this instance with a black pudding and apple sauce mix. It isn't gourmet, but does as its makers intended and serves up a hearty filler to put a cap on the foamy lager you've just sculled.

I didn't feel like alcohol and mainly came for the food, ordered tap water and got an odd look from the bartender as in "you do know this is a beer garden right". I approve of the chicken schnitzel, it is beaten well and not a dry piece. Normally schnitzel is a lottery where 50 percent of the time it will be dry like a bad Thanksgiving turkey where you need to gulp water excessively. My theory is the skill is in the beating of the chicken along with the timing of the frying. Other than that, it's obviously just breaded chicken. You can order it regular or small size. The chips on the side are really good and you get a red cabbage salad as well. Any sauces cost extra. The potato salad was also good and a generous serving for only 2.5£. I think the allergen information might be wrong, because it says that mashed potatoes has nuts in it. Maybe it's a German thing. Bill dropped off at the table before food being served, gave the feeling of 'finish your meal and leave so I can close up early', but maybe I'm overthinking. I would consider coming back on a day when it's a bit more lively. Vegan options available for those who think a seitan schnitzel sounds like good idea - not me.

Best hog dog in London? You bet!…read more I have sampled a Big Apple hot dog on a couple of occasions and if different locations, but the most memorable was at Grillstock in Bristol. I was there for the weekend, so on the Saturday I treated myself to a 'Huge Pole' a succulent 8 inch beef & pork dog sausage seasoned with sage, mace and cayenne peppe, a real mouth fall, really delicious! Then on the Sunday we were back, my mate Dave was chatting away to the owner Abiye and the topic food challenges came up, then Abiye laid down the challenge, some guy had done a double 'Huge Pole' but someone needed to take it up a notch, yep, that guy was me.
