Chicken Sandwiches with and onion ring and amazing sauces!
    Keith J.

The burger was better than the chicken! I know because I ordered both. The chicken sauces were very good and I really enjoyed the type of bacon. The service here was amazing and they made sure we were well taken care of. This place is very quick with ordering and if you are looking to take a break from the shopping in Oxford Square this place may be the best spot for you!

I've been here twice & tried the chicken & waffles as well as the habanero wings. I'm not giving five stars primarily because the seasoning on the chicken finger & the wings could be better. The breading on the tenders was awesome. The chipotle wings are not spicy at all. Not even a bit of a kick. The Arnold Palmer (I had strawberry lemonade) was pretty good. They use crunchy ice which I love! Would go back again to try something else in the menu.

This was THE hardest restaurant I've ever tried to find. Ever. In any city. I'm not blaming Stax of course, I had the address and a mental map of the area but still could not find it. Then I noticed a little opening squished between two buildings with a sign of "Kingly Court" right above the doorway. I must have walked by it two or three times without realising. I think I was expecting a bigger sign pointing it out, so for anyone like me just a note look carefully for the sign. We came here for our 4th of July lunch/snack because Stax was having a 2-for-1 on milkshakes and ice cream floats. I love ice cream floats! Especially root beer ones which I don't think are common in the UK. I ordered the "Brown Cow" a.k.a. a root beer float which came in a glass with a can of A&W containing the rest of the soda. I honestly thought this would be bottomless as one can wasn't filling enough for me. Really glad we came during their special as I don't think it's worth it to get two on a normal occasion. Their cajun blooming onion on the other hand will be ordered every time I come here! I was very impressed by the size, the crispiness, the seasoning, and the dipping sauce. It really is meant to be split between two - we came starving and we were almost unable to finish it. The dipping sauce was my favourite, garlic and kind of mildly chipotle. It paired perfectly with the onion. In terms of being located in Kingly Court, despite me taking forever to find it at first I'm very glad it is located here. It was so nice and calm, it felt so secluded from the hustle and bustle of the city despite being right next to Regent Street. The diner itself is small and an odd long rectangle design but during off-peak hours there were no problems of people bumping into us to get pass. I can imagine there may be some problems when it's crowded. Service was also pleasant and helpful, our server even wished me a "Happy 4th" which I appreciated. I can't wait to come back and try other Southern favourites, particularly the chicken and waffles. A great place for American food, I will definitely be back.

Went to Stax tonight following reading a review on the internet. Nice relaxed American styled diner, overlooking a court yard just off of Carnaby Street. I ordered a local (from Hackney!) lager, with a chicken burger and fries. The beer was lovely. The chicken was juicy with a lovely crunchy buttermilk coating. The fries were flavoursome! All in all the food was great! Service was ok. Attentive, prompt and accurate. I dined here alone (in town on business) and it was fine. Great people watching spot.

In my quest to find the best burgers in London, I stumbled across Stax Diner in a few burger blogs. I've been working temporarily in central London, and so I made a trip there one day for lunch. The burger was pretty good. Served pink, which is my preference, and the meat was really tender. I did, however, feel that it could have been seasoned a bit more, but I guess that's just because of my taste for salt. Overall, I was impressed, although it was a little more expensive than some of my favourite burger places.

Stax Diner is in a great location - it's based in Kingly Court, right off of Carnaby Street. It's on the 1st floor (2nd floor for Americans). The weather was nice when I went so that windows and doors were open. It has a lovely al fresco feel to it. The food was fantastic. If you're a fan of American-style burgers, this is the place for you. Start with the Stax burger, then add whatever fittings/toppings/condiments you fancy. It's super messy but worth it! The sides are great. My friend and I shared slightly spiced cajun fries and the onion blossom. I absolutely loved the onion blossom. It's a large dish therefore great for sharing. I didn't get a chance to try the milkshakes so can't comment on it. I'll definitely come back and make sure I save room for it. Highly recommended for people to enjoy burgers and fries. For vegetarians - there is a fried green tomato sandwich that looks amazing.

Another American-styled burger joint in London! Not too bad actually, the burger patties are super crumbly making eating a bit messy yet maintaining all the natural juices and flavoring. The "Big Stax" and the "Bring Home the Bacon" burgers were nice, patties were juicy yet the buns were not soggy. Always a plus. Wasn't a huge fan of the fries they served. In the States, they'd be wedges. Though I'm quite particular with my fries, preferring crunchy and golden as opposed to softer wedges. I think if they cut them smaller, theyd probably be able to achieve that crispier texture. My English friend Bobby says, "The chicken was heavenly soft yet saltily crunchy. The waffle base, a perfect foundation to absorb the counterpunching syrup." (Clearly this guy has never had chicken and waffles before.) Chicken and waffles were great, I'm guessing this dish isn't too common in the UK. I think overall this place has potential. Today was the second day they've been open, a soft opening. Most probably come back in a bit when they've settled in a bit! Ps. They ran out to A&W root beer which was disappointing, but hey, it's on the menu and that's spectacular.

Stax is yet another US diner in London's Carnaby street. The venue is rather small and narrow with an open kitchen, beware the frying fumes will make your clothes smell due to the lack of ventilation! There is hardly enough space for the servers to walk past without brushing against diners each time. We went one evening during the half price soft opening period. I had wanted to try the shrimps but these were sold out for the day along with most of the desserts. Our food order included: Stax burger Chickadee - buttermilk chicken in brioche bun Cajun onion blossom Apple poppyseed coleslaw Iceberg wedge Fries My favourite was the chickadee burger, the buttermilk fried chicken was coated in a light crispy batter. The onion blossom appears on the menu as a 'must have.' I was not at all impressed with the onion blossom which is basically a large onion cut into the shape of a flower coated in batter and fried, £6.50 for such a dish is on the high side! No wonder it is shown as a must have, the profit margin on this would surely be immense to cover the premium rent. I ordered the coleslaw due to the description of apple coleslaw but did not taste any apple? When the iceberg wedge was served I just starred at it lost for words, the presentation could have been much more creative; serving it in a bowl instead of on a plate would have helped make it look more appealing. I doubt that I will return to stax diner, there are simply better and more comfortable places to go for similar food.

Coke float and the Oreos milkshake

Tucked away on the first floor of Kingly court, off of Carnaby Street, this place has the best fried chicken and waffles I've tasted in London. The waffles are light, fluffy, and sweet. And the chicken's crispy and moist. Perfect combination. The other standout items the menu, definitely, are the milkshakes. I had the classic oreos and cream. Delicious. Definitely worth the trip.

Wow I'm glad I stopped by and tried this place before leaving London. I haven't been to a burger place this good throughout my whole Paris and London trip. If you're wanting a halal or any burger fix come here. The beef bacon in the burger is a bit interesting (more chewy and sweet) I didn't really care for it so I would say skip it. This is probably the closest you'll get to an American burger fix. I ordered the stax original with cheese, caramelized onions, and pickles, side of Cajun fries, and the New York mocktail. Everything was excellent. They have plenty of other things on the menu like milk shakes, mocktails, chicken burgers, chicken and waffles..etc. if you're looking for place to eat and you're close to stax then come here asap. The service is fast, ambiance is nice, it's really busy around 5ish so come early to avoid lines.

While I was in London to celebrate the new year, my wife and I were craving some good ol' burgers. Strangely enough we heard about Stax Diner on the Food Network in the morning while we were figuring out our day, and Stax is Delicious just like Food Network said. We both ordered the Stax Burger, I got mine with a double stack (two patties). We were both very impressed with the burgers. Burgers had a great charcoal flavor and juicy, bun was fluffy and nicely toasted/warm, also bun did not become overly soggy when eat'n from the juicy burger meat, and cheese was melted and oozing out, just straight perfection. Cajun fries were nice and crispy, and not too spicy. Atmosphere and servers very friendly and attentive. My wife says it's not better than Butch Annie's, which is located in Cambridge, U.K. I'm torn because they are both very delicious! Good news is I have an AMAZING burger joint to go to if in Cambridge or London, oh because I'll definitely be going back!!

    Waffle with southern fried chicken.

Stax Diner at Kingly Court in Soho does pretty tasty milkshakes and absolutely delightful waffle with crispy chicken, going well with crunchy chips. I've heard a lot of good things about Stax Diner since it opened and finally managed to go there a few months ago. I was surprised about how small it is. Fortunately, I did not have to wait and got a place straight away. Going through the menu, I decided to skip desserts and instead had an Oreo milkshake. It was delicious. At times it was pretty thick, making it a bit difficult to drink. Admittedly, I am no expert in milkshakes - so I simply think that's probably how it's supposed to be. As main dish I ordered waffle with southern fried chicken. I really liked the waffle together with the chicken. The fried chicken pieces were nicely spiced and perfectly crispy on the outside. Now, I only had one little problem with this dish: waffles with maple syrup, good, waffles with chicken, great, waffles with maple syrup and chicken - really? For me, maple syrup has no place there. As side, I had cajun fries. They were lovely crunchy skin-on chips with a beautiful mild heat. Overall, I was very happy with my food, only the service was perhaps a tiny bit slow. If you like crispy chicken and find yourself in Soho, you should definitely give Stax Diner a try!

I wanted something with at least one good veggie option, they wanted something with meat, and it had to be somewhere in-between Camden and Canary Wharf, not too pricey, and ideally close to the city because otherwise our Italian friend probably wouldn't make it. And lo and behold.... THE FAT BEAR!!! It was all we wanted and more! This place is sort of tucked away and up some stairs above a pub. It's really just a room and a half, which makes it super cozy and they have a pretty awesome looking bar. It's got warm lighting which makes the atmosphere really nice. Their cocktails were delightful and the service was excellent. I will make a very strange observation that someone working there had a very drunk friend who just sort of made herself at home. Then more joined and it turned into me watching this table of really really drunk people trying to order food. Two of them ended up just falling asleep. It was super strange. Anyway, me being distracted aside, I really loved the cocktail I ordered- Sloe Boat To China, and everyone else seemed happy with theirs. I was dying to try the pimiento cheese starter and the fried pickles. The cheese was particularly sharp and delicious. The pickles were good, but quite skinny (I mean come on, you're in an American restaurant I was expecting some serious pickles). The vegan gumbo was super spicy and delicious. I was impressed and enjoyed it. My husband dropped the ball and ordered the regular jambalaya (with sausage) rather than the seafood one which broke my heart a little bit, because I really wanted to try it. You know, I guess that means we'll just have to come back. Oh also another bonus, this place has brisket which is really hard to find. I can't say how it tastes but my friend said he defo approves (am I becoming more British with these words, or just more annoying?) Anyway, to finish it off I had the oreo cheesecake which the bomb. I love oreos. And it tasted like oreo. So all was right with the world. A wonderful place to come if you have people who want to try American food, or if you have out of town Americans who are too scared to try other food, or if you have hungry friends that want to try cajun food, or if you just want to try some really yummy food.

Came here for pre-theater anniversary dinner with my wife. The ambiance was somewhere between that of a trendy club and nice bar. There was a mad scientist vibe with the lights being industrial vibe and some metal decor. The music was thumpy and loud enough to remind you it was there. It made me feel a bit out-of-place as somebody well past my 20s, but also a bit cool or being there. You really come here for the drinks. We got the pipe dream, smokey old fashioned, honeypot picante, and one other I can't remember the name of, but which came in a flower pot. The pipe dream and smokey old fashioned were likely the best. Overall the drinks were more visually appealing than traditionally good and the visually appealing ones tended to have ingredients that weren't as top shelf and/or they were just too sweet. Not bad, but disappointing for what we'd hope. The food was the opposite. I had low expectations and the food wasn't amazing, but was better than average. We got the bao buns, crispy duck pancakes, panko halloumi, katsu curry, and hot honey pork tacos. They arranged for it all to come out in time for us to make our theater show, which was nice. The bao buns and pork tacos were probably the best. Neither blew me away, but both were solid. The katsu curry and halloumi were standard of what you might expect. The crispy duck pancakes was maybe as advertised, but it would have been nice to have some moistness or substance to the dug vs. it basically being crunchy salty bits of something. Overall, this wasn't a bad meal, but it wasn't quite what I was hoping for either. We may be back, but we'll probably try other things first.

It's a mixed experience, and different to the US, but the bottom line is the food is still to die for. Sweet Chick don't do reservations. Which is fine - the US locations are tiny, you wait which creates a buzzy atmosphere for others, etc. The London version copies this. But when we visited for an early dinner Saturday, the venue was half empty. Hoping to eat quickly, we were told to sit at the bar, for "at most a half hour". We did this. During this time, achingly hipster bartenders slowly made cocktails from cheat sheets. The place is new, I get it, but the staff at the front end are there to bring you in. The hostess continually seated larger parties ahead of us, and at times just hung out while tables were available. This is super annoying - it's clearly part of the process, and designed to get you to spend. There was no flexibility to it, and the experience wasn't welcoming so much as just awkward. BUT - once we were seated, it became a totally different experience. Lovely, attentive service for a start. Help with choosing menu items if you want it, fast delivery that doesn't rush you, and the food...Goddamn the food. Carbs on carbs on carbs. Gooey mac and cheese with a hint of spice and crunchy crumb coating...delicious melt in the mouth biscuits (savoury scones to us) with a salt and herb crust and about a tub of butter in each... and all that before the main course. Chicken and waffles is the staple, and more than filling. Two chicken pieces, deep fried but not greasy, with a waffle. It isn't fancy, and doesn't need to be. It's just delicious and well made. Prices are reasonable - mains are in the £13-£24 range. Cocktails are nicely varied, made with cheap liquor which is a shame, but still pretty tasty. And maybe if they can iron out the intro experience to make it feel less like every other London restaurant and more like the NY joint, it would be a five star experience. Until then, put up with weird intro, it's worth it for the food. Just leave your belt at home.

I made a reservation online with Seven Rooms. The address is in the business' name. To get to this restaurant you can take the Piccadilly line and exit Piccadilly Circus and it's less than a 10 minutes walk over. We headed to the area a little early to explore Piccadilly Circus and Fortnum and Mason next door. Upon entering, there is a coat check that can take our outerwear or backpacks. The card they gave us for our belongings were really fancy. Then we were seating at a cozy half booth. Since we knew what we wanted, we were able to quickly order when our server came around to take our orders. We wanted the Beef Wellington for 2 (£99.50) that comes with sides of Dauphinoise Potatoes and Green Beans in Peppercorn Sauce. We were surprised to be told it would be a 40 minutes wait time for the Beef Wellington due to the tableside sauce making, and it seemed like only one person was performing this task. We got some bread to start, but I didn't want to eat too much cause it would ruin my appetite for the main attraction. I also ordered a glass of Massale Pinot Noir (£15.25) and asked that it would be brought out when the food was ready. When the food was finally ready the tableside service was a fun show. All the ingredients were premeasured for the tableside chef, and he showed us every single ingredient he put it. Then he skillfully cut up the wellington without cracking or denting the crust. He mentioned starting out in pastry so he has some moves. The meal was a fantastic treat and the sides were much appreciated. The dauphinoise potatoes and green beans paired well with the wellington. The beef was cooked perfectly medium rare and evenly. The whole experience was definitely a treat. I would recommend it if you're looking to try a beef wellington... After experiencing the Sunday Roast in London, I would say the Sunday Roast experience was less expensive for equivalent or greater enjoyment. Nevertheless this is one of the better value establishments if you are looked specifically for a beef wellington experience.

It's at the end of the street on the corner, so don't let an Uber drop you off in the middle of the street and make you look for 45. The waiters were very nice, patient and attentive. There was a waitress who showed us each ingredient she used to make the sauce for our Beef Wellington. At the end she flambayed our sauce and we poured it on the Wellington. I didn't really feel like it added anything significant in flavor to it. The restaurant is nice and I agree with other critiques; you can go in casual but you're better off dressing nicely. I would definitely eat there again. They had a delicious potato augratin and garlic green beans.

My partner and I visited on New Years Eve. I'm not sure if this is always the case, but the music playing was primarily American rock - like The Eagles, Neil Young, etc. It's fine, but not very in line with the classic, upscale feel. The bartending staff was top notch. I had a martini and my partner had a house Manhattan, both were perfect. We shared the iceberg wedge to start, a personal favorite, and this one was spot on. Great bleu cheese dressing, still warm lardons, and crispy, fresh iceberg lettuce. For mains, I ordered the aged Irish ribeye and chose to have it "gorgonzola encrusted". This was the first misstep. First of all, the grass fed beef stands on its own, I would never choose to add a sauce, but this was encrusted, right? Not so much. Here's the definition of encrusted from the Oxford dictionary: "Covered or decorated with a HARD surface layer". What I received was a steak smothered in (a very lovely) gorgonzola SAUCE with some bacon and spring onions. Had I known it was a sauce, I would have skipped it, or at the very least had it served on the side. Slightly disappointing, but the steak was perfectly medium rare and delicious. My partner ordered the hake. It was served with a prawn and a very tasty tarragon pesto. She said the pesto was the star. The fish was delicate and also well prepared. We shared sauteed spinach and roasted mushrooms, both delicious. For dessert we shared the banana and toffee mousse. This was the second misstep. This was a tasty dessert, but it was definitely not mousse. It was a very small sliver of banana bread (?). It had strong banana flavor and was served with rum raisin ice cream which was nice. It was also thankfully a very small portion as we were stuffed. Overall, a very decadent and elegant meal to ring in the new year!

Service was quick and personal, the atmosphere was great and we had some amazing food again. My filet was spectacular and thats comparing to many top steakhouses in the US and Australia. My only negative comment is the cost. Compared to similar steakhouses overseas its more expensive. Despite that I'll be back next time I'm in London.
