Garfunkels is like the English version of Claimjumper, minus the massive American portions. A chain that offers traditional English breakfast amongst other standard fare. I've been to this location twice; once in 2010 and again during my recent visit. The food is usually good and service prompt. I don't recommend the fried calamari, though. I ordered it the last time I was here and it was stringy and had a fishy aftertaste. No bueno. The English breakfast is always a good bet and it's served all day. Kid's menu offers the usual stuff (pasta, nuggets, pizza, etc). While it may not be the most original or glamorous place to dine while you're in London, it will serve its purpose if you're looking for a no frills, but sit down, quick bite to eat in a family friendly setting. read more

I have noticed that servers in Europe are a lot more laid back compared to the U.S. at first it was weird but I learned to just enjoy my meals without hurrying. Alright, let me just say this: There are a lot of really cool things about the United Kingdom, especially London. The history, the architecture, the diversity, the attractions, a lot of cool things. The food is not one of them. I hate to say it, but that stereotype about England having horrible food is kind of true. Unless it's an upscale restaurant, most of the average diners and cafes on the street are not that great. I'd take a Sonic above a Pret-a-Manger any day, sorry guys. However, I remember Garfunkel's, at least this location (which I believe is the one right by Trafalgar Square), as being above average. Their shepherd's pie was tasty, as were the chips (fries). They had a decent beer selection, and seating was nice inside and on the sidewalk. The best food in London! We went on our last night in London because we were so tired of walking around and traveling that we went downstairs from Club Quarters and just wanted a quick bit. Well to our surprise it was absolutely amazing! The best service, the best food and the best accommodations we ran into in London. We ate here on our first night in London, primarily as it was two doors down from our hotel and we were too jet-lagged to be adventurous. The food wasn't bad, but it wasn't great. My burger seemed somewhat pre-fab. My daughter's meatballs in her spaghetti had what she described as an 'Asian vibe'. I don't recall what my wife got. Went on a Saturday at around 2-3pm. It wasn't busy at all, probably around 3 tables were taken up in the entire restaurant. The atmosphere is very clean, friendly, music but it wasn't over bearing. DON'T GO! So so disappointed. This is only busy because its in a hot tourist area. The food is a joke. The chocale shake had no ice cream in it. They evwn remade it and it came out the same. They were out of all pot pies no chick no beef. Ordered southern fried chicken sandwich it was just 2 chicken tenders in a sandwich. Very sad sandwich. . This was a solid lunch meal. In our group, we had the avocado toast, fish cake, and ham steak. Curiously, the chips with the latter two were very different. It's a popular chain establishment, but I don't think you can really go wrong with Garfunkel's. If you're looking to tentatively try some British favorites without breaking the bank on a specialty place, I'd say this is a good place to go. I had their Garfunkel's Breakfast -- which, to someone who normally avoids breakfast diners like Denny's or IHOP in the States -- was a blessing. The food is of good quality for a chain -- it's obvious to see that items are mass-produced and/or sent in packages to each franchise, but the preparation is good and the cooks perform their functions well. Service at this venue was also good -- my server was attentive and came by often to check on whether I needed more refills of my cappucino (free refills if bought with a 5.95GBP breakfast deal)! No complaints! It's a great place to go if on a budget or a time crunch. read more

I have to admit I don't like chain restaurants, and I got dragged to this one for a quick bite. It reminded me of Denny's, a place I won't eat at. Had a burger, which was dry but somewhat palatable with the ketchup/relish mix on top. My companions were not too fond of their food either, and service was quite slow. I'd say that if one has kids, this could be ok, but I wouldn't bring my kids here.
