At the risk of offending my German friends, I don't think German food will be storming the bastions of fine dining anytime soon. However, bratwurst, their signature street fast food does make for a satisfying snack In keeping with the fast food philosophy, the menu is simple - a choice of 3 sausages with traditional accompaniments. Prices are reasonable In Germany, bratwurst would sometimes be a late night snack to assuage late night munchies. In London, it's an option for a cheap lunch but I wouldn't travel for one At this price, give it a try. What's the wurst that could happen?

I've been meaning to pay Herman Ze German a visit for a while. As I had an hour to spare whilst waiting on friends, I decided to give is a go yesterday. The interior is pretty basic, with wooden bench tables and bench chairs, with bare walls broken up with a bit of neon signage. The counter is at the far end, with again a basic mix of food choices. On my visit they were out of Curry Wurst and also out of cheese (not a good sign for early on a Saturday evening). I felt like a lite option (It's not the best place for that really). I went for the Wurst and Salad. I opted for the Guest Wurst, which was a mixture of beef, pork and garlic. I was really pleased as the wurst was really tasty. It came with ample salad. The salad also included small pieces of apple, which gave it a nice twist. The staff were very pleasant, although food seems to be the main driver here, and not service. I will definately come back, as I was to try the Chilli Wurst and the Curry Wurst. If you are looking for a fast food outlet, it a great change from a burger or burrito outlet. I'd say give it a go!

For some years, Herman ze German was a little and excellent wurst shop between Charing Cross and Embankment. However, in August 2013, Herman ze German upped their game and expanded into Soho. The second location in Old Compton Street is much bigger than the original shop and also features a few new items on the menu alongside the known food and drinks offerings that include great products like fritz-kola from Hamburg. With more space, the new location offers a different experience that goes far beyond the take-away snack appeal of the first location. It even features a toilet downstairs, and when I was there I could listen to funny sounds from the German version of Adventures of the Gummi Bears. That alone should be reason enough to come back. If you like hot dog, meat balls, schnitzel and fries, Herman ze German is a restaurant you should not miss.

Well it is what it is guys! Fast food authentic german style. Having had the same in Germany it is identical with the curry sauce being what it is, in my opinion better than what you would get here in the UK. Don't expect waiter service and 5 star restaurant, its FAST FOOD folks and does exactly what it says!

Looking for food late one Saturday night in London, and found this German sausage place. We had the Bratwurst and Bratwurst on a bun, and was surprised by the good quality sausage and the sauce. Good atmosphere and was very busy on Saturday night. Disappointed that they ran out of fries that night. Overall recommend this place for a great bite and good quality German sausage!

I do like a long, hot sausage in my mouth and that's just what Herman supplied when I ordered the Currywurst and chips. Served with the "burner" sauce to spice things up, since the "hot" sauce isn't really up to its namesake, and topped with freshly sprinkled crispy onion particles for free; it made for a sehr lecker Deutsche meal. The Würste are of fine quality and seem authentic, while ordering at the counter and friendly staff make the whole experience very efficient indeed. The decor is decidedly German with a hint of hipster which makes for a pleasant atmosphere for a quick meal. The synthpop Lederhosen music, on the other hand, could have come from any decade and was on the brink of unpleasant. The price seemed a little steeper than I remembered last, but there is still value for money.

I love German food- so was keen to try this place. Having been here twice now I feel comfortable giving a review. It's a good place to grab a quick meal. I appreciate the fact they have a vegetarian sausage option- truly I do. The only problem is it's very very dry and was on two separate occasions. Even when you add copious amounts of ketchup. The chain needs to review how the veggie sausages are being cooked and improve the end result. My husband who orders the meat version says the meat version is great on the contrary. When ordering toppings- the crispy onions are free which is great. Good selection of German beers and soft drinks and seating inside is good.

Hermen ze German. I really enjoyed curry bratwurst and decided to upgrade to a double sausage for £2 which I thought was a very good deal, with fries and sauerkraut (which cost 50p extra) but it finished off the meal. I would definitely recommend for you to try it and when I'm back in London I will be going back because it was value for money for this type of experience

Herman ze German is always great when grandma comes for a visit. she loves 'schnitzel mit pommes' or 'bratwurst und sauerkraut'. bratwurst and currywurst are also available for vegetarians! the meat tastes awesome and the price is appropriate

I didn't feel like alcohol and mainly came for the food, ordered tap water and got an odd look from the bartender as in "you do know this is a beer garden right". I approve of the chicken schnitzel, it is beaten well and not a dry piece. Normally schnitzel is a lottery where 50 percent of the time it will be dry like a bad Thanksgiving turkey where you need to gulp water excessively. My theory is the skill is in the beating of the chicken along with the timing of the frying. Other than that, it's obviously just breaded chicken. You can order it regular or small size. The chips on the side are really good and you get a red cabbage salad as well. Any sauces cost extra. The potato salad was also good and a generous serving for only 2.5£. I think the allergen information might be wrong, because it says that mashed potatoes has nuts in it. Maybe it's a German thing. Bill dropped off at the table before food being served, gave the feeling of 'finish your meal and leave so I can close up early', but maybe I'm overthinking. I would consider coming back on a day when it's a bit more lively. Vegan options available for those who think a seitan schnitzel sounds like good idea - not me.

We walked past it twice before realising where it was. Described as London's first German gastropub (a fairly safe claim) they offer 40 odd different beers. Some excellent choices, if a little pricy. DAB, a light and crisp easy drinker from Dortmund is a semi regular treat when bought from Oddbins, here it's over £4 a pint. They offer a range of wurst (including the ubiquitous currywurst) alongside a selection of schnitzels, a more Austrian treat, but one known across both countries. On previous visits I've sampled these, and can particularly recommend the Schnitzel Kolsche Art, the traditional pan fried pork escalope coated in breadcrumbs, served in this instance with a black pudding and apple sauce mix. It isn't gourmet, but does as its makers intended and serves up a hearty filler to put a cap on the foamy lager you've just sculled.
