Saw several locations before finally stopping in this one, my curiosity piqued by their advertising of being THE spot to get a "proper burger." Spoiler alert, they are overpriced and need improvement, as do the shakes. The burgers at the pub across the street are probably a better bet, unfortunately. Burger was received as ordered, double-stack. Their house beer cheese is tasty and the beef is flavorful and juicy. However, the patties are poorly formed, largely unseasoned, and small (6oz, hence the double). Mixed feelings on this but a burger shouldn't be domed in the middle nor should it be without basic seasoning unless it really is superior quality. And even then! We also ordered a freakshake, something they're known for. Our server said they were out of multiple ingredients to make it, so we switched to an alcoholic shake (Reeses with a shot of rum, as advertised). We received a thin, icy concoction that didn't taste much like peanut butter, along with a separate shot to be mixed in ourselves, making the consistency even thinner. Getting back from Southampton late after being at a game, we were hungry and needed a quick bite. That can be hard to come by in the Earl's Court neighborhood. Thankfully Byron was still open and able to seat us. My husband and I both had the Byron burger with a beer and my niece indulges in the brownie sundae. The bacon was thick, the cheddar was plentiful and the Byron sauce added a nice layer of flavor but didn't overwhelm the burger. Our waitress was attentive but not hovering and pleasant to have. The food was simple and tasty. Nothing super fancy, but hit the spot at this late hour. Great local chain that reminded me of some of the local chains back home. Simple, good food. While there are some good points about them, I have to say overall it was dissatisfactory here. The shakes were great! A good size, nice consistency, and delicious. The Cobb salad was a decent size, too. However, the burger was a bit smaller than I'm used to, and for £8.50, I'd call it terribly undersized. Not to mention it wasn't even hot when it was served. A room-temperature burger just isn't very appetizing, and when your sign advertises "proper burgers" (and even if it doesn't), you should be producing burgers properly IMO. Now, is it just me, or when you see "bacon cheese fries" on the menu, don't you expect there to be bacon and cheese throughout the order? Because what we got was a cup of fries with a little cheese and bacon on the top. Some of the cheese melted down into the cup, so at least some fries had cheese in them, but the little sprinkle of bacon on top was hardly enough to be considered an ingredient in my opinion. I think like five fries actually had bacon on them. The best thing about our visit was our server, Evy, who was helpful, engaging, and attentive to our table, so props to her! The first time I went to Byron I was amazed, I thought I just had the perfect hamburger, reached the perfect balance of taste, salt and sweet of the sauce. I really enjoyed and advertised proudly to all my best friend, this until i noticed the quality going down a little. May be the busy time, may be the chef who had a hard day, you know...I understand that can happen sometimes. Maybe the management got a change? What I can say is that that perfect taste and balance and also service which made me love at first sight this restaurant, well, vanished. Really charming interior. Really good burgers. I had the portobello which was substantial - perhaps even more so than their classic hamburger which my dining partner ordered (not that she remarked on it being too small - in fact she took some of hers to go). We shared an order of fries between us and both left satisfied. The portobello mushroom was juicy and flavorful and well accompanied by the grilled red peppers and spinach. The menu said it came with goat cheese, but I thought I detected blue cheese as well. Maybe that is part of their aioli sauce? Anyway, it was decadent. A cool place right on the main road, next to Earl's Court tube station. You have a choice of indoor or outdoor seating. The decor inside has a casual retro feel. Staff were friendly and helpful. As an American living part time in London, I occasionally crave a really good cheeseburger and chips (fries). I have tried a few places in London, but have yet to find the kind of place that reminds me of the great Nations burger, or Kew Pee (only those from Racine, WI will get that reference). I decided to follow the reviews on Yelp and headed to Byron....not disappointed. Albeit it was a rather small burger, it was of great quality and taste. The chips (aka fries), were as most are here in London...VERY good. The decor needs an uplift at this particular restaurant, and of course 13 GBP for a cheeseburger/fries/Coke is quite ridiculous (thus the 4 star rating), however it totally satisfied my craving for the stereotypical American meal. Burgers are so good!!! Even the veggie burgers are good. The Oreo shake was similar to ones in America! The Fries are pretty good as well. The staff is nice but not the fastest, food comes fast but when you request things after ordering or ask for your check they are not the quickest. This was such a great find at the end of our trip. We had just come back from a day of shopping and got off the tube and needed something to eat. This location is 4 doors down from the tube station. They have a great selection of burgers to choose from. They were also doing a Korean themed menu as well. They serve beer, mixed drinks and boozy milkshakes with premium liquor. We stumbled upon this Byron location while walking from the Earls Court Underground stop to our hotel. We considered a few other restaurants in the area but the cozy, vintage atmosphere of Byron drew us in. The service staff is friendly and easy going. We asked questions about various menu items and our server happily answered with helpful suggestions. For Americans, many of the menu items will be familiar. Byron is much like my favorite gastropubs at home (Baltimoreans, think Hamilton Tavern). I decided to order one of the few items on the menu I did not recognize, courgette (zucchini) fries. This was one of the BEST random food selections I have ever made! I am not always brave enough to try new things but I am so happy I was this time. The other items we ordered were all delicious and satisfying--so much that the next evening, after a long day of sightseeing, we decided to eat here again rather than search for something different. I ordered the courgette fries again and relished every bite! Overall, I highly recommend a stop here if you are in Kensington (or one of their other locations). I had a great time at Byron yesterday evening. I really miss the American diner experience but this restaurant did a lot to make me reminisce about pop art, burgers and malt shakes. Great tasting burgers; I was asked about how I wanted the burger cooked. Medium is apparently the standard but I might opt for a medium well done to ensure my burger bun stays crispy! Fans of root beer will love the fact that they serve legendary 'A&W' there best root beer in the world! One of the best things about the restaurant was the service. The manager and the waitresses were just so down to earth and friendly. I did not feel like I had to act or speak in a certain way to get good service, it was just provided for naturally. The staff working there kept checking at my table to see if I needed anything ( how many of us have had to wait for ages in a restaurant to catch a snooty waiter's eye?). It really made my eating experience worth it. Above all, this is a restaurant where people can just go to chill in the booths at the back, away from the heavy traffic on Earls Court Road. They have tables and chairs facing onto the road but the roaring of trucks and cars trying to escape the Congestion Charge via Earls Court Road makes it difficult to relax. Don't want to mess things up here. It is a solid place for a burger. Feels nice, staff gives you attention when you need it, decor is bringing something, with bright colors and such. The place does not smell the grill at all thanks to massive vents in the kitchen area. I went there for a quick lunch and it was done in 45 min between the time I sat and left. Not bad. For me it is what we called a fast-casual spot. Nothing craazy but good burger, ok fries, strong menu, short and easy to go through. In and out fast to fix your burger crave. I pass it all the time and wanted to go there since there is always people, and also always space to sit. I got the double cheese burger and man they do not joke with the steaks : two huge steaks making it impossible to handle with hands. I removed one steak that I ate with forks and knive, and the rest was able to be chewed with my hands. A little two much sauce, the bread is a little cardboardy, and the taste is not really there, but overall it did the job. Again, good place though a little too fast casual, not too tatsy for a 4 or 5 stars. It is way better than Burger King next door that gets 3 stars as well on Yelp, but to me it does not deserve a lot more than 3. read more
