We hired Big Mike to pack our moving trailer for a cross country move…read more The day started out on the wrong foot when the movers were late. When they arrived I asked why they didn't call me to let me know they were running late (the moving truck was only going to be at our house for a 5 hour window before it would be leaving for storage for 30 days.) they said the owner didn't give them my cell phone number. I informed the owner this was a typical Newport, RI house, narrow hall and stairways and several of our pieces would need to go over the balcony to the ground level -- the workers informed me that their boss "Big Mike" informed them to drag the estimated 2.5-3hour move to 5 hours that way they could make more money. Sounds like a wonderful guy... The movers did a decent job hustling, and we did have some heavy pieces that they maneuvered down to the truck without marking the walls, which was appreciated. However, about an hour in, one of the guys joked about being accused of stealing from one past client...he joked that it was VHS tapes, and why would he steal VHS tapes when everyone has a DVD player now...this made my boyfriend and I uneasy, as only a thief would joke about being accused of being a thief. Long story short -- at the end of the move, our iPad was gone from the house. The worker who joked about being accused of stealing had gone into our downstairs bathroom -- that had been closed to the movers because the dog and all of our stuff that was not moving in the truck across country was in there for safe keeping. After he used the bathroom (very very quickly) not only was our iPad missing, but also the charger the kindle (which is also white and looks like an apple charger to a non-kindle owner) were gone. They had up and vanished into thin air with only myself and the movers being in the house that day. After scouring the empty house, 6 suitcases and rental car we realized that they both had been stolen from our house right out from under me. When I called the owner he acted outraged at his workers and actually said he'd like to, "ring his neck" when talking about the worker in question. He promised to investigate, check the local pawn shops and get back to me at 6pm the next day. Well, he never got back to me, and I called to follow up with him twice before filing a police report and he still to this day 2 months later has never gotten back to me. He even went and blocked me from his facebook page even though I hadn't even posted a single thing to it--positive or negative. I wouldn't hire these guys to move one box anywhere, and certainly wouldn't let them into my house. When our moving truck arrived in California from Rhode Island, I also discovered that the "professional" movers Big Mike hires didn't wrap our mattress, boxspring, and sofa in the bags I purchased and handed to them. I found them on the floor of the moving truck in the packaging, and lucky for us all our furniture now has grease stains including the Tempurpedic. These guys suck.

Several of these CD racks had to be disassembled before they could be moved. One bookcase is heavy, cumbersome, and includes glass doors. Everything arrived unscathed. Jeff had told me 3 people were there to clean the windows. At any time I only saw the helper guy who had never washed windows before cleaning the windows. This guy lied to me multiple times saying he had washed all the exterior windows and then in less than 30 minutes cleaned ally inside windows. I have over 60 windows, 8 sliders and 10 sky lights. He spent more time on break. By the end of the first day I was extremely unhappy. I spoke to Jeff and showed him how bad the windows still were, most windows not even touched. Jeff assured me he would correct the situation the next day and would hire a woman to help. Jeff showed up the next morning at 8am by himself. I had told him all windows needed to be cleaned by noon time Jeff was still cleaning windows at 10pm that day outside. Inside I had to follow both guys around w paper towels as they were leaving water on my wood floors, Jeff wanted to use his power washer inside on my sliding glass door tracks. I told him absolutely not and a paper towel works great. I cleaned all the tracks. I also had to take all my screens down for them to be washed and the. personally put them all back to save time. I had to finally tell him to go home so that our guests could go to bed. This company will never work for me again. It was a "S... Show" and the first time I hired a person off of Yelp. Never Again. I did pay him the requested $1250 but this should have been discounted for all the aggravations I put up with and non-professionalism.

From scheduling and receiving the original quote, down to the last item removed from the truck, we are very happy with the results. We had a tricky move from a two-level house with decades of history, to a three-level house. The guys were careful to survey the properties and come up with the most effective and efficient way to move two king-sized beds, a piano, two laundry rooms and large leather club furniture around some tight corners and stairways. Trevor and Keith are tetris-genius-level! CJ was beasting some hefty items too! They treated each item, from the heaviest to a bag of pillows, with care. They walked through with us at the end, to make sure items were placed exactly where we wanted them. They were visibly tired, but patiently adjusted a few things with a smile. Carrie called ahead to confirm everything, making the process a seamless success. We don't plan on moving from our new house - ever. But we wouldn't hesitate to recommend this team to family and friends.

I am completely satisfied with my choice. At first I was very hesitant to do business with RI Junk Removal because of a recent negative review by Anthony E. on BBB and Yelp regarding payment. I can't comment on what took place with the bad review, but I believe it to be unsubstantiated and unreliable as a full reflection of RI Junk Removal. I say this because, as I project manager by trade, I engaged Richard and his company by email and was deliberately vague and questioning about timing, pricing, and the ability to move my items. I also received feedback from others on Richard's communication. I took a chance and beyond Richard's word, their service backed it all up.
